I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi guys, I'm a bit desperate here right now.

I have the same problem that this guy over here. I'm running Windows 10 Home x64, version 1607, build 14393.0.

I had to restore the PC to a previous point because I ****ed up some drivers. Then my AV (Bitdefender Free) started having some issues (they gui didn't display correctly) so I decided to uninstall it and just go with Windows Defender.

The problem is I can't get it to work... I get a notification in the Action Center saying to turn on the virus protection, when I click it, Windows Defender goes green(PC status: protected, Real time protection: on) for a second and then goes yellow again (PC status: Windows Defender is OFF, Real time protection: Handled by another AV program) and I get the notification again. If instead of clicking the notification I click "Turn on" on the Windows Defender gui, Windows opens another window, "Apps & Features" in settings, like asking me to uninstall the other, nonexistent AV.

Now, I've tried a lot of things...
Of course, I have completely uninstalled Bitdefender. I used the official tool provided by them for this. There is nothing in the registry by bitdefender nor any file or folder by that name in my PC.

I have tried every step listed here.

I have tried to install another AV (Avast) and the uninstall it to see if this would "reset" somehow windows defender. (Nope.)

I have tried option #2 here Windows Defender - Turn On or Off in Windows 10 - Wind... Read more

I'm unable to turn on Windows Defender real-time protection. It says "Handled by another AV program". But I have no AV program installed. Earlier I had bit-defender AV but I uninstalled it (Even I used bit-defender uninstaller tool). Still it shows the error. Please suggest me a solution. Is there any kind of tool which detects the AV or removes any left over AV files?
I'm currently on Windows 10 (version 1607) build 14372

Thank you

A:Unable to turn on Windows Defender real time protection

Did you uninstall Bit Defender using their uninstall tool? Chances are there are fragments of the program left over which may be causing this problem. You can find the Bit Defender uninstall tool here, run it & hopefully this weeds out any leftovers.

To be sure everything is removed properly, we also recommend using our dedicated uninstall tool. Download it from this location and then run it on your system:

In Windows 10 v1511, I noticed that if I disable the real-time protection of Windows Defender, when I reboot the system, this protection comes back on automatically. Why?

So, how do I prevent this?

A:Disable the real-time protection of Windows Defender

You can only keep windows Defender off by installing another AV with realtime protection.

Hello bleepingcomputer helpers, I hope you can help me fixing this problem, I've been trying hard with my limited knowledge and google skills to find solution for this, but to no avail...
First of all I noticed that I cannot turn on Avira Real-time protection few weeks ago, and from google, they said It must be because of Virus/Malware/Adware/Spyware (there's several opinion about this).
- And so, I start with full scan using Avira, found a few trojan (quarantined).
- Then I scan using Malwarebytes, also found few malwares, and fixed it(using the software).
- I also use SuperAntiSpyware, and also found few problems, and fixed it(using the software).
But all of it failed to fix the main problem, which is turning on real-time protection. And so I went to bleepingcomputer.com (from google) there was also a previous problem posted http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/482982/cant-enable-avira-realtime/
But the thread doesnt have any solution (because the poster never responded afterwards).
And when I read the "Preparation Guide For Use Before Using Malware Removal Tools and Requesting Help", I also noticed that I can't turn on the Windows Firewall (screenshot included)

I am having trouble with Windows Defender and Update. I am getting error 0x800705b4 for Defender and though I've searched online on how to fix the problem none of them seem to work. Also, my computer won't let me access the update & security portion of my settings. When I click on it the window closes immediately.

A:Can't turn on Windows Defender and cannot open windows update window

RE : I am having trouble with Windows Defender and Update. I am getting error 0x800705b4
That error code usually happens, but not necessarily always because of that, when you have a 3rd party anti-virus program installed, such as Avast, AVG, Norton and McAfee. Those programs mentioned have their own defender and having 2 defenders running in the same computer will create conflicts, not to mention redundancy. Therefore, those programs will shut down Windows Defender.

Please disregard the suggestion posted below. I misunderstood your question.

RE : my computer won't let me access the update & security portion of my settings

If you want to pay, you are much better off with Norton than with Kaspersky. But if you want to go with Defender, you have to uninstall Norton with their uninstaller - else you will be in trouble. https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/...rProfile_en_us

Hi Everyone,

I am not sure which Windows update caused this, but ever since that download, whenever I close a window, the little blue disc keeps turning until the window DOES finally close. (Hope you understand what I'm saying.) This happens after closing EACH window, ALL the time.

Essentially, it takes a few extra secs for the closed window to really close. It's irritating/frustrating because I don't know how to fix it. I've put as much of my comp's info in my profile as I know or could find. Have been working with comps for six or so years. Not a total dummy, help alot of friends , and always reaching to learn more.

Have never seen this problem anywhere or it would be fixed by now, lol Can't STAND the waiting it causes til I can move onto something else.

Any suggestions?? PLEASE???

CompInfo: Vista Ultimate, IE8--See Profile for more.

I thank you for your time.

A:Closing a window causes little blue disc to turn til window finally DOES close

Lets try two steps to see if we can fix the problem
Assuming that you are using IE go to>tools>internet options>advanced>resest and see if that helps.
Second try with clean boot to see if some software is behind the problem

recently I've noticed a lot of viruses, malware, and potential spyware popping up on my computer.
Despite installing MalwareBytes Anti-Malware and having the system run clean, the occasional malicious program pops out of nowhere on the desktop.
There was another case where I encountered a website that only showed a BSOD threat saying "call this number to a qualified technician due to the fact that your computer has been hijacked", am I to take this threat seriously or is it just a phishing attempt?
Here's a little synopsis:
Windows Defender cannot be turned on due to it being turned off, but, when attempting to enable it, the error message "This program is blocked by group policy. For more information, contact your system administrator. (Error Code: 0x800704ec)"
And Anti-virus protection being disabled due to: "This program can't start because libpng.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."
I have no idea where to go from here, since I removed as much as I could as possible, yet some more malware pops up everyday.

I recently had problems with folder view settings that keep resetting to some other setting and the desktop auto-arranging the icons on its own. The culprit is likely Trojan.Zaccess, which was removed by Malwarebytes. I've also made the necessary registry changes or deletions as indicated by what I found online about making the folder view settings remember my customized configurations. The following registry directories were involved in correcting the situation:

The first time happened around Jul 8 and then again today Jul 22. The first time around I was successful in keeping the folder setting intact. The second time around, I needed to do a restore point from Jul 20. However after reboot, McAfee's real time scanning is turned off and keeps switching off after manually turning it on. The Windows Security Alerts is also indicating that my anti-virus software is turned off.

I was told that there may be lingering problems that Malwarebytes was not able to remove. McAfee full scan also didn't find anything else. I have the following DDS log below and attached the attach.txt log from DDS as well as the ark.txt from GMER. He... Read more

I've been using Webroot Anti-virus with Spy Sweeper but am looking to change as viruses have recently crippled my computer.

I am interested in using Avast and malwarebytes. Can they both be used for real time protection or would they conflict with each other (and/or take up too much resources)? I am looking at getting the paid version of malwearebytes for real time protection.

Would running only one of these programs as real time protection sufficiently protect my computer from virusues, malware and spyware or would using only one leave me vulnerable?

Thanks for any insight here.

As for MBAM, I use the free version for on demand scans. Read this:The full version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware includes the ability to schedule updates and provides a real-time malware protection module that stops malicious processes before they can infect your computer. The Protection Module is not intrusive as it utilizes few system resources and should not conflict with other scanners or anti-virus programs. Keep in mind that Malwarebytes does not act as a real-time protection scanner for every file like an anti-virus program so it is intended to be a supplement, not a substitute. Those who purchase the full version receive a license key via email which includes a lifetime of free upgrades and support. For corporate and business customers, annual licenses are required. Also:Choosing a security toolkit with anti-virus, firewall and anti-malware programs is a matter of personal preference, your technical ability and experience, features offered, the amount of resources utilized, how it may affect system performance and what will work best for your system. I've been having small issues with my laptop for a while now, but a few months ago it started getting worst, especially when Windows Defender stopped working. I decided to start using Avast Premium at first, then IOBits 's Advanced System Care, and it worked well for a few weeks before starting to fail again. My laptop never crashed but I'm afraid that it eventually will. Winscomm is no longer spotted when my laptop boots on, and I'm unable to Update Windows, plus defender is still gone.

I'm not really good with computers, and I've tried many hazardous things, to no avail. Is there anything I should do? Is my laptop just filled to the brim with malwares?

I did notice that upon using SysInfo, it said I had no Antivirus, is IOBits not considered an Antivirus?
Thanks in advance

I'm running Windows 7 on a secure domain with many GPOs applied, SEP client is also installed.
When running a scan, either by right-clicking on a file and selecting "scan for viruses" or from within the SEP client window, I get an error message "Symantec Endpoint Protection could not open this dialog".
I've found the GPO rule that's preventing the window from opening, it's User Account Control: Run all administrators in Admin Approval mode. Once this is disabled and the PC is rebooted, the dialog opens fine.
Turning off any function of UAC or even this specific rule can't be done, as it's required to be left as it is..
Any way of allowing the SEP scan window to run without disabling UAC settings?

Which is the best - Paid or not? I currently use AVG 8.0 as anti virus, Sygate as my firewall, and for Spyware: Ad-Aware, Spybot, and Malwarebytes. I'm looking for good real time protection and I wouldn't mind paying as long as it's something that works great. I've heard Spyware terminator has decent RTP, SAS, and malwarebytes. Suggestions? Thanks!

A:Real Time Protection

There are many good paid alternatives out there, however I prefer the freeware option as they do the job just as well.

Is it ok to use 360 total security without Bitdefender and avira in real-time protection? Does the product have a good level of protection using only his engines?

A:360 real-time protection

Yes, as long as you have internet connected (Cloud engines), detection rate are just only a small bit higher with Avira / BD activated. Qihoo's engines are great!

I noticed there are a lot of protection software questions her, but my question, I want to be answered by only the most knowledgable computer users on this site. I don't want any rookie computer people to answer my question. Please only people who know 100% what their talking about help me. I have a windows xp laptop. I want to know who software has the best real-time protection in it. In my security part of control panel, the virus protection is off. I have superantispyware program with a lifetime liscene, but the real-time protection on it does not work with the virus protection on my control panel. I also have adaware AE, and spybot S&D, and hijack this. Dont care if the software you suggest is freeware or shareware, as long as it is very good and works with my windows xp. I'm thinking maybe the new BitDenfender paid version.

how do i get the real time protection to work in mcrosoft antispyware?

A:Real Time Protection

Right click on the tray icon, you should see a line that says "Security Agents Status (Disabled)". If you hold the cursor over that line it should drop down another box that has the line "Enable Real-time Protection", click on it and you should be set.

I have Spyware Blaster loaded and updated on my computer. I have XP Pro with SP2.
I also just installed Spyware Terminator and a few months ago Windows Defender.
Since I already have Spyware Blaster should I have the Real Time Protection enabled on either Spyware Terminator or Windows Defender? Will they interfere with each other?
Thanks a lot.

Last year Microsoft added "Real-time Protection" to Windows Defender.

Have any of the independent labs tested the effectiveness of this added functionality?
