Solved: Microsoft Media Player 11 no audio

Q: Solved: Microsoft Media Player 11 no audio

Media Center & Media Player 11 recently would not play a DVD. Computer locked up in Media Center on insertion of DVD. wmvs, mpgs and audio files played fine, however, a couple of days later a DVD began playing, with no changes made by me, but without sound. This is now the same problem with wmvs, mpg, and all audio files. Picture is fine but with no sound. Tried system restore but there was nothing to restore.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Sorry if this is not a proper question on this forum, but I can't seem to find a forum to resolve this issue.

I recently installed WMP 10 and it works fine on all but one thing. When playing a DVD movie, Ii cannot get any audio. The audio plays fine if I'm using the player to listen to .mp3 files and it seems to work on other file types, just not on DVD shows.

I can't seem to find any method of trouble shooting this on the "help" menu. Can anyone help me with this or give me a URL where there is a proper forum for this question if it is out of context here?

I recently updated Nero 7 and although using Nero Showtime I can play a DVD (that I have burned myself) with audio ok, when I try to play a DVD using Win Media Player 11 there is no audio. Win Media Player plays all other audio including CDs and all files on my computer.

I used Nero uninstalling CleanTool and
then re-installed Nero.

I have tried the things Nero help desk suggested but they haven't worked.

Previously I have always been able to hear the audio when using Windows

You may say it's Windows Media Player that has the problem but it

I don't know what this means or how to fix this so I can watch the file as well as listen. Any help would be much appreciated!

Hello, I've got a problem I hope someone can help me with. I have a computer I'm working on for a friend and it has a crazy issue where if you play an audio CD in Windows Media Player the audio skips. And not randomly either, exactly the same skip. About a skip per second exactly. The audio keeps playing but it cuts out little blips. It does this with every CD inserted.

I've tried playing CDs in other audio playing programs like iTunes and it does the exact same thing.

Everything appears fine in Task Manager, no crazy processing going on.

I've tried completely removing and re-installing audio drivers, old and updated ones.

I'm not sure what else I can do or check. Everything appears fine.

The computer is an HP Presario laptop and it has an onboard connexecant (or however you spell that) audio card.

A:Solved: CD audio in Windows Media Player skipping

You might want to check Device Manager under your cd rom drive's properties and make sure that digital audio is enabled.

You also want to check the DMA status of that IDE channel. DMA should be on.

A:[SOLVED] Windows Media Player - audio but no visual

Hi chewedpup and welcome to TSF !

What happens if you turn the video acceleration off ? Start WMP => tools => options => performances => move the video acceleration slider to the left and see if it helps. If it does you may have forgotten to reinstall your video drivers.

.avil files can contain different types of audio and video streams, it can also be a missing codec. Uninstall any codec pack you have installed and install the k-lite codec pack (standard version with ffdshow).

I have two pcs on a wireless network connected to a cable modem. One pc (Thinkpad) has no problem playing internet radio stations through wmp. The other one (Dell 4100) has problems with streaming audio. It can connect to the radio station fine (or download the audio file in either format) but then it keeps buffering while it's playing. I've tried just about everything I can find to fix it: editing the registry (MSoft tech note,) changing the network settings, changing the buffer rate but nothing seems to work. There is more than enough bandwidth to handle the flow of data, plus my cable company says it's not them (of course.) Any help would be really appreciated!

My father-in-laws computer has a pretty strange problem. We can play CD's and DVD's fine with all programs, mainly Itunes. But once we use Windows Media Player we get no audio at all. We can listen to the audio in WMP while playing the demo songs that it came with but if we use our own DVD's or CD's we get none at all. We get the following error message.

( Media player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program or may not be functioning properly )

I have played most of his DVD's on my vista machine and they work fine. So it is not the medium that is the issue.

I check all audio drivers and they are fine, I added a new set of codecs and nothing changed. Audio works perfect with ITunes and the other music program he has, but just does not work with WMP.
He has Vista home premium 32 bit.

So what may be the problem?.

Greeting Zephead, and Welcome to TSF.

Please try these steps in order....

Right click on the Volume Control in the System Tray [near the clock]..If you don't have the Volume Control icon in the taskbar, do this..
Go Control Panel > Sound and Audio Devices > tick the box 'Place Volume icon in the taskbar' > Apply > OK.
Now: Open Volume Control > Options > Properties > Playback > scroll down and make sure that all of the following are ticked: Volume Control; Wave; SW Synth; Front; CD Player; Line-In; and, 'microphone'. Now click Recording, and tick the following: Stereo Mix; CD Player; Line-In ; Microphone. Now click Playback again > OK.
Back to Options > Advanced > there should now be an 'Advanced button on the Microphone, click it > tick the box ' 1 Mic Boost' Close, and exit out of Volume Control.

Now right click on the System Tray Icon again > Adjust Audio Properties > at the bottom next to Speaker Volume, click Advanced and set the type of speakers you have from the drop down box > OK. Now click on Speaker Volume and make sure that the volume is not turned down >OK.

Now go Voice > Test Hardware, and the Test wizard will run you through a test to see that everything is [hopefully] working, and when your done > OK >OK.

As I said hopefully you should now have sound, but if not post back and we'll scratch our heads again.

I'm at my wits end.

I put together a capable gaming pc about a month ago with a bunch of new components and some cannibalized older components.

I installed all of the drivers from the motherboard cd. I have a radeon x1300 vid card. I'm running windows xp home ed. I've installed about every codec and plugin under the sun. I've troubleshot my load with regard to Windows itself.

I cannot play Windows Media Audio/Video files for the life of me.

I do get audio, but the video is all hyper-colored like looking at scrambled porn.

It doesn't matter if I download the video or watch it in a browser (any browser). It doesn't matter if I open up the DLed video in real player, Windows Media player or Generic DIVX player #458973: it still comes out all scrambled and in crazy moon-man rainbow colors.

I have no problem playing any other type of windows media player file. Quicktime works fine as well.

Please help.

Well standard Window's media files should play without the need for any additional codecs.

I can play cd's or mp3's from winamp, and I get the windows opening music, so I know my sound card is functioning. If I click on an mp3, winplayer 7.1 opens, shows that the song is playing, but no sound. Also, I don't know if this could affect this or not, but I ran the Maxtor diagnostic and it said my HD was failing.

Thanks in advance for your help.

A:Windows media player no audio

It could be possible that when you installed another program (such as
RealPlayer or Winamp) the default associations for sound playback
was changed by one of those programs. For example, Winamp will
try to become the default player for all sound formats unless you
explictly instruct the installer not to do so.

You can check this by opening Windows Media Player, selecting "Tools,"
"Options", and then the "Formats" tab. See if "Windows Media Audio
File", and "Audio File" are checked. If you want the Windows Media
Player to be your default device for audio CDs, check "CD Audio Track"
too. Click on "Apply".

Associated Winamp (v. 5.5) with Audio CD Play and with CDA Play
2. In Media Player (v. 11), DESELECTED Music CD Playback from Tools/Options/File Types

3. With a cda file from a Music CD selected (in the right panel of Windows Explorer), right clicked on the file, clicked on Open With, then on Choose Program. Clicked on Winamp, then on "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file."

Audio CD still opens with Media Player.

Usually this is a function of your sound card's control software and not a player's settings. Do you have a sound control icon in the tray?

If you have the standard Windows volume control in the tray, double-click it. Go to Options, Properties, and you will see a place to enable more volume controls for rear, center, subwoofer, etc.

We all know of it, we all hardly use it in deference to itunes, VLC, and the sorts. But should it remain with us?

I was thinking about this feature that is just sucky. I never use it other than to play media files, and I never use the navigation of it because it's just terrible. It also looks terrible.

Then I wondered about the future of Windows Media Center and the dying Zune Software. What about consolidating media players into a commanding, Windows Media CENTER, center as in, an actual CENTER of media playing and not just one of many media playing programs that is used.

Think of it, all the features of all players come together in one, awesome player. The modern, immersive, metro design of Zune and Zune Marketplace, the DVR feature of WMC and integration with Xbox, and the lightweightness of WMP together. That way, we don't need to have so many players in one OS. And of course, it could get the same codec treatment as VLC or a potential addon codec treatment if the user needs such. It could have better device media management as well.

Also, if Microsoft could without apple suing them, they could pull a middle finger on them and have ipods and iphones being able to sync up and be able to be managed without itunes. Windows Media Center could also have access to the current Zune Marketplace and have the same subscription service applied to iDevices and Windows Phones and other digital players. One awesome, media player.

What do you guys think?

A:Should Microsoft kill off Windows Media Player

I personally say yes as I almost never touch it. But as an adjunct to an OS, it should be there I think. I also see most friends use it widely..
