Many BSoDs and Issues After Factory Reset

Q: Many BSoDs and Issues After Factory Reset

So today, I factory resettled my computer after having many BSoD and just gave up. Now, my issues involve 0x0A or 0x1E, my computer freezing with no errors, or being unable to boot up. I've done clean booting it, malware scanning, virus scanning, and windows memory test. Can you guys help me? I will attach mini dump files when I get to my computer. I'm on mobile.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Many BSoDs and Issues After Factory Reset

May be caused by some outdated drivers.

When you will be back on the computer, post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions. Attach the data in your next post.

I got this today "Your device is at risk because it’s out of date and missing important security and quality updates. Let’s get you back on track so Windows can run more securely. Select this button to get going"

I ran several command prompts including chkdsk,  got  a repair utility to repair registery... etc,  defragmented and everything  I tried every solution found online and  I still  get this error when useing updates.  I even updated my drivers. I tried everything,  s  I even uninstalled my antivirus and tried it again.   I gave up and tried to do a reset  and also tried to whipe everything and do a reset and can not. really odd.

Any insight will be appreciated.

Also on the microsoft website I saw a security update dated 09/25/2017 ( today)  and when trying to manually update it said it did not apply to my pc.  I own a Dell Desktop all in 1 64-bit operating system Product ID 00325-95873-11633-AAOEM touchscreen 24 inch all in one

I just had a factory reset for my Windows 7, and then trying to install Windows Update. I installed 20 at a time and after 3 times doing that, the Windows Update search takes a long time of 3 hours and during that time, I decided to install WSUS Offline and use it but then a BSOD occurs.
I then used System Restore to a point before the installation of WSUS Offline and on startup, there is only black screen with a non-responding cursor. I then used the power button and started the computer again and met with the same result and on the third try, I was able to get past the black screen but when I opened Google Chrome, another BSOD occurs. After that, the black screen comes and goes after startup, but BSOD will always happen.
At this time, I decided to factory reset the computer again, but the results are still the same. I used checkdisk but it only fix the problem temporarily, another BSOD occurs after quite some time. The only way for this computer is to run without BSOD is through Safemode. I already attached the DumpFileCollection but unable to get performance report due to error attempting to generate the report.

Hey there,I was having an issue with my S3-392 whereby it would not shut down or sleep.  It would just stay half on whereby the screen was black but the fan would stay on and it wouldn't fully shut down.  I eventaully managed to shut it down but when I restarted it, it wouldn't load the OS.It's out of warranty so took it to a computer repair shop who said that the OS was corrupted and would need to be reinstalled.  I agreed for them to go ahead and do this.  Since I've gotten it back I have realised that the sound volume/quality is v poor.  Obviously seeing as the reloading of the OS (Windows 10) wouldn't have had all the original Acer software/drivers then the original sound software is now gone.  Is there anywhere I can download some decent sound drivers? Also, the laptop no longer recognises my wireless mouse.  Is there something I can do about that?  Or do I just need to buy a new mouse? Many thanks!

I have a Acer Win 7 laptop and when I bought it nearly a year ago I set up a homegroup on it. Let's call it Homegroup1. I was negligent and did not record the homegroup password, or, if I did, I don't remember where. I had some issues with the laptop and sent it in for warranty work, where they replaced the hard drive and required a factory reset. When I did the factory reset, I set up a 2nd homegroup as prompted. Call this Homegroup2. My husband joined Homegroup2 on his laptop and has the password there. And all went swimmingly until it became obvious the laptop repair didn't actually fix the problem and I had to send it back in AGAIN. It returned with the same hard drive and settings, but I no longer seem to be able to access or detect Homegroup2. I am, however, detecting Homegroup1, which has an unknown-to-me password and is basically being run by a nonexistent PC (since the computer running it got reset and now has a new name and identity). I tried to enter Homegroup2 Password and Windows rejects it as the wrong password.

I would like to delete ALL these homegroups and try again because this is ridiculous. But I can't get the "original" PC (the one I had to reset) to leave the homegroup and therefore delete it, because apparently to delete the homegroup all computers have to leave it. Is there some way to do this? Because it seems like I'm in a catch-22 devised by evil geniuses.

Also I am unable to "detect" the printer on the network a... Read more

So I recently installed linux on my Surface Pro, but decided to go back to Windows 8 since wifi doesn't work properly yet. I thought, restoring shouldn't be a big deal, just insert the recovery USB you made and factory reset it. Boy, was I wrong. Any time I try a factory reset, it fails around 97%-99%. Windows won't even start booting. I kept trying it until I decided to try installing Ubuntu on it then trying to reset it again, hoping that would fix something. Well, it helped a little. The reset still fails at the same point, but now instead of not booting, it says "Recovery: Your PC needs to be repaired." At first it was because an EFI file was missing, so I booted into the recovery drive again and tried an auto-recovery. It fixed the EFI issue, but it's still at the same screen with \Windows\System32\config\system missing. Can anyone help me get my Surface Pro working again? Thanks in advance.

A:Surface Pro Factory Reset Issues

Welp, I tried to reset it a few more times, but now the "Recovery: Your PC needs to be repaired" screen doesn't even show up. It just goes straight to the UEFI firmware menu. I'm thinking about replacing it under warranty, because I have a yellow spot on my screen in the bottom right corner anyways from the adhesive not being applied right.

I have a G50-80 latop which was upgraded to Win10 quite a while ago. Recently it started having trouble with hardware and software that once worked not working any longer. I decided to use the factory reset option to take the system back to Win8.1. Before doing this I uploaded the more critical of my user files to a cloud service and created a Windows system recovery image to an external SSD connecterd via USB. I also created a system recovery CD. Once I felt all was safe, I pushed the little button and began the factory reset. It worked beautifully, the system came up in Win8.1. However, the files I had uploaded to the cloud didn't fully propagate, and I needed to restore the Win10 image to get them back. After many attempts to get the Win10 upgrade to work, I was finally able to boot Win10 and restore from the system image from the SSD. I found the files and more securely saved them for later access. Now, I needed to perform one more factory reset to bring the system back to Win8.1. But, the operations to do so resulted in the system rebooting back to the Win8.1 installation. It was not able to start the factory reset. Some reading on the internet indicates that if the HD partitions are written to by software other than the Lenovo OneKey tools that any attempt to use the factory paritions to do a reset would fail with the symptoms I was seeing. Using the Win10 disk management tool, I can see that there are 6 paritions on my HD. They are called "Reco... Read more

Hello, I am trying to attempt a factory reset on a Windows XP Professional Dell Latitude D600. Unfortunately, the computer was previously owned by another company and has a login which I do not know the username/password to. The laptop does NOT have a CD drive and I am using a USB drive to attempt to fix the laptop. If the factory reset does not work, I will be trying to install Ubuntu. I do not have a Windows disk to repair/reset the computer.

On startup (without any other bootup USB drives), it would allow me to access the login screen but I would not be able to get through as I do not know the password/username. I have already tried using Ophcrack (no users would show when loaded), Offline NT Password & Registry Editor (no Windows installation was found), and Trinity Rescue Kit (no Windows installation was found). I have also tried to install Ubuntu with no success. I have tried to use Crtl + F11 / F11 to access a "System Restore" which did not work during startup. (Dell does not have this feature on some of its older laptops, not sure.)

Key Information:
- Windows XP Professional
- Dell Latitude D600
- Unknown password/username
- Password recovery software failed to work
- Failed to install Ubuntu, other programs failed to see hard drive as valid Windows installation (despite loading up as Windows normally)
- Factory reset option unable to be reached from boot menu

Hi all -I know I am talking about a very old machine but I am hoping there is someone out there that would be willing and able to provide helpful  advice - some background -  in my dire need I purchased a 'refurb' Lenovo Thinkpad T400 from who now turns out to be an unreputable seller - I was silly enough not to worry about recovery disks or even a 30 day warranty - now I am paying dearly for my negligence.  This machine has had issues from day one that I thought I could work my way thru reading forums, Lenovo site etc. but nothing has worked.  My first challenge was trying to just get the right-click on touchpad to produce context menu - I searched and searched and reluctantly loaded 3rd party softwares to no avail.  I gave up on that only to discovered that when I loaded any antimalware program my cursor would not open that program nor would it open any other program on the machine. So I uninstalled the antimalware. So I can't really run to see if I have a virus.  To make a long story short right now NONE of the function keys work nor the THINKVANTAGE.  When I reboot and attempt to go to safe mode, bios utility I get nothing except opening up windows where sometimes the cursor will open a program or not and the trying to open programs from the start menu or the task bar is hit or miss same happens in the start menu and trying to open a browser.  I am running on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit and would like to go back to factory settings, but ag... Hello! I'm having some major problems with my laptop and I was hoping for some troubleshooting assistance. A short history, first. You can skip down to the bold if you don't think you need any context.

A few weeks ago I started getting regular BSoD (not the one I'm reporting now) on my Acer laptop, as well as errors when attempting to write to the drive, followed by the dreaded 'click of doom'. I knew I was dealing with a failing hard drive so I immediately purchased a new one and backed up data manually (I also keep a regular backup via Acronis).

The new hard drive arrived, I hooked it in and attempted to restore the full Acronis backup. No good, backup corrupt. Of course I don't have another one, that's way too smart for me. Fine, I think - I'll use Acronis' drive clone to copy everything over directly, since the failing hard drive still has some spins left. That didn't work either, as Acronis gets totally jacked up when it has to talk to bad sectors.

At this point I switched to Clonezilla, which 'worked' but did what I found out over another eight hours of troubleshooting was nearly irreparable damage to the MBR or file structure on the fresh drive. The only thing I could do with the new drive at this point was run Acer's factory reset from the recovery partition, which somehow arrived intact on the new drive.

So I did that, and miraculously it worked. I began transferring files back over from my manual backup, and reinstalling programs, starting with Steam and... Read more

What's the model name and model number of your Dell, and what's the 7-character "service tag/serial" number on it?

Using a third-party antivirus app (Norton, McAfee, AVG, etc.) in Windows 10 can cause problems, especially when trying to install an upgrade/update.
My advice is to stick with its built-in antivirus app, Windows Defender.

I'm not qualified to help you in the "Virus & Other Malware Removal" section with infection issues, so be patient until one of the specialists here replies.
This section is very busy, so you may not get a reply for 24 - 48 hours.

If warranty is already expired, why do you need a factory recovery ? ( when everybody usually want a clean install ). I am at a loss here.

In a MBR partitioned disk, giving OEM Recovery partition the "Active" mark can be used to kick start the recovery process. However GPT partition scheme changes everything and this old trick won't work anymore. If the installation image inside the "Recovery" partition is in "WIM" format, you may be able to manually restore the OS from it.

wendy1358 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! While Microsoft tells you that there is no risk in the Win10 Upgrade, because they let you believe that you can always revert back to your original OS and setup within 30 days, the ugly fact of the matter is that the Win10 GoBack function has proven to be unreliable -- and when it fails, it can leave machines in a corrupted state -- which doesn't always happen, but it does happen often enough to be a problem and you won't get any warning in advance that it is going to trash your PC!If that is not bad enough, the Win10 Upgrade is know, in some cases, to corrupt the Recovery partition stored there by the OEM that built the original machine. This pretty much guarantees that no HP Recovery is going to work: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Video-Display-and-Touch/HP-Recovery-Manager-Blocked-After-Windo...This means that RESET no longer works on your laptop due to your doing the Win10 Upgrade. To actually restore your PC to its original condition, you need something known as HP Recovery Media. To see if there is Recovery Media available for your PC, I will need the detailed product number:  http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824?jumpid=reg_r1002_usen_c-001_title_r0001We can proceed once you provide the information. Thanks

Hi everyone,

I have had to do a factory reset on my PC, My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium.                                     PROCESSOR: AMD E 350 PROCESSOR 1.60 GHZ
RAM: 4.00 GB (350 USABLE)
SYSTEM TYPE: 64-BIT OPERATING SYSTEM

I would like ALL FREE software to help me stay safe and clean and yes I know common sense will help me safe and clean.

At the moment I have Bitdefender Antivirus FREE installed and I would like to know if I could also add the following:

1. Malwarebytes FREE Antimalware?

2. CCleaner?

3. Add Block Plus?

4. Heimdal Free (Heimdal Free is a program that scans your computer for outdated and possibly vulnerable programs and automatically updates them to the latest version for you.)

5. Last but not least FREE SpywareBlaster?

Thank you in advance for your help, advice and comments, I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Kind Regards

1. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free: Certainly yes. MBAM Free is an effective on-demand scanner and also adept at removing malware. Just remember to run a scan regularly, as the free version do not offer real-time protection and automatic scanning.2. CCleaner: Yes. Don't use the Registry Cleaner option, though.3. Adblock Plus: Yes. If you use Chrome however then I recommend uBlock, which is less resource intensive than Adblock Plus.4. Heimdal Free: I prefer Secunia PSI, as Secunia scans everything - Heimdal doesn't.5. SpywareBlaster Free: Yes.Hope this helps Regards,Alex

Product came with Windows 8.1 (not sure if 32 or 64 bit).  Am attempting recovery for a friend who is not technically capable.  Using HP Factory Recovery to do a full factory reset using the 5 DVD set created upon initial setup of the machine.  Have since upgraded to Windows 10, but that upgrade can be done again upon a full reset.  Am at the Factory Image Recovery Preparation page and have the Reformatting and Copying Files lines checked.  Progress goes to 12% with 18 minutes remaining and process freezes (multiple attempts and always freezes at 12%). After quite a long wait, an error message appears stating that the Destination Drive is not Connected.  Attempted to use an extrenal DVD drive as suggested in a tech forum, but this did not work as the system failed to read from the external drive. Is there a solution to this problem that does not require the disassembly of the machine to take the hard drive external as suggested in another tech forum?  Or is there a clean DVD image set that HP can provide that will not cause this problem.

Hi, The machine originally shipped with Windows 8.1 64bit ( Home ). If you wish to order a replacement set of Recovery Media for Windows 8.1, you can do so starting on the link below. http://support.hp.com/us-en/mediaorder/hp-15-g000-notebook-pc-series/6545564/model/6761879/softwareitem/819421-001/step1 An alternative option, if you're intending to upgrade the notebook to Windows 10 again, would just be to perform a clean installation of 10 - as the machine has been previously upgraded to 10, a hardware profile ( Digital Entitlement ) will have been recorded by the activation servers. As long as the previous installation of Windows 10 had activated Ok after the upgrade from 8.1, you can just create your own installation media and perform a clean installation as detailed in the guide on the following link.  Note: At the activation screen, select 'I don't have a Product key' - Windows will activate automatically once the installation has completed. http://www.howtogeek.com/224342/how-to-clean-install-windows-10/ Regards, DP-K
