Icon in Taskbar - Dell Common Settings

Q: Icon in Taskbar - Dell Common Settings

I have a new Dell Inspiron 3847 running Windows 10. An icon has appeared in the taskbar that I can't do anything with except mouseover, which displays "Dell Common Settings". It looks like a white gear on a blue background. Can anyone tell me just what this is? I doesn't seem to be doing anything that I can tell - other than just aggravating me! Appreciate any ideas about it's purpose.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I just removed it by uninstalling the Dell Foundation Services program. I have no idea what it did, but it's gone now.

I want Shareaza.exe removed from this list shown in the attached picture. I uninstalled the program, it was still there. I did a registry search and removed every instance I found for it. It's still there. It's making me crazy that I can't figure this out. ANY help would be tremendous. Thanks in advance!

For some reason FireFox doesnt want me to use my own icon for it in the taskbar. ill change the icon, pin it to the taskbar, click the new icon and itll open up a new firefox default icon on the taskbar so there will be 2.

anyway around this?

A:FireFox Taskbar Icon, Makes Duplicate Taskbar Icon's

Let's fix the duplicate icon first, open Firefox from the pinned icon you have already after the second one opens up unpin the first one and pin the second one that should stop the duplicate icon.

Now the icon go to C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar then right-click on the Firefox shortcut click on properties make sure you're in the Shortcut tab and click on the Change Icon Button. After you open up Firefox again icon will revert back to the default icon because it opens up Firefox.exe you would have to change the icon in the .exe for a permanent change.

Just bought a new Dell Inspiron 3000 (actually a 3847) and reinstalled Win 7 Professional. There is an icon at the far right of the taskbar for "My Dell" (it's a blue circle, outlined in white, with a white wrench inside). Right clicking on it brings up a list of Dell tasks (notification, checkup, backup, system info, support, settings and finally the overall My Dell program) but right clicking again does not bring up a list with properties, etc.

Cannot move or unpin it - cannot tell what it references, etc. Any ideas??

....At least I don't think it is.

I like the idea of viewing a preview in the taskbar by hovering, and then clicking it if I want it to pop up, except it no longer does this. I'm lucky if the preview even lasts .100 of a second before closing, or when it finally does let me preview it, when I click the window I want, it doesn't even come up. Or, if it does, it'll be behind the windows I have open, and not bring it to the front.

Hopefully it's a common issue with an easy fix, but as I say it's only just started happening after about 5 days of use, and I didn't even mess around w/any controls or settings.

Hey all, my girlfriend is running Win 7 Home... she has always had the default Windows speaker "volume" icon down on her task bar by her clock. She uses it all the time to switch between her speakers and her headset, where she right clicks on the icon and selects "playback devices" and then changes between her soundcard/speakers and her usb headset.

Anyway, it disappeared last night.

Now open Taskbar, click on the "customize" link, get the window to select which icons appear... on the speaker "volume" icon under behaviors, it is set to "show icon and notifications"...

HOWEVER.

Then at the bottom click the link for "turn system icons on or off" and on that window, the icon is greyed out and set to OFF and it can not be changed to ON.

She's been bugging the heck out of me ever since to fix it.

We have no idea what changed it, or how it got changed.... we just know its been there and she's used it, for the past two years, and now its suddenly not there.

Any suggestions?

I need help getting to the bottom of this, not sure why it's happening, or when it started happening, maybe a week ago...

I get a seemingly random icon flash on the taskbar for no more than a few miliseconds, so i checked
event viewer to track down what was happening and the only thing i can find is 2 events in the subcategory
Application that states the source as RestartManager
and the event ID as 10000 and 10001, these both appear every time the icon flashes on the taskbar

I think this issue is also causing fullscreen flash vids to show the taskbar and a loading circle on the cursor... also Battlefield 4 likes to get a black screen then when i alt-tab i'm back to the game without any crashing or any error besides this ominous
black screen

I'm running 8.1 legit

I have created a shortcut icon which takes me directly to my Online Banking Login page.
I would like to place this icon (an image of a padlock taken from windows icon cache) on the taskbar.
My problem is, when I drag the icon to the taskbar a popup asks me if I want to 'Pin to Internet Explorer'...this is the only option given.
If I drop the icon onto the taskbar it changes my 'Padlock' icon to that of Internet Explorer...Clicking on this IE icon still takes me to my Online Banking Login page but I find it confusing having an IE icon.

Does anyone know how I can have my 'Padlock' icon showing on the taskbar.

Thanks

Ok, this just happened recently and I don't know what is causing it. I'll try to give u a brief overview of the situtation I'm in. XP used to be on my D driver (74gigs), it got screwed up (BSOD) at the time, I didn't know as much computers, so I installed XP to my C driver (4 gigs). This has worked pretty fine up until when SP2 was released. I can't install SP2 because XP takes up about 4 gigs by itself. Without SP2 I just have been running some extra firewalls so compensate.

Well about 4 days ago, I noticed whenever I open up my computer it takes like 7 or 8 seconds before the hard drivers appear. Then I went into network connections to look at my internet icon (to check the settings). I opened it up and nothing was there. The only thing there was on the far left it was asking me if I wanted to setup a network ( my internet is working on all the computers). I have ran 2 different spyware scans and found nothing, ran mcaffee scans and nothing. I can't restore my computer because all the restores got deleted when I was trying to free space on my drives.

Where do I go, usually I can solve tech problems but I mean this is beyond weird? What do I do first, if you need more information just ask because I really need some advice.

I've included two screenshots to show my issue: Is there anything else I can do other than a system restore to a previous version? This is my first post on the tech spot....SO HELLO EVERYONE!!!! Like i said, this is my first post and really wasn't excatly sure where to put it. I figured this is a good a spot as any!!! OK at the risk of being called "YOU FOOL"! I'll come right out with it. I was sneakin this chick into my room and it was dark. I had my laptop plugged in across the room, the chick snags my laptop cord with her foot and yanks my laptop. Get up to use my laptop the next day and something's shorted out. I say shorted out because I've done some searching online with the problem i was having (power pack light goes out when plugged into laptop). So i go through the steps on possibly locating the short which was, pull off piece by piece from the laptop, which goes something like this....first cdrw, memory,HD and so on till I'm down to the laptop frame, which still the power up light turns off as soon as its plugged in. So before I go out and buy another mother board W/O CPU and RAM, i want to make sure of a couple things....Is this a common problem with maybe power jack needs to be resoldered or some other easy fix, and if I do buy a motherboard will my CPU work in the same D600 motherboard. What I'm getting at is swapping CPU a routine type thing? Also should I move this post to a heading that has more traffic?

Wish I had a better title, but I wasn't sure how to word this.

Basically what's happening is I have 2 instances of Firefox (different versions and different folder locations) and one of the instances is not opening where it's icon location is.

Example Screenshot:
As you can see. The far left instance does not want to open where it's icon location is.
The far right version always does it.
Even if I unpin the currently working instance (blue/orange icon) to only house 1 firefox instance (grey/black), the grey/black instance will still not open like the blue/orange instance current does (in it's own icon).
Hopefully this isn't confusing for anyone. I searched for a few terms to see if anyone had this problem and nothing came up, maybe I wasn't wording my searches correctly.

Hopefully someone can give some insights.
Thanks.

Hi all.
So here is a interesting problem that gets my head spinning. Connection established trough Checkpoint VPN towards our domain.
IP address and DNS with Gateway provided. Through CMD you can ping with reply to your server using the common network name, (server1T). You can RTSC to your server using the common name. But once you open windows file explorer and go "\\common server
name"(\\server1T), you get your destination unreachable. Then you use the FQDN (\\server1T.domain.net), it works fine.
What has been done:
Checked All SLL, Radius, DNS config and replications, DHCP scopes, LDAP, WPAD, IPCONFIG, and Policy settings. No changes was made. The problem only started about 4 weeks ago, and its random.
Any one perhaps with an idea or who shares my problem.
Kind regards

A:No icon in taskbar

The icons will not show up until you connect. (on a dialup) This is normal. When you disconnect from the internet, the icon disappears also. If you are on a LAN, you can turn these on also, when the LAN is disconnected, a RED X appears in the little TV icon. In other words, on a dialup connection, the icons are supposed to disappear when the connection is lost. Exception to this is on an external modem, then the icon should appear with a RED X through it when disconnected. Do you have an external modem? The LAN icon will always be present when a network card is installed. The LAN and Dialup icons look alike. I hope I understood your problem. If not, please post back with the exact type of connection you are using and as much info about where exactly you are going to reset you icon. Thanks

Hello there,Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)Open the file and it will extract the contents (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop. Please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. This is done by rebooting Windows and pressing F8 at boot/Windows startup, usually right after the beep. Then select Safe Mode from the list. Make sure you choose the option without Networking Support.Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again. Double-click smitfraudfix.cmd.Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files. You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection. The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process, in case we need it later on.The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txtWarning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background. If this does not solve your problem, download and run HijackThis:HijackThis Download SiteOnce it is downloaded, extract the zip file to C:\HJT and navigate to the... Hi,
I have created a VBS file, when i open it in the taskbar i get the standard 'Icon Missing' Type icon in the taskbar, and was wondering how to change it to a custom icon, like the one bellow (from my school)
All help appreciated.

A:Add Taskbar icon to .vbs

Did you try creating an actual shortcut to the .vbs file then right-clicking it and choosing Properties then Change icon? The icon you want to use has to be on the HDD in a Folder, usually in the same Folder as the file, and you'd choose that icon. It's best to save the icon as a .ico file and adhere to the size limit for it, can't be very large. Most icons associated with programs are embedded in their .exe file, maybe in a .dll file.

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone knows the name or anything about this taskbar icon? It's related to WIFi-LAN connections, and it may have to do with the Qualcomm Atheros 5007EG network adapter(MAY). I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section/topic; I'm new here. Thank you so much in advance!

A:Does anyone know the name of this taskbar icon?

Hello Extreme Nova,

It does appear to be a network icon, so my guess would be that it's from an installed network driver or software.

Does it open anything or have any options if you left or right click on it to help ID what it's for?

I have Windows XP on my computer. I have a dictionary icon on my desktop. But I can?t seem to drag that icon to the left side of my taskbar. When I drag it down it springs back up. How could i put it on my taskbar? Thank you very much. murrar.

A:icon on taskbar

Hello Right click on a blank area of the desktop.Select "Arrange Icons By".Do you have a check mark next to "Auto Arrange" ?A check mark next to "Auto Arrange" will cause an icon that is dragged to spring back to where it was when trying to move it from one place to another on the desktop, but it should have no bearing on adding an icon to the Quick Launch bar. Now, regarding trying to drag it to the taskbar...do you mean that you are trying to add that icon to the Quick Launch bar ?When you drag it to the Quick Launch bar, you left click on the icon, continue to hold onto the left click, and drag it.As you hover over the Quick Launch bar, do you see an I bar cursor (shaped like the capital letter I) in that spot on the Quick Launch bar where you intend to drop it ? Are you letting go of the left click of the mouse when you see the I bar cursor ?I don't think a locked taskbar will cause that. I just tried dragging an icon to my Quick Launch bar, and was successful in dragging/dropping it onto the Quick Launch bar. I tried it with/without a check mark next to "Auto Arrange", and with the taskbar locked/unlocked. I am unable to recreate your issue.See if this article helps (has screen shots):How do I add an application to the Windows Quick Launch Bar?http://www.askdavetaylor.com/how_do_i_add_...launch_bar.html

Control Panel > Network Connections to show your Network Connections
Right click on a Network Connection and select Properties
On the General tab
Place a check mark in: Show icon in notification area when connected
