Trouble With Downloading a Game

Q: Trouble With Downloading a Game

So I am trying to download a game called TalonRO. The problem I am running into is that I download the file in google chrome and when it finishes downloading I click it and then nothing happens. After a while the screen pops up saying "Are you sure you want TalonRO to change your computer" - The normal message I get when downloading anything. Then after I click yes nothing happens. I had the game working before and all I did was kept trying and kept waiting and after a couple days it finally opened the installer for me and once that was opened I had no problems with anything. I don't know what the problem is and I thought maybe I just need to re-download the file from the website so I tried to delete the file I had already downloaded by searching for it in the search bar when you press the windows button, and then right clicking and deleting it. But when I right click the file my computer gets really laggy and weird and I end up having to just shut down. Also my computer has been acting really weird lately, so I of course (being the computer moron I am) jumped the to conclusion that it has a virus, but when I did a full scan my computer said everything is fine, my friend told me to download ccleaner so I did but I don't really know how to use it well so I'm pretty sure I didn't use it correctly and that's why it didn't help me very much. I also used windows basic defrager and defraged my computer. But none of this has really done anything. I'm pretty much at the point where I have no idea what's wrong and what to do about it. Quite a hopeless situation for me at the moment, so any help would be appreciated. Thank you very much.

EDIT: Recently I've been thinking it might be best to delete everything that isn't needed on my computer and just start from scratch, but I don't know how to do that safely and I don't want to ruin anything so yeah. Is that even worth doing/a good idea?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I just bought a new laptop with XP (sorry, don't trust Vista yet) a month ago with a free Norton trial installed. I've now sucessfully removed Norton using the uninstall tool. I've done a search to check that all the Norton stuff was gone, and all I could find was the unistall programs, which I've now deleted.

I've installed AVG free and am currently running Windows firewall until I can get a better firewall to install.

I was trying to download zonealarm free but it won't install, I just get an error message halfway through saying server not responding and can't find the msi packet or patch. I was told on another forum that zonealarm have just provided a new updated version, which won't install and to try comodo instead. Tried that, it's started but doesn't seem to be doing anything. The little piece of paper is moving in the download box the bar at the bottom (download %) is moving.

I was also trying to download ad-aware. That won't install either. Same happens as with the comodo.

I've also been unable to download any game trials, the same happens as with comodo.

Do I need to adjust some settings somewhere? I've never had any problems downloading on other computers.

Any ideas??

A:downloading game

Welcome to TSG!
Usually the download process is not affected by programs running in background such as those found in you startup group. Some antivirus or programs such as Norton system doctor can cause problems. I suggest turning off system doctor if present but leave the virus scanner running. It is not good proceedure to work on other stuff while your downloading. Allow the process to complete first. After downloading to a holding folder of your choice (I created a folder on desktop for downloaded programs) make sure you run a virus scanner against it. If the program is zipped unzip to same folder before running exe program.

I'm trying to download Capoeira Fighter 3 to my computer, so I can play it offline, but even when I download all the files, the game still can't load. I recently downloaded a game from a bit torrent, don't worry it was 100% legal, not a game that requires a CD key. It was in ISO file format. I used "Magic ISO" to extract those files into a separate folder. I have no idea how to get this game to work, I only know that it is now in a folder all neat and pretty on my desktop. In the folder are contents like Autorun and other various game files. Do I need to burn these files on a dvd in order to play this game or what? I am very confused on what to do because in the instructions that came with the file, it says to use a program called Steam Buster Revolution to install the game. I don't know what "steam" is or anything and I feel completely in the dark. Could someone help me out? Thank you.

I am new to this forum, my apologies if I have posted in the wrong place. After downloading a game on to my computer it began having the following problems:1. Very slow to open Firefox (3.5.6) and Thunderbird (3.0)2. During downloads Firefox stopped responding (I was downloading SpywareBlaster and Mike Lins Start up Control panel)3. Other functions such as response to start menu have slowed or stopped responding.I have a custom built computer with a 32bit processor. I am using Windows XP Pro and Windows 7 Pro (My hard drive is partitioned). I was using Windows XP Pro when the problem occurred. While downloading the game, AVG (8.5 free) detected a virus which I put into the virus vault.Since then I have done the following:1. Uninstalled and removed all files associated with the Game.2. Completed several registry scans with Registry Booster 2.3. Scanned twice with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (1.43, updated). First scan found 2 infections quarantined and deleted them successfully. Second scan found nothing.4. I ran AVG (9.0) scan in Safe Mode on Windows 7 which found nothing.5. Ran AVG (9.0) scan on Windows XP Pro and it detected 3 issues which were moved to the virus vault. After doing all this I am still experiencing the problems listed above. If anyone could help that would be great.Thank you!****Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.3 (BETA)Scan saved at 12:47:25 PM, on 5/01/2010Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v8.00 (8.00.6001.18702)Boot mod... Recently reinstalled Windows 7 OS and let Windows Update download some 200 updates. First BSOD was when I left my computer on when I was away to download some games. I came back to it at the User accounts screen, so I suspected it had crashed. Second BSOD was when I was playing Civilization 5 solo with Steam downloading in the background.

Just a hunch, but I think it may be my video card (GTX 760). When Windows Updates was rebooting and installing the updates, my PC would not boot to OS, or even the Windows 7 Installation CD. There was no POST beep either, when before there was. I had to remove video card and install my previous GTX 560TI, then there was POST beep and the video card drivers installed. Took out the GTX 560TI and put in GTX 760, and there is no POST beep, but it boots up. Funny thing is, if I have my USB headset connected the USB 3.0 port it does not boot either, though it will boot if connected to non-USB 3.0 port.

Don't know if that helps. Thanks for looking at my post.

I'm just going to copy and paste what I have posted everywhere:

I recently installed WinXP. I had WinME before this, very few problems.
I formatted, installed WinXP, and everything is fine, except one thing. I
cannot downloading anything. for instance, I go to http://www.aim.com , and
I try to DL AOL Instant Messenger. The dialog may or may not pop up, and
when it does, I select a folder to download to, and the Time Remaining stays
blank, Transfer Rate is blank, and the Progress Bar does not move. The file
doesn't download. One of my friends told me something about having an NTFS
system instead of FAT32. I dont know if this will fix it, but if there is
something easier, I'll take that instead. I have RoadRunner Cable, I Obtain
IP and DNS addresses automatically, and am through a router. I have released
and renewed my IPs twice. I did not have this problem before WinXP came
along. I'm not a computer newbie, so I have tried all the menial things,
like Virus Scanners, Cookies, IE options, etc.. I would greatly appreciate
help please!

I also took a screenshot of what happens:

Update: I have reformatted my computer, this time with NTFS (just because). There is no change in my problem. I need all the help I can get, because I'm not going back to WinME! Please help! E-mail me also if you can, [email protected] Read more

Boxergirl I don't know HOW you are downloading Win10, but the best way to do it is using the Media Creation Tool:  Installing Windows 10 using the media creation tool - Windows Help With this tool, you have the option of (1) creating Win10 installation media (USB or DVD), (2) downloading an ISO file, (3) updating the PC directly.  What I recommend is getting an 8GB USB stick and using option (1) to create installation media, then inserting that media and running the Upgrade. Good Luck========================================================================I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor do I represent, HP.---------------------------------------------------------------If my posts helped you, please click the Thumbs-Up symbol on my post to say thanks. If my posts solved your problem please click "Accept As Solution".========================================================================

Hi all.

I couldn't find any threads that cover my exact issue and I assume that this is the correct section of the board to post in... anyway, my issue is as follows:

IE8 won't allow me to download any programs. The download box pops up as normal and the progress bar goes to 100% but then it just closes and the download is nowhere to be seen. The search function won't find it either; the program is not on my computer.

The only bits of advice I've found online is to download Firefox (which would be great if it wasn't for the initial downloading problem) and also altering permissions in the Component Services bit (dcomcnfg), which did nothing.

I've also turned off Windows Firewall and am using Kaspersky 2011 with all permissions set so that it doesn't delete stuff automatically.

I also had an issue with uTorrent that I believe to be related: Whenever I clicked on a link to download a torrent, uTorrent wouldn't pick up on the fact that I was attempting to add a torrent to the download list. I was able to add a new torrent by inputting the URL but they would invariably fail.

(Foolishly, I had a bit of a tantrum and uninstalled uTorrent so as to install BitComet but then realised that I couldn't download that anyway. I blame quitting smoking.)

Any ideas?

I don't know whether this is an XP or an IE thing...

I inhereted this laptop at my company. I have full admin rights to it, btw.

This is kind of tough to explain. When I go to download certain types of programs - not files with a direct link to the file, but something that's supposed to run an installer on my machine - I don't get a prompt to download the software and the files don't start to download.

For example, go to http://download.sidestep.com/get/k00...&param=onlyGet

If you click I Agree, it should start to download a file. Except on my machine, it won't. I've had this same problem at other sites and it's becoming a major issue - I can't DL the webconferencing software we use, either.

I've gone into IE tools/Security/Custom Level and made sure that everything in ActiveX will download (or at least prompt me), but I don't get the pop-up box to download these types of programs. I've dropped my security levels to the bare minimums, but that didn't help either.

For what it's worth, the Sidestep site listed above gives me this error message:
This is taking too long.
A few possible reasons why your download is failing:
You are using pop-up ad prevention software that prevents our registration windows from opening.

downloading its not there, the download screen just disapears
upon completion even though box isnt checked,

so i tried just to run it and it gets to point where window pops up

ive check temp folders and cleared them ive tried system restore
set all internet options to default closed all virus programs,
no firewall up and still nothing
and it does this on everything thats downloaded or rather attempted

its funny because there is no errors that come up it just acts as though
nothing happened , created a folder for downloads and assigned everything to download to it and following downloads nothings there..

im wondering if the windows defender is a culprit here but i deleted it and still nothing, but maybe still remnants in registry or something

You may be infected with Poweliks or Xswkit (aka Gootkit, a Poweliks clone) which typically affects the ability to browse or download files using Internet Explorer and causes PowerShell error alerts. Task Manager typically shows numerous occurrences of (COM Surrogate) dllhost.exe or dllhst3g.exe. If using a 64-bit version of Windows, then these entries will be listed as dllhost.exe *32 or dllhst3g.exe *32. These processes are known to spawn and consume a large amount of system resources. When attempting to download files in Internet Explorer you may receive the message "Your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded." or you may see a pop-up alert advising that "powershell (powershell.exe) has stopped working".If you are having trouble downloading files with Internet Explorer, follow these instructions to re-enable downloads/reset all Security zones to default.

So, a couple of hours ago I downloaded and installed the game at this link: Download and play free game: Super Mario Bros. 3 | Classic Retro Games and started playing it. When I opened it, the game went straight to full screen, and I couldn't figure out how to downsize it, so after screwing around with it for awhile I just shut the computer down.

When I restarted, my monitor resolution was, I don't know, one? two? It's so distended that I can't, for instance, right click, select properties, and adjust the resolution, because the toollbar takes up most of the screen and the mouse refuses to navigate above it.

Restarting doesn't work, nor does adjusting the resolution in safe mode then restarting. Display in safe mode is normal.

So tell me--what's a girl to do, besides light the whole thing on fire?

Thanks in advance for any help,

Hi yeto, welcome to BC.In the lower left hand corner of download.com's website, click "Help Center" then click "downloading problems and Help". Your answer is there. (no dl managers allowed) Left a few sites below. Don't use dl managers myself and don't know if any of them prohibit thier use.As above, you can usually find that answer in the websites help section.Freeware FilesFreeware HomeFreeware World TeamPricelesswareSnapFilesTudogsWantdbestWebgrid

Hi everybody.

My wife is a medical transcriptionist and has to download wav. files from a FTP site every day. Recently we switched to Cox cable internet and she started having problems downloading files. The files can range in size and generally when the files are 30mb or greater, the download never completes now.

My question is would this problem be on our end as a result of a firewall or router or something like that, or would it be an issue with the file, the FTP website, or the new ISP? We also just started using Vonage too.

Thank you for any help.

An error shows up when she can't complete the downlaod that says "Connection reset by peer: socket right error." Does this mean that it is taking too long to download and the FTP site disconnects her?

Any ideas?

Hello, I'm running Vista 32 bit, and I'm trying to download a file. It's been posted on mediafire and the developer's website, but I can't get it to download. A link to it is here: <link to infected file removed> or <link to infected file removed> . Both have the same issue.

It's had a few versions uploaded, and I can't download any of them. I've tried downloading it on the latest IE, Firefox, and Google Chrome, and they return errors such as "The file cannot be downloaded", "Source file cannot be read" and "Download was interrupted". Trying with the Downthemall addon for firefox returned the error "Size Mismatch *".

Incomplete .part and .tmp files can be found in the download and temporary folders.

I know that many people have downloaded it and not experienced this error (I just watched my friend download it over teamviewer, but attempts for him to transfer it over to me have failed as well. When I click the file, it says something along the lines of it not being found), so it seems specific to my computer, and not a problem with the website.

The file has chinese characters in it, which I believe might be a source of the problem, but I don't know. Is there any way I can download this file?

Any help would be much appreciated,

I can't seem to download the XP_CodecRepair.inf. I am using IE7. I have followed the instructions below. When I click on the link to the file I get an Error 404: Page Not Found. While on the error page I try to use the file-->save as instruction. I done get a File -->"Save page as" option just the "save as". I save the page using the "webpage complete" option but this only save the 404 error page and image file.I know this is probably supposed to be easier but I can't seem to get around it. My pc was infected by the Viruswebprotect2008.com. I have already run the SDFix and Malwarebytes. I have manually restored the missing items to my start menu (Control Panel, search, help and support, etc..)I am still missing the following:When My Computer is opened the "C:" drive is missing alond with "D:"(cd/dvd), but the link to control Panel is back in the main window and on the shortcut menu on the left side of the window. I can however see the "C:" drive when right clicking on the start button and choosing Explore.I can post any log files that you may need.To fix the restrictions put in place by this infection, please open the SDFix folder or download XP_CodecRepair.inf and save it to your desktop.
