Preferred Solution: How to find out the this product is original or Refurbished. (in case no information available in dell Warrant site)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: How to find out the this product is original or Refurbished. (in case no information available in dell Warrant site)

You'll need to ask the vendor from whom you purchased the system - only they'll know.

I did some general googling and it appears as though it is processor related.  I tried removing the battery and power cord, holding power for 30 seconds and then plugging back in but no changes.  7 beeps over and over again with no change.  This should be covered by warranty, correct?

Hey there, I recently purchased a refurbished HP Elite 8300 SFF Small Form Factor PC on April 22 of 2017, with one year warranty. I have a problem that I believe can be fixed under warranty. The product page for this computer says that the warranty expired, however, this is a refurb and when I purchased it from TigerDirect.ca, the support page led me to HP and the 800 number.  Can someone help me?! Thanks, HPISAWESOMEILOV Ps, apologies for potentially posting in the wrong forum. I think I'm after something unsolvable but I give it a go anyway. Some time ago I bought a brand new ultrabook u840w.
It came with preinstalled windows 7 and there was a sticker with product key on it. Unfortunately that sticker came off long time ago without me noticing so I didn't take a photo of it. I've recently updated to windows 10. The problem I have is that my HDD died. I knew it's about to happen so I took a photo of product key windows 10 was showing. Unfortunately after I replaced my HDD and did a clean windows 10 installation I can't use that product key to activate my windows. I contacted Microsoft and they advised me that if I can provide them with the product key what was on that sticker when I bought my laptop they can activate my copy. Is there any chance I can find out the product key? Otherwise it would cost me $199 and I definitely don't want to pay that... Any help would be highly appreciated.

I think I need something what's not really possible but I give it a go anyway. Some time ago I bought a brand new ultrabook U840W with preinstalled windows 7. I had that sticker on the back of my laptop with product key but that came off long time ago. The problem I have now is that I've recently updated to windows 10 and shortly after that my HDD failed. I replaced my HDD and reinstalled windows but product key my win 10 showed before is not valid as an activation key. I contacted Microsoft to see what my options are and they advised me that if I can provide them with windows 7 key I had at the beginning they can solve this problem for me. Is there any chance I can get it somehow?? Any help would be highly appreciated.

If I replace the hard drive and need a fresh copy of Windows 10, will I be able to get it activated? I can't find the original Windows product key anywhere. Is this something that Dell may have somewhere associated with my Service Tag or Express Service Code? Is there any other way to find the original Windows Product Key?

Hello there,

I'm trying to upgrade my wife's computer; the problem, however, is that she's running on a Dell XPS system that's about... two years, this December. The general specs:

CPU: Intel Pentium D 820 2.8Ghz
RAM: 1Gb DDR2
Video Card: 512Mb GeForce 7300GT

I'm trying to upgrade her system since we game a bit. Everything was fine until she started looking at Age of Conan. At the very least I know she needs more memory. I have a feeling she'll need a video card upgrade, but I'm going to do one thing at a time and start with the less expensive memory upgrade.

That being said, I'm having a little trouble getting the information I need to be certain I get compatible memory, and eventually, a compatible card. I just downloaded and ran CPU-Z to get some more specific information, but the damn motherboard is apparently made by Dell.

Dell 0YC523
Chipset: Intel i945P/PL/G/GZ

I'd like to bump her up to 4 gigs. She has four slots, but on the new computer I just built only two of the four slots seemed designed to accommodate normal memory. If her motherboard is the same then I'll need to buy 2 sticks of 2GB, instead of 2 sticks of 1GB.

So, I guess my question is, can her motherboard accommodate 4 sticks of memory, or only 2? Regardless of how many modules I can use, what kind of memory would you suggest?

I suppose I should also solicit video card suggestions since, as I said, I have a feeling her current card won't cut i... Read more

That's all she needs or I should say what will provide the best boost and if you put your model in, the configurator will show you what you can use.
Although 7300 GT is a weak card for gaming. You can pick up an 8600GT well priced these days under $100 with 512 ram onboard and various rebate deals that would also be a good idea.

Hi,I have a question for you, I just buy a HP laptops, in August. I tried to register to Windows 7 upgrade program. But the tool, to check if it is available for this upgrade, does not validate my laptop, it says that the laptop does not have eligibility for the program.I need to know how I can check, if my laptop is or not a refurbished product? I payed as a new product. Because, if I not use the tool, and I submit the product  number and serial number, the page tells me that the product number is wrong. Please, how can I check if my laptop is a refurbished product?Regards,Israel.

A:How to know if my laptop is a refurbished product?

Hi,  If u have an additiona R at the end of the product number (for Eg: NB234UA#ABA is the product for new notebook and NB234UAR#ABA is the product number for a refurbished notebook.  If KS453AV#ABA is the product for new notebook Then KS453AVR#ABA will be teh product number of refurbished notebook).. So if you have an additional R in the product number, it means it is a Refurbished notebook. If not its a New notebook. Regards, Mohammed Mukrams

Hello community, I have recently purchased a refurbished HP compaq 6200 from a local dealer: http://thepcroom.ca/product/hp-compaq-6200-pro-sff-intel-g620-2-6ghz-8gb-ddr3-500-gb-hdd/ The dealer informed me at the time of purchase that there is no operating system installed on the computer, but that it comes with a Windows 7 pro product key.  I have gone to the Microsoft website, and input my product key in order to be able to download the ISO for the appropriate OS. However, Microsoft informs me that I need to contact the company from which this desktop is from in order to obtain the ISO.  So here I am. I have a W7 product key, but no ISO. This is my first post here. I recently bought a refurbished PC. It's one that was likely used in an office situation. It was originally loaded with Windows XP Professional. Now it has a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium. I got a really good price on the computer and I would just like to be sure that the software on it is genuine and legitimate. I looked up on the "System" tab in the Control Panel and saw that it has the Genuine Windows Logo down there. It says windows is activated but I noticed that the Product ID has "OEM" in it. I was under the impression that only "Pre-loaded" pc's coming directly from the manufacturer had OEM product Id's and Keys. Is this a clue that the software is NOT Legitimate? Are there any other ways to tell if the software is Legit?

Thanks

A:Refurbished PC Purchase - OEM Product Key - Legitimate?

Anybody can actually buy an OEM copy of a Windows OS and install it to a computer. Lots of people do in order to get the lowest price for Windows. With this method, that copy of Windows is now permanently tied to that computer. So, you won't be able to reuse the license key again on another computer down the road.

Hi Guys,
Is there any reason why my service tag is not recognized b the support site?

Do I need to register my product somewhere for it to be recognized?
I am not worried about warranty because this is long gone. I have a hard time upgrading my drivers because I don;t know what hardware I have inside.
Thanks,

A:Service Tag not recognized for Refurbished product

You'll need to contact your seller about the service tag issue - any one of a number of things could have happened - different parts swapped into the case for a system, or a different case used for the original system - or the service tag in system setup totally changed.  Only the seller can tell you for sure.

I'm posting this on TenForums so others will learn from my experience upgrading to Windows 10. But I would really like to know if anyone else has seen a computer with the square Windows 8 sticker, but no product key either on a label or in firmware/bios? <- that's just bolded because that is the main question I have :-)

I purchased a manufacturer refurbished ASUS X750JA laptop on ebay. It has the official Windows 8 little square sticker on the back, which to me indicates it should have a Windows 8 product key stored in UEFI firmware. It came with 2x 1TB hard drives. I didn't want to mess with Windows 8 or 8.1 at all, so I booted the laptop and it came up with the OOBE Windows 8.1 screen as expected. I entered audit mode and exported the drivers to a USB flash drive, then shut it down.

I pulled out the primary HDD and installed a completely blank SSD and clean installed Windows 10 Home. Created a local user account, and Windows 10 was not activated! *raise one eyebrow here* Ran showkey plus and no product key in UEFI/bios. So I connected the HDD to a USB adapter (which is why I did not bother making a back up image first - because I have lots of other means of making a backup image from the removed HDD). Looked at the software registry hive with showkey plus and it showed an OEM Windows 8 Home product key. Changed the Windows 10 product key and entered the Windows 8 product key and it activated just like it should.

If something had happened to that Wind... Read more

The problem with this is going to be that M$ will not accept an OEM Windows key for that download page.  so even if you had it, it would not work.  That sites does work with retail keys, however.  So then the quest would be to get a retail key, or just borrow a Windows 7 install disk to make the "rescue disk".Assuming this PC came with Windows 7 installed, you can make a "Recovery Media" set from Recovery Manager, or order a set, which will reinstall the software on the PC - "facotory fresh" as they say.

Hello,

I have an issue where I don't have a Windows installation disk to my computer. The PC came with XP already installed, and if it had an installation disk, it's very lost.

I do however have the product key, as it had been stickered to the side of the CPU. I'm betting on a no, but if I have a product key from my computer and borrow an installation disk from my friend, would that work?

If no, is there anything I can do at this point besides buying new software if I need to reinstall windows?

Thank you so much for any help you could be.

A:Original product key, different disk?

What you have is an OEM version. The product key sticker from Microsoft is your license, and if you can find a compatible Windows disk you can use it. Depending on the brand of the machine, you may need a specific OEM brand disk, like Dell.

Or, press "alt+f10" when power on computer to enter boot menu and then choose system recovery. if system recovery fails, you can at least save critical data. create a bootable media to boot your computer up and move your import data out from the damaged hard drive.

I'm considering buying this refurbished HP at an internet cafe that gets old computers wholesale from companies and re-loads the OS. There is also a Dell model. My main questions are:

Whether or not these PCs are defect prone or won't last long ?

Is it better to get a "good for it's time" used PC or a "lower end by today's standard " new PC

Does this sound like a good deal?

Does the chipset have decent upgrade potential?
Is a 128 video card ok?

There is also this model :

$245
Dell Optiplex 210L

Pentium 4
3.2 ram
250G drive
DVD-RW
XP pro

I don't have anymore stats on that one but I'm mainly concerned with how stable or durable the system is compred to the HP. There are alot of variants of this model at the store. I've heard alot of mixed messages about wether Dell's are good or not but would just need to know how they are compared to the HP above.

A refurbished PC sounds like a cheaper way to replace my PC as money is an issue...I know the processor will be out of date. But am curious how quickly the hard drives go, as that seems to be the... Read more

Is there a way to determine the type of original installation from the product key?

Example: I get computers for troubleshooting/repair that have the COA on the side/top and I need to set up the OS from scratch because the OS is too malware infested for cleaning. I have several kinds of installation disks here, full version retail box, retail boxed upgrade, OEM, Academic, etc., etc. and the owner has no OS disk.

The only way I have determined this in the past is to simply load one after the other until I find the one the product key works with. Is there a way to determine ahead from the product key which CD is required?

Unless you are a licensed attorney (a member of the Bar in your state) and you specialize in software copyright issues, please don't sidetrack this thread with legal issues. We have the COA attcached to the case and there is nothing illegal about this.

A:A way t determine the type of original installation from Product Key??

Since the COA is stuck to the side of the case, I'm betting this is an OEM copy. I've never seen the COA in that form for a retail copy. I have a few retail copies of XP-Pro here, and the COA is firmly glued to the box, and there's no way I see of getting it off.

I placed an order on dell outlet for a "new" xps 13 2-in-1 laptop.
It was listed as new so I was assuming it is new.
However, when I received my item it was not packed like what I would expect for new laptop. Therefore, I sent an email to CSR to tell me the condition of my laptop. I was told it was certified refurbished.
Can anyone tell me if this is right? There is price difference between a new and a refurbished one. And why would Dell outlet present it as a new one while it is actually not?

Is there a "refurbished" sticker on the bottom of the system?  If not, it is new - it may have been repackaged but was never used.
Everything sold through the outlet is "refurbished" as defined by the FTC (same goes for replacement parts used for warranty repairs).

Anyone have experience with "refurbished" products from Dell? Particularly laptops? I have a friend that would like to get a laptop but has a pretty limited budget.

It seems like they have some good deals but I wonder about reliability.

A:Dell Refurbished Laptops

I find the refurb Dell to be a far superior buy than new. When you buy new you are often the first person to ever turn on the system, a refurb has been turned on and failed so it is sent back for extensive testing not done to a new system, after testing to make sure it works properly it is now sold at a good discount.

The refurb looks like new and has exactly the same warranty it just cost less. The only area where it is not a better deal is if you need some specific feature, you cannot order them built with extra parts beyond a few.

Dell gets so many refurbs that the best method for buying one is to know what you want ahead of time and what you are willing to pay for it, they have new systems come up for sale several times a day so if you have the time and know what you need it can be a very satisfactory system purchase.

Yesterday, I tried to help my father to activate some used laptops. 3 of 4 proceeded without difficulties. The last one has only 2 days left for activation.

I tried entering the product code key that is stored in the battery compartment. it is registered as a windows 7 Pro.

Upon completion, the activation program responded: "The product key you have entered will not work with this edition of Windows 7. You must run a windows 7 home premium product key."

To my surprise, yes, the current software says it is windows home!

I called microsoft. they verified that it is a genuine registration number but since it is a pre-installed program they cannot help me with it. They said I need to contact Lenovo. I haven't been able to find technical help on their website.

Of course, there is no warranty left on these used computers and they did not come with any software cd or usb.

I am hoping someone can help us figure out how to go about making this laptop usable.

You can`t use a Home Premium key to activate Pro.

Install Home Premium.

I have a Windows 7 Pro 32bit ISO that I used to reinstall Windows 7 on my cousin's laptop, he bought his key from the Ultimate Steal and downloaded it through Digital River. I also have Windows 7 Pro 32bit on my laptop from a different ISO purchased through the Ultimate Steal and downloaded through Digital River.

Can I clean install Win 7 on my laptop using my cousin's ISO and my original product key?

I got my original product key using Magical Jelly Bean.

**I plan on using the Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool.

A:ISO win 7 - ultimate steal- original product key - complete reinstall?

If you have the legitimate Windows 7 Pro 32 bit key, the media from which you install does not matter. You may even download the Windows 7 Pro 32 bit with SP1 from Digital River - in case your previous download was without SP1 and use that ISO

If for some reason Microsoft's USB/DVD download tool is problematic, ( it happened in my case with a Lexar pendrive) , use the Universal USB installer Universal USB Installer – Easy as 1 2 3 | USB Pen Drive Linux to create the bootable pendrive.

I bought a used Dell Desktop computer from Dell a few years back. As advertized, it did not come with any software/OS installed or OS disc and I was fine with that because I had a copy of Vista I previously purchased. However when I received it, it had a Windows 7 COA stuck to it. Fast forward to today, I would like to put Windows 7 on the computer. Trying to understand what, if any, rights I have to use the license key.

It's an unusual situation and I can't seem to find a straight answer. Don't know that I will, but thought to put it out there to see if anyone had any thoughts/ideas.

Thanks.

A:Refurbished Dell with Windows 7 COA but no software.

A Windows 7 COA gives you the activation key for exactly the copy of Windows 7 as specified on the sticker.

Many thanks in advance for the help. I've been an idle reader for a long time, but just registered because I couldn't quite find help specific to my current issue.

I've just bought a Dell Latitute 6430 refurbished off Amazon -- this one in particular. The "Benny Bookman" review is from me and repeats some of the info I'll be detailing here. If anything in that review is erroneous I'll update.

I feel like the issue is complicated, but it breaks down to two primary issues:

1. I'm not 100% sure that the Windows included on the machine is legit in terms of being for a refurb. I tried to google for details and have bought quite a few refurbs before. The issue here is that there is only one Product ID label on the machine and it's labeled Dell, not "Refurbished". I've never seen this before. But Windows activated on my second attempt without any call to Microsoft, so that was comforting. What's the likelihood that this will be a problem down the road? I've run the MGADT tool and included its results below, but don't know what I'm looking at there.

When I initially booted, I got the "choose your language ... this is permanent" choice with English/Spanish and a 3rd language (maybe French). It seemed legit. But it wouldn't activate at first. I emailed the seller and they asked me double check that I typed it right and then it worked. I'm 99% sure I typed it right the first time, but in the meantime I made some BIOS changes -- in particular t... Read more

I have been looking at the Dell Refurbished systems and have a few questions:
Has anyone purchased one?
Did you have any trouble with it?
Does it come with a mouse and keyboard?
I assume it is not with a monitor?

Anything else I need to know?

Thanks everyone.

Has anyone ever heard of buying a refurbished PC from an Authorized Microsoft Refurbisher where out of the gate the Windows feature of Games doesn't work.  After contacting the Refurbisher was told that refurb OS at 64 bit does not contain Games and that they would send a 32 bit disc for me to do the install of the OS all over again?

I find this unbelievable.  The refurb license for software shouldn't be less of an OS than OEM or retail, should it???

Thanks much.
