I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I would like to have users who tag their blog entries, have the tag appear on my blog. I'm using Movable Type. I believe this is similar to the way Technorati does it. Does anyone know how I can accomplish this?

Thanks

A:Allow other users blog entry tags appear on my blog

What I may just need now is a way to have a server listen for pings (from a blog site that has a tag) and add it to my website. I have a script that may generate and ping the tag entry, but I am not sure how to have the receiving server listen for the request.

Any ideas?

Thanks

my time on the internet is limited. i dont know when my moniter screen will suddenly turn to blackness. i am sorry, but i will have to tell you my semi-long story before a solution can be reached. please do not go.

so one day, im chillin on my comp listening to music on iTunes. then all the sudden, the screen turns black. the green power lights are on, which means there wasnt a power outtage. "what the shits??" the moniter is still turned on because it has that shade of black with all the little pixel thingys in it. I manually turn off my computer with my index finger. I turn it back on and i see the normal Dell screen loading up, followed by the Windows XP loading screen. i think everythings normal as i wait for that login screen. then, all of the sudden, my moniter turns black again. i cuss frequently and see if i can make it into safe mode. i arrive at that Safe mode options menu and pick Boot up in Safe Mode. much to my dismay, safe mode was unreachable.
i then picked up the phone to call the Dell Support. after hearing an entire violin concert, i finally reached a human being. despite the heavy accent of the operator, i was able to comprehend her and we went through a few trouble shooting methods. First, i tried to stick in the Windows XP disc and repair ****, but that failed. Then, my only option was to reformat the computer, and delete 1500 mp3 files. after reformatting, i reinstalled windows XP and all my dell drivers.
i then proceeded to download some w... Read more

Day before yesterday I decided to back everything up and clean up my C: disc (RAID0). Last night C: disk got corrupted and had to be reformatted!

I guess I just made up for a few people not backing up theirs.

P.S. the reinstall went so smooth I thought I was installing XP or something.

Now I gotta sweat karma coming around and biting me for all the miracles I have just experienced.

Maybe the corruption had something to do with the 197 Wow6432node nested folders I deleted the other day. Maybe not, I had a 5 hour session of BioShock a few hours before the crash too. So it was running fine. Hmmm. Whatever, all's well...............

Hey everyone,

I have been having trouble with my network. I recently, (2 days ago), upgraded my cable high speed internet service from 2mbps down and .2 mbps up to 15 mbps down and 2 mbps up. However, even during non peak hours, pretty much all the time, the best download speed I can get is 4-5mbps. My upload speed stays where it should, at 2mbps. It is really only my download speed I am concerned about, because this happens every day all day. When I first upgraded the service, I got 12-13 mbps download speed, so something must have happened between then and now where I cant receive that anymore. My modem is a doscis 2, not 3, so I am not sure if that has anything to do with it. It is an Arris TM602G/15 model. But as I said, I have received close to the full download speeds before, but not anymore.

Any help? Thanks!

A:Not getting speeds I am paying for... Even during NON-peak

Try contacted the service provider again ? They should have technicians to be able to check it for you. Could also be a line problem, did you add anymore lines to your cable lines inside ?

How are you testing it, where ? Did you change any other settings on PC. Windows does all optimizations for you.

Try resetting the modem, unplug it for 15 seconds, then plug back in. Or unplug and reboot PC. Usually a way to reset the modem back to factory state, need to check your service providers website for your model modem to be able to access it's settings. Usually you type in an address in your browser to access it.

Hi guys,

I've recently bought a new computer, and it's an issue I've had with another Windows 7 desktop that I purchased before. Unfortunately, when I fixed it originally, I don't exactly remember how because it was after hours of frustrating trial and error.
Anyways, the issue is that while all volume levels are set for peak output, the green/grey volume bar is only going up about halfway. I have been told to check all settings, check my speakers and reinstall my audio driver; however, none of them have fixed the problem. I have plugged my speakers directly into my iPod and they work fine, and I've tried different music-playing software, and the same issue persists.

If anybody has any ideas on how to fix this problem, it was be appreciated.

I'm looking ofr others that might have the same motherboard and could offer some information. I currently have a M/B from Lucky Star (K7VAT, VIA KT-133 CHIPSET, ATX) with a 700mhz CPU. The manual they have on their website says I can go to a 1.2 mhz Thunderbird (based on their testing at the time of the printing). I am trying to find out if I can get a faster CPU like a 1.4mhz Thunderbird. 1.2 is fine, but if I can spend a few extra bucks for the 1.4, I might as well get that one..I just don't know if the board can handle it. I have written emails to the company on their website, both tech support and sales, but am not getting any answer... I think it's a language barrier thing..who knows...

does anyone else have a board similar to mine that could offer some info?

thanks!

A:Lucky Star M/B... Anyone else have one..?

You would never know the difference between a 1.2 and a 1.4 unless you were running benchmarks, and you could prolly overclock the 1.2 with proper cooling anyway.

Alright, I've been lurking here for a while, and I'm reading all of these threads with people having the "UAC" virus, where every program that could possible destroy the virus or malware gets shut down, and then we all get this annoying little message saying we don't have permission to access the file on the system, blah blah blah. I'm sure you're all familiar with it by now.

Anyway, I can't figure out what to try and do, so I registered and made my own topic. I tried a shotgun approach, after reading other threads with the same issue, going on to use Rootkit Repel or whatever, Dr. Web, and a host of others, I give up. I need someone to guide me through this.

Hijackthis, Spybot, Adaware, they all close. AVG will run, but it does nothing for me.

I'm running XP, dunno what SP, maybe 2? I don't update Windows much.

I guess I'll wait to be told what to run, then what logs to post.

Okay, I will try and get all my problems listed here, and hopefully unconfuse everyone......

Running home PC with Windows XP Home

1 - Occasionally when I try and open a web page, the mouse 'freezes' with what looks like 'barcode' lines behind it.

2 - Occasionally when I try and open a web page, monitor screen goes black, a buzzing sound comes from monitor and there is a loud 'squealing' noise from somewhere, but because I am partially deaf I cannot pinpoint that noise.
Sometimes PC turns off, then re-starts and goes to 'welcome' screen; other times I have to turn PC off at power switch.

3 - When I downloaded Firefox web browser, I got an 'access denied' message - referred to configuration of URL settings.

4 - I have scanned my PC with Avira AntiVirPersonal and all scans have come back clean. This appears to be the only antivirus I have on PC except for Windows Defender. I did try to download another couple of antispyware programs as suggested by your members, but was unable to open them..........

5 - PC has recently come back from technician who cleaned hard drive etc and installed more RAM. Someone suggested I take the back off PC and check that RAM is secure, but I am not confident enough to do that.

6 - I do not understand most technical terms, so please, could I have explanations in plain, everyday, language.....

This PC keeps crashing more times than you see crashes on the freeway. It comes in bursts. With the time between narrowing until it crashes during loading. Not the BSOD type - just flop - like the electrical power stopped.

Sometimes it seems like its overheated as reason (the temps though read normal).
Other more frequent times its just clicking on a folder - crash. Or scaring it by moving or scrolling the mouse too quickly - crash. As if the exertion was to much. Its not windows. I can reformat or grab another HDD & install win7x64 on it and thump - crash. Sometimes the critter will go for a day or three. Then it starts again. When it happened at the height of last summer the Repair shop claimed it was over heating. They were guessing. When I left it there it never crashed.

I have a custom built computer. Below are specs

AMD Duron XP 3200+ (Athlon XP 2.2GHz)
ASRock K7s41 Motherboard
512mb Ram
DVD Dual Layer ReWriter
80 GB Hard Drive
Running Windows XP Home SP2
Norton AntiVirus

I later added a CD-RW and a PEAK ATI Radeon 9800SE 128MB Graphic Card.

The card worked fine on the first day. Later on i notice that the monitor would switch of and i would have no control of the computer. This happened to me many times as i was playing DOOM3. A couple of the times it brought up a message saying something like this:

Your graphics accelerator settings have been reset as they were no longer responding to you commands.

I have had no luck on the peak website.

I just want it fixed because it is really annoying.

Recently the idea of purchasing some more RAM crossed my mind considering how cheap it can be now. After doing some searchin on google, i found mixed feelings towards whether or not you should have more than 1GB of RAM. I also started reading about the Windows Page file. I am running the following system: 3.2GHz P4 with 1GB of RAM. I download alot of torrent files but i am not a hardcore gamer. My question is why does it seem like windows is not using my ram to its full potential. The Peak always shows about 667236, and while i am currently downloading a torrent the page file is at 635MB. Should the page file not only be in use when you need to store more memory than u have RAM? What settings/modifications should I make for optimal performance, and should I get more RAM? I was thinking adding another 512.

At one point i disabled the Page File but Photoshop got mad. Is there anything wrong with disabling the PF, and should u when u have a certain amount of RAM?

Any guidance helpful.

A:Solved: Ram+peak+page File

Windows XP always uses the page file for low priority data regardless of how much physical memory is free. If you still have a lot of physical memory free while you are using as much of it as you ever would, you do not need to upgrade your memory. 1GB of memory is usually more than enough for any normal task. And no, it is not a good idea to disable the page file, as you found out.

With multiple apps open, just like you've done but, you need to hover the mouse over each thumbnail to enable the ture aero peek. A good example is to have several internet explorer tabs open and hover the mouse over each of them.

Hi,

Does anyone know how to contact PEAK? I've tried googling them to no avail and they're not listed on the ATI site either.

I bought the card 2nd hand and when it boots into windows it has artifacts in the shape of pale vertical lines across the screen. Underclocking doesn't seem to remove this either.

I've got a 350W PSU but I've ordered a 400W incase it's a power problem (but surely underclocking would solve that?) and I've also ordered a fan in case it's a heat problem but the artifacts appear even after a cold boot so I'm wondering if the card has been broken.

If anyone has any advice or knows how to contact PEAK that would be most appreciated.

thanks

Tucky

hi

I have had the Windows 7 32-bit RTM for just over a day and find the Aero Peak too slow to display the thumbnail images.

My computer is quick, with 2.2 Core 2 Duo, 3GB RAM, Nvidia Geforce 8600m 256MB DDR3, so clearly my laptop isn't the problem. It takes about 1 second to display the thumbnails, I think that's way too slow.

1. How can I make it display thumbnails quicker? Which speed do you recommend?

2. Will changing the speed increase memory usage of Windows processes?

Thanks,

Mani

I like playing Team Fortress 2 but I only get decent latency (~50 ms) outside peak hours (10 a.m. to 7 p.m.), at these hours my latency goes up to 400 ms. I'm wondering if is this is a problem inherent to dsl infrastructure or is it that my isp is worse than average. In Mexico City there are only about 3 internet service providers, Prodigy Infinitum from the country's telecomunications giant(and a monopoly) Telmex is the one I use.
Of course most of their clients use the internet for sending emails and web browsing so I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't care for providing a decent service for gamers.
How does everyone's isp perform for gaming?

A:High latency at peak hours

Most ISP's have you on a system with a lot of other users in your neighborhood. What you report is typical. You provider will provide you high speed and bandwidth at an increased price, and then this problem will go away.
We have performed a lot of work in Mexico City and certainly found a great number of providers... not just three... have you talked to repair services in your part of the city.
I do know that the costs are extremely high for service and support, compared to the USofA

What are some tools that I need to keep my computer at "peak performance"?
So far, I already have the following:
MalwareBytes Anti-Malware
CCleaner
Smart Defrag
Advanced SystemCare

What else should I get?

A:Keeping my computer at peak performance?

Well, for starters, MWBAM is a Anti-malware/Security tool, not a performance tool. CCleaner and Smart Defrag are good choices for performance, I have never heard about Advanced SystemCare - if it includes a "Registry Cleaner", i'd keep away from it. Registry Cleaners usually do more harm than good.

Always keep an eye on startup programs as well (those can affect performance), and be aware of the limitations of your computer's hardware.

Outside of that, I think your doing fine program wise.
How do you feel the computer is running?

Please post your system specs as well.

I'm sure others will chime in.

Well took the plunge and installed 8.1 against better judgement, because for the first time i hesitated to do so.

True you have small tiles and medium tiles, but for me the medium tiles should be the large one and the medium should be half of wat is now.

i see the small times compared to medium as 1:4.

with the midmouse click i had apps immediatly, being on the desktop or start menu, that is gone. Now i get search instead.

Yes one can get easy to the apps from the start menu, but since one is STILL ALWAYS redirected to the desktop that is no longer possible. When forced to the desktop, need to go to the Start Menu, then one can click on the Arrow to get to the APPS.......MY GOD....really simple...

I mean you do not have that on the desktop.

I really was convinced that it was possible to "disable" the dekstop or not use it, but this seems impossible.

But if it can be done, please tell me what i do wrong.

So right now i fail to see the bonus 8.1 offers, besides opening file explorer which is better.

Right now Decor8 from Stardock is NOT working, but i will reinstall this to see if that helps.
Modernmix works.

Did reinstall it, but no, so mailed Stardock.

I feel MS could have made a better job then what they did now.
Any thoughts to make me change my mind are appreciated.
Jeff

A:Tell me how lucky i am after installing Windows 8.1...

hello again,

i must add, since only today i use IE from the Start Menu, which will replace the Dekstop soon i hope.

What bothers me is: you do not have the Menu Bar, Command Bar, Status Bar.....

So can this be activated or not?

Thanks

Jeff

PS

meanwhile i guess nobody can change my mind that 8.1 is a pain where you do not want it

Hi all

I am still currently on XP.  I hate change!  But I'm having problems with my OS and I think rather than re-install XP, it's finally time for me to jump to 7/10.  Apart from joining the modern era, I also want to make use of more than 4GB RAM....  Anyhow, putting all that aside for the moment...

Up until now I have never had any viruses or internet related problems that I'm aware of with my PC.  I run Panda AV Free, but I do not have any software firewall installed.  Even when XP WAS still supported, I NEVER ran any of the MS updates, so I must be WELL out of date as I built my PC in 2008!  I am on SP3.  I use Chrome as my browser, and I use the internet a lot.

So - have I just been lucky or is there more to it?  From what I've read, the fact that I use XP alone should have me riddled with viruses, etc.  Add to this that I've not run updates since 2008...  and...  well...  So I'd be interested to hear people's thoughts.

Many thanks

Max

A:Still safe, still no viruses on XP - am I just lucky?

You've been lucky but then again 90% of infections is caused by the person behind the keyboard. XP 's security hole is so big you could drive a truck through it. If you plan on keeping XP then update it.

You can also do a registry hack that makes the computer look like a POSready computer. This would give you security updates till 2019. You need to do a google search on this hack. I can't provide the instructions. I have done this on an old XP computer I have without issues but lately XP takes forever to look for updates so I turned off automatic updates and do POSready updates through the Microsoft Update Catalog.

Depending on how much RAM and the CPU you could put a light linux distro on the computer and not worry about malware. It would depend on if you need any mission critical windows programs. If all you do is browse the internet and email then linux would be the way to go.

I'm running a brand new Win7 Machine, IE10, behind a router.  Running Norton Security Suite.  Win Defender is installed but turned off, not sure if it will interfere with Norton or vice-versa.A little over a week ago, I was browsing an adult site and got one of the "FBI Lockdown" warning screens, with a countdown clock.  I didn't spend more than a few seconds looking at it, I knew it was bad news.  It locked my browser, couldn't close anything, but I immediately hit CTRL ALT DEL and "Log Off" on the resulting Win 7 splash screen.  I quickly did a Norton scan and found nothing.  The machine has run fine ever since.

Well, today the same thing happened.  Same "FBI Lockdown" timer screen.  Did the same thing, hit CTRL ALT DEL, and "Log Off".  Machine is again running fine.

My question...did Norton block this virus, resulting in me getting away with this not once, but twice?  I'm not that familiar with the virus other than reading the horror stories on other forums of people actually having their machines locked down.  Did I dodge a bullet, or has this virus set a timer that's going to lock me down at some point in the near future?

Obviously I'm hoping it's the former and not the latter.

With just migrating from XP and not yet knowing much about Win7, IE10, or Norton Internet Security, I don't know if my system and virus protection saved me or I'm sitting here with a ticking time ... Read more
