browser won't load my home page

Q: browser won't load my home page

i own a website, i made no changes to my browser, and yet suddenly, my browser (all versions of IE since i tried uninstalling 6.1) refuse to load any pages on my domain. everyone of them gets hung up at 'web site found - waiting for reply'.
i've been through the tools in my browser, and reset everything to absolute lowest settings. there are no restricted sites and no restricted settings (and never were). i uninstalled ver 6.1 and went to an older version, and nothing i try gets the pages loaded. not a single page on my home domain will load, although all other websites load as normal.
i installed netscape just to check, and it loads just fine on it, but won't load with IE.
i've ran norton corporate, browser hijacker, and lavasoft ad-aware 6 and they all say i'm clean.

what on earth is stopping my IE browser from loading the pages on my home domain? i'm at the end of my rope and any help greatly appreciated! i can't do any of the administration on my site because i can't load a single page.

Preferred Solution: browser won't load my home page

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Download Hijack This, run it but do not fix anything yet, save it as a .txt file, copy the Hijack Log and post it.

RANDOM EXECUTION OF 'DEFAULT' BROWSER / OR SENDING CURRENT BROWSER TO 'HOME PAGE'
It's now 2018. I'm using Windows 10 version 1607. This very same issue in the post

https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/519342/default-internet-browser-keeps-opening-randomly/

has been plaguing me for several months.
My 'default' browser is set to Microsoft Edge.
If I am running a non-browser app then the Microsoft Edge (ME) will open randomly to its set startup page. It won't go to a bogus URL ... just the main page as configured in my ME settings.
If, on the other hand, I am working with Firefox or Chrome or Opera, that browser will randomly go to the 'home page' as defined in that browser settings.
Every available malware-detection app already mentioned in previous posts here has been run and no issues detected.
Checking and repairing the integrity of my system using DISM and SFC both do nothing to fix the issue.
I'm almost certain this issue is caused by the Windows 10 OS trying to get out on the internet to do something. Whatever this 'something' is it is unsuccessful and it only gets as far as activating the browser 'home page'.
Has anyone got any suggestions as to how to resolve this issue?
TIA
John

Hi,
I've been having a few problems with my browser redirecting to the google home page. I've just noticed this - so far its only happened when I've tried to access Myspace, which is a site I very rarely use, but it only happens when I'm running OpenVPN. On my plain ISP connection the page loads up OK. Not sure if I have a problem, but this certainly is odd beahviour.

Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks.

I hope this is the right place. I have a client that is running Vista and AOL, Everything works OK using AOL, When I try to open Internet Explorer 8, rather than AOL, the computer just hangs and doesn't load the Home page (in this case Google.com). Clicking on a button in the Links Toolbar sends the browser to the desired site. Then, clicking on the Home icon, the browser goes to Google.

I have uninstalled IE8 with the same results occurring in IE7. I reinstalled IE8 again and ran Spybot S&D, AVG and AdAware. I deleted the stuff those programs found with no success. I then ran HijackThis, but I don't know enough about the items listed to make a decision about what to do. I hope the enclosed HijackThis log will shed some light from someone who can decipher the log file.

Hi everybody,

I have been using my.yahoo.com home page that was provided by my IPS AT&T. All of the sudden I could not get a home page when I clicked on Home button. My home page is www.my.yahoo.com. It works on hubby's PC and doesn't work on mine. It's a customizable page that allows me to put only the stuff I want - calendar, news, apps. etc.
When I clicked on Home I get this error message (please see attached image):

Does anybody use this home page from AT&T and has an idea what happened. I did a System Restore already and it did not help.
Any tip and advice are much appreciated.
P.S. I tries to use ADW Cleaner to remove whatever a problem may be with Yahoo, but ADW freezes my computer, totally unusable. .

Hi all. I'm running a p3 500 Mhz with 128 mb of ram, and a 10 gig enhanced IDE hdd. Recently, I've had to do a clean install of 98se, and all seemed to go smoothly. However, after downloading all the updates from windows update (including ie6 sp1), I have a minor, but confounding problem. When I launch ie6, it will not go to my home page, and clicking refresh does not work. I have to click the home button in order to get there. Also, I have a small stand-alone program called weatherbug, which launches on windows startup, automatically connects, and gives me the weather. Weatherbug still dials up but stops once a connection is made. Any ideas? Btw, i recently got a new modem, as my old one was fried. It is a u.s. robotics 28.8 external. Dont laugh, where I am 28.8 is fast. Thx all.

thomas, welcome.

Please print this out and follow ALL these directions carefully.

Download the latest v1.98.2 version of HijackThis:
http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe
or
http://tools.radiosplace.com/HijackThis.exe

Important: Create a folder on the C: drive called C:\HJT.
You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it HJT.

Move HijackThis.exe into this folder as you do not want the HijackThis backup logs in the Temp folder that should be cleaned out periodically or all over your Desktop.

When you run HijackThis from C:\HJT folder by double clicking on it and have it "Fixed checked" it will create a backup file of modifications to use if restore is necessary.

Post a HijackThis log here in your topic.

I'm running a lan with internet provided through ics. Internet comes through a computer in XP environment. Two other boxes on the lan, both running Vista.

One box, HP Pavillion, can do anything it wants on the 'net. Ditto on the XP. However, the other box, a Compaq Presario, can only bring up low-load pages (i.e. Google and Cuil). Submit a search and results come up. However, click on any of the links and all you get is a "waiting for http:..." scenario that never results in a page loading.

All cables appear to be working fine, connected right, etc. All settings appear to be correct.

I'm sure I'm overlooking the obvious answer here, but have no way of knowing what it might be.

Hopefully someone out there knows the key to corrrection my dilemmma.

On booting up, my Windows XP Home does not load past the "Welcome" page. In other words, it only boots up to my user account icons. When I press any of my user account icons, it then loads the usual "Welcome" page with your personal user icon and doesn't load any further, just sitting on that page. If I do a Control/Alt/Delete, next to the account user icon it says, "loading your personal settings", but nothing loads, it just stays on that "Welcome" page.

This is a problem because I can't get into any of my files/tools/etc to do anything about it. In other words, I appear to be locked out.

I am thinking it may be a virus/worm/etc because my McAfee Security anti-virus is way out of date, but I regularly clean up with Adaware and other windows devices. My 60G hard drive has about 14% free space. I take it I can't even reformat or save any files that I need?

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

A:HELP Please - Browser shuts down when I try to load my banks web page... :(

hello & welcome to TSF ,

you need to post this in the (HiJack Log Help) forum of this site

if you truely do think it is because of an infection you need to follow this link & work thru the steps

http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...oval-help.html

but if you do not think it is an infection do this

do you have a Windows Xp cd, not the restore cd's that come with some systems, the cd will have the Windows logo & 3D hollowgram/image on it

if you do not maybe you can barrow one from a friend/family member/co-worker as long as it is the same version that is on your system

if you have (Windows XP Home Ed. sp2 ) then the cd will have to be that / if you have a cd with (Windows XP Home Ed. )you will have to slipstream (SP2 ) onto a disk that you create

this also applies to (Windows XP Professsional )

http://www.helpwithwindows.com/Windo...p2-bootcd.html

now if you do have the Windows XP cd with sp2 please follow these steps

--------------------------------------------

performing a (sfc) system file checker

It is a scan that checks the core files & dlls of the (os) operating system and replaces them if they are corrupt or missing with the correct original version

start

#1 then select (run) , then press enter
a window will open
#2 type in ( cmd ) then press enter
another window will open
#3 type in ( sfc )then press enter

I am using xp prof. and IE 6. When I open my home page, Yahoo, sometimes I just get a blank page. IF it loads, there is about a 2 minute wait. When that happens, if I go to another page, it will or will not load. If not, it shows the "cannot find page" site. My dsl router connections shows on, but not many or no packets. If I reboot or renew the connection, it might help for once or twice but then this happens again.

Does anyone know why this is happening? Thanks!

Hello everybody.

I can't load any microsoft account login page in any browser on my laptop (running windows 8.1). Whether it is outlook, one drive, microsoft support forums, etc. Each time I try to load the login page I get the following errors:

In firefox: The connection was reset
In IE: This page cannot be displayed
In chrome: This webpage is not available

It was working up until yesterday, then all of sudden in the middle of the afternoon I couldn't access any microsoft login page.

As far as I can tell, these are the only pages that can't load. MSN works fine, any microsoft site works fine (outside of the login part of course). All other sites I have tried work just fine.

However, I can access my email in the Mail app that comes standard in windows 8.1 as well as on my android phone. Furthermore, I don't think that it is an ISP problem as I can easily access those pages on an old desktop computer I have and on my phone. It seems to be an issue with my laptop specifically.

I have tried restarting the computer (multiple times) and clearing the cache and cookies (multiple times).

If I can't fix this, I'm probably going to reinstall windows, but I really would like to save myself all the trouble that comes with that, especially since it's just one page that I can't get to load.

I really need help figuring this out. Any help and input would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to TSF.

We will need to run an External Virus scan.

I notice that you have two anti-virus programs on your machine. That's not a good idea!!
Alike firewalls, anti-virus programs have conflicts co-existing with each other & may produce undesirable results. Please uninstall one of them.

Download and install CleanUp!. Do NOT run it yet.

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu). Set the program up as follows:Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following:Empty Recycle Bins
Delete Cookies
Delete Prefetch files
Cleanup! All Users
Click on the “Temporary Files” and uncheck the box for “Scan drives for file matching” if it’s checked.

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program. Reboot/logoff when prompted.

WARNING - CleanUp! will delete all files and folders contained within Temporary Directories. If you knowingly have items you would like to keep that are stored in these locations; Move Them Now!!!

Establish an internet connection & perform an online scan with Internet Explorer at Kaspersky Online Scanner

Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component. The program will then begin downloading the latest definition files.
Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
Locate the Scan Settings button & configure to: Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:Extended... Read more

I am a user of Firefox and have been for many years, but now that Mozilla have engaged in a version race to infinity and the Google toolbar plus several add-ons and possibly other auxiliary programs do not work, I am considering moving over to Chrome.

I use Windows XP 2002 Home with SP3, AVG2012 and ZA firewall.

I am currently giving Chrome a good trial run, but again the Google toolbar,KeyScrambler and NoScript are not supported. As I use Sandboxie and have no personal finance details on my computer, the loss of these otherwise useful programs does not matter too much. Nothing will get onto my computer and knowing my key strokes is of little value. NoScript ? No great loss regarding security in my case.

Question ?

I find that Chrome takes an age to load the Google Home Page and so do many other users on the web. Much slower than Firefox. Seems to be something to do with loading the Cache, I get a message saying "Waiting for Cache" and a time-out panel saying "Kill or Wait". Timing it results in 60-70 seconds from clicking the desktop icon to being fully loaded. Once loaded, all is OK. Firefox takes 35 seconds. I am finding Chrome with extensions and my selected settings a very attractive alternative to Firefox..

Is there anything that can be done about this ?

A:Chrome slow to load Google Home Page

Just an update.

I have found that adjusting the Chrome settings has made a big improvement.
Wrench>Options>Under the Hood>Privacy. Uncheck item 3 and/or item 2. I am currently running with items 2 & 3 unchecked.
The load time is now 5-10 seconds - it does vary a little, but is mostly 5 seconds. this is without Sandboxie.
With Sandboxie, the load time is 12-20 seconds. Infinitely better than before, so in the absence of another solution, there it stays. I can live with that.

Here is a screen shot :-

While my Windows XP desktop was sitting idle, it developed a bug in IE 6. Any attempt to use it resulted in the "page cannot be displayed" message after it searched for site 206.132.166.27 I noticed my home page had been reset to the Microsoft one. Normally it is www.dellnet.com, so I set it back to that and still got the same result. However, it does work if set to about:blank, and if I enter the dellnet.com address in google, it opens up as it normally should. Any ideas? Thanks

For the last few years, I've had GMail set as my home page in Firefox, and Firefox is set to show the home page when it starts (unless I choose to save the open tabs before closing the browser). But for about a week now, when I start Firefox for the first time after starting up my PC, it tries to connect for about a second before opening the new tab page instead of GMail. Strangely, if I close the browser without loading any pages then open it again, GMail loads.

I tried restoring the home page to the default start page, and the default page loaded every time on startup. This morning, I set my homepage to Google before switching off my PC and heading out for a few hours. I just got back and started everything up, and Google loaded right away.

Thanks in advance for any support you can provide.

A:Firefox won't load home page on startup when it's GMail

I use Firefox (FF) and have the same home page as you (gmail), and I've noticed that behaviour shortly after the stories came out about the POODLE attacks, and I updated to FFv34, 34 is the version where FF disabled SSLv3 by default.

I looked at the SSL settings in about:config and there's too many to try and re-figure their settings for now so I went to TLS and bumped up both my security.tls.version.fallback-limit and security.tls.version.min from 1 to 2 and left the security.tls.version.max at 3. The reason I increased the first two is; As POODLE grew the talk around TLS was that TLS1 was close to being cracked.

I'm going to let the settings run for awhile and see if it helps and I'll post back after a few days or so. In the meantime what I do if gmail doesn't open and I get a blank tab is, go up to the home button on my bookmark bar, click once and gmail opens up.

I installed and used Iolo System Mechanic several months ago. When it updated earlier this week, I noticed my browser home page changed from My MSN.com to MSN.com. I went to Tools>Internet Options and re-entered the My MSN info>Apply. Nothing happened and I still had MSN as the browser. After several other attemps, I uninstalled System Mechanic. The switch back to My MSN was easy and went off without a hitch. I did these actions this morning, restarting several time and all was okay.

When I got home this afternoon, I booted up the computer and the MSN web browser is back. I changed it as stated above and, for now, it's okay. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? I want to keep My MSN as my only browser.

Thanks,

Mike
