Acer Aspire screen problem and only boot to Acer screen

Q: Acer Aspire screen problem and only boot to Acer screen

My Acer Aspire 5612z, Dual-core celeron, 2GB ram, vista home premium 32bit, has two separate problems. Screen is filled with vertical red blue and white vertical stripes, if I tap the screen frame then the picture is ok for 30 mins or so, then goes stripey again. (Poss fault on FL board?).
Second, Laptop boots, 20 seconds, to Acer screen then stops.
Can only switch off power from that point.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Tapping the screen you could have a loose connection from the LCD Panel to the MOBO connector, but you see if you did the screen would dim out. In your case you have the the same issues that tell me that the LCD Panel is faulty. If this unit is still under warranty then have ACER service the unit or take it to ACER dealer who can either send it back to ACER or they can order the panel and replace it for you at no cost, but then it has to be under warranty. If not you'll have to pay the cost of ordering the part, labor to install it. Find out cost prior to signing any agreement.

On your other issue, did you replace or upgrade the battery or memory? If not then remove the battery and plugin the power only. Try this again does it boot the ACER logo and Windows. Can you put your ear down to the keys or palm rest and hear the HDD spinning up?
If not either the HDD is DOA or faulty power module on the MOBO or just bad MOBO. Again same as above if it's under warranty call or take it to ACER factory service dealer.

Make sure if you had a good battery on this laptop that all switches are switched to the lock mode for the battery.

I restarted my computer like normal and for whatever reason the computer is now stuck at the Acer boot screen. I try to press DEL to enter Setup and I even tried pressing F12 to go into the Boot Setup, but for whatever reason the computer does not respond to anything.

To shut it off I have to hold down the power button and eventually it shuts off.

Stuff to know:
- I have a wireless mouse and keyboard being used on that desktop.. Should I perhaps try to plug in a corded mouse and keyboard?
- I'm running on Windows 7 Ultimate.
Thanks

A:Acer Aspire One Screen off center on boot

If the image is off-centre only until Windows starts, it has nothing to do with the third-party driver (since the driver doesn't get loaded until Windows starts). Or have I misunderstood you, is Windows off-centre too when it happens? If it doesn't affect Windows I wouldn't worry about it.

I did a clean factory reset on windows 8 using the acer recovery option.  Everything was fine until I tried to update to windows 10( I had done the free windows 10 earlier on this machine with no problems.).  After windows 10 installed and the system was done updating, the system said it needed to reboot and now it wont boot up.  It is stuck on the acer boot up screen.  I have tried every option in the recovery section that pops up after 2 unsuccessful reloads.  It just hangs on the acer screen. It wont let me boot to safe mode, I cant reset, I cant restore. I don't care about the files on the pc, I just want the pc to be functional again. I have a good restore image on a usb drive, but the only way it works is within windows with the acer recovery option.  When I try to do the restore or repair options, it just says this pc cant be repaired.  I even tried tried the windows 10 installation/recovery media and recovery using a usb drive and I get an error on that.  I have tried everything I can think of.  Right now the laptop is a brick.  Does anyone have any ideas on a way to repair this thing to make it boot up? Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello, I have an Acer Aspire V5-551. I forgot the password to my BIOS, so I disassembled the laptop and removed the CMOS battery for 30 minutes. Then I turned it on and noticed that it no longer boots into Windows, it won't let my go into BIOS  (still asking for the password) and it won't let me choose boot devices or go into recovery mode / factory reset. It's stuck on the "acer explore beyond limits" screen. Can anyone help me?

When i turn it on the power led is on and the network led too if it's connected. The hard drive led only flashes up right at the beginning then nothing. On the screen absoulutely nothing can be seen. (monitor is fine, up and running with an other computer). I've checked memory modules and processor all fine. Fans are working as well. Every USB charges my mobile so i guess that's working too. I'd truly apprechiate any help, suggestion (service would charge more than what is worth). Thank you very much! M

Hello,

I am working on an Acer laptop that boots normally except for the screen going blank after the windows loading logo in Windows 7. It does the same when booting to a Windows install disc. It gets past the initial screen when copying files and then goes blank. When connected to a second monitor, the monitor shows "video out of range". I tried booting to safe mode and vga mode with no luck on both monitors. The system loads into windows desktop as I can hear the Windows sounds and I can power down using the start menu blindly. The display works fine in the system BIOS and during the initial boot from disc or hard drive. I am thinking the internal video card is bad but want to explore other options before giving up.

So far I have:
Tested all hardware
Reset BIOS to defaults
Booted to VGA mode and safe mode
Tried Last Known Good Configuration
Cloned a drive from another machine with a good OS
Tried both the original Windows Vista OS and a new copy of Windows 7 from both CD and hard drive

Please help me get this stubborn laptop to output video normally!

So here is my problem with Acer Aspire 5920G: (also I don't understand much about computers, bear with me)

One night I turn off my laptop like normaly, the next morning I turn it on for a surprise. The screen remained pitch black even though I could clearly hear windows boot up, along with other programs like skype popping up. Pressed a few random keys and thought I should restart. Same thing, no reaction from the screen what so ever, but I can still clearly hear windows starting up.

So I browse the internet and here's what I've tried:

- I removed the battery, held the power button for a while, re-inserted the battery, turn it back on >No help
- I switch my RAM cards with one another > Doesn't work
- Turn it on and point a flashlight at the screen to check the backlight, nada
- I check if the magnet for detecting if the screen is up or down is working, and it is, when I lower my screen it goes to hybernate mode, boots up if I click something
- I plugged in an external monitor (new and functional) and press the switch screen button combo, but its not reacting, the external monitor stays black too

It doesn't flicker or anything, its giving off no signs of life, but I'm puzzled because if the screen died it should clearly work on an external monitor, which it doesn't.

Has anyone encountered a problem like this? Any ideas on how I might fix it myself, and even if I can I'm still wondering about what it might be befo... Read more

I did all my best to follow the instructions. I hope you'll be able to help before I decide to send the laptop to acer. Let me know if more info is needed.

The fact that you were able to boot normally after F2 into the bios menu, F9 to re-set the bios to factory default, then F10 to save this default bios setting, ***strongly*** suggests that the bios was losing it's memory of the specific hard drive that was installed.    Jack E/NJ

Laptop Model: Acer Aspire 4745G
Graphic Card Model: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 512MB
OS: Windows 7 64 bits

Problem:
Laptop starting to turn to blackscreen constantly since last week. At the beginning it still manage to back to normal after restart. But then after few days it turn to black screen during every startup whenever it progress until window start-up animation, I can even still hear the welcome sound although the screen is black. I can still using the laptop through safe mode. After that I google for some related solution and found that it's probably the graphic card (display adapter) problem. So I disable the graphic card (Radeon HD 5470) option under display adapter and it goes perfectly well. But when I enable the graphic card option under display adapter in normal mode, my laptop screen will turns black again (back to previous problem).

I tried to uninstall the graphic card under display adapter and reinstall the graphic card driver (download from Acer Support) but the problem still appears. The graphic card driver after reinstall is appears to be ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5400 series instead of previously ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470.

Is it normal or I download the wrong driver although it's from Acer Support? What should I do to solve this blackscreen problem?

My mother is having problems with her laptop, she said she could shut it down last night so unplugged it and left it over night, and today when she started it up everything was fine apart from a dark screen.

I have been on teamviewer trying to get to the bottom of it. Fn and arrow keys apparently adjust the brightness temporarilly but it just defaults back. I ran some windows check for solutions and it threw up this warning which indicates to me it could be a video card issue.

It also said something about Skype, so I updated that. I ran CCleaner and the SF_diagnostic tool. I have attached the zipped file to this thread. can anyone offer any insight to the possible cause of this because I'm stumped?STU9000.zip

Most desktop monitors, when inactive for periods of time(usually preset in o.s. or altered for individual tastes) saves electricity by powering down the monitor, and let it "sleep", but any programs running on the cpu, continue on, unabated. But with these Acer Aspire All-in-one compters are different, i may be listening to an internet radio station, and even though it's not a computer program running,,after a time of inactivity of my manually working (via my keyboard) or something like that, the screen goes black and it kills the internet connection to the internet radio i am listening to. Yes,,if that happens,,i only have to jiggle or move my mouse to turn the screen back on, but is a real pain to have to continually jar the mouse to keep the radio on. Any ideas on how to avoid this black screen of killing my internet radio, and downloads??or anything going on ,while the screen is active???

Thank you..Tim

You could increase the time before your hard drive turns off. I have one for my wirless adapter with maximum performance down to low. Your lan may be listed if your not wireless. Hi All,

Acer 5570Z. Vista Home Premium. I was doing a Restore last night and I think there was a brief power outage (battery removed, waiting on new one) as the Restore never finished. After three hours I turned the thing off figuring it would go to Recovery in the morning. Not so.

I get the Acer sign on screen.
I can hold F2 and go into setup.
I get the "Microsoft Corporation" start up progress bar, then a blank screen.
I get a mouse cursor that works and the blank screen powers off after 20 minutes as planned in Power Management.
Holding F8 for Safe Mode during start up does not work.

I cannot see the laptop on the network, but Vista does not allow that until someone is logged in. I have tried blind-typing in the password but that does nothing. No disk activity so I am not sure where it is at in the boot process.

I have the instructions for the factory recovery from the PQService partition and the question is, if I use that, will it remove all of the stuff on the computer or will it just refresh Vista?

The laptop appears to be running. When I press the off switch, it does a lot of disk activity for about 40 seconds and then shuts down.

My first guess is a video driver issue, although the mouse is visible and works fine and looks to be at the correct resolution.

I do not want to do the big-axe (PQService) approach yet, as I have not backed up in two days. Yeah, I know, I know, I deserve this. I have a full image from about a week back and a Boot USB, but ... Read more

My Acer Aspire one has Windows 7, is around 4 years old. It does not have a cd drive, and Windows is being prevented from starting..........even in safe mode or "last good configuration" mode on the Advanced Boot Options screen. These choices all end up (after loading windows files completes) at the Windows Error Recovery screen that says "windows failed to start". This is followed by a long pause of black screen, followed by the infamous blue screen with the tiny bird and the green branch over on the right side. It freezes on that screen and stays. At that point, Cntl/Alt/Del won't even work, and the only way to shut down and try restarting is to manually shut it down.
I even bought the repair cds from Acer, along with a remote player, but since the Acer freezes where it does, I can't even load the cd software, so that "fix" cannot be tried either.

I have a Acer aspire one zg5, you know the little mini laptops? Well my problem is that it wont turn on. This is what happened:

Last night i finished my homework, decided to play a game, im not sure if your familiar with the game worms, well i like alot so i decided to try to find a site to download it from.

I found one and downloaded the game, now i have mcafee installed so im feeling pretty confident that nothing bad will happen. And the copy i was downloading was not illegal, it was only a demo since you have to purchase the whole game.

But anyways, it came in a winrar archive, so i extracted the files and clicked on the setup, a notice popped up that said "mcafee has blocked and removed a...trojan something" So i deleted the files cuz i dont want a virus on my pc.

Then i try anothe site, now this one is probably questionable to say the least, i decided to download the application instead of the files seeing as how a second ago mcafee had protected my pc, i felt like nothing would happen.

So i do, and my computer goes to the blue error screen and then shuts off. It restarts and everything looks okay, so i decide to give up on the game and im about to start a scan to remove anything that might have come in with the application and my pc just turns to the blue screen again, and restarts, i cant read what error it is because it only stays there for about 1 second and restarts.

And thats where it is now, i turn it on, it goes to the blue screen, it restarts... Read more

Hi and welcome to TSG.

I am no laptop expert but will try and give you some things to check.

Have you managed to turn the laptop off? Try holding down the power button for up to 10 seconds, this should turn it off.
When you turn it back on do you get anything at all on the screen? Does everything else respond normally, just as if it was booting up (apart from the screen), ie, power light on, hard drive light flashing etc?

If you can't see anything on the screen easily try shining a good torch directly at the screen when you turn it on, and look at it closely, if you can see the normal image by using the torch that would imply that you backlight has failed.

Another possible problem could be the inverter for the screen, these can be changed on most (if not all) laptops. On many it isn't a particularly difficult job (bit fiddly though) but if you are unsure it may be worth getting it checked by a recognised engineer. If you want to try it yourself there are guides on the internet for many makes and models of laptop and I am sure people here will help / guide you through it.

I am leaning toward one of those two because it was left on overnight with the screen locked, this could burn something out, although the screen should turn off when you close the case anyway.

A:Acer Aspire 5535 with Black Screen

Hello, Welcome to TSF.

Turn on laptop, have a flash light ready give it time to get to desktop.

Shine the flashlight into the screen holding it pretty close, moving it around to see if you can see anything in background of screen.

Are you able to see anything?

Hello.
Lately, my laptop LCD display stopped working and any external monitor I try displays a corrupted screen. Also it is worth mentioning that I can only use safe mode as when booting up windows 7 the BSOD is shown and the pc reboots.

I tried disassembling the laptop to check if everything is connected correctly. Sadly, to no avail.

The attached images show the screen when in safe mode and in BIOS.

The laptop model is Acer Aspire 5738z.

Any help would be much appreciated.

You have faulty RAM or a faulty graphics chip. Have you tried removing one stick of RAM and testing with only one installed? Then repeat the same thing using only the other stick in the other slot.

I have an Acer Aspire M5100 and I cleaned it today to get rid of all the dust. However, after leaving it for awhile and turning it back on again, I got no image. Also, when it was working properly I would always get a beep before it started up and now I don't get that beep anymore.

On the screen, it comes up with Acer then 'No Signal.' I got this from Bright House and I have asked them to fix it for me but it's going to take over a month to do it and I would rather have it up and working by that time.

I don't know why it isn't beeping anymore and I don't understand why the image isn't coming up, unless I've touched something I haven't or moved something I haven't.

Thanks!

Firstly, happy new year all

I switched my Acer Aspire 7741g on earlier, got to the desktop screen, the laptop then restarted itself because it had updated, I waited for it to get back to the log in screen, at which point I heard the normal alert to say I was there, but the screen was still black.... I restarted it and unplugged it, left it for a while... Turned it on and again the screen is still not working. I'm on it right now, but have it hooked up to a computer monitor. Everything seems to be working fine, except for that.

I'm not sure if I'm right in saying this, but it also seems quieter... The fans aren't whirring like they normally do. And I'm sure that there is normally a blue ring around the power button that is not there presently.

I'm stumped... Any ideas? I don't want to have to send it off to Knowhow and get one of their crappy laptops while they try and fix it, if there is something I can do/try first.

Thanks v much in advance.

Darren

A:Acer Aspire 7741g screen is not working

There is a device about the size of a five or six inch pencil at the back or bottom of your screen... called an inverter. It supplies the inverted image to the monitor. These have a tendency to burn out after a year or two in that model... they are not expensive... about seven dollars to a licensed tech, or perhaps $25 on eBay.

You have to remove all the screws around the monitor... then you unplug the defective one, and install a new one by plugging it in.

The hard part is removing all the screw covers carefully enough, then keeping track of all the screw sizes and where they go, then installing everything once the new Inverter is in.

The first one takes most folks two hours... after you have done a couple, perhaps 20 to 25 minutes. Of find a friendly tech who knows Acer and where to order the part..

Hi -

Having a problem with my Acer Aspire laptop. When I boot it up all I see is this grey screen:

I recently had it hooked up via HDMI to a TV that was doing the same thing. Any ideas?

A:Acer Aspire laptop - grey screen

If you connect it to an external monitor and get the same problem, then it is more likely driver or graphics card hardware related, probably not an issue with the actual laptop screen. Unfortunately this can make diagnosis harder without physically getting hands on it.

How old is the laptop?
What is the exact model?
