Enabling add-ons in IE7

Q: Enabling add-ons in IE7

I've upgraded to IE7, but keep getting advised that add-ons & Active X are not enabled. MS screen advice to close and restart IE7 makes no difference.
When I go to tools the manage add-ons button is grayed out and cannot be chosen, so I go to tools, internet options, then programs, the manage add-ons there tells me they are all enabled, but when I open any window in IE it tells me right away that add ons are disabled.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am new to Windows 7 and have version Home Premium. I need to enable IIS and not sure if the blue colored checkbox means. Do I need to install IIS separately and how many of the item under IIS do I need to enable? Coming from XP there was only i choice.

A:Enabling IIS

I'm assuming you're in the "Turn windows features on/off" dialogue?

The coloured square means only some of the sub-items are selected. You may need to expand the Internet Information Services item and make sure the features you need are all ticked, or just tick everything (then the top-level checkbox will change to a tick instead of a solid colour).

I recently formatted my harddrive to install on C:win98 and on D:winXP the problem is after the installation of win98, I had to install my via 4in1 driver that's when it started, after rebooting my machine I couldn't load into window it'll get up to the welcome screen and stay there forever. Uninstalling and reinstalling didn't help at all the only way was to disable DMA mode on all my driver (CD rom included) I tried the oldest via driver and also the newest one but that didn't help. Strangely that on my winXP partition it didn't have any problem at all.

-hey guys whta is the benefit of enabling SSL & TLS in web browsers?

A:Enabling SSL & TLS

It is enabled by default. You might like to check that it is. As far as I know, there's no reason why you should run a browser with it disabled. It is needed for secure communications on secure sites. Perhaps there's no need to go further than that but if you would like to learn more about the protocols, there is plenty to be found. These two pages seem pretty informative:

I was wondering if S.M.A.R.T was enabled for my HDD.
I've checked my BIOS and have seen no options for it. (Not sure what my BIOS type is but I have a COMPAQ Presario C700t and the BIOS version is F.34
I've also tried to access the advanced BIOS (I Googled it and the only thing I've seen was to press Crtl + F1 to access the advanced menu in the BIOS, but nothing happens when I do that.)

I also see a hidden entry in my Task Scheduler under DiskDiagnostic called 'Microsoft-Windows-DiskDiagnosticResolver' and the description says:

"The Microsoft-Windows-DiskDiagnosticResolver warns users about faults reported by hard disks that support the Self Monitoring and Reporting Technology (S.M.A.R.T.) standard. This task is triggered automatically by the Diagnostic Policy Service when a S.M.A.R.T. fault is detected."

I've always had it as Disabled and I enabled it. When rebooting and viewing again, it shows it has not run. If I run it manually, it triggers DFDWiz.exe in system32 but nothing happens.

How do I know/enable S.M.A.R.T.?

as far as i know, s.m.a.r.t. monitoring is enabled/disabled with the bios. if you don't have that option, then you can't enable it. however, there is a free program that you can monitor your hdd's. but, i don't know if it requires that your system has to option to use s.m.a.r.t. monitoring.

I installed it, and it seems to be working all right as far as everything goes.

I recently went to play a game, LineageII. I knew I fell somewhere between the minimum and maximum requirements, so I went to play and it told me that my AGP was deactivated, and to enable it for consistency. When I'd start the game, the screen would go black. I figured I'd better enable my AGP -- however, when I went to do so I realized I had no frickin' clue how to do it. I tried to do it through DirectX, but it's greyed out. When I tried to do it in Bios, my Bios said NOTHING about any AGP but at the same time I haven't an idea what to look for and modify thus I got really confused. I've been trying for two days now to figure something out without ruining my computer Help!

Hi! So I recently acquired a Compaq Presario CQ57 laptop (running Windows 7) from my brother and when I started it up it went into QuickWeb, but I exited out of it because I didn't know what it was, but after researching it to find out what it IS, I decided I wanted to try it out.

Except, I have no idea how to get back into it. When I had turned it on I was in the middle of wiping the keypad off and hit a button and BAM! QuickWeb. The problem is, I have no idea what button I pushed to get it. I've looked it up via Google but it doesn't really help me. It tells me to press the QuickWeb button when the comp is off or in Hibernation mode, but I have no idea what the QuickWeb button is. I even tried going into the... um, area that you get to after pressing F10 repeatedly? Yeah, that place, but there was nothing in there I could find to 'enable' (which the website told me I could do via that part of the system).

It's not like I HAVE to try it out or anything, I'm just curious how to get in and out of it, because I'd like to see what it does, if I'd like it, etc... but I have no idea how to get back into QuickWeb. I hope there is a painless way to do so, if not, it's no big loss.

Thank you! =)

A:enabling hdmi

Boot into Bios and make sure HDMI is enabled. Then, depending on the type of Video card you may have, there should be an Icon for the display in your System Tray next to the clock, either the nVidia Display or ATI Control Center. There you can choose to either enable mirror display or Extend your Desktop across 2 monitors. You can also access it in the Display properties in the Control Panel.

John - I'm not familiar with your motherboard or BIOS, however my first suggestion would be to head over to the ASUS website (http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx) and download updated drivers. There's an update under the Utilities category called "Microsoft KB817900 USB fail to enter S3 patch file for Windows XP." Try that.

I would also make sure that your BIOS is the most recent version.

Let us know if that corrected the issue.

Greetings. I have a AMD FX-60 Dual core CPU.

The machine I have it installed in was running XP SP1a fine. Both cores detected and worked fine.

I have upgraded this machine to XP SP2, and now one of the cores has been disabled.

The BIOS shows both cores.
Task Manager only shows one core graph.
Device Manager only has one CPU (I believe it should have two).
The registry (where I can tell) seems to have info on both cores.
CPU-ID identifies only one core operational.
AMD Power Monitor advises either the BIOS or OS has disabled core.

I cannot find any information about how to get/tell XP to enable the second core.

Performance is driving me batty, and I may just reinstall XP SP1a.

Suggestions I'm open to, but I've googled for a long time on this one.

Hey guys. I had a nasty Vundo/Virtumonde infection on my XP Pro SP2 system. After a week of effort and great help from some security experts I was able to remove it. However, I believe one of the tools I used to clear the infection disabled autoplay. I like having a CD or DVD start playing when I put it in the drive. I've tried enabling autoplay (on CDs only, deliberately disabled it on removable media like flash drives) using TweakUI but it doesn't seem to work. I also checked the registry for the entry that disables autoplay and it isn't present. Any ideas on how to fix this issue?

A:Re-enabling CD autoplay

To change or add the necessary entry in the register, you can try this. But only do this if you're comfortable making changes in your registry. An error in your registry can have disasterous results. I recommend backing up your registry first.

Click on Start > Run, type in regedit to open the registry editor.

Navigate through the following folders.

HKEY_USERS > .DEFAULT > Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Policies > Explorer

In the Explorer folder, double-click the "NoDriveTypeAutoRun" if present and change the value to "91"

If "NoDriveTypeAutoRun" is not present, click "Edit" from the drop down menu, select "New", select "Binary Value".

Type in "NoDriveTypeAutoRun" as the name (without quotes) and press "Enter". Press "Enter" again to access the "Edit Binary Value" interface, enter "91" as the value, click "OK", exit regedit and reboot.

You should be good to go.

I recently rebooted my computer today because of a virus. I re-installed everything i needed but needed some things that were in my card reader/flash drive. So i plugged it in and it doesn't install correctly just like my web cam with a USB. I checked some other forums that popped up on google and they told me to open device manager and USB properties. Then they told me to enable "Write Caching" on all of them. i did as it said. It froze for a while and then i opened up task manager and forced it to close. I then went back to check it and they all had little red X's on them so i clicked properties and saw that i couldn't enable the other folder action that was on it, after i clicked properties. It is not disabled and i have tried disabling and enabling manually and it still doesn't work. I am running on Windows XP SP2.

I would appreciate any help at all, and will give any information needed.
