Q: bios update with low battery indication

Getting (plugged in, not charging) message on my Inspiron 3551. I've tried all the suggested tricke unsuccessfully. I have the BIOS update but it will not load as long as the battery is less than 10%.
I have a UPS for security so does anyone know how I can perform the update without a charger battery?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,
A week or two ago, I started seeing a pop-up appear on my Inspiron screen (I run Windows 8). The pop-up said that the AC adapter was not recognized, and therefore, the battery would not charge. It was the same 65W adapter that came with the laptop. I hit F2 at startup to check the BIOS, and it said the adapter wasn't recognized. I decided to order a new adapter. While I waited for it to arrive, the battery gradually drained down, but the laptop continued to work while plugged in.
The new adapter came today, an official Dell adapter. I plugged it in... Same error message. Adapter not recognized.
I ran a check on the battery; the system says the battery is fine. I pulled the battery, and the laptop still worked via the adapter. I jiggled and checked all the connections. Couldn't find an issue and couldn't make it work.
I checked the BIOS version and date, and it's from 2013. Time for an update! I downloaded the latest version, but here's the problem: It won't install without the battery sitting at at least a 10% charge. The battery, of course, won't charge with either adapter (it's reading at 1% now). So I can't update the BIOS without some battery life, but I can't make it recognize the adapter and charge the battery without the updated BIOS (assuming that's even the problem, but I'm hopeful that's all it is).
If anyone has any suggestions for how I might make this work, I would very much appreciate it! Thank you!!!

A:Catch-22: No BIOS updated without battery, no battery life without BIOS update...

Please list Dell model number and version of windows. Ex: Dell Inspiron 3543, windows 10
If you don't know, type msinfo32 onto the search box, and then look for System model.....
In the meantime, please check the USB port, where the AC adapter is plugged into system, is loose. You could also wiggle the Adapter's end while checking it in the BIOS to see if the Adapter's type appears.

Hello

Okay, now I have this problem and I have been looking for how to fix this all across the internet. My battery indicator shows 0% constantly, even if i am on 100% charge. I got this problem this morning. I've tried to restart my computer several times, both with the battery charger plugged in and not plugged, I've also tried to remove the battery and see if that has an impact on this.

I havent had a problem like this before on my laptop. Sometimes when I boot up It will say 0% for some seconds right after I entered the desktop, but it always goes to the correct charge. I've had my laptop since the fall of 2009 and I have kept really good care of it. Always been transported in a neodynium pocket and I have always plugged out the computer when it has been turned off.

The charging works normally, but I won't see how much it has charged nor what the battery level is.

How can I fix this?

Now I have called Samsung technical assistance and they don't seem to have an answer to my problem either. I understand this isnt a crucial function for the computer to run, but this is extremely annoying and it limits my mobility

Is this be a hardware or a software fault? I

Hi, could anyone explain the battery status indication on the battery LED located on the top cover? Green light blinks in the sequence:3 short1 long1 shortthen goes off and battery does not charge My adapter sometimes works well and sometimes not with this indication and I need to know where the problem is. I travel a lot and connect to various voltages incl. using the 12V DC cigarette lighter adapter. I realized that this probably happens with a bad voltage on the primary side of it (voltage or current capacity not sufficient?). This indication is not described in https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/pd025118. I recon that the post https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X220-won-t-start-up-blinking-battery-light/td... refers to the same indication.

I've tried many times to install the latest critical BIOS update, using Lenovo System Update, and every time it attempts to, it fails after telling me in a popup that I need to turn the system off and make sure I have a fully charged battery. I rarely rely on battery power and use AC primarily, and I used Power Manager twice to do a full reset, just in case. I can't believe I would need to buy a new battery in order to install it, because the battery works just fine. I'm running Windows 7 (64-bit), and exhausted every other update or option, unless there's something else I'm not aware of. Is it just the software toying with me?

Hi
I want to update my BIOS
But it says that power supply AND battery must be plugged.
My battery died long time ago. So I had to pull it out, otherwise the laptop did not start.

What can I do to update the BIOS anyway?
How long will the update take? I know there is a risk if suddenly there is a power outage, which happens quite often. But if it just takes a couple of minutes, I might take the risk.
Thanks

"The AC adapter and battery must be plugged in before the system BIOS can be flashed.
Press OK when they are both plugged in or CANCEL to quit"
Clicking OK simply just re-pops the dialog.
Does anyone know of a workaround?

Hello All

I have just received an additional battery I ordered for my Dell C840 Laptop. It is a high power, longer life battery than the one supplied with the unit, and I bought it at what I felt was a reasonable price off a UK supplier on eBay. It duly arrived sealed in its wrapping next day.

However, it comes with a Dell labelled original wrapped (unopened) CD entitled "Dell BIOS Upgrade".

Can an expert please advise as to:

1 - why this is needed.
2 - if I can simply plug the new battery in to use and charge it.

Many thanks...

Hello,I recently bought the pavilion x2 12 detachable b003tu. I was having a strange problem. When I fully charged the device, the battery reduced directly from 100% to 93% without the anything in between. I contacted Hp technical support. They gave me some intel driver updates and BIOS update. After doing that the battery issue was not resolved. However the battery backup drastically reduced by 2 hours. I did a factory reset and updated to my previous BIOS but the issue was not resolved. Now I am having another problem apart from the battery issue. Usually Microsoft downloads updates when the Battery Saver option is turned off. My battery saver option is turned off but then also when I open the Update page it says "Battery Saver option is turned on" and will update after the mode is turned off. The same message is displayed even when I plug in the power adapter. Hence Microsoft is unable to download any updates. Pls help.

When I go into the bios there is the following message:"Your battery is temporarily disabled. Please turn off your computer and try again when the unit is back to the operational temperature". The machine has been left off for many hours now and is very cool to the touch however the battery wont engage and the issue persists between multiple battery packs (I have a backup battery too). As far as I can tell it is the bios that has broken my laptop and I am unable to fix it on my own. I have spent many hours trying to fix the issue at this point, following all of the advice that I can find on these forums. I suspect that either the bios has a bug or the laptop has a faulty sensor. Is anyone able to help?

Hello,a week ago I updated the BIOS of my Thinkpad T460 from Version 1.07 to 1.10 and then some time later I noticed that from there on the internal battery pack was discharged before the external one. Normally it has to be the other way round. In the beginning I couldn't imagine that it has something to do with the new BIOS but today I installed the old Version 1.07 again and now it works just like before the update and the battery packs are discharged in the right order.I heard also Lenovo engineers and programmers read in this forum and so I decided to write about this problem here. Maybe it's possible to fix this bug in Version 1.10 with a new BIOS-Update. 05-01-2016:Today I installed the update again to see if it's a problem which doesn't appear every time and at first it was just fine, the internal one was discharged at first then the external one followed. But when I started to charge my thinkpad I noticed that now it's just here the other way round, so the external battery pack was charged at first and not the internal one as it would be normal. So I think it's really a bug in T460 BIOS-Version 1.10 which affects the Battery-Management.

My computer is a year old. It was completely fine until I noticed it had stopped charging the battery. After some googling I found there might be a BIOS update I had missed. When trying to install the BIOS update I get a message saying I have to plug in my computer first (which it always is as the batter doesn't have a charge).

The BIOS update program says it wants to upgrade as follows:

BIOS Version : Current Ver.2.60 --> Updated Ver.3.20
EC Version : Current Ver.1.80 --> Updated Ver.1.90

OS: Windows 7
BIOS file I downloaded: bios-20110714132558

Is this a known issue with a fix available?

Hi

Are you sure that you have downloaded and used the right BIOS version!?
I read about the similar error message and finally the user used not compatible BIOS.

Furthermore the VAP (value added package) should be installed in order to update the BIOS!!! In you case I would recommend reinstalling this tool too.

But I?m not quite sure if BIOS update will help you to fix the battery issue?
Maybe you need to replace the battery?

Hi Lenovo Forum,I wanted to ask for help and advice on whether there is a need for my Flex 4 laptop to update its BIOS.It's my first time opening the Lenovo companion app that came with the laptop and I noticed that there is one critical update.  Here is the installation history: Here is the system info from the companion app Now my question is, do I have to update this or simply ignore it?Just to clarify, I'm not really a tech savvy person. I am unsure if this is safe or not. I read from other sites that updating the BIOS may have risks of bricking the laptop and make it unusable. So, I really need help if I should proceed with the update or leave as it is. The current situation right now is, everything seems to be working fine. I am near my warranty expiration. The only complaints that I have is that whenever I leave my laptop and set it to sleep by 11PM, I open it the next morning and the battery is all drained to 1%. This does not happen all the time, but for it may happen quite frequently. Here is my battery information And one other complain is that, even if I set it to sleep mode, sometimes, I do hear the laptop fan go really loud. I am also not sure why that happens. But I hope all my additional information would be helpful on determining if my computer has issues and if I do really need to update the BIOS. Any type of help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Also after decrease to %0 and  when I plug in the electricity, it wouldn't let me open computer at least 10-15 minutes. Then I started to search solutions. Good Evening All,

I having a problem with my Dell Latitude D610.

I went to update the BIOS and it said that the battery is not installed despite the laptop running solely off of battery power!

I have ran the dell device diagnostic and device manager and no issue appears to be with the battery. When you check the battery info in the BIOS settings it says the batteries are not installed and also when you log into XP it constantly says running off of AC power even when its not plugged in!

Any one got any ideas what could be causing this and how it can be solved?

Thanks Nick

A:Dell Latitude "battery not installed" preventing BIOS update

It may be referring to the CMOS battery which is wired to the computer beneath the keyboard. The battery can be replaced for $8.95 to $29.95 depending on where you purchase...

But regardless, you do have a problem that must be resolved. The D610 has been one strange little irrelevant problem after another... but you cannot afford to irritate it and have that mysterious unremovable password appear as it has on so many D610 and D620 Dells.

Hello to the BleepingComputer community,First of all I'm sorry I haven't finished some of the steps from the Preparation Guide. It's because these steps require a reboot (e.g. Step 6: Disable your CD Emulation Software - DeFogger will ask me to reboot the machine), and I have a bad feeling about the question if it is safe to reboot in my situation: I'm not sure if I have a type of malware which is ready to infect the BIOS - if it is so, then it could infect it much easier during the reboot process.- If there is a good way to find out what is the problem (and fix the BIOS threat part if it really is present) without rebooting / shutting down this PC, or at least without booting from this hard drive (which I feel is probably infected), then please tell me what should I do.- If you know a place / forum where I can get a specialized help for this (seemingly BIOS-malware related) situation, please tell me where I could go.- If there is no way to move forward, I'll go ahead and risk the reboot, and follow the other steps (steps 6 to 10) in the Preparation Guide, no problem.I kindly ask you to please read below the details of the problem as it occured to me, and the things I have tried so far.The PC is AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core BE-2350 2.1GHz, Motherboard Biostar TA690G AM2 (with AWARD BIOS), 4GB RAM, 200GB SATA HDD, and an ASUS EAH4870 card added a few years ago. It's with WinXP SP3, AVG Free 2012, (standard) Windows Firewall, and it's behind a router.I ... Hello,

I'm.. experiencing the following problem..

DELL Inspiron 3537 . Battery not recognized
When loading: "WARNING: The battery cannot be identified.. strike F1 to continue.. F2 for setup...[...]"
In BIOS it says NON-DELL battery. Updated the BIOS to the last version available. Same issue.
In windows, on the right bottom side there is "Battery fully charged" - on plugged in mode obviously - if unplug its shuting down directly.
On Device Manager -> Batteries - I have both Microsoft ACI adapter and Microsoft ACPI- Compliant Control Method Battery, updated and enabled.  (disabled and re enabled - issue still present)
The led of battery is constantly going RED -WHITE - RED - WHiTE..
It all comes all of a sudden..after an windows update actually. Tried different versions of Windows, issue still present.

Waiting for an answer,
Thanks and regards,
Narcis Vasilache

I've found a fully and very easily reproductible battery drain issue (+2.5W consumption!) when not using "Connected Standby" sleep in windows 10.
Here is the detail :
- First, I don't use "Connected Standby" anymore as I've had many occurrences of the computer not going to sleep when closing the lid in "Connected standby" mode. To disable "Connected Standby", you've to put "CsEnabled" to 0 (instead of 1)  in \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Power.
- I use BatteryBar v3.6.6 to monitor power consumption in realtime (it works really well)
- The problem is the following : on my 9360 QHD+ with backling at 15%, when doing vitually nothing on Windows 10, the power consumption is between 3000 and 4000 mW when I cold start Windows 10. Then, if I close the lid for a few seconds (to put the computer to sleep) and open it up again, the consumption is then between 5500 and 6500 mW. No matter the number of times I re-close/re-open the lid, I then never can have between 3000 and 4000 mW again. The overconsumption is about 2500 mW compared to the normal initial power consumption
- This problem never happened with BIOS 1.0.7, I tried it dozens of time on different units of 9360
- The problem appeared with BIOS 1.2.3 and is now still present in 1.3.2
- The problem is clearly linked to the Thunderbird BIOS update that occured in BIOS 1.2.3. If I disable the Thunderbird port in BIOS 1.3.2, I have no batte... Read more

Hello, Lenovo Community, I recently tried updating my battery's firmware. It was going smoothly for about one minute until my charger disconnected and my laptop's battery died and will not charge. My charger has a long history of automatically disconnecting (two blinking lights, one white and one orange) so I cannot power my laptop through the charger itself. I really don't want to get the port checked, so I am looking to see if there are any other ideas from the community.  Here is what's happening:-My charger disconnects everytime I try to boot now (used to disconnect before loading Windows 10)-My battery is disconnected from the system (electronically, not physically probably)-I really cannot power on the system.  Thank you, Lenovo Community!

I am dual booting Windows 10 and Linux (Ubuntu 17.10). I was on Windows 10 when I was updating my battery firmware using the Lenovo Battery Firmware Update Tool. It prompted me to update my battery and I confirmed and clicked next. Immediately, my screen turned black. I waited 10 minutes and then did a force shutdown on the computer by holding the power button. Now my battery won't charge. It is an official 55+ Lenovo battery and last week Ubuntu's acpi said that the battery was at 67% capacity and could run on battery for an hour and a half at full charge. Now all of a sudden, after the failed firmware update, my battery will not charge: whether the laptop is on in Windows 10, on in Ubuntu, or while the computer is turned off and plugged. When I do connect the AC cord the battery indicator blinks with a steady green, to a stready orange, to a rapid orange, and then off within a span of ~10 seconds. I have tried deleting the battery drivers on Windows and restarting and it does not work. I have also tried to update the battery firmware again using the Lenovo Update Firmware Tool but it repeatedly gives me the same error "The tool was unable to update the battery firmware due to an internal error." I have also updated to the latest BIOS to no avail.

My Samsung series 3 laptop has been sending out popup messages telling me I need a bios update, I go to the Samsung software update site and this bios update has been failing, I have made several calls and chats to techs at Samsung who tell me to do what I have already done, they tell to ask for tier 2 tech, who can go in my computer and fix it , When I finally got a tier 2 tech, they told me the same thing, I told him what I had been told about him and what he could do, He said, is it working , I said yes, but settings on computer change on their own, like wifi turns itself on and that concerns me. Anyway, He said that it didn't need a bios update, even the Samsung website said this computer needed a bios update. I posted this on hardware, firmware concerns, and they told me to post here, I was going to go to a site ,that had a download that checked drivers, I was told to stay away from this.

Thanks,
Jim

Are you getting a direct link from the notification update? Can you post the link/site next time?

Hey everyone, i have been receiving the "Your battery is temporarily disabled" notification after the laptop randomly turns off. Getting it started again is easy, all i have to do it disconnect the battery and reconnect it and it starts. However at first it might happen once a month, then once a week, now it's a few times a day and even within a few minutes of resetting it, it can happen. It's random at the moment, but it won't last more than a day, typically no less than a few hours before turning off.
So far i have replaced both the AC Adaptor and Battery, and i switch between the 2 with no improvements. I have updated the BIOS, and i also uninstalled the battery drivers, but not the AC driver (it wasn't suggested but i might try it anyway). Still no luck.
Any ideas?
