monitor detected as standard plug and play when connected with extension cable

Q: monitor detected as standard plug and play when connected with extension cable

Hi guys,

I've been rearranging my workspace, and tried to connect my monitor (viewsonic 19in flat screen) with an extension svga cable. The machine powers on and I get a display, but the optimal viewing resolution (the monitor has a little popup message that says 1440x900) is not available as an option when I go into display settings.
When I look in device manager, the monitor is listed as a generic plug/play device. Do I need to manually install a driver from teh manufacturer? Previously, when just plugging the monitor directly to the machine with no cable the display looked fine, but now it doesn't look as good.

thanks,
bp

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

You'd be better of with a long high quality cable then using an extension.

Yes, install the drivers from the manufactures website. These will help your GPU set the correct resolution.

I hope someone can understand this. My problem..
I use Alcohol 120% and have the remains of a virtual drive left over on my PC, Device Manager recognises it as plug and play bios extension with a configuration problem. Driver details as follows.. Device Instance Id is ROOT\SYSTEM\0003, Hardware Ids is root\a348bus and Service is a348bus. I can't find it to save my life and desperately want to get rid of it as on startup it always recognises new hardware. I have looked in the drivers folders etc. I do have another valid driver/extension for an Alcohol virtual drive though, listed as vax347b by the way. Any help is appreciated.

A:Problematic Plug and Play BIOS Extension...help?

Search the system registry for this a384bus string and delete all the entries.

Hello,

On and off I've been having a problem with my keyboard where it will sometimes decide not to work. My friend suggested that I check to see if the USB port was the problem behind it. So, I went into the Device Manager to take a peek for a faulty USB port, but instead discovered that the "Plug and Play BIOS Extension" had a yellow exclamation mark on it.

When I had a look at the device status on it, it said:
"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)".

I have no idea what to do about this. I'm not a techie person, so I'm really lost.

On a side note, this problem has also occurred with my mouse. And for the previous times that I had to deal with this problem, I just simply plugged the keyboard/mouse into another USB port and it worked fine after that. However, I just want to get this problem resolved, it's starting to worry me.

I would greatly appreciate any help given.

Hi there. Sorry if this sounds like a confusing jumble.

My computer (1.8Athlon AMD, 1gb Ram, windows xp) has recently started playing up. I recently bought a new hard drive, a 180gb Maxtor drive. At first it was working fine running as my secondary hard drive, however, yesterday Windows XP failed to recognise it. It detected it, but insisited that there was no data on it and that it had to be formatted. I think this may be to do with the Plug and Play Bios Extension. At the moment, the only way of entering windows is with this disabled. If it is enabled, windows fails to load, and i am left with a black screen.
Sorry if that was all terribly confusing.
Obviously i would like your help on this matter, however any form of action involving a WindowsXP disk is unavailable to me, as my computer came without such a disk. Thanks!

I can find descriptions of this problem, but I can't find any fix besides formatting and reinstalling Win XP. Can anyone give other suggestions? Thanks.

A:BSOD on boot - Plug and Play detected an error

Remove any USB external drives attached when booting or power them off.

USB devices attached (other than mouse or keyboard) have been known to interfere with XP boot process, as XP recognizes that something is there but cannot account for it because the USB drivers are not yet installed (that's how I think of it).

Same thing can happen with flash drives and card readers, I think.

Once booting is complete, then power the devices on.

Hi, guys! I am not sure what to buy!

I have a Dell 19" monitor. I dunno what kind it is. Flat screen.
But I just bought an ASUS VH238 23-inch.
Now, I want to do the dual-monitor thing, but I want the 23-inch to have a nice long cord... 6 or 8 feet.
Let me know if I'm out of my mind.
I also need the splitter.

Can anyone provide (no Ebay please) links to appropriate cables--both splitter and extender?
Or am I just being a big baby?
I don't want to buy crap, but don't want to spend a lot either.
Help!
And thanks!

A:Split Monitor Cable & Extension

Do you want to see the same thing on both monitors or two separate things? A splitter will only show you the same thing on both screens, including the same resolution. If you want to see two different things on each monitor then you will need a video card that has two outputs.

A 6 or 8 ft cable isn't much of a problem. But the cable type may depend on what video card or integrated graphics you have and what outputs are present, many(most actually) new systems support dual outputs, just check the back of the PC or post the specs/info on your computer.

My MOBO is ASUS P4P800 Deluxe.
I just recently flashed my BIOS to the latest BETA version from the German ASUS FTP site in order to correct my compatibility issues detecting my 300GB Maxtor SATA drive.

All was perfect until I tried to connect my mobile phone via USB and something went wrong and it wouldn't detect properly. The phone does, however, show up under USB devices as MOTOROLA USB MODEM, like it did in the past.

So I don't know what's the problem... and don't know how related this issue is, but then I saw that under 'System Devices' there is 'Plug-N-Play BIOS Extension' listed twice.

First one is fine, second one shows an exclamation mark and under properties it says that there is some corruption in the registry or something.

I don't like exclamation marks anywhere under Device Manager. I hope someone can tell me how to fix this...

Do I look for a driver? And if so, which one and where? Is this 'device' suppose to be listed twice? Maybe I should just try 'removing' it?

Hi, I recent came across another monitor, and I'm trying to use it as a dual display monitor (the kind where you can drag things across both monitors, etc). My graphics card is a Nvidia GeForce GT 240 and it has a VGA port and DVI port. I bought a DVI to AGP plug (DVI male, AGP female) since the other monitor has a AGP male plug. However, when I plug it in it isn't detected, nor is it detected when I plug it into the motherboard AGP port. Both monitors work when I use them with the AGP port on my graphics card. Also, in device manager, if they are both plugged in, they both show up.

Any suggestions?

A:Extra Monitor not being detected, may have something to do with AGP/DVI plug

I think you mean D-Sub, not AGP. AGP is a type of graphics card slot on the motherboard. On the chance that the adapter is bad, try another brand. They are relatively inexpensive.

I have a PIII 700 motherboard with an on-board SIS 630 graphics card.

I updated the drivers for the graphics card recently, and it works just fine, with one exception - when the computer boots up, it doesn not load the driver for the plug and play monitor!

If I check the display properties (via Control Panel), it seems that the monitor cannot be recognised, and consequently the power scheme settings for the monitor do not work and have to be reset.

If I run the 'Add new hardware' applet, it finds the 'Plug and Play Monitor' immediately, and the system returns to normal!

I have been to the monitor manufacturer site (Logix) and can't find any specific drivers for the monitor. That doesn't seem to be the issue. I assume that it's probably tied up with the order in which things are being loaded, but I can't work out how to alter this?

This one has me stumped. Hope someone can help.

When I go to the hardware part it says that everything is working properly.

I don't know what else to say about it so I guess we can just start with that.

Hello all,

I have been having a problem with my monitor setup for ages and am now at the end of my tether...so need some help!

I have a Digimate L-1931W monitor, in plain speak, a 19" Widescreen TFT LCD monitor. The screen had been flickering (losing channels) for a while and I have diagnosed the cable as being the culpret (A VGA D-Sub, 15 pin cable). Change the cable you say...which I have done 3 times. Herein lays the problem.

This is where I show my staggering ignorance. The original cable seems to allow my windows XP machine to locate and install an appropriate driver for the monitor, and my Nvidia adapter has the monitor listed as a "M19W". Using any other VGA cable means that the monitor is listed as a "CRT" monitor in my nvidia control panel, and is impossible to change. Being CRT, it gives me no option to have the relevant widescreen resolution (in this case 1440 x 900), and also annoyingly flickers on and off as if it has a CRT gun! (when changing resolution).

Does anybody have any idea why changing a VGA cable would disable the plug and play driver installation from my monitor? Many thanks for any help.

I recently connected a Gateway VX1130 Diamondtron 22-inch CRT monitor to my IBM computer running Windows XP. The colors on the monitor are way off, even after trying to adjust them using the controls on the monitor itself. There's nothing wrong with the monitor; I got it from my uncle and colors showed up beautifully when he had it on his computer.

I thought downloading the monitor's driver might solve the problem, but every time I try to install it, I get a screen that says something along the lines of it won't install because the computer is using the generic Plug and Play driver instead. How can I get it to recognize the monitor's actual driver instead of the Plug and Play? And more importantly, if I am able to get the official driver to work, will the colors show up more accurately, or would I just be wasting my time?

Hi.... You guys helped me so much with another problem, (birthday present for son)...hoping you can help again. Temporarily, my mom has hooked up her computer in our house, but didn't have a monitor, so used our flat panel from our Dimension 2400. We ended up using HERS (not a flat panel, but a newer dell) and tonight I switched them back. Now our my son's Dell flat panel, which is supposed to be a plug and play PLANAR, will not register. The system is using the default VGA and all the text is too big, doesn't give any other display options but 16 bit. I tried turning the computer off for about a half hour and restarting, then unplugging the monitor, turning the pc on, and plugging the monitor in after the pc was started, hoping to see the "new hardware found" msg, but nothing. Why won't it detect the right settings automatically? (I recently also reloaded the entire system from the original boot cd again, since it was really congested). Help anyone?

Hey there people.

My problem is quite complicated, so bare with me. The problem has lasted quite a few months, me only getting around to trying to do something about it when I had time, seeing as I could just use my laptop for other things I do.

I've been reformatting/reinstalling Windows XP (Either Home or Pro) for quite a while now and have been having trouble with my monitor/video card. I'm not sure which is causing the problem.

So I've been reformatting quite a few times, and after each reformat/reinstall I've tried installing drivers (GeForce 6600 [Both the newest and the oldest versions - have tried both] and nForce 4 series) and after every time I've installed them the Display settings keep showing my monitor as Default, instead of Plug and Play as it use to do about a few months back.

Anyway, the reason this is problematic is that I can't play Battlefield 2 with these settings, and whenever I try to my computer shows an Out of Range message.

I'd really appreciate any help with fixing this problem.

Cheers.
Liam.

A:when connected to lg monitor with hdmi cable i get no sound

The issue here is that HDMI cables, as the name indicates, carry audio signals to the monitor. Therefore if the monitor has no built in speakers then there will be no sound. If you have external speakers you can plug them into the audio out slot on the back of the monitor and the problem will be solved. However, if the screen does have built in speakers you need to go Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Manage Audio Devices and set either your headphone jack or the screen to be the default device. And then you ca pick which device the sound will play from. Either yourlaptop speakers or whateer speakers are plugged into the laptop or the Monitor and whatever speakers are plugged into the monitor

After doing a precautionary search via Google that this was a legitimate update, I proceeded with the installation process. At the time I was using the Firefox browser (although I also use IE 9). At the end of the process I received a prompt at the bottom of the Firefox browser asking me to install the Java Plug-in. I then visited the "Verify Java Version" page which confirmed that I had the recommended version of Java installed (Version 7 Update 25). As Java recommend that users should uninstall older versions of Java from their computer, I ran the Java Uninstall Tool, but that confirmed that there were no older versions of Java on my computer.

I then opened IE9 but when I went to the same web page to verify my Java version I got a pop-up message saying that"Java plug-in 10.25.2 is not installed properly. Java plug-in detected JRE collision." That was followed by a further pop-up saying "Java Plug-in Warning - Applet(s) in this HMTL page requires a version of Java different from the one the browser is currently using. In order to run the applet(s) in this HTML page a new browser session is required. Close all the Netscape browser sessions and start a new browser session to run the HTML page."

I closed IE9 and reopened it but when I visited the Java verify page I received the same error messages.

Trying to start using an external USB 2.0 Hard Drive enclosure unit on my Dell XPS M1710 laptop running VISTA.

Inserted hard drive from an ealier PC, powered it up, pluged it in ot my laptop USB port, powered up my laptop and was expecting to get a messgae that New Hardware was found, readt to install the required drivers (al be it that the supplied disk does not seem to have a Vista driver). Anyhow, my laptop does not seem to notice a new piece of hardware has been added. I tried rebooting and checking all the cables and all seems OK there.

Anyone got any ideas? Haven't had this problem before.

Thanks

Hello:I've been having an issue with my Dell XPS Desktop (Intel Ethernet Connection I219-V Ethernet card).
When I connect this server to my router by an ethernet cable, all other other computers connected (Hardwired or Wifi connected) disconnect themselves from the internet. I get the same response when I connect to the Wireless Wifi as well.
It happens only with this Desktop running Windows 10.
I was told to change the DNS address to the OPENDNS Addresses - I tried and I had no luck. I do not have the Ethernet card or the Desktop in powersave mode. They do not go to sleep when idle.
Can someone please make any suggestions. Any input from your end would be very much appreciated.

Computer off. Un-hooked cable to my monitor. Hooked up VGA extension cord to monitor cable with other end of extension cord hooked up to my big screen projection tv.
Turned on tv and computer. Windows XP logo with working bar graph shows on tv screen. When that finishes and I should be able to log on the only thing that shows on the tv screen is a blank blue screen.
WHY? Thanks.

It is possible that your video card does not support the resolution your TV is set to, or vice-versa.
