T470s Unable to connect with USB

Q: T470s Unable to connect with USB

For starters, I´m not a PC or IT expert so I´ll just explain my problem as I know it:I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T470s and I´m trying to open the files on an USB pendrive. When I connect the pendrive to one of the usb ports, the pendrive is clearly connect (light on) but the PC doesn´t open it.I´ve look all over and can´t find something like "connected devices" or something that would meet the same effect.I´ve found all sorts of troubleshooting on the community concerning connecting phones through USB but haven´t found anything on recognizing or accessing a pendrive´s content. Can someone please help. Bare in mind that my knowledge is very basic. Thanks a million!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Just got off the phone with Verizon. They had me push the reset button and I was able to connect to the internet again. I mentioned how slow it takes for pages to load. She said if I have two firewalls running that can happen, then eventually it blocks your internet connection. I have the free Avira and am only using the Windows Firewall. She said the Verizon router has a firewall but it's a low security. So I went on the internet was able to get on some sites, but then others wouldn't connect again, said there is no internet connection. All the lights on the router are on. So far it's still working, but this is what happened before when I lost my connection completely.

I have Windows XP, tried it both on IE 8 and Firefox. The router is an Actiontec MI42WR. The problem was with both my desktop and laptop wired connections.

Hello guys,

I have just finished my very first computer build and am rather happy with most things.

Unfortunately I am having problems connecting to the internet.

I have a temporary dongle in place and because it's my only option for about a month I kinda need it to work.

When I first connected it I found my connection and I successfully connected, I downloaded Google Chrome and Steam, then unfortunately it randomly stopped working.

Where the strength bar should of been, there was a large red cross, when I found my connection it read "The settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network." I Googled this and people said delete your connection and reconnect, that didn't work, so then I tried to set my security type to something different or off as recommended in a solved post, the problem persisted.

Now after restarting my computer several times it sometimes rejects my password, or comes up with the "the settings for the network..." and on rare occasions it connects then 5 minutes later comes up wit my original problem.

I have tried resetting my connection details as what is saved on my laptop and mac and they don't work either.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Regards, Lee.

Hi there,
I'm hoping someone can help me out with this because I have tried everything I can think of with no luck.

My brother had just moved in and tried to install a wireless router and apparently everything was running fine for about 5 minutes and then the connections went weird:

When trying to connect to some websites an error message appears (can not display page) when diagnostics are run it says the connection to http and https is running fine, but it is unable to connect to ftp sites. Could be a problem with firewall settings.

I get the same message when trying to connect to windows live messanger and running the troubleshoot. FTP connection problem, check the firewall.

I had zone alarm installed, turned it off, and checked the sites, still no connection. So I turned it back on, changed a few program settings (to ensure it was allowing messanger.exe and explorer.exe) still didn't work. Uninstalled zone alarm, turned on the windows firewall and that's where it is now.

My brother called into my service provider, they got him to run a bunch of spyware/antivirus diagnostics, nothing came up (as it shouldn't I have PC Tools anti virus and spyware running) and then told him it seemed as though the connection was fine but a program on the computer was blocking some specific sites. So obviously no help there.

Anyone have any idea what could be the problem? I can't access my mail in outlook (pop3 server can't connect) and pretty much any website. google.com works, faceboo... Read more

Hi tennille578,There are many possible reasons this is happening and the contributing factors vary for every individual computer.Start by clearing old files and settings may be preventing you from connecting to the Internet.Click on Tools.Select Internet Options.Click the General tab.Click the Delete Files button. When the box opens, put a check in Delete All Offline Content.Click Okay.Click Delete Cookies. When you are prompted to confirm this selection, click Okay.Click Settings.Click View Objects.Click View, and then click Details. If Damaged appears in the Status column for any program file, remove that program file.Close the Downloaded Program Files dialog box.In the Settings dialog box, click OK .Under History, click Clear History, and then click Yes when you are prompted to confirm the selection. In the Internet Options dialog box, click Okay.Try to browse the Internet. If no joy, lets see if we can try and repair the internet connection.Try running Winsock XP fix. This utility can fix tricky most connection problems.See if there is anything in this Micro$oft Article that helps: Page Cannot be Displayed

Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help. We recently installed a new wireless router, and all the other computers in our house can access the internet. But for some reason I can only connect to the network, even though it says there's full connectivity.

I called the customer careline for our internet providers, and they said it was a problem with my computer settings, rather than the router. But they said they couldn't advise me any further unless I paid for it, hence my need to look for advice elsewhere....

Thanks!

try a tcp/ip reset and post the results - just the text - not a video at this stage

what security suite do you have or ever had on the PC

lets also see some ping tests and another ipconfig/all - just post the text
------------------------------------------------------------------------
ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results in a reply here

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results to notepad and then automatically open notepad.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results to a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy
Now go back to the forum - reply and then right click in the reply box and paste

I'm working with a brand new dell XPS, although the norton security has been buggy with it. I think I have it completely uninstalled now, and the problem persists.

All of them say things like proxy and firewall, but I have my router set to the most enabling and loosey-goosey security settings it will go, and I have gone in to the Windows Firewall to allow each program seperately.

Hi brian,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team.

The problems you are having could be related to an infection or a configuration issue with the Norton Firewall component of Norton Internet Security.

What version of Norton Internet Security were you using? Also, when you removed Norton Internet Security, did you use the Norton Removal Tool?

The first thing I would advise you to do is to use the free Norton Online Security Scan to check for infections. Click on the link below and follow the instructions to run both tests.

Norton Security Scan

Please let me know if any infections were found and also what version of Norton Internet Security you were using. If you were using a pre - 2009 version, and have a valid subscription, you are entitled to a free update to Norton Internet Security 2009, which I highly recommend. Please complete the Norton Security Scan first, let me know if any infections were found and I can then assist you further.

Thank you,
Mike

Hi - I am having problems connecting to the web using IE but the problem seems only to be with my user account.

I am running XP and have 4 user accounts for various members of the family. When I try to connect to the web via IE I just get the normal error screen. I tried different browsers, including Avant and Opera but still no joy.

I then got in contact with the 'technical' section of my ISP (NTL) who after running various tests stated that I must have a problem with IE and I should contact my local PC World store to see if they could help! This did not seem to explain why I could not access the web via a different browser.

I then tried to connect via the other 3 user accounts and was able to do so each time. It appears that it is only my account that seems somehow to have become 'corrupt'
Is there an answer to this? My e-mail is fine.

Any help would be most appreciated. I have even had to register my wife on TSG just so I can post this question!
Thanks

I just got my laptop home from Geek Squad and I can't connect to the internet. At first I could connect to the network, but couldn't get online. Now when I try to connect to my network it says that it could not connect to it because it is not receiving a response from the network. I've tried it with two different networks, one secured and the other not, and got the same for both. I've tried resetting the router, unplugging it and plugging it back in, I tried resetting my wireless adapter, nothing. I suspect it's either a hardware problem due to Geek Squad malpractice, or possibly something screwy with a system update.
Any help would be... helpful.

i think you need to upgrade the driver version for your wireless adapter since you tried connecting to several networks and having the same problem then it is isolated it is not on the your wireless network but it is on the adapter.

A:unable to connect

After my wife updated windows 8 such problem rose.Click to expand...

the update may have changed the device driver for the wireless adapter

whats the make and exact model of the PC
you could goto the manufacturers website and download the wireless driver and re-install
OR you could goto device manager and roll-back the driver - if it has been installed
to do that
goto device manager

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Device Manager
For Windows 8
If you happen to be using a keyboard with Windows 8, the quickest way to open Device Manager is via its shortcut on the Power User Menu, accessible by pressing the WINDOW key and the X key together.
If on a touch screen - have a read here http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows-8/a/device-manager-windows-8.htm
Once you are in device manager then navigate to:

network adaptors, click on the + > you should see a list of devices
one will have a name with "wireless" in
right click on that device
Properties>
Driver tab>
there will be an option to roll-back

I've been having this problem for awhile. I'll be browsing on the internet, maybe running a game like World of warcraft in the background, or have AIM on, and then all of a sudden I go to load a new page and i just get "Unable to connect". However, my computer still says I'm still connected to the internet, and WoW and AIM still run perfectly fine. But if i log out of either WoW or AIM, then i can't get back on. I tried resetting my router and stuff but the only way i can get my internet back is to restart. Once i restart, internet is up and running again on its own.

This normally happens after about 2-3 hours of continued use OR within an hour if im downloading something, and about a day if i just leave my computer alone. I dont know how to make it stop and it REALLY sucks when im in the middle of a really long download and i lose my internet connection halfway through. Ive been trying to download and play a game for 3 days now but once i start trying to download it, i get halfway there...then boom. i have to do it alll over again. I tried turning off my firewall, just to see if it stops causing that "unable to connect" thing, but i'm still getting it. I have no idea what to do

We have a desktop plugged via ethernet to a home hub which will not connect to the web. My laptop (from which I'm typing) is connected via wireless from the same home hub. The diagnosis program says check the firewall settings HTTP port (80), HTTPS port (443) and FTP port (21). We've removed the AVAST AV but this hasn't worked. HELP!!

Do you have a modem and router? The ports may also need to be open in the router if you have one.

My current home setup is like this. I have my laptop connected directly to my modem which is also connected to a wireless router.

All other computers are able to access the 'net save for this one pc. It connects for a minute or two after startup (I'm able to surf, download, connect to MSN messanger etc), but then dies after that. If I restart the pc/modem/router, the same thing happens - It will connect to the net for a few minutes before failing again.

However, the one program that's able to stay connected is BitTorrent. Signal strength for the wireless connection is reported as excellent the whole time.

I've tried to connect the modem directly to that pc, but it's just the same thing over again except it happens in cycles - connect for a few seconds, unable to connect for several minutes, connect again for a couple seconds, etc.

Can anyone help me out?

Hi,
I recently installed Window XP in one of our PCs. All
other PCs are using window 2000 professional. When I
tried to map to the C drive of the PC with Window XP, I
entered the username and password, there is always an error, which
states "incorrect password or unknown username for:".
Any idea what is wrong?

A:unable to connect XP from LAN

I usually connect to my other computers with DOMAINNAME\Username and then password. But since I don't run a domain at home I substitute the computername for the domainname. But the account you use must be established on the computer your trying to connect to.

Hi Bad and welcome to seven forums!

When you are connecting at work, do you have a static IP? Or How do you connect at work? Also could you please tell me if you have 7 HP or 7 pro, or ultimate? What type is your router and your card?

Thanks,

I have a new Sony notebook in its virgin state except I have set up internet connexion identical to that on 3 other [also stand-alone] pc's. Dial-up produces Error 676, after which it's impossible to re-dial. From Outlook Express I get 'another application is using the modem'. No other app is open [there's almost nothing loaded anyway]. Modem works - I've sent a fax; diagnostic reports 'this device is working properly'. My ISP has checked and rechecked my settings - all ok. Sony say, 'close the other application' !!!!!

Any ideas?

Good evening,

I am not sure whether this query belongs in this thread or the networking thread. Sorry if I've made the wrong decision.

I am having some difficulty connecting to the internet with anything at all - Internet Explorer, Firefox, World of Warcraft client, etc. I connect through cable internet, and have wrapped up a lengthy conversation with the tech support people at my ISP. They are convinced, and I'm inclined to agree, that the problem is on my machine. The proper lights are flashing on my modem (which connects directly to my computer). I have an icon on my taskbar indicating that I am connected properly. The ISP folks are suggesting that something, possibly a firewall, is preventing any connection. Everything was working fine earlier today, and I did nothing to chane my system, but it would seem something has kicked in.

So, the bottom line is, as far as my ISP is concerned, everything looks fine. As far as I can tell, everything appears ok, IE and Firefox are just unable to connect to anything.

I have ZoneAlarm and AVG anti-virus (free version) installed, and have tried disabling them. This does nothing.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance.

Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.livefish.com.au.

that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

I am at a loss. I have followed empty cache, and every fixup I could find and I still cannot access this one solitary website which went down a few days ago.
I am told the website is online now and is being accessed by other website users.
Not even my old pc can access it.
All other sites and applications do load just fine.
My IE cannot find it either.

I have been having this problem on almost all games i try and play. Originally it started out as bad latency in World of Warcraft and frequent disconnections, after reinstalling i could barely patch, now i can't even connect. I downloaded several other games, including Allods online, after a night of trying to patch i got the game running only to log in and see "A connection could not be established". C9 didn't work also. I have small knowledge of what to do but so far i've:

- Opened ports they told me to.
- Disabled firewall, changed the exceptions, etc.
- Unplugged router, modem, and anything inbetween.
- Connected directly to the modem.

I don't know what else i can do. This computer was running great until i downloaded Blizzards new patch, and everything just fell apart. Please for the sake of my sanity help me.

I am trying to connect a laptop to our network. When I first logged on a box came up asking for a Netware login (we don't use Novell). I went to the network adapters and unchecked Client Service for netware, NWLink NetBios and NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBios and made sure the DHCP was checked for TCP/IP. I rebooted the laptop and went and tried to connect to the network, still came up with unable to connect, check domain name, etc. Is there anything else I can do or do I have to reload Windows XP? Thanks for all your help

Hi, I have an HP Compaq 6520s laptop which would not allow me to access Local Office's Wi-Fi. SSID configured is not broadcasted so it needs to be manually configured. It's running on on XP (although the operating system bind with the unit when bought was Vista)

Whenever I tried to connect, it always tells me that "Wireless not available". Although, I was able to connect via Blackberry and other laptops running on Vista.

Could it be that the downgrade of the Operating system affected the performance of the wi-fi?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

I could use some help with my mom's laptop. I am nearly computer illiterate; I've just been able to learn a few things through searching online and fumbling around on my own, so please be patient with my stupidity.

Mom was using her computer earlier. She handed it to me and I tried to access a website and since then (almost 12 hours ago). The wireless home network is working (I'm using it on my laptop) and the network shows as working on hers also. However, every page I try to access says "Unable to connect. Can't establish a connection to the server at ..." Internet explorer gives a similar message.

Does anyone have any ideas on what to try?

Thanks,

Good Afternoon all, I hope you're enjoying this beautiful weather!! Well, you won't be able to for another few minutes.

I'm here because the web is useless and despite me searching through pages of forum threads and Google searches, I have found nothing that relates to my problem exactly.

Here is a (very aesthetically-pleasing, if I do say so myself!) diagram of my setup of computers around my home:

PC 2 is getting its internet through ICS from PC 1. This is done in the diagram through a yellow line (an ethernet / CAT5 cable) - works fine. The red lines in the diagram represent any wireless connections amongst the (can I call it a network yet? )

Now, my whole intention here is for the computers to happilly share their files over the network, without any of this homegroup hassle - as it's not really needed afaik?

All of the computers are visible on eachother's 'Network' page in W7.

Now, here is what can access what:

When choosing another PC from PC-1:I can access PC-2 (Daniel-PC) and its files fine.
I can access laptop (MANDY-PC) and its files fine.

When choosing another PC from PC-2:I cannot access PC-1 (Daniel-GPC). I receive the inevitable message of:
I can access laptop (MANDY-PC) and its files fine.

When choosing another PC from LAPTOP (MANDY-PC):I can access PC-1 (Daniel-GPC) and its files fine.
I can access PC-2 (Daniel-PC) and its files fine.

The part in red that I've highlighted above is the problem here. The fact that I can access PC1 -> PC2, but ... Read more

A:Unable to connect to one PC, but can the other way

Ideally you would place a switch before PC-1 then plug both PC-1 and PC-2 into that switch rather than messing with ICS because ICS appears to be the problem in this case although that is hard to say for certain.

Homegroups would be an easier way to go, it's the opposite of a hassle which you are having now.

Besides that you could try adding the credentials from PC-1 to PC-2, via the control panel>credential manager>Windows credentials.

Also be sure and check that the time/date settings are in sync on all machines.
