I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Combofix Download "error 403 Forbidden"

Hello ChuckGeeWelcome to BleepingComputer ========================Combofix is temporarily down for now if you need assistance please do the following:Click here to download HJTInstall.exeSave HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .Click on Install. It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Almost anything I download either gives me a 403 forbidden error or file not found error, it is happening with both IE and firefox. I have no proxy and my anti-virus and firewall is turned off. Also i know the download links are correct because I am following them through the websites. Thank you very much for the help.

By the way, even windows update isn't working.

A:Forbidden errors when trying to download

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers.

Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

Talk to your IT Adminstrator before proceeding with any changes in your Internet connectivity yourself. The below is safe to do. Sounds like necessary firewall ports are closed.

Internet Explorer 5.x/6.x comes with a repair tool. To use it, go to the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel; Scroll and click to highlight 'Microsoft Internet Explorer 5/6.x' in the Install/Uninstall window; Then click on the Add/Remove button; Select 'Repair' the current installation of Internet Explorer radio button; Click on OK. I'm trying to access a friends website (it's a wiki type of thing) and keep getting error 403 "Forbidden

You don't have permission to access / on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request."

I can try to go to any page and that comes up.
The only thing is that when I access the site from work or on my Blackberry, it loads fine... I can also load it from home if I use a proxy.

Does anyone know what could be causing this? It seems like all my computers at home (on my network) can't access the site but everyone else can.

Sorry, I can't post the link for her privacy.

It is called NOD.  Not sure what else to tell you except thanks!

hi all- 1st post here! my son is having a prob with desktop. he's running vista, with IE. here is what he's got going on. when he signs online, he's getting an error message that reads 403 forbidden. he can't access the web. no sites at all. i've tried to look into it and nothing is working out. i'm typing in the right addresses too. he able by the way to sign on to AIM and his music, but i think that is because he's not having to route to an address on the web. last week is when he started to notice the problem. he went to sign on and it went to comcast and asked if he was a customer or technician. he knew something was wrong at that point and he got off line. not been able to click online since. i've tried sys restore only to get an error for that too. i've reset the IE and it didn't help either. when i go into trusted/restricted sites, the thing tells me that the address has to read https:// not the normal http:// that seems strange to me. i can't get on to download anything to run and check if there is malware or what causing the problem. its a brand new puter, couple months old and he desperately needs this for college. can anyone please, please, help me with this problem?

can someone help me with an error message I keep getting, when I try to connect to microsoft download center I keep getting this message "HTTP 403 Forbidden" and I get the same message when I try to download a pdf file, thank you, Gerry.

A:error HTTP 403 Forbidden

Gerry, welcome to TSF.

I've removed your email address from your post as I assume you don't want it getting into the wrong hands?

Try this. From IE go to Tools > Internet Options > Connections tab > LAN Settings.
Make sure that "Auto detect my settings" is checked.

If you don't use a proxy or vpn make sure no other boxes in this page are checked. Apply and OK your way back out. Does this help?

Does this help? I'd be curious because I had a customer just the other day that had 403 Forbidden messages on every page and was because her ISP settings were incorrect. "Auto detect" solved the problem.

The above message has appeared recently on my ecafe, (French made) netbook. I have no idea why this should be there but have managed to access the internet from my history list or by typing in the website. The home screen, which is giving this message, would normally show the ecafe home page (now forbidden) I have copied and pasted the information below in the hope someone can advise me on what I can do to rectify this. On reflection, the only thing that I have done recently, which might have caused this, was to plug in an external usb CD/DVD drive to load printer software. This drive had worked successfully on the netbook before, but on this occasion it switched the screen off. I thought the power cable might be at fault although the cable works fine on my other laptop.Access forbidden! You don't have permission to access the requested directory. Hiya

Are you still having this problem? If so, that error usually pops up if the Web site you requested requires special access permission (for example, a password). As it happens on the other pc, did you have to log on on that one before?

Also, is it a re-directed address? What I mean is, is it like:

www.website.com/members

if so, what happens if you just went to www.website.com and then pressed on the members link. Obviously your web page will be totally different, its just an easy way to explain what I mean

Okay, so I am having a lot of trouble getting the internet working on my laptop. Every website I go to says 403 Forbidden Error. I can't figure out why this is happening. It happens when I connect to the internet wirelessly and when it is hooked up directly to the wall.

It seemed to happen around the time when my ISP was sold to another company and they went through a transition period, but this would just be a coincidence. Not sure.

It is also happening at work, which is not using the same ISP, so I am quite confused. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

A:All Websites = 403 Forbidden Error

Not 100% sure and I'm not a professional, but I'd suggest trying this utility:

http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix

It has saved me on more than one occasion. Also, I would ask if you have done anything to edit your HOST file. I doubt it especially since most people don't mess with it and your issue is happening in more than one location that's not with the same ISP company. The HOST file blocks many sites, which isn't a bad thing if you know what you are doing, but can be highly detrimental to those who don't understand what they are dealing with.

My computer has recently started to display "HTTP 403 Forbidden Error" followed by "the website declined to show this web page" when I try to load certain web pages. In addition, Zone Alarm has been giving frequent error messages that a web page is trying to access one of my "protected" pieces of information (my pin number).

I have attempted to follow the five steps that are recommended prior to posting, but have been mostly unsuccessfull. I was unable to run the Panda online scan as nothing happened when I clicked the scan now. I made sure that my google and zone alarm pop-up blockers where off. I was able to install Spyware blaster but was unable to install IE-spyad. When I followed the download link I again received the "HTTP 403 forbidden error". I completed step 4 as I am running Windows XP with SP2. Unfortunately I cannot download or install Deckards System Scanner because when I click on the link I again get the "HTTP 403 forbidden error".

Please help. Thanks very much in advance.

Hello everyone. I am trying to fix a friends computer. It had a few viruses that were on it and got rid of them with AVG Antivirus free edition. Did another scan and it was saying that AVG has been corupted. Don't know why but got rid of it. I tried downloading Comodo Anti virus and it is giving me this message:

"Cannot intsall COMODO Antivirus

your system administrator.

Would you like to try again?"

This message is under Safe mode under the Administrator account. I try to run it in normal windows xp and it still gives me the same message.

If anyone can help me that will be great. My last resort will be to format the C drive. But I don't want to do that. Thank you.

It sounds very like some remnants from the viruses may still be around are are stopping you from being able to install new programs. I had a very similar thing happen when trying to remove s MS Tools infection.

I suggest you start a new thread in the ' Virus/Trojan/Spyware Help' section and give then all the details they require to help you. They are very good and will be able to help you out.

I'm not sure if this is really a problem with IE7 or something else, but here goes. I am trying to download some files (.pdf and an .exe) from

http://www.space-shuttle-mission.com/downloads.html

Unfortunately they do not mirror these files anywhere else, and are not willing to send them by email to registered users. I've always been able to do this on one of my two home PCs, but now (as of this month) neither of them will download a file from their download site. I can download files from various other sources without any issue (subsim.com, avsim.com, flightsim.com, linkscorner.com, filefront, etc.).

I am running Windows XP Home SP3, with all the latest patches applied. I am using IE7. Both my home PCs are wire-connected to a d-Link router which is connected to a Motorola cable modem through comcast.com. I am using AVG Free as my antivirus, and ZoneAlarm Free as my firewall.

The error message is as follows:

Hi,

I use outlook for my mail and I keep getting an email on both my hotmail accounts apparantly from hotmail staff saying this below...

"To help protect our users from automatically generated junk e-mail (or spam), MSN Hotmail periodically asks for identity verification.

Please go to http://www.hotmail.msn.com and follow the instructions. It takes only a few minutes and you can then return to using your Hotmail account.

Thank you for helping us to help reduce your junk e-mail.
Sincerely,
MSN Hotmail Staff"
Please do not reply to this e-mail as this is an unmonitored alias.

The problem is the link does not work when i click it and when i go to hotmail myself and enter my email and password it then asks me to copy what i see in the picture (random letters & numbers) i then access my account through hotmail no problem and when i click send and receive through Outlook my mail arrives no problem but if i send and receive again then same bloody email comes up and i have to do the process all over again.

does anyone get whats going on? I run a business and cannot afford this.
there does not seem to be any way of contacting hotmail for help either.

I am running XP, SP3 on 4 workstations connected to Win2000 server; AVG 2011 is used for virus protection. The browsers on 3 workstations are infected (IE, Chrome, Mozilla). Common URLs are redirected (www.google.com, www.yahoo.com); LINKEDIN.COM results in "403 Error - Forbidden"; government web sites are not affected(www.fda.gov, forecast.weather.gov). OUTLOOK 2003 cannot access POP3 email (I suspect the 403 Error). We also cannot update AVG.

Steps taken:
1) ComboFix was executed - removed two files below, but did not affect above problem
c:\documents and settings\pat\My Documents\DPE.DUS
c:\scanjet\PrecisionScanPro\HPLamp.exe
Next, tried ComboFix from my Desktop -- no change (Note: I am member of the admin)
Also, tried ComobFix as the administrator -- no change
2) MalwareBytes executed in Safemode while signed on as Administrator -- clean
3) Clamwin executed in Safemode -- found and removed several viruses but the
problem described above still remains.
4) TDSSKiller did not turn up anything.

What should I do next? I've read the other "redirect" topics, but they don't seem to fit the situation.

Thanks for any help,

pat
