I have hp 15 r012tx laptop, i did a clean installation of windows 10. My wireless card has been acting up, sometimes it will drop connections and all i have to do is reconnect and it works fine and sometimes it just disappears from the device manager. When this occurs i have to restart the PC a couple of times just to get it working again. Although sometimes it might without a hitch for a few days before it starts acting up again. I have tried installing drivers from all sorts of place but none seem to work including the ones from official HP website specifically for my model.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

It is a trivial (easy) matter and not expensive to replace the wireless card, but your model has the whitelist meaning only a limited group of cards can be installed. Here is the Service manual: Manual See pages 23-24 of the Manual for the list with HP Part numbers.  This is the best of the bunch: Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 802.11 b/g/n 22 WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0 Combination Adapter 670290-001 https://www.amazon.com/Best-topshop-wireless-Wireless-N-Bluetooth-670290-001/dp/B01M0V0G72/ref=sr_1_... See page 50 for "how to". If you are outside the US post back and we can help you find an overseas alternative. Also open it up and be sure you have 2 wireless antenna and not just one. If it is one, post back for more help.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Hello  Recently I am experiencing a very serious problem with my wifi  My OS is Windows 10 16.07 build 14393.447. The windows update happened about a week ago At start the system was freezing after 10 minutes of open wifi and no connection possible to my wifi network even if it was showing up and sending the correct password I have reinstalled the sp71571 drivers for the Ralink RT3290 wireless card with partially solving the total problem. (I have also disabled any firewall during reinstallation Now I don't have system freezes and my wifi can see other networks but not mine (and maybe a few others) which is quite strange My only connection to the internet is through Ethernet cable which is to say the least inconvenient Please advise BRDimitris Natsiopoulos

A:Replace Ralink RT3290 Wi-Fi adapter

Hi: The Ralink RT3290 Wi-Fi adapter is a single band (2.4 GHz only) wifi card. Hint:  Anytime you see a wifi N adapter with a suffix of b/g/n, it is a single band card. Dual band cards have a suffix ending in a/b/g/n or a/g/n. You are correct...HP does not offer any dual band cards for your notebook, and if you try to install one, the BIOS will reject the card, and halt on boot until the unsupported wlan card is removed.

I have found that if I select "Forget" for the network and then add it again using the button on the router for authentication, that it will work until.....   I connect through the wired network.   Then it will not connect again until I forget the network. It seems to be a problem with the settings cache for the network.    If I do the above I get good throughput.   If I don't, I can't connect at all. Hope that helps most of you until there is a better driver.

Hello! I have an HP ENVY 15-j104sl with Ralink RT3290 802.11bgn Wi-Fi Adapter. Although it's a "n" adapter, that should give me connection up to 300 Mbit/s, it has never gone more than 120/130 Mbit/s (when my phone goes up to 300). I've downloaded the latest drivers for my PC, but it seems that nothing has changed. What can I do? Hi: Unfortunately, that is the best you are going to get out of that card (150 MBPS would be the max). Why not replace that card with a nice Intel dual band wireless N or AC card with blueooth? That is what most folks do with the 15t-j000/100 model series notebooks. If you have an AC router or plan on getting one soon, that would be your best choice. Otherwise the Intel dual band 7260 N card will give you 300 MBPS speeds on the 5.0 GHz router band. Here are the models with HP part numbers if you are interested... Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 802.11 ac 2x2 WiFi + BT 4.0                  HP Part #710661-001 Intel Dual Band Wireless-N 7260AN 802.11 a/b/g/n 2x2 WiFi + BT4.0   HP P art # 717381-001

My system worked fine using windows 7. I upgraded to windows 10. During the upgrade I got a warning that the Ralink rt3290 was not compatible with win 10. Following advice on the Internet I obtained the latest driver for the rt3290 from Media Tek version 5.0.57.0.When I boot win 10, my Internet connection works for a few minutes then disconnects and won't reconnect without booting again. I am willing to buy a different network adapter or load a new (improved???) driver but I don't know what different network adapter would work in my Pavilion 500-205t and be compatible with win 10 or where to get a driver that will consistently work for the rt3290. Is this the latest driver? .I tried the latest driver from mediatek too, without much success.  Anybody faced similar issues?

Hi! I installed (as if I have a choice) the anniversary update of Windows and now my wifi isn't working! It connects for a minute and then loses its connection, but still shows "connected." It also shows "limited" connection even if my wifi connection is stable in all my devices. It doesn't recognize wifi spots easily - I still need to turn the wifi on and off again just so it can recognize my connection. And it doesn't connect easily, it keeps on saying "can't connect to this network" and it takes a lot of trial and errors just for it to connect. Before the anniversary update, my laptop already has a hard time connecting to wifi spots that are not tagged as "home" (as compared to other laptops). But now that I've updated, it got worse.  I already tried possible solutions. 1. Changed the IP address of my router (didn't work because it can't even connect with other wifi spots)2. Installed the Mediatek Ralink RT3290 W10 compatible driver, uninstalled and reinstalled again (still didn't work)3. Installed the Realtek driver available at the HP site (still didn't work)4. Can't roll back to my previous version because Windows removed my restore points!

Hello AlexaLaw. Welcome to the HP Forums. I understand the computer is not recognizing your Ralink Bluetooth software, and other unknown devices. I apologize for the delay, but I will assist you the best I can. I will start by providing your computer's Ralink Bluetooth software for Windows 8: Ralink Bluetooth Software Driver for HP Pavilion 15-e068se Notebook PC This is the correct driver for this computer. To install it properly, please follow these instructions: 1. Go into Device Manager. Right-click on the Ralink Bluetooth software under "Other Devices" and select "Uninstall". Please do not restart the computer.2. Download and install the Ralink software I provided above. A restart might be required. Once this is done, please ensure Device Manager is showing the correct Ralink software. To address the remaining unknown devices, I will provide a Microsoft document. Following the Microsoft document will allow you to identify these devices and resolve their issues: How to troubleshoot unknown devices that are listed in Device Manager Please note: This document is intended for Windows XP. However, the steps to resolve the issue bear the same value on many versions of Windows, including Windows 8. I believe your issues will be resolved by trying the suggestions above. Either way, please post your results. Thank you for choosing the HP Forums. Have a great day! Mario

I have a friend who has an HP Pavilion G6 running a 64-bit edition of Windows 8.

He brought the laptop to me telling me he had issues connecting to wifi networks. I did the normal check to see if the PC was detecting the Wifi Adapter itself by going to Device Manager > Network Adapters ..only for me to get there and find out there were no Wifi network adapters, only a "Realtek Ethernet Controller". I checked HP's website for the laptop's model's wifi driver, downloaded and installed it and got a prompt that the driver wasn't installed correctly.

The F12 key that's supposed to turn the wifi adpater on didn't do anything. I decided to do a system restore to the last time my friend told me it was working and yet nothing.

I'm guessing its a hardware related issue and I might have to open up the network adapter compartment of the laptop and place the adapter properly. I'm so confused right now.

A:Help! Ralink Wifi Adapter Won't Work On Hp Pavilion G6

Hi there. The card may be seated improperly, but you may want to try a few things first. Go to Device Manager and check "Show hidden devices" on the "View" tab. If it doesn't show up then it may well have to be reseated or the card went bad. Also, if you open it up, have a can of compressed air to clean the thing out. Being that it's a few years old, it's probably dusty. Make sure it's unplugged from a power source, the battery is removed, and take necessary precautions on static electricity before opening the case. I highly suggest doing a study of this procedure before performing.

Here's another fix you may want to try if the system does recognize the card:

Hello

My HP G-62-452SA notebook has developed a problem with its WiFi adapter since yesterday. No issues till then since I bought it a couple of years back.

The wireless connection started dropping or go into 'limited connectivity' mode. Disabling/enabling the adapter would restore the connectivity but it kept losing immediately after starting the browser (IE or Firefox). Whenever it lost connectivity, the problem was only local to the laptop as other devices in the house could access the internet without any trouble even when this laptop was saying 'No internet access' or 'No network access' or 'Limited connectivity'. There is no issue with the wired connection on this laptop.

Some sites suggested updating the driver which I did from HP's support site. However it was not successful and this caused problem in starting the device "RALINK RT5390 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter" - it gave error code(10) in the status/property box. I tried restoring the system to a previous date which helped making the device visible in device manager but the original issue remained.

At present, the WiFi adapter is not even visible in the device manager and the scan for new hardware is not detecting the WiFi adapter. So the situation is worse than what it was at the start!

My router is TP Link and currently I can access the internet through wired connection. I tried changing the IPV4(TCP/IP) configuration for the WiFi adapter as initially I th... Read more

For Confirmation, I have checked my friend's Laptop and his connection shows 150Mbps. I have checked the Advanced tab for the driver and there is no option to select 40Mhz band.  Can anybody please help me?

Try disabling IP v6 in the advanced properties of the adapter: Click Start, and then click Control Panel. Click Network and Sharing Center. In the View your active networks area, click Local Area Connection  (in your case wireless connection), and then click Properties. On the Networking tab, clear the Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) check box, and then click OK.

Hi fellow HP experts, I own an HP 14-r015tx Notebook PC (Click here to see my laptop) with a Ralink RT3290 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth card running on Windows 10 64-bit. My Wi-Fi was working well, but now it had stopped working after I ran "sfc /scannow" on Command Prompt in Windows Safe Mode. But I know that wasn't the case, because "sfc /scannow" scans Windows for corrupted files and fix them, right? Anyways, now, when I connect to a Wi-Fi network, I got this message:  And as a result, I can't connect to anything. Now I use a USB Wi-Fi adapter and it works for the same network. My driver version is the latest: 5.0.57.0 and it comes from Ralink/MediaTek's website. I have tried using HP's one and MediaTek's one, rolling back the driver to 5.0.48.0 or 5.0.37.0 and reinstalling drivers, removing from DriverStore, removing from Drivers folder in System32, hard-reset, sfc /scannow again, Update drivers online from the Device Manager, and everything you would imagine. I borne no fruit. Another thing is, my Bluetooth device also gone now. It usually works well but now, it's gone and here's my Device Manager view: Oh yeah, my Wi-Fi button on keyboard has its light turned on white all the time, even when Flight mode on or off, Wi-Fi on or off. But previously everything worked just fine. It just won't go orange. Sometimes, yeah it just kinda blinks white-orange-white for couple milliseconds. I tried reinstalling HP Wireless Button Dr...  Hi  @Pocko100, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I read your post and wanted to reach out to help you!  I have read that your HP Pavilion 11-n012na x360 Notebook will not connect to the Wireless. Here is some help from HP. Here is a document on Airplane mode. If Airplane mode is on you cannot use your WiFi or Ethernet, so Airplane mode should off for the Wireless troubleshooting. Sometimes just resetting the router can help. Unplug the router and wait 30 seconds before plugging it back in to make sure it fully resets. Please get back to me how this goes. To show that you like, or are thankful of my post, kindly click the Thumbs up below. If there is anything else I can do to help, please be sure to let me know!  If this, or any of the posts on this thread, has helped you to resolve the issue, please click on Accept as Solution on said post. Thanks.

I have an HP Pavilion Dv7 Serial: 2CE1452LGF Product: A1T85UA Basically my brother in law owns this computer, and he got a virus on it. He came to me to help him. I tried to reload windows on it, but ran into an issue with the wireless driver not installing properly. I tried many times but I cannot get this driver to install. Then we ordered the restore disks from HP and they faliled to restore. I ran all three disks together, and it gives a message after running all three and trying to restore that the restore failed. I then tried to run it with just the operating system disks, and not the third disck with the drivers on it, and it still fails the restore. I want to know if anyone out there knows why this wireless driver keeps failing to install. It starts up and then just abruptly ends with no error message at all. I have turned off the firewall to make sure that was not the issue, and I am running as the administrator as well. I don't much care if the restore failed, because I have a valied copy of windows 7 Pro on the computer now and it is a valid not pirated copy. I just want to know if there is a trick out there that will force the computer to take this wireless driver so I can use the wireless and get rid of the wire connection. Thank you in advance for your help. -Sid

A:Wireless Driver Ralink 802.11 b/g/n WiFi Adapter Failed to I...

LOL! Something is stuck... Let's try going in the back door... Click on the network controller in the device manager. Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver.  Select the "Browse my computer for software method," and browse to the installation folder that was created when you ran the driver. That folder will be listed in C:\SWSetup\sp57538. Make sure the include subfolders box is checked, and hopefully the driver will install that way. If not, try the ralink driver directly from ralink...second grouping listed is what you need. http://www.mediatek.com/_en/07_downloads/01_windows.php

I am using an Hp 2000 Notebook PC, and the wireless adapter that came installed on the computer is a Ralink RT5390 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter.  I have run the driver update tool, and it says that I have the most up to date driver installed.  I have also run the "Diagnose Problem" tool, and it says that there are no problems.  However, the computer constantly looses internet connection.  I assume it has something to do with the wireless adapter, because all of the other wireless devices in the house have no issues. The operating System is Windows 7.  I am somewhat tech savvy and can normally figure out issues by just playing with it for a while, but this one has me dumb founded, and its extremely annoying when you're trying to do something and you just loose connection and have to start all over again. Please help!!!

Hi: I have found that relying on a driver update tool does not always provide accurate info. Below is the link to the latest driver if you don't have v.3.2.12.0 (13 Apr 2012) installed. http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=3688868&swItem=ob-104619-1&mode=3 Paul

It will happen in the middle of usage or sometimes when I restart.

The scenario will be that the internet can't connect and troubleshooting might get it to work for a second but open second attempt the driver will either show there is an error in the manager or will altogether disappear.

Temporary solutions that I've found to this problem include:
-restarting the computer, sometimes multiple times
-uninstalling the error-ed adapter and re installing

But as I said these are temporary and the problem persists either the same day or maybe in a couple days.

I presume the issue is deeper than just the driver but cannot figure it out. Any help would be incredible.

A:Ralink RT5390 WiFi Adapter Continuously Uninstalling

Completely remove the device and all its software and reboot. Then do a SFC /Scannow and scan your system for malware. Check your Windows Logs for the System and Applications to see if you can find anything related to the issue. If everything is good do a reinstall of the device and software per the manufacturer's instructions.

Hi, I am trying to repair a friend's notebook and would appreciate some advice please. The computer randomly loses wifi connection and will not reconnect. It sometimes says it is connected to the wifi network but internet is not available. When this happens there is a small star in the wifi strength meter. This has happened with different routers in different houses. Anyway, I have looked on HP website for updated network adapter drivers and have updated to the recommended version 5.0.45.0 rev D as suggested by the autodetect on the HP website. At the moment the computer seems ok with this driver, however the fault is intermittent so I will wait and see. However, I found another page:  http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=ob_131223_1 (REVISION HISTORY TAB) that shows a later version 5.0.56.0 rev D for the RT3290. This seems to indicate that this driver corrects the problem I am having. However, it does not seem to be listed as for this notebook. So the question is would the 5.0.56.0 driver work on this machine? Many thanks for your help.

Hi all experts out there. Previously, I have posted about my Wi-Fi problem here. I finally just get my laptop to the HP Service Center. They told me that the Wi-Fi card I have (Ralink RT3290) is broken. They want to change it for me but it cost me a lot. So I'm thinking to replace it myself. The problem is, does my laptop (HP 14-r015tx) has BIOS "whitelisting" for Wi-Fi modules? If yes, what cards I can use to replace the current Ralink RT3290 802.11bgn WLAN card? If no, what cards I can use to replace the current Ralink RT3290 802.11bgn and where to buy? Here are some about my PC:HP 14 Notebook PC, 14-r015txIntel Core i5-4210U 3MB L3 Cache2x 4GB DDR3L 1600MHz RAMNVIDIA GeForce 820M 2GB GDDR3Windows 10 Home 64-bit (originally OEM)Ralink RT3290 802.11bgn WLAN + Bluetooth 4.0Realtek Ethernet Thank you kindly.

A:Replacing the Wi-Fi card on HP 14-r015tx from Ralink RT3290

There is no whitelisting but you are tackling a pretty difficult job here. This is the Manual: Service Manual See p. 71. The list of original HP components is there on p. 71. I am concerned that there may only be 1 wireless antenna provided which is going to make it impossible to use any of the really high-end wi-fi cards on the market.  Since your module is both Bluetooth and WiFi I assume you want a card that can do both so your only choice is to get an exact replacement for what you had or get the Realtek. Realtek or Ralink is a choice with no good answer.  Perhaps the best thing to do if you really want to do this on your own is to open it and see if there is one antenna or 2. Once we figure that out we can advise the best module for you to buy. Amazon has them and you can get quick shipping so do not need to leave it apart for long.  Post back for any more help. If you want to just go forward here is the Realtek card.  http://www.amazon.com/Sparepart-RT8723BE-802-11bgn-Bluetooth-753077-005/dp/B016UE4IHA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=... And the Ralink: http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Pavilion-11-N-Series-Wireless-WiFi-Card-690020-005-Tested-/262453868807?h... From the price you can see sellers pretty much give these away since nobody really wants one.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

My niece hasn't had wifi on this HP Pavilion 15-n034ca Notebook Running windows 10 for quite some time. I told her I would look at it and see what's up. What a job this has been. Almost every post points to the Ralink RT3290 card and that it is a piece of junk and HP doesn't seem to want to help it's customers when it's out of warranty. I hoped I could rely on some of you good people who know their stuff to help me out. The canadian price for this adapter on amazon.ca is over $200. which is way out of whack. She would be better off putting that money towards getting a new notebook. Was wondering if I could get a different replacement card that would be compatible with this HP so that all will work well when installed. I will look around to find the driver for it after I purchase one. Thanks in advance for your attention and hopefully your help. Rob
