I recommend downloading and running Outlook PST Repair. It's a PST repair tool that I've used it in the past to recover emails, contacts, tasks and notes from corrupt Outlook files that are damaged or inaccessible. Supports Outlook 2000, 2002, 2003, 2007, 2010 and 2013.

You can download it direct from this link http://goo.gl/1bjhSi. (This link will automatically start a download of Outlook PST Repair that you can save to your computer.)

Yesterday I updated my HP Pavilion dv6 (I'll find the exact model number soon) from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1. I initially restored the laptop to factory defaults (still in Windows 7) then upgraded to Windows 8.1. It updated just fine but (now in Windows 8.1) when I tried to install Chrome it shut down by itself and got into a boot loop, then showed the Automatic Repair options. I restored the laptop then. After this I tried to get to install the printer but this too caused the laptop to go into the reboot loop. This time i refreshed the laptop. I read online about this issue and it said to update drivers. So I went to Windows Update and updated everything, but when i restarted the computer it started configuring the updates but it eventually became 'Failure to configure updates. Undoing changes.' It then restarted and the same message came up again. Annoyed, I used the power button to shut the computer off. I need those updates installed or my computer will be in the reboot loop again. Is there something else I should do to install the updates?

A:Laptop pretty much unusable after updating to Windows 8.1

Hey mate, don't let Windows update your drivers, you have to go online to the manufacturer's website and get them there. Sometimes, if the computer was built for Windows 7, they won't provide you with 8 drivers. It is worth a look, anyhow. Let me know how this goes, or if you've any questions.

Evening guys. i have the following problem :

Acer aspire 5750 laptop ( about 9 months old )
wireless internet with 'excellent' signal strength on internet
windows 7 home premium

the problem i'm getting is that constantly now the laptop losing its internet connection (goes to limited connectivity) or cannot connect then when i try troubleshooting/diagnosing/open the network center as soon as i run the troubleshooting etc the laptop freezes then the only way it will work again is to turn it off and back on, i would then get an internet connection again, sometimes for half an hour but often no more than five minutes.

I'm pretty sure the wireless Internet is not the issue as the fault occurs exactly the same at

My house
Girlfriends house
and has also happened when using a friends wireless at his place
so the same internet connection fault occurs at three separate connections which leads me to believe its the laptop playing up .

any ideas, help or checks i could do would be great .
thanks in advance

A:acer Laptop running windows 7 losing wireless connection and freezing

Some common issues I have found to resolve similar type issues are:

1. Update network driver
2. Delete network profiles and remake them
3. run a "netsh winsock reset" from command prompt
4. Update Bios, may be a PCI communication error?
5. Replace wifi card (under warranty?)
6. Run a virus scan, somthing like Offline defender, good sucess with this, or Kaspersky rescue disc.

Hello,
I have an Acer Aspire 5532 running Windows 7 64 bit with 3.00 GB ram and I have 2.75 GB of ram saying unusable. My computer is and has been very slow and I haven't recently added or removed any hardware.

I have checked 2 possible problems from info I found on this problem being I've located msconfig, boot, advanced options, max memory is "unchecked" and have checked my bios which do show the correct amount of memory but I can not enable "memory remap" because bios does not support. I've added a resource monitor screen shot below.

Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated, Dave

A:Unusable Memory Windows 7 64 bit Acer Aspire 5532

DaveB727, welcome to the Seven Forums.

Everything looks fine in that screen shot. The "missing" ~256 MB of ram is being allocated to the onboard video (AMD 780G) which has none of its own dedicated memory and it has to get it from somewhere, so it is shared with system ram. Short of lowering the amount it can use (not recommended) in the bios (if the option is even there), leave it alone.

As for it being slow, that could be any of a whole host of things, but the video memory isn't one of them. To start if you haven't,

1. Use something like ccleaner,

CCleaner - PC Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download

to help with cleaning up junk/temp files.

2. Defrag.

3. Check for malware.

On my 2nd X1 extreme, the first was bricked. Everytime I boot into Windows, I experience a freeze and afterwards a black screen after some time (a minute or so). The laptop became unusable in windows. I have all the windows and vantage updates. I disabled all remote management stuff in the bios, disabled all secure boot settings, set some keyboard preferences (swap ctrl-fn etc.) and changed my graphics adapter to discrete only. I tried windows restore and after experiencing some blue screens, that helps a bit: still freezing, but not always. When I reapply all windows and vantage updates the laptop goes back to the same behaviour: boot into windows and after a minute or so a total freeze, followed by a black screen some 5 seconds later and still later fans spinning up to full speed. The updates include the latest graphics drivers, and I think the issue maybe has something to do with these graphic updates, but not sure. Some more observations:- The laptop never froze when Windows was applying updates. This takes longer then the usual time to have it freeze.- During updating the laptop, when I logged into windows, I sometimes got a windows notification saying the gfx driver failed to start and windows is reverting to a generic driver. I can't remember exactly, but I think the laptop never froze when using the generic one. I run the machine in dual boot and on linux the behaviour is absent. It does have sleep issues in Linux where it also freezes when coming out of slee... Read more

Inherited Acer Aspire 5553g from my dad, a few years old but still good specs. AMD Phenom II X4, 6gB of RAM and and ATI Mobility Radeon 5650 GPU.

Yesterday bought Planetary Annihilation. All within laptop specs. Run first time but crashes because video driver is out of date.

Download the correct patch from AMD website and run their clean-up utility.

Then run the patch (14-4-mobility-win7-win8-win8.1-64-dd-ccc-whql.exe). After apparently successful installation and restart there is no evidence that the GPU has been installed correctly and my resolution is still way off.

Check the device settings in My computer and says that a 5000 series ATI card is installed as well as a 4200 card (????). I decide to uninstall it but as soon as I'm done, windows notifies me that it is installing the driver for a 4200 card. However, the resolution still won't go above 1024x768 in the settings and steam can't detect a graphics card installed at all. Ontop of this, planetary annihalation still won't work.

Has anyone got any ideas? Could it just be something to do with what Acer have done with laptop? What's the deal with the 4200 card; as far as I'm aware I should only have a 5650 in here.

A:Bizarre goings on updating Radeon 5650 card in Acer Laptop

A few things to note here:

First and foremost, the only recommended source for laptop drivers is from the laptop manufacturer. Any other source you are trying your luck as the drivers have not been configured for your exact hardware.

Second, many laptops with a "highend" chipset, also have a low end chipset for normal everyday use which uses less power. So it's possible there are two chipsets in that model as well. As for drivers, note above.
I will also point out that in regards to gaming, that laptop specs have to exceed the recommendations to actually work well. This is because laptop hardware and desktop hardware (even the same chipset) are not equal. So if you look up the benchmarks for a desktop 5650 gpu and the laptop (ie: mobile) 5650, you will see the laptop benchmarks are slower.

Having said all of that, your current issue appears to be video driver related.

Hi everyone. I have an Acer Aspire 3000 laptop with 1 gb of ram. Just put a fresh load of Win XP pro on it, nothing else. System craaaaawls just shy of freezing and is basically unusable...until I take the battery out and just run on AC. Then it runs like a champ. If and when I get a chance to look at task manager, it says that the "system" process is using all the cpu. As soon as I take the battery out, the system process goes down to practically nothing.

This is the third time I have reloaded windows in two days. The first two time it took a little longer to act up...this last time it was immediately after install.

On the first load I got as far as loading all the ACER-specific drivers for that model, and sp3...then it started.

The second time I got as far as the drivers then it started.

This last time, like I said, it was right after install.

I don't think it's hardware specific as I can go to safe mode with the battery in and it runs just fine.

Any thoughts?

if it works ok in safe mode but not otherwise, maybe its the power management

Im fixing a computer for someone, when he gave me it he said it kept freezing up when he was on the internet, i thought it was just because he had it clogged up with rubbish old programs, so i formated and "clean installed" it seemed to be working fine, i put a bit more memory in it just to be safe and gave it hi back,

He rang me today saying its doing the exact same thing!

He can listen to music ok, he can use office all ok, but when it comes to going on the internet it freezes up solid, sometimes quickly, sometimes up to 20 mins. The only way to turn it off is to hold power button.

The sytstem ACER ASPIRE 3690 with Intel celeron M 1.6gh
1.5g ram
xp

i though that a CLEAN install would solve any freezing, so it has to be a harware problem.

He says that it usualy freezes up on ebay etc, (Rich Media Websites)

So i think its the processor, (beacuse it is spiking out) but before i order a better one, was wondering if any one has any thoughts?

Hi all, new here. I don't know where to begin so I'll tell you from when I tried to uninstall Nero 11....
I had the trial version of Nero 11 on my laptop and realised that it took up over 1gb of space, and it was about 6 months past the trial date, lol. So I tried to uninstall it and omg what a farce! I could not uninstall it using the control panel> add/remove programs so I downloaded one of those programs which could help do it for you. I think it was CCleaner, or something like that..

While I was trying to uninstall Nero 11 I decided I was going to do a disk cleanup, and because I was in a clean up mood I decided to do a defragmentation (however you spell it) because I had recently read that it's good to do them at least once a month. It was my first time in 2/3 years of having my laptop :/

Somewhere down the line I think the defrag crashed so I restarted my laptop and googled how long it usually took. Some said 1-2 hours so I decided to do it when I went to bed, and leave my laptop on running doing the thing...

I woke up and my laptop was off (fgs lol) so I wasn't sure if it defraged it...

I then noticed my laptop froze,so I had to hold the power button and turn it off like that..

I started up again, did the same thing. Restarted and repeated for about 5 more times before I used my brain and started up in safe mode. I don't know if it's because I started up in safe mode or not but it seems to not crash..

I've googled to see wh... Read more

After the system restore, my computer would completely lock up seconds after I logged in. The screen would freeze, and the mouse and keyboard wouldn't work. I've tried putting it back to factory settings, but it kept doing it. But, everything runs perfectly fine when I am in Safe Mode.

I was wondering if any of you could help me out.

Hi mike41,

I would advise you to boot into safemode and turn of all the autostart items (Start > Search "msconfig" > Hit enter > Startup tab). Disable all that aren't windows services so that you'll have a clean start. It might be one of these processes that gets stuck during the startup.

Also when it freezes, could you attach an external keyboard and see if that responds? If so, try killing Explorer.exe and starting it again (From the task manager).

I'm thinking now I should have posted this in Web Browsing is there someone who can move it?  I just visited there and there is another topic about the new Firefox but I didn't see anyone with a computer so screwed as mine.

I've been comfortable on my computer and online for over a decade but with the new FIREFOX I feel totally lost as though its my first time to use a computer.

Currently I AM TOTALLY SCREWED and TICKED OFF.    STUPIDLY I installed the NEW FIREFOX update to my computer and it has made my computer so screwed up it is unusable even if I use Windows Internet Explorer.

I don't know everything its done but for starters I can't read my hotmail email.   It doesn't open.

I cannot type anything, my keyboard is nonresponsive.

It says I have an AdBlocker that is interfering with the AP that is part of the NEW FIREFOX so I can't COPY any text.

This is just the tip of the iceberg I'm sure there is more wrong aka screwed-up its just since I can't "intereact" I don't know yet.

GMAIL I CAN READ, it still opens but even it is changed even with Internet Explorer.

I can't type anything into OUTLOOK SITE HELP because my keyboard doesn't work  in Hotmail - it works in GMail but still the functions are totally screwed up.  LIKE cut and paste - No longer can I copy or cut part of an earlier email, it sees the whole thing / email as one whole thing to be copied or not.

Hello everyone, I'm here to seek assistance on my Laptop that started to get random freezing that occurs every 10-15 minutes for about 2-10 minutes.

I got the Laptop from a relative( a gift), it seemed to be in brand new condition with the protective plastic on the screen etc. Microsoft Office and AVG (antivirus),Acer games and a few other things were already on before I got it.

The Laptop was running smoothly, and fast for about 2-3 months then suddenly started to get the random freezing on the Internet and slow running in things like Windows Media, Microsoft Word, Chess Titans and other Windows programs.

I've recently tried to clear the registry of any errors, which seemed to work for about and hour but the next day returned to former freezing self.

EDIT: I just looked at the Event Viewer to see errors and sources of most of the errors I saw were from SidebySide Event ID 33 n the "general" tab it says Activation context generation failed for "c:\Windows\Installer\{67E03279-F703-408F-B4BF-46B5FC8D70CD}\WksWP.exe". Right now, someone brought me an Acer Aspire 5538 laptop to look at it. This person wanted me to take a look at it and see what the issue is. The issue is at the startup screen, it loads windows and then it loads the windows 7 desktop without icons and just sits there. Nothing else happens. Or sometimes, it'll go past the windows 7 screen and attempt to load the windows 7 desktop but never going past this black screen after the windows 7 logo and then the blue screen literally pops up for about 1 second (with an error message I can't look at due to how quick the blua screen disappears) and then the screen goes black and then it restarts the PC to do the same process again. Startup repair gives me the same problem as well as nothing loads up so far but a desktop background without any icons. Memory Diagnostic tool also tests but doesn't do anything to fix the issue.

I really need some help!

Earlier today I was using my laptop (AcerAspire) And everything was working normally. Now, as soon as the 'Starting Windows' Screen pops up the entire computer freezes, and a thin strip of dead pixels pop up at the top of the screen. This means I cant reach the desktop, and I can only access the menus through the F# keys. When it starts, I get taken to a menu that says 'Launch startup repair' or 'start windows normally'. Going through the repair tells me no solutions can be found, and entering any of the safe modes also freezes the computer almost immeadiatly. What can I do?

Hello,
I'm hoping for a bit of help and advice on this issue before I go taking anything apart or delving into the insides of my laptop or taking it to a repair shop.
When I turn the laptop on I get the Acer screen and then the top left quarter of the screen goes black and the whole thing freezes (see the attachment). However when I plug the laptop into my TV screen via HDMI it's absolutely fine and starts up no problem. Even when I take the cable out once it has started up it works fine on just the laptop screen but it's something about the start-up that makes it freeze. I also shut it down, unplugged the HDMI and started it up again on just the laptop and it worked fine again so really confused about what is going on.
Has anyone come across something like this before? I've attached my computer specs below too.
Thanks

A:Updating to Windows 8 on a HP laptop

You should first check with HP and see if they have an "update" option available for that laptop. The advantage of using their update version is that it will come with the right drivers. It's also likely to be less expensive than going out and purchasing a retail copy. And finally, if they (as they did with laptops that were NOT upgradeable to Win7) indicate that yours is NOT a candidate for upgrade -- I would think seriously about NOT upgrading it -- as that generally means that one or more devices will not work well after the upgrade.

^^ should say "Laptop's browser's almost unusable"

Hi, I bought a refurbished laptop a few months ago and from the beginning it seemed to have a virus, as Firefox would redirect occasionally. This got progressively worse and worse and now FF won't even load. Now I'm using IE and that is now slowly ceasing to function properly. I've attempted to follow the steps required but couldn't seem to do a full GMER scan as many of the tickboxs needed are greyed out?

Greetings and Welcome to The Forums!!My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.I have put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of usPlease do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.
We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post. Please read every post completely before doing anything.

Hello all,

First, thank you for reading this and attempting to help me. I am at my wits end related to my Toshiba Satellite laptop. It has been running slowly for some time now. I have tried, defraging it, disk cleanup, Ad Aware, Spybot, and Microsoft malicious software. According to these programs, my machine is clean. But my CPU is running at 100% with no running programs. I thought I'd try Hijact this and here is my log. Any help would be appreciated. I am running is "Safe Mode", so I am unsure if this captures all the critters that are on it.

Hi everyone. My best friend recommended this forum to me, she said you guys really helped her out so hopefully ill have the same luck. Fingers crossed.

I have a three year old Sony Vaio laptop that came with Windows 7 Home Premium on it. Since I got it, whenever Windows does an automatic update the laptop is super slow for a few days. Locks up, won't shut down, is generally unusable. Then all of a sudden it's fine. I've gotten used to this, but last week, after it updated it wasn't at all fine.

Programs that automatically opened on startup, if you tried to click on one, the screen turned black. It might then return to a normal screen with just the application (Spotify for instance) being black. You can't click on or open anything or close it. And if you try to shut down the computer, that just freezes on the logging off screen. After four days it came on like normal, and I was using it and in the middle of updating a blog it froze again and stopped letting me do anything, I've turned it on once since then and it's still not letting me do anything.

So I obviously have no idea what's wrong or how to fix it. I've looked and googled and can't find anything online that might help me. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Can you boot into Safe Mode?

How long has this been happening?

Are you restarting this computer after it updates?

After I logon to my Windows 7 machine, the computer seems to freeze. Every once in ahwile I'll be able to do a little but it is painfully slow(3-5 mintues for one action). Everything runs normally in safe mode.

Originally I thought my virus software of kaspersky 2012 was causing problems at startup, so unwisely I removed it. I can't get the machine to run long enough to get it reinstalled.

The computer will start and run in safe mode. I have downloaded combofix. It runs and creates the log. It runs at an acceptable speed in normal mode after the combofix reboot where it is creating the log. However I can't launch any program because it says that a registry is marked for deletion. When I restart it goes back the computer being unusable.

Sometimes I can get task manager up and sometimes is gives an error that that it is unable to launch. I can't even launch my computer or google chrome.

Any help would be appreciated. I am fairly comfortable working on computer as I have .NET programming background.

Hello,

Can someone help me fix my laptop? I think a virus has infected it. It was running normal until I received a popup saying that a program (my a/v) cannot run because of a missing dll. Soon almost everything is unrunnable because of missing dlls. I was able to run FRST though. Included are the log files. I don't use it anymore because from past experience, booting it cleans up my windows and make it unusable, requiring a recovery or reformat in order to use the laptop again.

Also, I couldn't run SysInfo because COMCTL32.dll is missing from the WinSxS folder.

OS is Windows 8.1, 64-bit; A/V is Panda Free Antivirus

I tried using MalwareBytes Anti-Rootkit but to no avail. Couldn't run AdwCleaner

I've been getting BSODs since late last year on my Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop running Windows 7 32-bit. I wiped out the machine and loaded the OS. But after some time these BSODs came back. Since I needed a reliable machine, I purchased a replacement, but I would like to get this back into working condition, so I can give it to a family member. I can not determine what caused this to start, so I don't know where to begin. Please help.

A Vista Home Basic laptop (Compaq) was infected with FunWebProducts stuff. Removed it with MalwareBytes. Follow-up with SuperAntiSpyware to remove two registry keys left behind by MalwareBytes.

Problems remain. Can't open "All Programs|Accessories|System tools". In fact, every list (combo, drop-down, address, etc) "oscillates" between what you're trying to select and the initial entry in the list.

Even Control Panel can only open the initial applet in the window.

System is unusable as-is. I'm unable to run SFC because I can't open it with administrator rights -- I don't know how as selecting a shortcut is next to impossible.

Sure need some suggestions...

Thanks...

I would try downloading Dr Web cure it a downloadable anti virus that you do not even have to install on your computer.Run it and see if that finds anything else.It will clean anything it finds and leave a log when its finished.Just in case something else is in the system. Its freeware so wont cost you anything to try.

Hello, who can help me? Who tested it this versions? I tested and is hard to find the right one. I'm talking about drivers on GeForce 730M on Windows 10. Drivers from mainfacturer i can't use anymore, because are no longer supported, damage. Very good notebook without support. I was choosing between 347.88 then 359.06 then 353.54 then 353.84 and the last 368.69.What can be the most reccomended(perfomace, functionality) for laptop on Windows 10? I 'd like to decided by  ratings, discussion, tested on those five driver versions. Is there anyone who tried some version from those five? This topic is about that. I don't want to drivers from NVIDIA EXPERIENCE. I mean the newest drivers, because 370-x.x are not good by people and newest not equal the best. I want to priot set.Just keep in mind, I am using a Laptop. Notebook is Optimus so is always better use drivers from mainfacturer, but i can't roll back on Windows 8. The MS update driver does not always have the best performance and in a lot of cases causes a BLACK SCREEN on reboot. Do u have any experience with this? I can't test every versions by NVIIDA(GENERIC) drivers. Maybe have no issues in Win, but perfomace is the second thing.I had here topic 2 months ago maybe less, but answers weren't good. So i need serious answer. Thank you and I look forward for answers.

I bought an Acer aspire V 5 series and I was wondering why the unit keeps on uodating and configuring everytime I shut down and turn on. It really takes time. Will it ruin the laptop if I dont have to keep on updating? Though this might have technical augmentation but it's really annoying!. I already change the setting and set it to every Saturday but it's useless. The updating goes on and on everytime I shut down.Acer people please justify this to win back your customers' loyalty!

A:Acer keep on updating?

this happens when an update or more updates are not installing or something went wrong on updates "DB", so it's triggering the update every boot/reboot. if i was you, since windows 10 is coming, i would backup all my personal data, do a factory reset and then go straight to windows 10 update (the 29th july it will be available fo free).

Hello,My HP Envy laptop is experiancing a problem with the left hinge/fan. The hinge is very loose and now I can't even open it properly. This laptop was NEVER dropped or mishandled as it sat on my desk at home almost all the time. Their is a gap in the casing now and it is interfering with the fan. This laptop is barely a year old and has software from my college installed on it. I can't afford expensive repairs. This laptop worked perfectly fine before this hinge started coming apart. This appears to be from a defective design, I'm surprised their hasn't been a recall. It seems other people on the forums have experienced a similar problem and was wondering if an HP Rep. could reach out to me.

The keyboard included with my laptop has an E key that acts stuck - repeating the letter E over and over again. I removed the key to clean it only to discover that there was nothing that needed cleaning. The key isn't physically stuck, so I'm thinking it's either software related or an obscure hardware problem that would require a trip to the repair shop.

I checked the computer for viruses, defragmented both partitions of my hard drive, and did a system restore to a time before the key started acting up... nothing worked.

Since my laptop also has an external keyboard I used KeyKiller and MapKeyboard (one at a time) to try and disable the E key on the internal keyboard. MapKeyboard disabled the key on both the internal and external keyboards while KeyKiller did absolutely nothing. After that I tried disabling the entire internal keyboard, both by trying to uninstall the drivers using Device Manager (Windows simply reinstalled them after a restart and the key kept repeating) and dragging the driver files out of the system folder (Windows refused to move them saying I didn't have administrator privileges even though I have an administrator account - sometimes the system is a bit TOO protected).

Also, just to make this even more difficult, I discovered that my external keyboard won't work before Windows loads, which could be problematic if I need to select Safe Mode since starting normally is the default action...

What else can I try before physicall... Read more

Why not just order a new keyboard? They start around $16 on ebay: http://www.ebay.ca/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_from=R40&_nkw=asus+1201n+keyboard&_sop=2

And there's guides and videos on how to replace it:

FYI, there are contact pads in the rubber parts under each keyboard, that's likely what's failed or stuck.
