Error 0x80070426 @ normal start: network center inaccessible w/no internet

Q: Error 0x80070426 @ normal start: network center inaccessible w/no internet

I have been experiencing the subject-mentioned problem with my laptop since yesterday, along with a few other issues most likely stemming from it. There have already been a few attempts to resolve it, ones I will explain in a bit, but a lot of my searches yield final solutions recommending reinstallation of Windows 7. As that solution is certainly a last resort for me, I decided to seek help on here, especially since my computer has done something unexpected in the past hour. Anyway, to begin with:
Computer specs:
HP Pavilion m6-1045dx (I've had it since August 2012)
Windows edition: Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1
64-bit Operating System
Processor: i5-3210M CPU @ 2.50GHz
Ram: 8.00 GB
Summary of past day, with problems bolded:
My computer was last working properly about 23 hours ago when I was using it to browse the internet and study. Both Chrome [open with about 11 tabs] and Firefox remained open from start to finish of that usage. However, they were mainly in the background as I was studying more and, therefore, switching between folders, Microsoft Word, and Adobe Reader. I would also like to note my internet connection was provided by using my university's campus network. This specific network does require a campus login unlike another campus network, but I still believe it to be a factor in the events to follow. Anyway, before putting my laptop away, I last recall putting it to sleep by pressing the power button. I am a bit worried about this memory as, for some reason, my laptop had started up when I turned it back on (obviously through the start button since pressing the keys didn't wake it from its sleep) a few hours later. It had a full battery, so that couldn't have been the reason for it somehow shutting down. Aside to something sketchy happening while it was asleep, the only other logical explanation could be that I pressed the button a bit too long earlier. But I doubt that as putting it to sleep was my intention, since I wanted to keep my tabs open with their time-sensitive data, and I remember there still being a blinking light signaling the laptop was asleep and not off.
Once it started up, I noticed it was slowly running and none of my startup programs were showing up. I didn't mind that as much as I had also noticed my wireless connection was having trouble connecting. The bars were there in the icon, but the circle over it looked frozen. Eventually, a different icon popped up: this one with something red. I restarted, in case something was wrong, but it was still the same situation. As I was unfamiliar with that icon, I thought that maybe it was because I was in a random spot on campus where the internet wasn't accessible. It would make sense since I was outside, but it would be odd as it's generally accessible everywhere there and, in the past, I've sat feet away with access to the internet. I also thought maybe it was weather related, which would also be odd as that has never been a problem before and certainly not during the nice weather like in that moment. Nonetheless, I ended up going inside, hoping that would fix everything.
My hopes ended up unfulfilled as my laptop's odd behavior persisted inside. Whenever I tried to connect to the internet by clicking on the network icon, nothing would pop up. At least by right clicking, "Troubleshoot Problems" and "Network and Sharing Center" did show up; however, each had their own problems. When clicking "Network and Sharing Center," the window looked like it was just loading slowly, when in fact, it just never loaded. When I would click to troubleshoot the problem, it said it was not possible and the explanation for this was "Error 0x80070426," I think the path was the same as other reports: C:\Windows\diagnostics\system\networking. I even tried to open Chrome up and when it didn't open, I noticed that there were two processes stalling in Task Manager. "Google Updater" was also one of the few processes I saw listed, so I ended it and Chrome finally opened with the tabs I needed, granted that was all useless since I still had no internet. I tried to see if going through Safe Mode with Networking would work, but I still had no luck accessing the internet even then. At that point, while using the computer in its normal mode, I decided to do a System Restore to two days ago. I knew there were a few recent files in my download folder I'd need to move/back up, so I went to my "Downloads" folder. I noticed that a lot of files there were also slowly loading; you could see their names, but several icons (specifically for pdf files) weren't showing up. By the time I'd copied the files, the icons still hadn't shown up, so I went on to performing the System Restore.
The System Restore went by normally, but when I went to access my account, the whole screen was black except for my arrow. I accessed Task Manager and saw that a few programs were definitely running, including explorer.exe. I shut off the computer and started it back up again hoping that would work, but there was still a black screen. I ended up going into a second account to see how that was going, and its desktop was showing up. But back at my account, it was still black. I turned off my computer again, went into safe mode with networking, and the desktop appeared there. That made me hope my desktop was back on my account in normal mode, so after a restart into normal mode, I finally had my desktop back, but it was still experiencing the same problem from earlier with networking.
By this time, I was out of ideas, but because of various reasons, someone working for my school's Tech Support was there to help me. She took my laptop and connected it to the internet by an ethernet cable for the timing being. The icon still showed that there was no connection, both when in normal mode and safe mode. But either after a restart or few clicks, there was internet connection through Safe Mode. Unfortunately, the computer was not letting certain windows in normal mode load in order for her to do changes there, so many things were instead done in safe mode. A lot of the changes were applied to checking the status of certain network & hosting services on my laptop, yet nothing worked. During all of this, she also advised the "real-time protection" on Microsoft Security Essentials should be changed to being on. I agreed but explained how I was confused since it's always on, but it somehow had been off only during this problem.
As no changes to the networking were working, nor the few other attempts I can't recall exactly, Malwarebytes had to be downloaded while in safe mode, and then it was successfully booted in normal mode. After a quick scan, it detected a virus in my downloads folder: mplayer_Setup.exe/PUP.Bundle.Installer.OI. I still don't know where/when that download happened, but it was successfully quarantined and deleted by Malwarebytes. After that restart, everything was back. The internet was able to be connected to wirelessly, startup programs started, and it was running much more smoothly like usual; Microsoft Security Essentials was also on like it normally was. I assumed everything was resolved, but then I got home and tried to use my laptop.
Once again, I was not able to connect to the internet in normal mode [including an inaccessible Network and Sharing center]. I thought maybe the virus was back, but Malwarebytes said my downloads folder was fine. As I had to use the internet urgently, I was thankfully able to go on it through safe mode, in which I also performed a full scan by Malwarebytes. That scan revealed nothing too. I restarted my computer to access it in normal mode, but I still had no ability to connect to anything. At this time, I was already looking for solutions on another computer. One site recommended to turn off your WiFi during these problems, and so I did that. I continued to search, and then all of a sudden, one of my startup programs [finally] popped up. I turned my WiFi back on and the icon was back to a normal wireless icon [instead of an ethernet-related icon, or whatever it's specifically called], one signaling I was not connected to any networks. As that previously mentioned program was Skype, I noticed it signed me on and when clicking on the still disconnected wireless icon, it said I was connected to my normal network. I was less bothered by the state of the wireless icon, so I decided I could go see if I can go on a site on Chrome. Chrome opened up, granted a bit more slowly than usual, but it did not go anywhere when directing it to a site; it just kept appearing like it was loading. With this being the case, I decided to disconnect and reconnect my internet signal. After doing this, the icon changed to its normal icon, Skype signed back on too, but Chrome still was not going anywhere. I was able to access the internet on Firefox, so I decided to restart Chrome, and that worked.
While everything is now working, there's still a certain lagging I've noticed that I know was not there before. I'm also very fearful about what will happen when I next turn off my computer. So while everything is working, could someone help me in making sure I'm not falling for a trap right now or can use the laptop in its working state to find out what's wrong when it doesn't work? I'm not even sure if this will be the process every day: starting up the computer and having to wait around 30 minutes for internet access.
I'd be grateful for any help. Thank you so much ahead of time!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Sites that are inaccessible on the PC will come up on the fone tho!

Okay, so this just happened out of nowhere. Nothing seems to have led up to this -- the system booted and shut down successfully, and no software updates or installs were done during the period of time it was on when it was last working. I've attempted many things, but none seem to work. /ScanOs reports no OS detected, while startup repair said the OS was booted successfully. bcdedit also shows no directories linked to "unknown". CHKDSK reports no bad sectors, so such can be discarded. This happens every time I attempt to boot to Windows 7 (Home Edition, x64). I have a copy of Fedora 17 set to dualboot with it, but it hadn't been booted for over a week before the event. Any suggestions?

I just got this error upon booting and one remedy was to download a tool kit which I do not want to buy, or do a system restore... but from some reason I went on both of my browsers with no problem so why would it recommend that I do a system restore? It also said that the error could be caused by a 'messed' up computer. I barely been using this computer for about 2 weeks, didn't have time to screw it up. Any ideas what causes it and how to get rid of it? Thanks

A:Error 0x80070426

If an error message tried to sell you anything then you may be infected with malware. Download, install, decline trial, Update and run a Full scan with Malwarebytes and SUPERAntiSpyware
to root out any infection.

Next run SFC /SCANNOW Command to check for any damage to System files.

Then run Startup Repair to check over the boot files and booting of the OS.

Continue to establish a Clean Boot, check System Resources, logs, etc from Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 reporting back as you go.

This new thread is for your particular system problems only.

So far, I was only able to find this MS KB on Vista SP1 install failure error 0x80070426 -

See if it helps. SP1 out now for > 1 year - have you had SP1 install problems this entire time or are they more recent?

After my ACER with Windows 7 Home premium 64bit (from Staples) worked fine for about a year I am having trouble with 'not genuine' errors.

Prior to the errors, there were some problems over a couple days near the end of March where I found Avast AV was not running, I switched between a couple of different anti-virus programs, and also switched from a wired connection to a TP-link USB wifi stick that had some driver trouble. One morning (still near the end of March) the computer would not start and kicked into Startup repair which did not find anything. From here I selected to do a system repair and everything has been fine since except for the 'not genuine' errors. I vaguely recall an activation step or a activation popup on a later start up but believe (if I did) that I skipped it. I am now running AVG antivirus and been running Malwarebytes and there have no virus/malware problems.

The 'not genuine' errors now tend to occur once a week, usually after a Windows Update, then seem to go away for a few days (Computer->Properties->Windows Activation show status okay with the product id). A few days later when Windows Update runs then the 'not genuine' errors start again.

Below are TWO MGADiag reports. The first I ran when the most recent error popped up and the second was after I ran CHKDSK C: /R & SFC /SCANNOW (neither showed any issues).

In the event viewer I see plenty of 'The Software Protection service failed to start. 0x80070002 6.1.7601.17514' errors... Read more

You have a number of issues.
1) You have an error message often associated with disk/file corruption
2) Your Software Protection Service is not running
3) you have a Volume Licensed version of Office 2007 installed.

You seem to have already checked for sorruption problems - but you haven't specified what the results of either the CHKDS or the SFC were.
Please do so - and also the results of the following.....
Click on Start
in the Search box, type
and hit the Enter key - accept the UAC prompt if you get one.
Look in the console for the Software Protection service, right-click on it and select Properties.
make sure that the Startup Type is set to Automatic (Delayed Start), and click Apply.

Try starting the service now - do you get an error message? Does it start? does it almost immediately stop again?
Post back with your results, and a new MGADiag report.

If it doesn't start, then please do the following...
Please open an Elevated (Administrator) Command Prompt window and use the following commands....

I just purchased a Surface 2 tablet. I have been anticipating being able to spend some time browsing and playing games. Because it is a Microsoft product I find myself visiting the Microsoft store. I was able to download three games from the store. After
that, and after one or two updates to my tablet, I found that I started receiving a message that said it was unable to download the games, and gave me the error code I listed in the subject heading.
I am extremely dissatisfied with my Microsoft product so far, and I do not find that the errors in the tablet are helping this. What does this error code mean? How can I fix it so that this thing wasn't a total waste of money?

Note: It has updated several times since the error code started coming to me, and nothing has changed as regards this problem.
I'm assuming there is some competency in the company forums; please assist me with clear instructions.

A:Error Code 0x80070426 on Windows 8

This error stands for that The service has not been started.
I recommend you open Services by searching Service in Search charm, and clicking View local services.

Locate to Microsoft Account Sign-in Assistant service, double click to open the service properties.
If the service is running, click the STOP button. Try changing the startup type to
Manual if you've been having issues with it set to Automatic.

These are the instructions I found googling my problem:

1. Type services.msc, and then press Enter.
2. In the list of services locate Software Licensing
3. Right-click it, select Properties
4. Change ?Startup type:? to Automatic, then click OK
5. You may then need to select Software Licensing again then click ?Restart the service?
(from Windows Activation Error, Error Code 0x80070426? - Microsoft Community)

My problem is I can't start the Software Protection. A few minutes later, it just turns itself off. So without starting it, I can't even change the Startup type.

A:Error 0x80070426. Also can't activate Software Protection!

I found a way to change start-up type by editing regedit.

Here's how:
ctrl + r
Double click 'Start' key to change value
Do the same for 'DelayedAutoStart'

Change accordingly:
Automatic (Delayed Start)
DelayedAutostart = 1

Start = 2

DelayedAutostart = 0

Start = 2

DelayedAutostart = 0

Start = 3

DelayedAutostart = 0

Start = 4

Now, my problem is that the service turns itself off automatically, after a few minutes. Someone please chip in.

Initially the network icon and sharing center were correctly indicating network connection status.  After the third windows update session in 4 days it now is constantly stating that I do not have network or internet access.  This is not the case as IE and Firefox, Outlook 07 and Thunderbird all can get online without issues.  Also network commands (ping, tracert, ipconfig) work from the command line and show positive connections and even IP addresses. If anyone has suggestions on what is wrong or better yet can help me solve this please say so.CB

A:Network and Sharing Center falsely reports no network or internet access

No I do not have two network cards - only the on board LAN connector.  This network device works fine without issues in Device Manager (no bangs or red stop icons) and shows that the correct 'signed' driver is present.Right now I have re-installed the card from device manager (right click on network card listed, choose uninstall) then re-scan for new hardware and it is up and running again.  Same driver (latest) installed and the Network Places icon is showing correct information as well as the sharing center.  As soon as the computer enters standby, sleep or hibernate or I have to restart (warm or cold boot) this will change back to 'No Internet Access' in both the icon on the taskbar and in network sharing center.Again this appears to be an issue with Rhine PHY and Windows 7.
Hi CBThis may be associated with a known bug in Windows 7 with the Sleep/Hibernate components.
The bug appears when a hardware/software component fails to re-initialize when the system resumes from Sleep or Hibernation or will not enter the suspend state.
These bugs have only been seen on specific systems that have combinations of certain hardware/software installed. The only way we have to deal with these issues in the RC build is to try and avoid using the Sleep/Hibernate functions as much as possible. If you experience this bug and still need to use the Sleep or Hibernate functions be aware that you could possibly lose any unsaved information in applications. The latest information we have is ... I still have the receipt from purchasing Win7 years ago, it is genuine.

This morning on boot I got a black background and the 'this copy of Windows 7 is not genuine' notice in the bottom right corner. I rebooted twice, same result. I found a thread and did this in an admin CMD window:

and rebooted, came back up with the genuine message flashing for a second then disappearing.

I went to see if Win7 was activated and it wasn't, gave me the 0x80070426 the service has not been started error when I tried to reactivate it.

Hi guys, I recently had a virus which I managed to fully clean. Both Malwarebytes and MSE do not detect anymore threats.
Everything works fine but every time I restart windows it takes a good 3-5 minutes for the 'Network and Sharing Center' icon to "load". Basically it has that circular loading icon hovering over it like it's loading something, and sometimes it has a red cross over it. During this time Firefox won't load and MSE disables real time protection until the network center says I'm connected.
So essentially my windows boot time is now 3-5 mins on an SSD. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

A:Network and Sharing Center Delayed Start

It is quite probable you still have some sort of malware infection. I would recommend you go to the Virus, Spyware, Malware Removal forum, read the first post and follow instructions.

Come back here once you get a clean bill of health if you still have problems.

Hi there,
I have recently purchased the HP Asus EEbook X205 which has windows 10.
When I log in to my Hotmail account, the emails in the inbox are more than a month old.  When I click on "fix this" an error code comes up:  0x80070426.  I have checked the email server settings and tried changing them but it makes
no difference.  I have also checked the Sign-in Assistant in the Local Service settings.
This is becoming very frustrating.  Please can you help?
Kind Regards, Lee

I was wondering if anyone could tell me if this connection will work.

At home I receive internet via cable (always on). Because the internet connection output is on the living room (where the tv is) it is a bit difficult to share the internet with the rest of my wire network – which is located on the opposite side of the house.
I was thinking of setting up the following connection:

Set up a wireless router in the living room. Where my current network is, install a wireless NIC card in a pc. Use on the same pc the onboard NIC card to connect to a HUB and share the connection with the rest of the network.

Will it work??

Thank you in advance for your help

Hi ericjl56.

First of all, scan the system for possible virus infection with the following programs.
Anti-rootkit utility TDSSKiller
Windows Defender Offline
Also, Uninstall iTunes and the camera software, as a test. Uninstall McAfee Family protection too.

Hi , I have this problem and cant connect to internet.

Network Sharing Center : Unknown : Depencies Service or Group failed to start.

The steps I already taken :

Go the start menu and type cmd in the search bar. Right-click on it and choose “run as administrator“.
Now type "netsh winsock reset" without the quotes and hit enter.
Next type, “netsh int ip reset" once again without the quotes and hit enter.
Ignore it if it says that one of the repairs couldn’t be done and now restart the computer.Click to expand...

But its still not fixed. Hopefully someone can help me. Thanks.

A:Solved: Network Sharing Center : Unknown : Depencies Service or Group failed to start

When did this problem start? What were you doing right before you were unable to connect?
What version of Vista are you using (i.e., Home Premium, Basic, etc.)? How do you connect to the internet - dial-up, cable, dsl, etc.?

I have windows 7 home premium 64bit. i recently faced a problem regarding internet connection. I can see my broadband connection and an extra unidentified network connection in the network and sharing center. sometimes both shows Internet and Sometimes both shows no internet access. But the problem is that if both shows internet access still i cant open any webpage or anything which need internet. I cant access the internet. but while surfing the net i see a solution which says that all disable and enable the LAN adapter. it solve my problem for some time, but after that it still persists when restarting my computer. Please help me . i am attaching a screenshot of this

A:multiple networks in network and sharing center but no internet

Alright, I'll see if I can help you out. That screenshot doesn't tell me anything. Do you use a wireless connection or only a lan connection?

what you probably need to do is find the right driver for your computer (lan). You'll need to fill this out: Fill out your system specs (this tool may help you out a great deal). That way I can let you know which one, and further help you out.

If ever you need to download something, try using another computer to download the program onto say a USB stick from the internet, and then load it on the other computer (because you say internet wont work).

Waiting for your response.

Hey all. First time here but having a problem with my XP SP2.

Security center is disabled and when I try to enable it I get an error...

"Could not start the Security Center service on Local Computer
Error 1058: The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated w/ it."

Occasionally I'll get this "Generic Process for win32" error crashing on svchost.exe which seems to turn off a bunch of processes including windows audio, windows management, windows time, etc. I can re-enable the audio and it works fine. Systems runs fine otherwise.

Also, I can't re-enable Windows Firewall/Internet connection sharing...Both, security and this, go to the path of
svchost.exe -knetsvcs. It gives me the same error as above.

Any suggestions?

Also, recently formatted and installed/added a new HD

Hi, I have a laptop with Windows Vista, and I recently had to remove the FBI Moneypak Virus, so I don't know if this might have had anything to do with my not being able to get Security Center to start.

I've looked online for the solutions and tried a couple of things.

I've checked Security Center under Services and couldn't get it started. I get 1068 Error, I check under Properties for Dependencies and it's blank.

I ran a System File check and it was repaired successfully.

I don't know what else to check.

I have a Windows 7 machine that is having an issue with Security Center. It had a small amount of PUP and Trojan Variants, but I took care of them.

However, the Trojans must have ran as Security Center has stopped working out of nowhere.

I get error 1068 when trying to boot WSCVM through the Services tab. Remote Procedure Call (RPC) is running and booted, whereas Windows Management Instrumentation, will not boot or run.

Any ideas on what to do here? Would this REGFix file do the trick?

Hi, net helpmsg 1068 at the prompt returns:-

The dependency service or group failed to start.

The fix in your post is to replace the registry service entry for Wscsvc (security centre) it does not appear that this is needed. We need to look at the dependencies.

I note you say WMI will not start.

We need to see more of your services open a cmd as admin and run the following in red:-

I had trouble updating the MSE definitions a couple of days ago and I tried everything to get it to update, something about no connection. I gave up and uninstalled MSE completely using Revo. From Microsoft's web site, I downloaded and installed the newest version of MSE and the definitions updated just fine. Finally, the action center red flag is gone. However, a couple of days later, an alert comes back. This time, it's notifying me that Windows Security Center Service is turned off. With the Action Center open, I clicked "turn on now" but nothing happens, Security Center remains off.
I go to Run-services.msc and scroll down to Security Center and double click on it. Service status says "stopped". I click start and get the message, "Windows could not start the Security Center Service on local computer. Error 5: Access is denied.
This is all done from an administrator account.
Why wasn't I able to update MSE definitions and why, after a reinstall of a perfectly working MSE, am I now unable to turn on Security Center Services?

Most third party security AV/AS software will disable Windows security software in favor of their own. This is normal. Using more than one anti-virus security program at one time is not recommended. They can interfere with each other giving you gaps in coverage, cause conflicts that lead to system crashes, and tend to slow your system down by using excessive resources. Pick one that you like and stick with it.

I have two computers (both Acer laptops, called A & B, both running Vista Home Premium, service Pack 2) hooked up to a (wireless) network. The problem is that I can access resources (access public files, printer) on computer B from computer A, but not the other way around.

On computer A I can see both A & B in the Network Explorer screen and Discovery Method is listed as WSD for both.

However, on computer B, Discovery Method is listed as NetBIOS for computer A. (Sometimes I actually cannot see neiter A nor B, but they are visible via "View full map" in the Network Center.) If I type \\A on computer B, I get back the message that Windows cannot access \\A. If I "diagnose" the problem, it correctly comes back with the IP address, but nothing more helpful.

I've set the Network Center settings the same, also the Windows Firewall (on, Private network), both run MacAfee SecurityCenter. I've tried to connect directly to the router (so not wireless), but no change.

Anyone out there with an idea ??

Okay. I'm going to start again because I don't think I'm being very clear in my original post.\

I'm trying to network a PC and Mac (with a wireless router). Anyway, I'm following the instructions that someone here gave me:

I'm stuck at Step 5 because it keeps giving me an error message that says "Connection Failed." Then it says, the IP address (of the computer I entered) is already accessible from my Mac, but it's not showing up!! There is no Shared submenu in Finder, so nothing is showing up.
Okay, Step 5, I went to Finder => Go => Connect to Server, entered smb://xxx.xx.xx (the x's are my PC's IP address). When I click "connect," I get this error message:
"CONNECTION FAILED: The server "192.168.x.xxx" is available on your computer. Access volumes and files locally."

If it is available on my computer (the mac), none of the shared files/folders are showing up.

The solution was to increase the IRPStackSize parameter for Lanmanserver through the registry.

The key is

Create a new DWORD called IRPStackSize (if it doesn't already exist). Set it to a decimal value of 18 and increase incrementally by 3 until you can access the share. You will need to restart the "Server" service or restart your PC after every change for it to take effect.

Hi people.
I'll try to be as concise as I can. I have done extensive searching in other threads, the closest ones to our situation are threadid 28861 and 28294.
We are running a TCP/IP network, 2 switches, one NT server for fileserving (mostly) and user authentication on the domain, one Linux box as mailserver and for DHCP authentication. All win98/95 machines on the network have file sharing active at share level, all have names for identification.
I have not tried this on all machines on the network (26 of them). All machines are visible through network neighborhood, but on at least 3 machines (running Win98SE), only 4 of the other computers can be accessed, the same four on each of the 3 machines. This doesn't appear to change from day to day. However on another machine running straight win98, all other computers are accessible without problems. By accessible, I mean I can actually see the drives that are shared on the other computers.
On the 3 machines I mentioned, when I try to look at one of the inaccessible computers, I get the message "\\computername not accessible
The computer or share name could not be found. Make sure you typed it correctly and try again"

Any ideas?

Dear technician,

I face problems reaching my network drive after repeated hibernations. I have a Sony VGN-FZ31Z laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit installed. I have a Buffalo linkstation network drive attached to my home network that is routed by a Sitecom Gigabit router. This has hostname BUFFALO. When I start Windows OS from a clean boot no problems occur. I can reach the network drive via windows explorer by simply opening opening a window by clicking the 'Computer' icon. However, after numerious hibernations, mostoften more than 3, double clicking the network drive, will lock the explorer. The network drive, though, is alive because it can be pinged using the hostname: ping buffalo. It can be reached even by its IP number ( in the windows explorer by typing \\ in the address bar. However, this will finally also end up in a freezing windows explorer window, after repeated tries. When running netstat -a in a command window (cmd), I get lines that state CLOSED_WAIT connections:

for example TCP BUFFALO:microsoft-ds CLOSE_WAIT

When the system is in this state with network problems it becomes unstable as well. Logging out will hang and another hibernation will end up in a system crash.

Would you be so kind as to help me to solve this problem. Thank you in advance.

Best regards,
Jeroen Snel

the next time you bring your laptop out of hibernation before you go to access the network drive go to your Network Locations and repair your internet connection, wether it's the Local Area Connection or a wireless one.

I've just installed ATA center and a lightweight gateway on one DC.  I logged into the ATA console and tried swapping the IP's of the ATA Center and ATA Console.  After saving my changes, there was a message about waiting for the gateways to sync
the new config, along with 2 buttons.  I think the first button was to apply the new config, but it was greyed out.  The second button was "revert".  After a few minutes, the first button never became available, so I tried reloading
the page.  Now I can't get the console to load on either of the 2 IP addresses.
When I try to open either IP in IE, I get "this page cannot be displayed."
How can I get the console back?
Edit: Looks like the ATA Center service is failing to start.  In Event viewer, I see 4 events each time it tries and fails to start, with the most relevant/informative event being HttpEvent ID 15005:
Unable to bind to the underlying transport for 10.x.x.x:443. The IP Listen-Only list may contain a reference to an interface which may not exist on this machine.  The data field contains the error number.
Looks like maybe it's trying to bring up ATA Center on it's original IP, but the console has already taken over that IP.
Any suggestions?

The config of both machines is near identical (Win 10 Pro 64-bit)and both have a single hard drive, divided into two partitions. The system disk (OS/ software) is "C:", the other partition is where all user data is kept "D:"

All of the 'user' folders have been redirected to D: (Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures and Videos). I have shared the entire "D:" on each PC, with full access to everyone. In network settings, everything is enabled (network discovery, file and print sharing), but password protection is off.

The problem is, that even though all folders are visible from each machine, only the Downloads folder is accessible - all of the others give the old "Windows cannot access/you do not have permission..." error when I try and access them.

The problem is the same on each machine - only the "Downloads" folder is accessible...

I even went as far as to try and set the sharing on the individual folders (rather than the entire D: ), but this gave the same error message.

I've attached a few pics, which may help to visualise what's happening

Now all I need is a solution! :-)

Troubled Guy
I am running windows XP pro, i recently changed from dialup to broadband -ADSL. Things worked well for a while until the provider had widespread problems which i took as the reason for not being able to connect to the net, when the provider's system was rectified i still had the problem, i checked with the provider my connection which was fine, and i verified this with local area connection. I got rid of the virus protection and firewalls and still not improvement.
Sometimes on restart i works then after a short period it fails - co nsistently, strangely enough there are times i cant get webpages but i can run yahoo messanger unaffected. I tried a number of restore points that worked for a while but the same problem re emerged. I can see anything in task manager that could be blocking things. There was a trojan picked up but that was dispensed with, no effect on my problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
