Trouble installing HP Deskjet printer with Zonet print server

Q: Trouble installing HP Deskjet printer with Zonet print server

First, some background. I had this all set up and it was working. I installed 2 other printers and drivers and started having problems with my computer hanging up and other issues with the HP software. I decided to uninstall all of my HP software and drivers and start over.

I have 2 printers--HP Officejet Pro L7580 and an HP Deskjet 9650 that I want connected with the print server.

I downloaded the new drivers for the deskjet 9650. I have the software installed for the print server. I can open that software with my laptop and see the print server. I started installing the printer drivers using a wiresless network, but it couldn't find the printer.

I tired restarting the print server, but still it cannot find the printer. I tried putting in the IP address for the print server, but when I do it says that the HP deskjet 9650 installer has encountered and error, and it closes.

Any suggestions?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi all,

Please pardon if this has already been addressed... I tried to find threads that answered my question, but was not too successful.

I am trying to set up my husband's office so his laptop can print wirelessly to his printer via a print server. Right now, each time he wants to print he attaches the printer via the usb cable. This works ok, but is kind of a pain since the cable has to run across the room. Also, each time he unplugs and plugs, his laptop reinstalls the printer giving him countless copies of the same printer in the printer folder. (Another issue I've never bothered to fix.)

So, I've got the print server (which also happens to be a router) hooked up to the printer, and the laptop (with built-in wireless) detected the router/server and connected to it like a network without any problems. I thought all I'd have to do was go to add printer, detect it through the server, and install it. But though the computer is connected (wirelessely) to the server, it doesn't see the printer.

Was I totally crazy when I thought the print server would allow printing without the printer being connected to a PC? Can you actually just plug a printer into a wireless server and then print from your computer? Or perhaps because this is also a router, it must be attached to a computer?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. If you can explain how to do it, I'm sure I'd be able to do it.

Hello all

I am having trouble connecting my verizon fios, dell 964 printer and my linksys wireless printer server. When I had comcast service it worked with moderate setup help from a computer technician. Now that I have changed to verizon, I can't seem to get it to work. Linksys will set me up with a third party for over $100 who specializes in multi systems... dell, verizion and linksys... and Verizon will do the same for the same amount of money. I have already paid a second compter technician to come in and set it up and he tells me that it can't be done and that verizon knows that there is a problem. I paid him over $170...Needless to say I'm looking to not spend another dime on this issue or I'll switch back to comcast.

You probably need to remove the previous wireless settings from the printer and run the set up program again.

I have a printer, HP Deskjet 930C which used to work great on XP (even without the offical drivers, using XP integrated ones) and now wont install on vista.
When i tryd to look through HP's site, i found out the drivers for this printer should be already integrated in vista. I also downloaded their auto driver tool or something which said exactly the same.

I also tryed to install XP drivers (exe just fails, so i installed manualy the driver in Printers in Control Panel). When i try to install them manualy, windows refuses to do so and claims they are not digitally signed or not signed for vista.

Any suggestions on what i can do?

Hello Guys,

Is there a way via scipting to force a pc to refresh their local printer
settings from the print server ? We have enabled Duplexing as the default for
printing ( conserve that paper ! ) for our HP Laserjet printers on the
Print Server, but if a user goes on their local printer settings and unchecks
duplexing, it will not re-pull that device setting from the print server
unless you delete and then re-add the printer on the local machine. Is there
a way to have the printer settings pulled from the server without have to
delete and then readd the locally installed network printer ?

I had a Print Server EUSSO that connected with my old deskjet printer (HP deskjet 845c USB) to my knowledge it working fine...

Though I had bought a new printer (HP laserjet 1020 USB) hook it up to a Print Server but to my amazement, I couldn't get it to work (it working fine, if plug direct to PC)... I set it the way I worked with the old deskjet (HP deskjet 845c USB) and I don't see why it didn't work... Or maybe the Print Server do not support the new Printer? I had visit HP support site, and they just didn't give me any good solution...

Note: upon completing the setup and do a test print; I notice there aren't any error messages display... I see a queue of file on the Printer Document Name last for 2 seconds and dissappear, No errors messages...
But if I try to change the port name/number it will display error message upon printing, and the file on the Printer Document Name didn't dissappear either...

I am so curious why it didn't work?
1. I know it not the printer fault
2. Print Server is not malfunction either (unless it not meant to support my new printer)
3. Not the cable either
4. I don't see any wrong doing with my setup, since I got the first one work and running
5. Now I am sitting duck

Any feed back on this issue would gladly be appreciated...

A:Print Server won't print on new printer

Did you install the drivers for your new printer? (Obvious, sorry, but I have to ask) Best bet would be to uninstall all printers and printer software you have and start over from scratch.

The print server doesn't have to support your printer - all it does is take the data sent by your computer and forward it to the USB port. Your printer however has to support the print server. Some printers require a bidirectional connection with the computer and that cannot work over the network.

Does your print server suppirt several types of connection? It could be any combination of LPR, SMB, JetDirect and any proprietary protocols. Try something else than you are using right now.

I have Windows XP and a Cannon S330 Printer. Everytime I try to Print a document or test page I get an error message saying
"Front cover was opened afer last printing job and one of the cartridges may have been replaced."

Then it asks me if I know if I replaced a cartridge click YES or if not sure or no click NO, now before I can click anything the window freezes and says Not Responding so I have to End Task to ge it away.

It also says that it can't show me any properties because the Print Spooler service is not running. When I got to Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Services. I see that the Spool service is turned off so I turn it back on

Then everytime I try to reprint and get the same message as before I got back to Services and check the Spooler Service it is turned off again.

A:Printer Trouble--Print Spooler, etc.....

From the printers window, delete all the printers installed on your machine (even ones other than the Canon). Delete the contents of the c:\winnt\system32\spool folder. Unplug your printer, reboot. After having booted into windows once with no printer, shut off the machine, plug in the printer. Contact the manufacturer and ask them how to reset the factory default settings on the printer (Most printers have this "reset" feature, done with some buttons pushes on the printer itself). Boot up the machine, and see if it detects your printer. If not, go onto the manufacturers website, download the latest drivers and install manually.

Hope this helps...

I have a Kodak 5100 AIO printer. I purchased also a Belkin wireless print server to allow me to send documents from my laptop to print out upstairs on the Kodak. However....having tried to set the server up with no luck I can now find no information to say that the kodak supports a server. I know it will definately take a bluetooth adaptor however my laptop does not have bluetooth installed. Belkin website says to press "white" reset/test button on back of server once all wires connected and this will print out IP address to allow me to set up tcp/ip port. There is no white button but a black button on the server but pressing this does nothing. Wondering if there is any workaround for this or whether I should just return server.
Also... if anyone has the Kodak 5100, does yours power down itself after not used for 30 mins or so, anyway of stopping this happening?
Thanks, Gill

A:Printer & Print server

The current line of Kodak printers are based on an Epson design, with the print heads mounted separately inside the machine, and use a cold-ink delivery system - this means it uses an acrylic based in its inks as a drying agent. What this all means is to preserve the print heads so they don't dry out prematurely, the unit will power down automatically so that the heat the system creates does not dry it out. So the answer is no.

As for the print servers, is the Kodak associated with another computer, or is the laptop the only thing working with it? If it is with another computer, you can always use it as the print server with less fuss than adding a wireless one.

But, if the Belkin is the way to go, they do work well, having used one, though not all models want to work with AIOs, since the scanning option usually messes things up. Have you tried Belkin's 800 number? They've been pretty good in the past at working out kinks in their machines. You should have gotten a form with it in your package.

Trouble with my SMC Barricade Router Print Server

A question for you is...how do you ever get printing to work with XP? I now have many XP machines and cannot install printers as it says for win2k in the manual. I believe i need pointers on how to configure a print client with XP.

Following the instructions in the manual, I get as far as to choose a network printer and then entering the IP any possible way and and/or using anonymous account or windows user account or user name(admin)/password or no password.....nothing works....error is "printer not found" or "unable to connect"

Logging into the router is ok, check status? this says printer is ready! when unplugged it says no printer found, when turned off it says printer offline.

The manual points out that win2k has a print client already, Using the SMC driver disk print client(which is for win9x) on XP only prints one line of erronious garbage as the test page and nothing for usual docs.

Frustrated does not discribe my condition.

I'm faced with a technical problem and I hope I can get a definitive answer here

I have a D-Link three-port print server and it has 2x LPT and 1x USB for ports.
My major LPT printer just said "Sayonara" and is "in the bin" now so I'm facing the problem of connecting up its replacement which is USB-only

I see there are several powered adapters out there that would allow me to map an LPT port to USB, e.g. male connector towards the port, USB A towards the printer for a standard connection.
Will this work on a print server or are these adapters only for the PC parallel port?

Thanks for any help.

I replace my old SMC Router with a ZyXEL that was recommended here and have added a D-Link DP-300U Print Server. I was having difficult getting it configured to run my two printers. I am running XP Pro and went in and deleted all my printers and started fresh. I am new to this type of thing, it was a hassle but the two printers are running fine now.

My problem is that I am unable to print any PDF documents. When I try to print I receive a dialogue box - "Before you can perform print related-tasks such as page setup or printing a document, you need to install a printer". I have Googled without luck and am new to this type situation. I am lost at this point.

I've been using a Hewlett Packard PSC 1350v All in One Printer on a home computer network for some time now. The printer is being shared with 2 other computers by my desktop which is a dual boot system. One of these is a laptop on a wireless network.

I just bought a print server so that the other 2 computers could access the printer without going through the desktop. Installing the print server seemed to go fine until I reached the point where I installed the printer through it. Then it tells me there is no printer driver. When I tried to install the driver off the CD that came with the printer it says it still can't find it. I downloaded updated software with drivers from the HP website and got the same results. The HP website said this software wouldn't work through an ethernet or wireless connection.

My question is: Does the software from the cd also not support ethernet or wireless? Or is there another reason why I can't get this to work? Has anyone else run across this?

Here are my system specs just in case it might help:

Athlon 64 3200+ (2.2Ghz)
MSI K8TNeo FSR w/ VIA Raid, Gigabit LAN, AC97 sound and USB2

Windows XP Pro X64 on Seagate 200 Gb SATA Raid 1

A:Why won't my printer work with a print server?

Most print servers won't function with a Windows GDI interfaced printer. This is a pretty common issue. If you want to run a printer from a print server, you normally need a printer that has PDL, PostScript support, or some other page description language. I've been down this road several times.

I had to setup the printer through usb first then add a printing port to the router & when it was connected directly I had printer status. Does anyone know how to get the printer status showing again?

Thanks for any help

I don't know the answer to your question; but have a question of my own. Do Epson and Canon say that the printer status is supposed to be available over a network for those two printers? I have an HP "network ready" printer and about the only status is 'connected' or 'not connected.'

I have a question on my all in one printer and print server. Dell says it's linkysis's fault and linkysis says it's dell's fault. Wonderfully helpful!

I have a dell all-in-one printer. Just a cheapo. Better than what I had. I can print, scan, fax, and copy with the printer. The dell printer also has software that lets my computer know about ink levels, status, and allows me to scan.

When I hook up the print server, my computer will recognize the server, but not the printer. My set up is a linkysis router hooked up to my cable modem. One computer is wired and the other is wireless. I had the print server wired for set up and then had it wireless.

Anyhow, Can I set up a printer like my interactive printer on a server and have it work with the computer like it does when it is hooked up with a usb cable??? Can I scan documents into my computer when it's hooked upto my print server?

Or am I wasting my time and I should just offload the print server on ebay and cut my looses?

Hello all,

I have a DP-301U print server connected to my network and a Samsung ML-2510. Our most recent print server (also a DP-301U) died about a week ago. I got the new one and installed it, and everything ran fine for about a day and a half.

When I went to the web management console of the DP-301U, it showed the printer status as "off line". I then had to physically power-cycle the printer/disconnect the USB cable. After that, it started working again.

After about three hours though it stopped printing again. I went to the web management console of the DP-301U, and again it showed the printer status as "off line". This time however, no amount of power-cycling would help the printer to be seen as online.

I contacted D-Link tech support, but that call was worthless. Any ideas would be welcome.

A:Print Server only sees printer as offline

Any thoughts at all? Should I exchange it out for a new one? Am I missing some simple option? I'm guessing this may be because of the power save mode the printer can go into? If I disable power save on every PC in the office do you think it will stop (provided I can get it back up)?

Just joined this site 4 minutes ago, so forgive me if I'm asking the same question that has been raised a gazillion times before. I've looked at a relevant thread, but it didn't quite answer my question.. Here's my situation, for anyone who might offer advice.
We have two laptops with wireless cards, a pc with a wireless compact USB adaptor, an old but working HP Photosmart printer (USB cable), and a Linksys wireless-G router with Speedbooster connection to the internet for the whole shabang. I want to buy a four-in-one printer (looking at the cheap option of a refurbished Brother 5440CN flatbed) mostly to have scanner and fax capabilities, and would love to be able to put it wherever, and have all the various computers print from that machine, without cables and the hassle of toting machines here and there. That particular four-in-one is "network ready" - but I'm realizing that I'm not entirely clear what that means. . Is the "network ready" printer ready to do what I need it to do - can I (somehow - via software?) get it configured on my network so that it will respond to each of the computers? OR do I also need to buy a print server, and if so, what kind? And if so, wired or wireless, and what does it matter? And which models support the best security (WPA)? Thanks for considering this.

As a first-time poster, I want to be sure that I've posted this in the right place. If anyone knows that my question's in the wrong forum, please feel free to advise and I'll move it right away. Thanks for your patience.

I have a print server on a Win2K network. The server is an older HP Kayak running Win2Ksp2, with an Epson InkJet printer attached through a USB cable. Initially, it worked fine until the Epson (a model c82) died. We replaced it with a c84 and I was charged with installing new drivers, making sure the share name was the same so that existing users could still see it, and adding a second printer on the PC so that a new share/printer name could be used going forward. It didn't sound hard, so I set about my task.

I had everything fine yesterday, but today, something bizarre started happening. The printer began to set itself as the default printer on a few key user machines. All the machines are set up the same, with Win2Ksp3 and six different Win2K patches; not ALL machines in the building were altered, but the ones that were are users printing sensitive and confidential material. Of course, it's a problem.

So, I have tried to uninstall the print drivers, and clean the registry of any entries of the Epson c84. Then, I reinstalled it. No good; same problem. I then removed the printer, removed the drivers again, and reinstalled the c82 drivers. Same problem. To keep the machine from setting itself as the default printer ... Read more

Printer (brother HL-5150D) is connected to Ubuntu 10.04 Linux desktop. I'm unable to print to it from my new hp dm4t running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

The printer is installed on, and works fine from, a laptop running Windows XT and a desktop running Windows 2000 Professional, and of course from various Linux boxes as well.

I was able to install and use the printer on the Win7 laptop by disconnecting it from the network & connecting it by usb to the laptop (using "generic" driver from Windows Update), but that's not an appealing solution.

The printer is installed on all 3 Windows machines as a network printer with the uri:
http://<server lan address>:631/printers/HL-5150D-series
and this works fine on the two older versions of Windows.

I also tried installing it on the Windows 7 machine as a local printer with that same address.

Note that the Windows 7 printer wizard does report that it was successfully installed -- but it is unable to print a test page. It is also unable to "configure the port"; in other words, after installation I went to printer/properties/ports and clicked to "configure" the checked port, and then just clicked OK on the next dialog without making any changes, but that operation fails with "An error occurred during port configuration. Operation could not be completed (error 0x000000aa)."

I'm having an issue with sharing a HP 2025 printer from a XP Pro print server to a windows 7 workstation. The workstations are all on the same workgroup and all running off the same switch.

There are some xp workstations and some w7 worskstations. The xp workstations add the printer via the sharename "\\Print-SVR\HP Colour" O.K. but the w7 machines continually ask me for a password to which I enter and get rejected. If I add the printer directly via it's IP address by creating a TCP/IP port it works perfectly fine. I have disabled all firewalls and set full access to 'everyone'on the printer. When I view all the devices on the workgroup I can see the other workstations as well as the print server. When I double click on another workstation (both XP and W7) from a W7 machine I am granted access without being prompted for a password except for the print server! When I try the print server I am asked for a password which it does not accept.

My question is; Why am I only asked for a password on the w7 machines and why does it not accept it when entered? Also, I have an identical setup at 10 other locations however at these other locations the workstations are either all xp or all windows 7 (The print servers are identical and running xp at all locations). I have a serious problem with printing. All my printers have previously worked fine. But after installing a pdf-printer Cute PDF Creator or Foxit Advanced PDF Editor, all printing attemps will fail. I tried unistalling & installing all printers I have. Even Microsoft XPS-printer won`t work.

When I try to print from Word, nothing happens (Samsung, PDF and XPS). Sometimes Word even crashes. When I try to print from Excel, windows 7 gives a notification: current printer is not available, choose another printer (language is in finnish). WIth Mozilla Firefox I get a nofication: Printer not working/ An error occurred while printing). I have tried this with in all printing options (Samsung, PDF and XPS).

This problem first occurred two months ago. I googled a lot and tried even to empty registyy etc. But the only way I could fix this was to get registry backup from a time before I fisrt tried to install a pdf-printer. Unfortunately, after the registry backup was restored, several other problems started to raise with other programs. This is obvious because the registry backup was very old (6 months).

So I re-installed whole windows 7 home premium 64-bit. I even formatted my harddrive (2.0 Gb) to get a clean start. Now I finally have everything re-istalled and working perfectly. Samusung M2026W was working fine. But immediatelly after I installed PDF-printer (this time Foxit Anvanced PD... Read more

I have Windows Vista, verizon wireless router, netgear printer server and a canon 190 all-in-one printer. When I install the printer sever it connects to the router no problem. It also connects to the printer but the name under LPT1 port says the printer is unknown. I have re-installed and rebooted many times. It will not print, it says the printer is offline. The wireless laptop we have sometimes prints but not always.
(This server was previously connected to my old computer and it worked).
I just triied to reinstall again and now it doesn't complete connecting to the wireless server.
I have spend many hours on this and I could really use some help. Thanks

Of course, you will need to tell us what you need help with...

And what brand / model the server is, what kind of network you have... at that point we can also decide if this belongs here or in the Network forum.

Hey guys, currently having an issue with installing a HP P2055dn printer.I went to the HP website entered the model number downloaded the PCL6 Universal driver for 64 bit systems everything went seemingly ok.However, when I attempt to search for my printer it doesnt show on the listing. So I then go to add a printer sometimes it finds the printer and sometimes it doesnt. When it finds the printed and I attempt to add it I get the error "unable to connect 0x0000007e"When I attempt to uninstall the driver I get the error "Unable to install because the driver is in use"I tried again and got this "The following package(s) can not be deleted:hpcu104u.inf (x64)This package contains the following driver(s) that are in use:HP Universal Printing PCL 6; This driver is used on: HP Universal Printing PCL 6 (Copy 1)The following driver(s) can not be deleted:Driver HP Universal Printing PCL 6 (x64) is in use. It is used on: HP Universal Printing PCL 6 (Copy 1)..............................................................................................So I then delete the HP Universal Printing PCL 6 (Copy 1) Printer and then try again with no luck.So I then follow this guide http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/FAQPrinting.htm and edit the registry by deleting a few printer related things.open regedit (e.g. click Start, type regedit and press Enter) and navigate to:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\... I accidentally uninstalled my Dell 5100cn PCL6 printer from the Devices and Printers window and reinstalled it. But now it does not print, and hasn't even printed the test page.

I reinstalled it in the same window by right clicking and choosing add printer. I chose "Add local printer" since it is connected directly to my computer via printer cable. I selected "Use driver that's currently installed (recommended)".

I have used Windows Update to check for any driver updates for the printer but found none. Driver seems up to date.

I still see the "Test Page" Status: "printing" when looking at "See what's printing" after right clicking on the printer, but there is no activity or any kind coming from the printer.

Other people in my office have been able to print on it.

I have Windows 7.

Please help! I have no idea why it's not printing!

Have spent hours getting to a point where I can print wirelessly only by rebooting the laptop and then printing one document. Further prints fail - unless laptop rebooted. The print server is connected wirelessly to a Dlink DSL-G604T modem/router. I reckon that, since the print server WLAN light is flickering intermittently the whole time - even when the machine is switched off - that the print is not completed properly and that the print server does not receive a print end instruction. This is borne out also after rebooting and printing that only 99% of the print job is performed - it never gets to 100%. Has anyone else seen this problem - and has anyone fixed it? Otherwise the print server will be going back to the store.

I've just installed a wireless Belkin Print Server and having several problems. There are 3 computers, 2 on Windows 2000 and a lap top on XP. At first 2 of the printers could print fine. Then I downloaded the printdrivers for the HP 6110 on to the 3rd machine. Since then the drivers have been deleted from the other 2 computers - and the download version doesn't work. So now none of the computers can print.

I can reinstall the drivers - but what is to stop this happpening all over again?

The network is wireless (netgear) using BT Broadband. Can any one suggest what I can do to retsore the printer - incidentally after the pc drivers disappeared I checked the lap top and it was fine until it was switched on - it worked once then went teh same way as the others...Can anyone help?

I am having trouble installing printers on my Win 7 64bit system. This system has been up for a while and had the same printers I'm trying to install installed on it but they are network printers and I just switched routers. The system see the new work just fine. This is the only change to the system, a new router/network (same network new wireless connection).

I just get the window with the green bar searching for hardware forever, it never finds anything or takes me to the next step.

Some ideas on what to do/look for please?

You say they are network printers, Are they shared off of another pc or are they IP based?

If they are shared off of another computer, can you ping that other computer?
If they are IP based, can you ping the IP of the printer?

what kind of router was the old one and what is the make and model of the new Router?

Windows isn't recognizing my printer when I plug it in. This printer was working fine previously, but I reinstalled Windows yesterday and I can't get it to work since then.

When I try to install the printer driver through the CD, the installation instructions say I have to wait for Windows to detect printer before continuing. I do exactly what the instructions say but Windows never detects at printer.

When I plug in the printer, Windows makes that noise like it's recognizing something being plugged in, but the "Found New Hardware" thing doesn't pop up.

I did notice that if I go into My Computer, when I plug in the printer a "Removable Disk" drive pops up. It knows something is being plugged in but it's like it doesn't realize it's a printer.

There are currently no printers or printer drivers installed on the computer.

I've tried unplugging printer and restarting windows then plugging it back in.

It is connected via USB. I've also tried plugging the USB cord into different USB ports on the computer but it didn't help.

It's like the computer thinks it's a disk drive instead of a printer because that Removable Disk pops up every time.

It is a Canon Multipass F60.
