Back button returns me to wrong place

Q: Back button returns me to wrong place

This may sound trivial, but it is annoying. I have a new Lenovo T400 laptop. When I have a search results page up such as a Google search page or Craigs List and I select a listing say in the middle of the page or so, click it, view the selection and the hit the "back arrow" it will return me to the begining of the page, not to the originally selected item. My last two laptops and my desktop return me to the original selection wherever it was on the page. Is there a search setting I'm missing somewhere or what. My new laptop version is XP PRO, Windows 8. My last two laptops where Vista Home Windows 7 and my desktop is XP and Windows 7.
Any help would be appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am having an issue with EXCEL when using vlookup. My lookup value is based on a fraction and sometimes it will return to contents of the wrong row. At first, I thought that it was an issue with the fraction however, I have six sheets with the same lookup equations and some sheets return correct data while others do not. Any ideas?

my questions are 2:
1-sometimes i saw a file that is hidden and can not uncheck the hidden of its(see the picture below)

how can we do this with a file?
2- how can we returns this file back to unhidden?

A:hidden files than can not returns it back

When the option to hide/unhide a file is greyed out, that is usually means that the file has the S (system) attribute set.

If the file is truly a system file, then you should not remove the S attribute.

My parents are having trouble with their computer wherein while they are web browsing or composing an email, their browser (Internet Explorer) will go back to their homepage. I've remotely gotten into their computer using Teamviewer software and ran an Avira Scan and a Malwarebyte Antimalware scan. Those two scans produced PUP.MyWebSearch and also Trojan.FakeAlert.ASCGen. I deleted those and ran new scans and they didn't find anything again, although this problem is still happening. Does anyone have any ideas? Here are the requested scan logs...oops, except I see I forgot to save the "attach" file from DDS. I can get it and add it to the post soon....

i guess i'm newer than i thought i was......a friend gave me a new monitor that is larger than my old one....so i have a lot of black screen ......wish i could fix this...if someone could help or redirect me, i would appreciate it....thank you

A:may be in the wrong place

The monitor you have now, as the old monitor you had, should have some buttons or knobs on the front of it. These are used to resize the image, adjust it's position etc. Try them out looking for the obvious such as a knob with an image that looks like it will stretch it etc. Also, you might want to adjust your settings to a different resolution. For example: 800X600, 1024X768 etc. To do that, just right click on an empty space on your desktop, select PROPERTIES, then left click on SETTINGS, then move the slider under SCREEN AREA. Hope this helps, T.

I find this really odd since I had no trouble re-install win xp in the past and I have a friend who has trouble reinstalling it. At first, he completed the installation and the computer restarted itself and then it went back to Window XP setup all over again. I assumed this that the dvd is still inside during start up and it would have automatically load it. I asked him to turn off the boot sequence for dvd and he said he did. Then other option I asked him to try take out DVD before startup, he did and it still went back to Window XP set up. Have any of you ever encounter this problem before?

I am new here and I decided to start reading daily posts of different kind of problems so I can keep up with it and be able to fix things with my own knowledge.

Could anyone tell me the best utility for fixing the registry/broken links/shortcuts etc in XP Home. My computer has become quite slow and I think I may have a lot of rubbish cluttering up the system.I do tend to trial a lot of progs and then uninstall them.

A:This question may be in the wrong place

Personally I would not 'fix' anything in the Registry. Yes there may be a few broken links but they will be taking up minimal space and will probably not cause your system to slow down that you would notice.. Better to defrag your hard disc and run something like Cleanup! to clear out your temp files etc.

I got broadband last week and we're only allowed 2GB monthly usage limit (hehe, well it is cheap). I was wondering if streaming videos counts towards this, like does it take up disk space? And is there any chance of viruses? Thanks, pretty random, but I'd like to know.

A:ok this is probably the wrong place, but...youtube

Yes that will count towards your 2GB monthly allowance...everything you get from the internet will count (emails, webpages, videos, music etc).

It does take up disk space but once you clear your temporary internet files, that will solve the problem.

As with the risks of internet use, there is a chance of picking up spyware/viruses by downloading content....but the chances are far less with reputable sites.

Hope that helps :)

A friend has just created a new subdomain of his existing site. If I go to http://www.newsubdomain.existingsite.com, I see the host's generic "new site will be available soon" message. BUT if I go to http://newsubdomain.existingsite.com (that is, the same address, but without the leading "www."), I wind up on the site for some perfectly innocent-looking automotive specialty parts distribution company. (It looks like they mostly sell to retailers, not the public, so it makes no sense at all for them to be complicit in this apparent hijacking, although someone could have put something malicious on their site, I guess.)My computer is a laptop running WinXP Pro. AVG, spybot and Ad-aware scans find nothing amiss. The machine has no other symptoms of any kind of infection, afaict. The problem shows up regardless of whether I use Firefox or IE, but another machine on my home-network does NOT have this problem, so I know it's not a case of my ISP's DNS cache having been poisoned. I did run ipconfig /flushdns from a command prompt; that didn't fix it.Could this just be some simple corrupted record somewhere, or must we conclude a malware infection?TIA!!!

I have WINDOWS XP, and can't figure out what other topic this question might belong in...

I don't know when or how it happened, but two file folders MY SHARED DOCUMENTS and CARRIE'S DOCUMENTS are now in MY COMPUTER.

MY COMPUTER, where it shows the drives. I am pretty sure it never had yellow folders in it before.

I think they should be in C DRIVE? There is a MY DOCUMENTS in C Drive, but it has nothing in it. I'm the only one who uses this computer, but apparenty everything saved goes into CARRIE'S DOCUMENTS. SHARED DOCUMENTS has various folders in it that I suppose would be shared by all, if others used the computer, too.

I've tried dragging them there (or anywhere) but only shortcuts appear in the new area. The folders still say in MY COMPUTER. They won't copy and paste.

When I open something, like in WORD, etc. I can still find them, just they are under MY COMPUTER.

So, they still work, it just seems strange, like they shouldn't be in MY COMPUTER. Unless I have totally missed this for the past year, I don't remember ever seeing them in there before. I take pictures off my memory card with a removable drive, which shows up as F drive, so I look in MY COMPUTER to click on this, all the time.

What happened and how can I fix it? Actually, since it seems to work this way, the only reason to fix it seems to be it looks odd this way.

Hi, has anyone ever experienced this, in Win XP?

I'll try to explain the best I can... my father (on his computer), was playing around with his taskbar putting it on the sides to see if he'd like there, I guess...

Now he's got repeats of his icons from the desktop sitting on his taskbar, fullsize. We tried to delete them, but if we did, they would also delete the twin that's on the desktop. I found this too be so weird, his taskbar is now about an inch and a quarter high, and we could not reduce it.

Has anyone ever seen such a glitch?

I don't think a restore would do anything, it being icons...

if i try open AVG it gets as far as the grisoft opening page then shuts down before i can do anything, same with system restore, if i click that it tells me it has been switched off through group policy and to contact administrator, for which i have administrator rights on this pc.

i can open every window from control panel, except administrative tools, if i try it just shuts the window down totally, this even happens if i boot up into safe mode, nothing that i know of will help, but then i'm not a pc whizz-kid!!

Basically, when i'm surfing the internet or playing a game. My computer screen freezes which then results in me 'Ctrl+Alt+Delete'ing which then makes the screen black out and then brings it back to its normal state.
I was wondering if its due to an overload in my Hard-drive(90% full) or the fact i have a low amount of RAM. Any advice given into what to do is very much appreciated. My spec is below;

Intel Pentium 4
Motherboard - ASUSTeK P4S800
RAM - 512mb
Graphics Card - Geforce 6800XT 256mb
80gb Hard-drive

A:Computer screen freezes, blacks out and then returns back to normal

Clean the hard drive of important data and only run what you need. An 80GB drive should be plenty if you watch what you are storing on it. Videos and games take up a lot of hard drive space. I run 2 drives. A 400GB and a 250GB. Bump your memory to 1GB

I work in Tech Support for an instrument company and have had some recent calls that are baffling to me.

All of the behavior I'm describing below is from Win 7 users, Professional or Ultimate and all (so far) have been 64-bit.

Whenever a caller complains about connection issues, I'll have them verify a few things through their "Devices and Printers" screen. Then I ask them to re-load/update the device driver. This means double-clicking on the device, Hardware tab, Properties, Driver tab, Update Driver.

On a large amount of callers having troubles, the "Update Driver" button is greyed out and we are not allowed to re-load/update the device driver.

If I take them to Device Manager, Ports, double click on the port# of the device, then Driver tab, the "Update Driver" button is *not* greyed out. We then can attempt to re-load/update the driver as we see fit.

Unfortunately, re-loading/updating does not always fix the problem with people who have this type of condition present in their computer. It is interesting that computers that do allow driver re-loading/updating through Device and Printers have a much higher success rate.

So now I'm trying to determine why some computers are this way.

This brings up a few questions:

Why is "Update Driver" not accessible through the Devices and Printers but it is through Device Manager?

I realize that some IT departments may have these computers constrained ... Read more

For some time now I have had no sound. I think I might have plugged the sound connector into the wrong hole. On the back of my Dell Dimension #2350 PC are 3 holes (one pink, one light blue and one real dark blue). I currently have it plugged into the pink hole & was wondering if I should try one of the other two.

Have I got it connected in the right hole now or would I hurt anything by moving it to one of the other two holes?

I am a beginner and would really appreciate any suggestions and/or help as I really miss the sound, especially on e-mail cards I receive.

A:Have I Got Sound Connected In Wrong Place?

It would not hurt the computer or your speakers to plug it into the other holes.

Make sure your speakers are plugged into the wall (if they are that type of speaker), make sure they are turned on! And turned up! Put in some music, play it, and then plug the speakers into the different ports and see if they work.

If they still don't, let us know and one of us can walk you through it!

I can't say without seeing the release notes on the bios update, Generally they will only fix one problem at a time. Often it's compatibility for hardware that you may not even have. Meaning you will be unaffected by the update at all.

To put if breifly I was wiping the cmos after some trouble I'd had with my PC, I got distracted and when I went back I powered up the computer with the cmos jumper still in the wipe position. It won't boot to windows and seems pretty messed up, anybody know if how I could get around this?? I'm I right in thinking I could flash the bios, I haven't personally done that before so if somebody could speak me through what to do I'd be most appreciative...

Thanks in advance,

I've installed a windows to go on my USB driver. It works well, but only doesn't work on my own home computer.
The symptom is that it will boot from my hard drive(I've already set the BIOS to boot from USB drive).
I've checked the BCD file in my USB drive, it's normal when booting from other computers. But on my home computer, it will be replaced by another file, which contents are exactly same as BCD file on my hard drive. I don't know why.
So it there anyone who knows about the boot process of windows to go? And how could i solve this problem?

I have a Dell Dimension 4600 with Windows XP Pro. I have just changed my email host to lunarpages.com, and configured a new (IMAP) account in my email client Outlook Express per lunarpages instructions. I am able to send and receive emails, but the sent mails are being saved in the ‘Sent Items’ folder in Local Folders rather than in the IMAP account. Anybody know how to make them appear in a ‘sent items’ folder in the IMAP account? I’d ask tech support at lunarpages, but they’re gone until Tuesday.

I'm trying to use robocopy for mirroring my most important files between two computers. Except for one issue, it works as expected.

I'm trying to copy the complete "Documents" directory. Previously, this was called "My documents" and contained for example "My pictures". Now it doesn't, and I like that, but robocopy don't. Somehow it still searches for these directories, and of course can't find them. Seems robocopy needs a fix, or am I missing out on something here?

A:Robocopy looking for my directories in the wrong place

When I use robocopy, I use it in a text based batch file. So, as long as your paths are correct in the batch file it should go exactly where you tell it to. I haven't noticed any issues doing it this way with Windows 7.

I've set up a back up batch file to copy my Documents, Pictures, Music, and Videos folders from my computer to an external hard drive.
However, while running the Documents backup, it seems to find, the pictures, music, and videos folders all inside the documents folders labelled "My Music", etc.
However, these folders do not exist. When I navigate in explorer to C:\Users\username\Documents\ I cannot find a folder labelled "My Music". When I try to navigate to C:\Users\username\Documents\My Music it tells me that "access is denied". I cannot find them through command line either.
As well, when I try and find the folders on the backup drive, they do not seem to be there either.
I just don't understand where this is coming from.

It sounds like you are running foul of junction points. You may need to use the /XJ switch.

Post your BAT code here, and I'll take a look at it for you.

Yesterday on my W10 PC, when I click the FILE EXPLORER button in my task bar I got random results. Same today. Sometimes it would start normally and show me all the computer, folders, etc.
Other times it would show me this - see below. Then take 5 mins to open.
Also in a directory full of photos it would show thumbnails of the first 50% and the rest would be missing.
Never seen this before. Any suggestions?

Can you tell me the reason and how to fix it.

A:Excel 2007 right data wrong place

Well, first we would have to know what the wrong place is.
- Are macro's being used
- Formatting
- etc.
