I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

when ever i install need for speed most wanted it works the first time and then the second time it works only if i unplug my controller, which i need to play the game. I'm running ultimate x64 and I've tired it in xp sp2 and 95 mode. As soon as it launches it just crashes.

A:need for speed crashes on 2nd launch

two questions:

1: why do you need to install the software twice?
2: any error messae, this will help.

some thoughts about this problem:

1: as we could installl it the first time, so this software it'self is ok. which means that this software is compatible with windows vista.
2: this issue is only encountered with the controller pluged. so this issue might be related with THIS controller. check if you could contact the manufacturer of this controller to get some more detailed information.

anything unclear feel free to email me:

i will do my best to help you to solve this issue.

I have windows 8 with classic shell that makes it look like windows 7 on an Acer PC. Mozilla Firefox works fine. I have used chrome for a long time and all of a sudden today it would not launch. Clicking the shortcut icon would light it up as if it was launching and then it would go dim. When I restarted a weird computer game launched that I have never seen or hear of before, which makes me think its malware. I did not write down the name of the game and don't remember it. After restarting I ran Avast scanner and Anti-malwarebytes. Neither showed any malware. I have uninstalled and reinstalled chrome and now the program launches but immediately after launch it crashes with the message "A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a sollution is available." I have not noticed any other symptoms of malware or abnormalities, but still concerned. Thanks for the help.

Recently, bought an Apple iMac, installed Parallels virtual machine and installed my Windows XP Professional Version 2002 SP3 and installed my CS3 Premium. Every program works except Illustrator. It crashes every time I launch it getting the error message..."blah, blah, blah, sorry for the inconvenience...'' and asks to send an error report. I have uninstalled and reinstalled every possible way, downloaded all the updates, and fixed the registry, repeatedly and every time it fails. I have been using CS3 on my HP laptop every since I got it and never had issues.

Adobe support sent me this doc: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/401/kb401053.html

This is the error message: Faulting application error illustrator.exe, version 13.0.128.0, faulting module gdiplus.dll, version 5.2.6001.22319, fault address 0x0000f75b.

This is very frustrating. I bought the new imac 2 weeks ago and have yet to do any design work because of this issue. Illustrator is the one program above all I use the most. I am trying to avoid having to pay someone to solve this issue.

Let me know what you think. Thanks!

When I launch certain games from Steam (not sure if it's steam only games or what), games like Counterstrike: GO, Daksiders II, Saints Row The Third, my computer gets a blue screen, and then reboots. The blue screen says something about BIOS. I guess this information would be of use to you:

Processor: AMD FX(tm)-6100 Six-Core Processor
Manufacturer: AMD
Speed: 3.3 GHz
Number of Cores: 6
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560
Manufacturer: NVIDIA
Chipset: GeForce GTX 560
Dedicated Memory: 2.1 GB
Total Memory: 4.0 GB
Memory: 8.2 GB
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Edition Service Pack 1 (build 7601), 64-bit
Service Pack: 1
Size: 64 Bit
Edition: Home Premium

Just note that I can play games, I can play games like Arma 2, Dota 2, Team Fortress 2, Red Orchestra 2(funny how all of these games end in 2, maybe i can only play games with 2 in them lol) even games not purchased from Steam like World of Warcraft.

I do not know if I need to fix the Motherboard, the videocard, some people say it's the DirectX, i honestly don't know too much about computers and all the technical stuff. Thanks for reading, I could use all the help I can get.

Hi and welcome to TSG.

Is this a prebuild, branded PC like a HP, Dell, Acer etc? If so, what is the exact make and model number?

What is the exact make, model and wattage of the PSU?

Have you ever changed or upgraded any hardware since you got the machine?

Is Windows and all your drivers fully patched and up to date?

Could be drivers, PSU, graphics card, RAM or something else at this stage

A:Firefox crashes everytime I try to launch it.

First step would be to try starting Firefox in Safe Mode, which is done by holding down the shift key and double-clicking the FF desktop icon. (I think, but don't know, that this will work with a single click if you have a FF icon on the Windows task bar.)

Alternatively, Start Button/Run/ and one of these:

firefox -safe-mode

A couple of days ago my Outlook XP (2002) began crashing on start-up (after generally launching and running normally before). I installed Office XP Service Pack 3 in hope that this update would fix the problem however it didn't.

On start-up, the following things occur:
1. The MS Outlook main window and introduction splash screen (i.e. large logo with user and product ID details, etc) is displayed as if Outlook is loading as normal
2. The main application window is white, i.e. with no actual program elements (folder list, preview pane, etc) displayed inside except the main toolbar ("File", "Edit", "View", etc).
3. After a short while (c.15-30 seconds) the application crashes and the "Restart Microsoft Outlook" and "Send Error Report" dialogue box is displayed. The Error Report contains the following error signature data:

AppName: Outlook.exe
AppVer: 10.0.6626.0
ModName: Outllib.dll
ModVer: 10.0.6515.0
Offset: 0002d704

Outlook also failed to launch in "Safe Mode" and also after I deleted my default Outlook.pst and Outlook-Hotmail.pst files (made copies first so I didn't lose the data).

I have spent the last couple of days trying to resolve this problem myself and checked several websites (including Microsoft) for any information that might help me but have found nothing.

I urgently need to get my Outlook back up and running and access to the data contained in my PST file. I would appreciate any help you ... Read more

So I have this infamous windows media player crashes on launch issue after I did a restore from one harddrive to another using Ultimate x64 backup feature. Now whenever I launch windows media player it crashes on launch with the indiv01.exe fault. I looked at the guide to fix it and how I need to edit the registry, but I have no registry entry for DRM/DataPath. How would I add it or does anyone have more detailed steps on how to set this up if I don't even have this registry key? I also do not have any DRM content, so this might be why i don't have this datapath. I'll do a re-install if I have to, but I really don't want to at the moment.

Hi soulesschild,

Have you run system file checker to restore any missing/corrupted system files?
Run Checkdisk as well.
System Files - SFC Command
Check Disk - chkdsk
If that doesn't work, try repairing your OS with the repair option on your installation disk, if you have one.

Sorry about this but I have quite a bit of initial background information that really now only boils down to a fairly small problem, but It is all relevant information. A few days ago my computer started getting stop error messages, usually while browsing internet explorer. Sometimes they would just shut down IE, other times completley crash windows, causing an immediate re-boot, rather than the blue screen of death. Anyways, it would boot back up, saying it recovered from a serious error, cause by a device driver, or stop error. One of the remedies it listed was trying to do a repair of windows XP, which I ended up doing. It was only after I did this repair that I realized (remembered) what was causing the errors. Several years ago when I first got my current computer, I had similar problems. I fixed the problems by going into bios and adjusting the RAM timings, AKA slightly underclocking my RAM. Apparently there is some issue with my Motherboard where the speed of RAM I had installed is actually too fast of a speed for the motherboard, even though it lists that it should support the speed (I belive PC3200) Anyways like I said, it wasnt until after I did a repair of XP that I remembered that we had had a power outage a few days prior, that caused my BIOS settings to revert back to default. If I wouldve realized that initially, I probably wouldnt be having the problem I am having now. I ended up running the Repair of XP where it re-installs itself. During the Repair, I reciev... I have this lovely new PC which I built about 2 months ago now. Beast of a thing, but I'm having number of problems which, having been a mac user for 2 years now, I'm hopeless at fixing. Don't want to hog too much forum space so I'll shove them all on one post- even a small hint to get me started would be great and sorry for the excessive text! (I'll try and avoid too much unecessarry rambling from now).

All attempted solutions have been tried through 2 different working internet connections- 1 through a company network with firewall, proxy, the lot, the other just a 2MB Virgin home wireless network so it's not a network problem.

Here's a list of the main problems:

1. Firefox crashes when trying to load new pages on an almost 2 minutely basis- this seems to be a flash based problem? It's version 3.0.13 (can't update due to problem no.2). It still dies in safe mode so it's not an add on, and it doesn't seem to be due to a certain script or anything- it's just any website with ads or videos or anything like that at all and it's probably 1 in 3-4 time it loads a page (and while trying to preview this it crashed on the login page...nothing fancy on there that I saw). I can't find out if it's just FF since IE8 and Chrome can't find the internet- they only see the ethernet port and not my wireless card even though FF has no problem with it. (technically another problem for the list I suppose)

2. exe files don't launch- they just crash whatever thing I try and open them ... Read more

Hi -

My 1st question - when did you last re-install Vista and have you considered it recently? If not, I think you should. It would help isolate software issues vs. hardware, if they exist.

The major problem that I see here is the existence of both NIS & KIS together. Either by itself could be responsible for many of your problems because of the personal firewall they each contain. Having both exponentially increases the potential for trouble because they fight each other for control. Even if disabled they can cause trouble.

I would like for you to remove both NIS & KIS and then see if the system stabilizes at all. Use the removal tools for each written by Norton & Kaspersky.

Download the Norton Removal Tool (NRT); save to desktop. Then go to desktop, RIGHT-click on the NRT icon and select Run as Administrator. When complete - re-boot.

NRT - ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/englis...moval_Tool.exe

Repeat the same for KIS - http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208279463

Reset the Windows Firewall to its default settings -
START | type FirewallSettings.exe into the start search box | click on FirewallSettings.exe above | select the Advanced Tab | click on "Restore Defaults" | Click Apply, OK

Use AVG for a/v if you wish - http://free.avg.com/download-avg-ant...s-free-edition

Before you start, I would be interested to know if running in SAFEMODE w/ Networking is the same (crashes - IE, FFox, etc...) or do they work?

I don't know whether I have a malware problem, or a hard-drive-in-death-throes problem, or what. But I figured it was best to start here, so if it's not a virus I can go over to the XP forum with that ruled out.

Over the past few months my desktop has been steadily driving me nuts. First it began giving me BSODs at random intervals, anything from a day to a month apart. Hi.

My windows explorer crashes and restarts every time I perform some action (e.g., opening a file, moving a file, saving a file). I get the standard "windows explorer encountered a problem and needs to shut down; sorry for the inconvenience" message. In addition, trying to attach a file (mostly word documents) crashes the web browser - IE and firefox simply close, chrome gives an error message "plug-in crash - shockwave flash" and becomes unresponsive.

I very much appreciate your help.

Thanks for listening, as my user name reflects I am now into stuff I'm ignorant about.

History.

Had this computer a little over a year, I7 with 16gb of memory, windows 7 ultimate. etc

About a month ago, started seeing BSOD's. The BSOD would normally reflect "Memory Management" as the cause. Then the browsers started crashing, tried chrome, firefox and IE. Have removed and re installed all of them. I continue to received "windows has recovered" screens.

Was reading this thread, attempted the memory test via CD, it ran for several hours (actually alowed it to run all night. When I went to bed it was on test 8, the errors were moving from 0 to 32767. I got up this morning, same numbers, same test #. Seemed like it was stuck on that run even though the error numbers were still changing.

I have down loaded and ran who crashed. It's conclusion is :

If Memtest86+ is showing up errors, then there are hardware issues present. It's just discerning what hardware is bad. Initial suspect obviously is memory, but the unusual case makes it think it's some logic error like some CPU failure or something. It's also possible that when burning it to CD that the Memtest itself got corrupted somehow (i.e. bad burn).

16 GB is a lot of memory on a consumer motherboard. There is the possibility that while your motherboard can handle 16GB of memory, that 16GB of the actual memory model that you're using may not be supported. Certain configurations of memory can have problematic issues. So while the memory sticks themselves may not be bad, the actual 16GB setup of them may break things.

Have you tested system stability with reduced amount of RAM, like 1/2 sticks of RAM, as well as running Memtest on a couple passes for each separate stick?

I'll keep this short and sweet because I know how busy you guys are.
I built a gaming computer from scratch, there were a lot of problems even getting it working initially this time, as compared to the last one I built that I had zero problems with ever.
I am getting a lot of BSOD's, games freeze and crash, movies freeze and crash, and streaming does too. In addition, I am getting an error occasionally with the GPU that tells me it has timed out and reset the GPU. I used the windows recommended fix for this and set the response timeout time to 8 seconds, since I have done so I have only seen this problem once. I was wondering if I had too little power for my system, but I have seen threads with similar problems that have plenty of power. I followed the instructions to the best of my ability, and you should find all of the information you have asked for below. Please don't hesitate to ask for anything else you may need. I truly appreciate what you guys are doing here for so many people.

IMO, the suggested fixes for the TDR timeout of the video card only conceals the problem - it doesn't fix it.If the card is timing out, then fixing the cause of the timeout is preferable (IMO) to just lengthening the timeout. Unfortunately it appears that the system has pirated software. Please get a legitimate copy installed and we'll be glad to help. Here's suggestions on how to ensure that your version is legitimate:  http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/genuinePlease be aware that we may not be able to fix it (as the hacks that were done to activate it will cause the OS to behave differently than we expect it to). If that's the case, our efforts to help may just waste your time. Secondly, the forum rules prohibit assisting with pirated software - so the topic would be closed if that is the case.As a courtesy, I will offer an analysis of your issues using the reports you provided.I will not answer any questions about the analysis until the system is made legitimate. If you do make it legitimate, please submit a new set of reports for us to check.Just FYI, sometimes the owner won't know about this.  So here's 2 scenarios that might ring a bell:- if they had a "friend" help with the computer - and the "friend" installed a pirated copy.- or they used a copy that they had from another OEM computer.  The OEM license is tied to the hardware that it came from - so you can't just use it on another system (that means that it's pirated). And here's the analysis... I have NOT installed the latest Windows Updates only because I haven't gotten around to doing it. What I will do in the meantime while waiting for an answer here is run a chkdsk and a virus scan(AVG).

Thanks in advance.

Are you running both AVG and MSE? If so, remove one or the other. Having two security programs that accomplish essentially the same tasks can cause conflicts due to them accessing the same system files or system resources simultaneously. It is possible this is the behavior that is causing your explorer.exe issue.

Okay, so I got this new computer (about 2 years ago LOL) but it crashed everytime I started it. So, I gave it to my kids... now I'm finally around to trying to fix it. It has Vista Home Premium. I've run all the updates. When It comes back on (in safe mode) it asks if I want to see why it crashed. It always comes back telling me I need to update my BIOS. So, I check the version... and it is up to date (I did actually DO the update once). It still crashes. I can't make a backup disk in safe mode from my partitioned portion of the hard drive. When I tried making the backup NOT in safe mode... yes, you guessed it... the system crashed. Someone please help me.

My son has Vista on his computer. Can I make a bootable recovery disk from his partioned portion on his hard drive? If so, how do I find my Windows Vista serial number?

I hope someone can please help me. I'll be patient... I've waited this long, what's a bit longer

Thanks All!!

Hey guys, I'm going on my 10th hour of trouble shooting here.

Started my PC this morning, went and opened Steam, then windows explorer crashed without a message (Task bar disappeared) and locked up my whole PC for about 5 seconds before the BSOD. Rebooted to install "WhoCrashed" to read the minidump. During this process, I went through about 6 other crashes of the same nature. It doesn't seem to be dependent on load, however, because it'll happen just sitting idle on the desktop too.

On the most recent crash, I noticed that around the same time explorer crashed, my Razer keyboard and mouse both died out, leaving me no control.

I just got a new graphics card (NVIDEA Geforce GTX 960 4GB) 2 weeks ago and it was all fine up until now, so I'm not sure if it's related. We put in a Coolermaster CPU cooler at the same time, new thermal paste, etc. and all temperatures are normal (about 90 degrees F, same as always). None of my temps are off from what they've been for the last 2 years, and I don't think I've ever had a BSOD on this custom PC.

Updated NVIDEA drivers from safe mode, started looking into Motherboard updates, but not applying any because I can't even tell what I have already. Everything is fine and dandy in safe mode.

So, please, for the love of all things holy, someone help me out here... I'm good with PC's but I'm at my witt's end here. Attached you should find the proper log and an image from Speccy. Had to take it with my phone beca... Read more

Hello all,

recently my windows xp(sp2) has just encountered a massive set of problems that all started appearing all at around the same time.
1. I cannot install/uninstall any programs, ANY programs, be it warcraft 3, firefox, or word processing applications or anything. What happens is the installer starts up, then when it starts to install or uninstall, it just hangs there completely.
2. Programs that are in use on the computer crash randomly. MSN messenger randomly crashes and just locks up itself and all conversation windows. IE sometimes hard locks itself without prior provocation. Firefox, ms word, windows media player... anything and everything hangs at random intervals.
3. Interestingly enough, when any program hangs, even taskmanager (ctrlaltdel) is unable to close the locked up program. It is stated there as not responding, but when i click end task either of two things happen: a) taskmgr ignores my request entirely b) taskmgr ITSELF hangs (the title says "windows task manager (not responding)"
4. Computer cannot shut down. Clicking the shut down icon on the windows menu lags the entire computer and the menu to restart shutdown or log off never appears. As a result i have taken to manually pulling the plug. Obviously this cannot continue.

I have avast4 which is updated and there doesn't seem to be any viruses or spyware. Also when a program hangs, it doesn't take up more cpu than normal; cpu usage always remains the same (around 0 to 10 for me)... Read more

This is now my fourth attempt to post this topic.Every time that I restart my system I will have from one to five generic hosts to crash. Internet Explorer has been freezing up and not responding. HI there i have noticed recently that i have been getting odd explorer.exe restarts whenever i go to Control Panel-System & Security-Windows Update. After clicking windows update explorer will say it needs to restart and go ahead and restart itself. The problem is that it is completely random when it happens. I can't reproduce it 100% of the time. I thought it might be a memory problem but i ran memtest for 13 hours and no errors came up. I ran a chkdsk and sfc /scannow and both also returned no errors. I have disabled all non-microsoft shell extentions as well and that still hasn't stopped the issue. It doesn't bluescreen or even cause any other issues from what i can tell and i can continue using everything afterwards just fine and even go into the Windows Update without it crashing. It only seems to get messed up after a reboot. I also haven't been able to install any Windows SDK to check the dmp file myself.

Now a new problem i have been having is with the Witcher 2. During cutscenes the computer will lock up and my monitor will return "No Display" but my computer will remain on. I can't ctrl+alt+del or do anything. I thought it might be my temps but my gpu was registering 71c and my cpu was registering 42c. I have to hard reset everytime.

Im confused, but I will describe this best I can:

explorer.exe crashes when viewing folders or anything built on explorer.exe (I guess) at exactly 11 seconds in on them. It also randomly crashes every couple hours. Im extremely confused by all this and wondering if anyone knows what is going on.

Thanks to anyone who helps or attempts to do so.

A:XP SP2: explorer.exe randomly crashes and always crashes when in folders

Have you done any recent updates or installed any new software to the computer?

Also, I would suggest downloading HiJackThis! and then including the log file in a post so that it can be looked at by one of the qualified agents here in order to help you out. Also you might try downloading and installing MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware and running it. I have found that program to be quite helpful in identifying potential OS issues.

If you are getting explorer.exe crashes as often as you say, then there may be more serious damage to your operating system that will potentially result in a clean reinstall.

This BSOD has been going on for some time and I finally found this forum. I'm suspecting it is RAM, but I want to be sure before doing the 'shotgun' approach.

I'm hoping someone can help me and I have the downloaded the SF Diagnostic tool and I've uploaded the ZIP folder to this thread.

Thank you,
Brad

Hi ibradh.

Update your ATI/AMD display driver to the latest WHQL.
You can get it from the link in our forum, Latest AMD Catalyst Video Driver for Windows 7, or you may go to AMD Graphics Driver and Software and opt for Automatically Detect and Install the appropriate driver for your card.

During installation, you may opt for advanced installation, and install the display driver only, not the Catalyst Control Center.

Update relatek network driver from Realtek. Get the Win7 and WinServer 2008 R2 Auto Installation Program dated 2013/11/26.

Update NETGEAR WNDA3100v2 N600 Wireless Dual Band USB Adapter driver from Welcome to NETGEAR Support.

When an old computer crashes during games (BF4) we need to know the following information:

Stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark.
Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark

Is the computer hot? Report us the heat of the computer after a couple of hours of your normal usage. Upload a screenshot of the summery tab of Speccy. Alternatively, you can publish a Speccy snapshot too: Speccy - Publish Snapshot of your System Specs .

Check if the Power Supply Unit (PSU) supplying adequate power to the computer or not.

Hi guys,

I just joined the forums today.

My issue has to do with basically every internet browser I have and Nvidia Geforce Experience.  Whenever I open chrome and opera, both of them crash instantly.  Additionally, whenever I open firefox and edge and go to certain pages such as get.adobe.com or opera.com/download, the websites crash.  On IE, it does basically the same thing; the only difference is that I go to the webpage it generally crashes on and it says IE stopped responding, but IE is still loading the webpages and I can still add a new tab!  Also, after getting an alert yesterday from Geforce Experience that a new video card driver was available, I clicked on the alert, only to have a window pop up saying that it crashed.  I tried to open Geforce Experience again.  Crashed again.

After trying to use a system restore point from October 18, 2016 (before I had this issue) I still had this problem.  A Microsoft support rep said that it is most likely a virus.  I did have trend micro officescan installed at the time, however, but i'm guessing some viruses can get past your security.

The only change I can remember is installing MSI Afterburner.  I may have downloaded a thing or two, but only used trusted sites to download from (Cnet, Opera, sourceforge).

As a last resort, I tried to used Darik's Boot and Nuke using a USB drive that I used Universal USB Installer with to put the DBAN iso on there... Read more

My computer started crashing when I would try to run Norton AV . Then it started crashing when viewing pictures and videos. Took to repair shop and they could only find some spyware. I told that that everything was backed up so to just refomat. They also tested my ram and said it was fine in the testing but suggested changing it if the problem continued. It started crashing agian soon after getting it home. I replaced my ram and it still crashes. However yesterday I did get a successful virus scan.. everything looked fine with that. It is and Asus bourd, AMD 2200, Win XP with all the current windows updates. Any help would be appreciated.

PS
I had this problem a year ago and it seemed that replaceing a ram stick fixed it. When researching that someone suggested it could be the cache on the mother board. Could that be possible?

next if there are any viruses that have been found you can then remove them
once done reboot and try scaning again but in normal mode to see if the problem has been fixed

This happened recently after my sister downloaded something from the internet, and when I opened the folder to transfer it to her flash drive, a notification popped up telling me that, "Windows Explorer has crashed," and then it restarts (not the computer, just explorer. It sort of "refreshes" the desktop), then loads, and then crashes again.

I can still use my laptop normally from adjacent accounts, and when I tried deleting the file (the source of all of this, I'm assuming) it says that I need the permission of my main account, even though this account that I am currently using is also and administrator.

Can someone give me a little help? If there is none to be found I can use this side account for a while until something can be done, but it is incredibly inconvenient.

I am using Windows 7 currently.

The computer is probably infected with a virus or other malware. Post this in the Virus and Malware Removal forum:

If any of you have a radeon card (might apply to nvidia cards too) and you have been experiencing random crashes to desktop / reboots / VPU Recover windows ...Go into you r bios and change the vid card core voltage to 1.7v, if 1.7 doesnt fucntion, use 1.8. That should fix 95% of all of you crashing problems.

I had tried everything to fix these crashes, formatting HD, reinstalling windows...I even bought a new power supply. None of it worked but since i switched to 1.7v I have had no problems in any games and no crashes at all. It was set to the default 1.64v unbeknownst to be.

Anyways if youve tried everything like me...give it a try I think that it will fix it.

A:A FIX for random game crashes and Vid Card crashes!

Ummmmmmmmm... I'm sceptical... I think voltages generally aren't meant to be messed with... if you do, just know that you may run the risk of frying your card...
...right??? not all cards run on the same voltage, and if it's supposed to run on something lower, it could get fried, right?? and then if it's supposed to run higher than that, MAYBE some bugs would get fixed, but wouldn't the card also run slower??

Which radeon card do you have anyway?

EDIT actually, it looks like the standard voltage for AGP cards is 1.5v... upping the voltage will (I believe) up performance a little, as well as heat generated. Too high a voltage, however, will result in BSODs and the like.

I looked through a few similar threads, but none seem to be the same problem, so here goes...

I recently bought a new computer with XP pre-installed. I installed Office 2000 professional. This worked fine on my old computer under 98, but now it has lots of problems. My fav program ever written, Photodraw crashes upon startup, Frontpage crashes on Saves and Excel does whatever the hell it likes with my data. All other programs work fine so I'm assuming its not the hardware that has the problem.

When I got the computer it had Word 2000 and Works Suite already installed. I didn't remove these before installing office.

I was going to uninstall Office [and Word] and Works and then try installing office again. Will I be wasting my time? Does anyone know what exactly is going on?

Thanks

XX Marc

Randomly when I am using my computer (Acer Extensa 5620Z laptop, Windows XP Pro SP2) I get the Microsoft Error report box saying Windows Explorer encountered a problem and needed to close and prompts me to send the error report to Microsoft. After I click Send or Don't Send (doesn't matter which one), I get another prompt saying Dr Watson encountered an error and needed to close.

Everything then locks up - Start Menu won't open and programs won't minimize or maxmize from the taskbar.

When this first happened I tried to use Task Manager to start explorer.exe again, it didn't work. I checked in the processes tab and explorer.exe was still listed. I tried to End Process on it and it stayed there. I then noticed that drwtsn.exe (might not be 100% correct) is listed, if I End Process on it, explorer.exe closes (Taskbar and start button dissapear) and I can then run explorer.exe again to fix it. Don't know if that helps at all.

I have run fullsystem scans with Windows Defender and Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 multiple times and both found nothing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
