Preferred Solution: T490 - How to set asset tag in bios? (Windows 10)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I just downloaded and installed a new BIOS Update 1.49 on T490.During the flash it looks like some error occured and a black screen with a line "Self-Healing BIOS backup progressing ...". After that the PC booted and when I checked BIOS, it said it was updated succesfully. But after the update the realtek audio device disappeared from device manager and nothing can be done about it, restarts don't help. No sound comes from speakers anymore. It also screwed up some of the keyboard hotkeys. Mute and Microphone off LED indicators are on 24/7 no matter what. I don't recommend this update unless you want to break your Thinkpad.

Hi all! I had been playing with the BIOS on my ThinkCentre setting up the "asset tag" on Windows 10 using "wflash2.exe". What is the right way to remove the "asset tag"?  The best I can think of is changing it to a blank space (wflash2.exe /tag:" ").  Is it possible removing the asset tag instead of changing it to a single blank space? Thank you!

I have been trying to add our company's asset tag numbers to some of our m73 ThinkCentre desktops.
The Model Number is S0JV00
BIOS Version is Lenovo FCKT80AUS
Operating System is Windows 10

I recently updated the BIOS to the current version it is now, like I was recomended from the "Help us help you" thread.
"A surprising number of problems are solved by updating the BIOS."
However, after the update, the asset tag option is still greyed out.  I have tried using the CFGWIN.exe comand that came with the FCJW80USA download, like Lenovo recommended but I keep getting
Error: "Enumerate Lenovo_BiosSetting failed. Error Code = 0c80041003"

I also tried AFUWINGUI to try and save the BIOS settings, and then edit them to then re-flash with the updated asset information if that was possible but when I try to open the saved bios file, it opens in wordpad and looks like it is encrypted.

Some sort of step by step process would be the most help, naturally.
This has just been such a hassle.  If there are anymore info that could help, I would be happy to add it.

Thank you in advance.

Dell Latitude D610
Service Tag B5ZQ691
Express Service Code 24306944293
cn-ou8082-48643-5BT-2394 Rev A05

I purchased this laptop from ebay. When it arrived and I went to turn it on for the first time, the screen came on saying that there was a password on the primary HDD (Hard Disk #WJ20A124175-595B). Then, after pressing F1 or F2, I managed to open up the bios screen. Only to find out this too needed an Administrative Password in order to change any of the settings!

After exhausting my computer know-how trying to figure it out, I was persuaded by a friend to let them try and get it. When I picked it up a few days later, it was in the exact same state, but somehow the Asset Tag had been changed to "SATAN 666". Now my "so-called" friend said they had no luck on getting past any of the passwords. But if that was true, then how did the Asset Tag get changed?!? (I guess they just assumed that because I am a 28 year old blond female, that stands 5' 9" tall, and weighs 120 lbs, that I would be stupid enough to believe them!)

My first question is it possible to change the Asset Tag while the computer is locked with an Administrative Password. And my second question is can anyone out there figure out a Master Password for my HD & Bios using my service code tag?

Thank you for your time.

And now comes my requirement.<o:p></o:p>
I want to automate this process using power-shell script every time when we get some request to approve one asset i want to write a script so that it will reduce the
manual intervention and also reduce the time to approve the assets.

I don?t know if you have European notebook model but here in Europe this tool is not available for customers and this stuff must be done by authorized service provider.

If you want you can try to contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.

As you can see in other thread last user has posted link to Toshiba US support page.

Hi all-

I work in a company with abouty 55-75 people. I have been charged with coming up with a plan for Asset Tracking through the use of barcode scanning. It is basically just a way for us to be able to get inventory on what we have at our office. Does anyone know of a good bundle (barcode reader, software, printer) that is not really expensive and fairly simple to use? I have been to several different websites but it is hard to get solid information. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!!

A:Asset Tracking

Here's a link to cheap inventory control systems. Most have a 30 day free trial period.
You could download and try them out and select the one that meets your needs. The hardware interface shouldn't cost much, but I would look for the best program to meet your requirements.

Hi all, I've had my T490 for about 3 weeks now, and unfortunately since my refund period expired (and I've been travelling with the laptop more) I've started noticing bad grease marks left on the screen/bezel from the keyboard, trackpoint and palm rests after transporting the laptop in a padded messenger bag. The screen flexes much more than I would expect from a 1k laptop, and would be enough for me to get a refund if I was able. I can deal with how easily the machine picks up fingerprints (though still very annoying), but having to clean the screen 3 or 4 times a day is not feasible. Has anyone else experienced this, or is my unit somehow structurally compromised?

I am reading many reviews which are pushing an undervolted i5 as functionally faster in the t490 than an i7, as the normal cooling system can't keep up w/ the i7.  But I also see that the T490 ships with a single-heatpipe cooling system unless you have the add-on video card (which obviously adds a lot of heat on its own.) I found a thread suggesting the t495 has better cooling--it supposedly gets the two-heatpipe system which is only available on the 490 w/ graphics card.  (See t495 part list at https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-t-series-laptops/thinkpad-... ) I'm a Win10Pro power user (lots of tabs, lots of office apps, some database stuff) w/ no gaming or serious graphics needs.  Would this be a good firt to upgrade my old T510?   I don't need super-heavy graphics (no video card) but I occasionally do some photo editing and such, so the 3700 w/ Radeon 10 seems promising as there seem to be somewhat smallish thread tradeoffs and large graphics gains. I would love to know if the extra heatpipe and lack of a graphics card will let the processor work as it should.

Ok, instead of ordering the T490 with a larger SSD, I decided to save some money by ordering a larger SSD on amazon. Then the tought occured to me whether I can use the existing SSD as well, and move it to the WWAN port, since that's an M2 port as well. According to some other forum threads, the problem is that the WWAN port only accepts PCIe SSDs for some other laptops. Great. The small 128GB SSD is PCIe.So I opened up the laptop (I was going to open it anyway, to install the larger SSD), and I installed the small 2242 one in the WWAN port.It doesn't work. It is not recognized by the system. Why? I have no idea. I'm posting here hoping someone more knowledgeable can shed some light into the matter. Here's an album I made in the process: https://imgur.com/a/vOullkg

I've been disappointed with it so far, and was wondering if anyone else has noticed a serious drop in Lenovo's product quality? I ordered a custom build T490 with the 500nits QHD screen. When it finally arrived it had the following problems:1. Touchpad randomly registers right clicks when left clicking - even with all gesture modes disabled, this still happens. The only solution is to roll back to a very basic microsoft driver, but then two fingered scroll doesn't work. Seems a hardware problem. 2. Small line of dead pixels in the centre of the screen. It looks like a small hair trapped under the glass surface. How did quality control not spot this?3. Overall build quality seems shoddy. The screen isn't even fully sealed at the top, so on one side I can see light from the display leaking out between the cracks. Again, how did this pass quality control? So disappointed after spending 1500 USD and waiting weeks for a custom build thinkpad only to have several problems and expect it to be taken away again.I have premiere support so have opened a ticket, but really I just want to send the thing back.My old T410 is still running like a ta... I am looking for a Asset Tracking Software to track our Desktops and Laptops.

Here's a high level overview of what the software should accomplish.

1. User receives asset and logs on
2. User prompted with indemnity for the asset receives and should acknowledge it before proceeding to windows desktop.
3. A record should be created on the back-end of the system with the users details and the asset details
4. User should not be allowed to logon to multiple assets if already allocated
5. If user resigns, asset goes into stock and when reallocated to new user, same process applies from step 1-4
6. All of the above should integrate with AD
7. Back-end of the system will allow reallocation and administering of the asset.

Obviously, as we go along - more features will be required.

Just want to know if there's an off the shelve software that can do the basics so I can introduce it at my company and the board of directors to approve it if further customization is required.

Situation: Right now an annual IT asset inventory (hardware only- systems, monitors, printers, etc.) is conducted by paper and pencil. That is then compared to last years records to make sure nothing grew legs.

Desired Setup: Bar codes attached to all tracked parts are scanned once a year and then downloaded into a simple application that can be used to compare inventory year to year. Probably would involve a bar-code reader attached to a PDA or other mobile device. Cost should be minimized and only simple analysis is needed.

Any suggestions?

Does anyone have any recommendations on an Asset Management Software. I am looking for something that will allow me to assign workstations and equipment to employees, read bar codes, create custom reports, etc. I don't necessarily need it to auto-discover all items on my network. I am looking to see what others are using out there and if they like it or not.

How big of a network / business are you talking about?

Greetings All Experts;  My T61p finally bit the dust even after repasting the GPU and hard to find a good one after the 08/2008 date. Any way, I was snooping around on fee-bay and noticed alot of the T500 series, W500 series BIOS screens are showing "No Asset Information". Is this cause for concern that the previous owner / lessee fiddled with something ? I read somewhere there may be a procedure to restore this info. I like to have all that info on the setup screen before i purchase one. Any knowlege appreciated. Thank you all in advance. Sincerely, Donald

My company is currently in the market for assett management software. Something to manage hardware as well as software licensing. We would like the product to be able to pickup any devices connected to the network on its own. If not we are willing to put a client on each of our devices. Any products or references would be a big help. Thanks BC!

Looking for a relaively cheap and coplete helpdesk/asset management tool.

I want, hardware, software and peripheral asset management, audit features, KB area, purchasing, help desk, user mgt and reports.

Mouse Tracks from Gritware is lacking on the cosmetic front but seems great. www.gritware.com

Intuit-IT Track It is fancy but isn't as functioal (i think) as Mouse Tracks.

Any advice, has anyone purchased such a thing for their IT dept?
