I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello everyone, hopefully someone here has some Linux experience and can help with my networking problems. I have a fileserver running Linux on my home network. It uses openssh for ssh and samba for local file sharing. I just installed Vista Ultimate x64 on a separate computer and cannot connect to it. I can connect to the fileserver through samba from another computer on the same network running XP as well as from OS X. I can connect to the computer with XP from Vista, but can't discover the Linux computer. I can ssh from the computer running OS X to the Linux computer but PuTTY just time-outs when trying to connect from Vista. I can ping every other computer on my network that is running a form on windows, but I cannot even ping the Linux box. I disabled the windows firewall temporarily to remove it as a cause. Since I cannot even ping the Linux computer, I think that is the main issue and ssh and samba should probably work once that is resolved. Oh yeah, I also changed the Network security policy to "LM and NTLM – use NTLMV2 session security if negotiated". I am using Samba >3.0 which has support for ntlmv2, but I changed it anyway.
All of the computers are wired, except for the one running OS X. If I forgot any other detail, let me know.

I was considering getting away from using Microsoft Operating Systems little by little. I want to convert a Windows 98 SE laptop to a Linux laptop. The laptop has a Belkin wireless card attached to it. I would have the driver software for the Belkin card, but it's only for Windows OS. Also, I would like to know how I could get the laptop to share a printer with my Windows XP desktop if I converted it to a Linux platform.

Hi,My brand new Yoga 720-15 IKB doesn't connect to my workplace wifi network which is a Mikrotik network. It does though connect to my home network or a mobile hotspot and works fine with them. I have installed all Windows 10 updates and Lenovo Companion updates. I have manually updated wifi card driver, I have also tried deleting network card and installing it again - but no success. Still doesn't connect to this one particular network in my workplace. To make it stranger my coworker has the same brand new Yoga 720, the only difference is that mine Yoga is grey and his is platinium color. We discovered also that two, supposedly the same computers  have different network cards (he has Intel, I have Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4A. This is a bit weird).I have also found out his Yoga connects easily to VPN at our workplace, my doesn't.Any ideas how to solve it? EDIT: my current network card driver is

I have a hosted Linux server running CentOS 5 with Samba 3.4. Everything is setup and it is accessible via Linux machines by typing smb://ip.address/ in a Firefox address bar. I am trying to set up a local network share on a Windows 7 Home Premium x64 SP1 computer.

I am trying to map the shared drive as a network drive and am having issues. Google provided a wide range of solutions, and thus far nothing has worked.

I have tried entering the IP address in 2 locations:
1. Map Network drive. I select a drive letter and type in the ip \\12.345.678.9\
It asks for credentials and I enter the user info for the user I created on the Linux machine. It thinks a moment then pops back up asking for credentials. It doesn't say they are invalid, just never goes through.
2. Connect to a website (under Map Network Drive). I type the IP http://12.345.678.9 and click connect and it pops up a dialog saying "The folder you entered does not appear to be valid. Please choose another".

I have tried creating a loopback adapter and trying to setup a connection via SSH using the guide found at http://www.nikhef.nl/~janjust/CifsOverSSH/VistaLoopback.html. After completing the tutorial (substituting my server IP address for the destination address given) I try using the Run dialog as indicated and get a "Windows cannot connect to.." error and the diagnose connection button. One thing that may be causing problems there is that the loopback adapter is labeled as an unidentified net... Read more

Hi, Can't get connected to my WiFi network with my new notebook (Windows 10). Sometimes it gets connected, but disconnection soon will follow. I don't understand this. All the other devices around here, like phones en tablets, work without any problems. It's only this new laptop that finds problems in connecting. That means if connected wireless. Via cable there's no problem at all. Following messages appear while trying to find the problem:Which is strange, cause all cables are connected... And even more strange: our router is a Cisco and not a Thomson. What do we not get??  Which is strange, cause there is an account, that works with all other devices. Can somebody help me out in this? Thank you...

I am not being able to connect to any of the wifi networks. When I try to connect it keeps saying "Can't connect to this network". I've tried searching solution for this in eightforum and Google but none worked. Things I did:
Forget network & tried reconnecting

Uninstall/Reinstall/Update Network adapter drivers
Clean install windows 8

The last time I was able to connect to the network was a week ago.

I found that when I turn on hotspot in my android smartphone, my laptop gets connected to it. But I can't connect to any other wireless networks.

So guys can you help me resolve it?

Not sure if this the right place to ask but I need some help.

Okay for some reason I am unable to connect to my wifi network. It was working fine Monday morning before I left for work, but when I came back I got a message saying cannot connect. Everyone else's laptops and tablets are working just fine. It is just my laptop. I've been trying to fix it for the past few days but I've gotten nowhere. I tried everything I know to do.
I tried:
Trouble shooting.
Resetting & unplugging the router.
Bringing back my laptop to an earlier date.
Checked & changed the wifi name & password.
I tried upgrading to windows 10 though I went back to 7 when it didn't work.
I even reset my laptop to its factory settings.

When I trouble shoot I get the following messages:
Cannot connect
Try unplugging the router for 10 seconds and try again
Cannot connect to hidden network (it's not hidden, I been to the little router modem page for it and it says it is not my laptop just thinks it is. Plus I can see it in my connection network list.)

My laptop runs fine for the most part and it can connect via cable, but I have to stay in the kitchen which is inconvenient for everyone. My laptop is quite old though at least 5 or 6 years. Might I need to buy a new one? I'd rather not if I can avoid it since like I said for the most part my laptop works fine.

My computer is having trouble connecting to one single wifi network. I have other devices connected to the network, so I know it works, my laptop won't connect, though. I thought Windows 8 may have been the problem, but it will connect to any other wifi but this one. I looked through this thread http://forums.techguy.org/networking/1027100-laptop-wont-connect-one-particular.html but it wasn't particularly easy for me to understand.

I have already done the easy troubleshooting steps, such as turning airplane mode off/on, forgetting the network and re-signing in, etc.

Anyways, I have win7 on my pc. I kept it on the other night and went off to bed. Next day I go to work and come back at night, I see my comp can't connect to the wifi which it is supposed to. So I went on to restore it thinking it'll solve the problem which it should have but again it didn't. I thought I didn't have a good restore point so I reinstalled a fresh copy of win7 on my pc but still the comp doesn't connect to the wifi.
I live in a student house, there are eight of us and no one is having a problem like me.
What changed that day was during the time i was out my friends brought the router on the first floor from the basement which is infect closer to my room. I have no problems connecting my phone to the wifi and I reinstalled the whole is on my pc so I don't seem to figure out what could be the problem.

I have two computers: a desktop with no WiFi (Ethernet only) and a laptop (Ethernet and WiFi).

Using Ethernet on both computers I am able to see and share files both ways and all works perfectly. Using WiFi on the laptop I can connect with the desktop machine but not the other way around.

The diagnostics on the desktop computer report "One or more network protocols are missing on this computer. Windows Sockets registry entries required for network connectivity are missing." I've tried all the standard methods to resolve this issue but nothing works. In any case, surely if this were the problem I wouldn't be able to use the Ethernet connection and the laptop wouldn't see my desktop machine?

Disabling the Kaspersky antivirus/firewall makes no difference.

At wit's end! Can anybody help?

I am moving from Virgin Media to BT and will no longer be able to connect my PC directly into the service using a cable as the new router is in another part of the house.

My network adaptor is a realtek PCIe GBE family controller. I have downloaded the most recent drivers for this device. It occured to me that this device may not be a wifi adaptor, but I cant find anything to confirm that one way or the other on the web.

I suspect this is really simple and I am overlooking an obvious problem. Any help would be very welcome.

Often with that adapter you need the driver from the laptop manufacturer's web site.

I think that adapter is not compatible with WPA2. Try with no encryption and if that works then try WPA-PSK.

Hello, recently my father has had some trouble with every device he's been using, a laptop, a PC, and now his tablet cannot access to the wifi network. He only used them to watch youtube (due to an accident, he uses it to learn the language again). First it was the laptop, which was borrowed and had a password to access configuration so I couldn't check anything, we returned it, then an all-in-one PC, which worked fine for a month and suddenly it disconnected and cannot access to the network again, I'm now in another city so I can't personally check and try every solution, but we tried resetting the wifi adapter, all the network configuration through cmd, forgetting the network and trying to connect again, and.. I'm sorry, the windows helper, which of course asked to connect to the internet to solve connection issues. So we decided that we'll wait until I can think of something and he would be using youtube in his tablet (previously exclusively used for Duolingo), two days later the tablet can't access to the network.

So my questions would be ¿Is the network forbidding the devices? ¿Is it a simple configuration issue? ¿what can I do? and ¿Can the access to a website like youtube lock a device out of a regular home network? because when I was there I used youtube without any issue for a couple of weeks, my brother also used it, and my mother can connect with her phone.

As the title states, I have two Xbox Ones. One of them can connect to all 3 of our WiFi networks just dandy. And all the computers and cellphones that come and go through the house can connect just fine to our 3 separate WiFi networks, as well as a public one across the street.

For some reason, the other Xbox One absolutely will not connect to any of my WiFi networks or the public WiFi networks. Whenever I try, I get "DNS isn't resolving Xbox server names." I have been through every troubleshooting step possible, but it seems like it's something wrong with strictly this Xbox.

Ok guys, I have a home office, work for a large corporation but home based. I have my own broadband and seperate router for gaming, surfing etc.
I also have a dedicated works laptop, which also has a dedicated WIFI router for purely work stuff.

Previously, I made it impossible for my "work" router to connect to my "home" laptop, for obvious reasons.
However, a couple of weeks ago, I needed to do some trouble shooting, and allowed the home lap top to access my work network.
I switched it back, but forgot to inhibit the 2 from linking.

So today, I'm looking at some ahem.. porn, didn't think much about it. A few hours later, I realise I'm connected to the "work" network.

1)Is there a way to check in Windows 7 what router i was connected to at various times through WIFI?
2)Is it likely the ISP would advise my employer that I have looked at porn? - i didn't go through the work VPN, it's just a standard line from Zen into my house, by my company pay the bill direct.

appreciate any help!

A:WIFI - Which router / network did I connect to!

Read other 10 answers

Hi guys,
Let me explain my current situation before asking my question:
I have a Motorola Netopia7347-44 VDSL modem/router (with WiFi). The type of signal that I get from my ISP is analogue for phone, TV and intenet.
This modem has an input for the Internet connection (dynamic IP address) and provides the IP addresses and connection for the other devices connected to it (via WiFi or cable), such as the TV over IP box, laptops, iPads and smart phones.
I would like to implement content filtering on my WiFi network in order to avoid access to some websites, and my modem/router doesn´t provide this feature (or at least I can´t find it with my ISP´s configuration).

I thought about using OpenDNS, but since I have a dynamic IP address and I can´t install an updater on all the devices, then this solution didn´t work.

The next idea I have is getting a physical Firewall.
Question: I am wondering if I can just connect the Intenet cable (that comes from the splitter between phone and Internet) to the Firewall, then I connect a RJ-45 cable from the firewall to my existing modem/router and should that be all (besides configuring content filtering on the firewall)?

What should I take into account regarding the IP addresses? Should I enable the DHCP server in the firewall (I assume that most come with one), and disable the DHCP server in the modem?

Any guidance around this topic would be highly appreciated!!

A:How to connect firewall to my WiFi network

You seem to have the general idea. In fact, the idea would be to turn off DHCP on the old (wireless) router and enter the address of the new router as the old one's gateway. That's pretty much all it would 'generally' take. However, if you have VDSL, then you would need to purchase another VDSL router. In which case, you might as well just purchase one that has the wireless and not have to worry about all of the configuration issues.

However, I looked up the Netopia 7347-44 router and, from what I could find in the manual, it appears as though it does have a firewall already built into it. Check it out here: http://www.motorola.com/staticfiles/Video-Solutions/Products/Wireline%20Networks/Gateways_and_Routers/DSL_Gateways_and_Routers/7347-44_7357-44%20Netopia%20Voice%20Integrated%20Access%20Device%20Gateways/_Documents/_Static%20files/7347-44%20Data%20Sheet-556054-001-b.pdf Al right, that's not the *complete* manual, but it specifically states that it has 'Stateful Packet Inspection Firewall'. Might want to browse around in the router configuration utility and see what you can find.

If that's not your router, then you should be able to simply do as above and be good to go...

Good Luck!

A:Can't connect to Wifi on home network but everyone else can

I think its a security issue.
1) Check the password you put in and make sure its written correctly with the right case (lowercase/uppercase).
2) Disable any 3G/4G connections if you have any.

If that doesn't work giive me more information about your network:
1) General network layout (two computers, one laptop/one desktop, w/dsl modem to a residential gateway, etc)
2) Also, tell me what security mechanism you have on your wireless access point (WEP, WPA, WPA2). If you're using CCMP/AES and you have an older computer then you may not be able to use them together.

I've searched the web endlessly trying to solve this problem with one of my laptops - without any luck at all. Hoping someone here is able to assist.

My main PC, 2 laptops, an iPhone and an iPad all connect to my home wifi network. All worked perfectly until 3 days ago.

The 2 laptops and my PC all run Windows 8.1 (all updated). 3 days ago my Toshiba Qosmio stopped being able to connect to my home network. All other devices still connect perfectly.

The Qosmio doesn't detect my wifi network. I immediately went to the network adapter's (Qualcomm Atheros) website and downloaded the latest driver. Installed it and for a brief (very brief) time it could once again detect and connect to the network. Last 3 days unable to either detect or connect.

It detects other networks fine, and has no problems connecting to any other network - except mine (doesn't even detect mine anymore). It connects to the iPhone (when used as a hotspot) without any issues.

I've uninstalled and re-installed the new driver, re-booted the wireless router (several times), re-set the router to factory settings, used Windows trouble shooter, checked & deleted the netsh profiles. Re-booted the laptop a dozen + times, disabled (& uninstalled software) for the laptop's Bluetooth.

It simply stopped working.

I've tried everything I can find on the web - without any success at all. I've had the laptop sitting only a few cm from the router.
Not sure where else I can go with this now... Read more

What have I tried

router lights are on
pw is correct
wireless switch is on
What else can be done?

When I turn off the filter, the laptop connects immediately. That leads me to think that problem is a data entry error with the MAC address. To eliminate any possibility of error I cut and paste directly from what ipconfig reports as the MAC address for the wireless adapter. See below for details:

Yesterday my WiFi went out and I am trying to figure out why. Short summary:
Windows 10, never had any connectivity issues
Landlord has the router (Fios)
I have an Optimum Cable account if I need a WiFi back up or WiFi on the go.
The hardware to connect to WiFi are
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0053GR2YI?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00 (primary adapter)
I have had the two adapter set up for a while now and never had an issue with conflicting hardware issues.
I have used the Fios router ever since I moved in the place using both Windows 7 and 10 with no issues. However, now I cannot connect to either the Fios and Optimum accounts anymore.
I have disabled all adapters and enabled one at a time, nothing. I have uninstalled all adapters, rebooted the PC and reinstalled, nothing.
I have physically taken the adapter out of the PC and reinserted the card, nothing.
I have moved the antenna adapter to different USB slots, nothing.
I do not have access to the Fios router, so I cannot to a hard reset.
I do not have an ethernet connection.
I did not receive any Avast! alerts at all before or after the disconnect.
Landlord said he did not change any of the Fios settings, including the passcode.

I am at work and will not be able to do any fixes until I get home tonight. I have run out of ideas. Whe I get home I will run a visus scan and Malware Bytes scan j... Read more

hello, im running 64 bit on a dell studio 1555 and i setup an ad-hoc network to use my computer as a temporary router. After setting this up and using it for a day i'm unable to connect to any router. I've since deleted the connection and tried restarting my network adapter and rooting around to find anything out of place but can't. any help would be appreciated!

A:Can't connect to wifi after creating adhoc network

I can also add that it does connect to routers, but as local only, and always shows up as unidentified.

Hi, Here is the story of my long struggle with this issue.

I have a Lenovo T520 and installed Windows 8 little over two months ago. After the upgrade I started having trouble connecting to different wireless networks ( ATT Uverse at home, Verizon Jetpack 4620LE, Verizon Pantech UML 290 and wifi networks at Starbucks). I can see the SSID but when I try to connect it, it says "verifying and connecting" and errors out. All these wireless networks work perfectly ok with rest of my devices (Windows 7 laptops, MacBook Air, Pro, Tablets etc)

However my windows 8 laptop is able to connect to the two wireless network at work, one is internal and one public wifi for guests. The only difference is our corporate wifi uses Radius servers for authentication where as rest of the wireless networks don't. Here's what I have done troubleshooting this issue so far.

1. Completely wiped the drive and reinstall the OS. Tried connecting to the wireless network with the default drivers and the same issue happened.
2. Downloaded the latest drives for the Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 AGN from Intel's website and tried connecting to the wireless network. Same error again !.
3. Called Verizon to see if there was a problem on their end. Reset the two Verizon 4G cards to factory settings, updated firmware's and tried connecting. Same error.
4. Called ATT and same steps and no luck.
4. Changed Wireless Authentication Type from "WPA2" to "WPA", "WEP" and tried co... Read more

Hi all

I have a home network set up, sharing the broadband connection successfully throughout the house via a Linksys broadband router. We have four laptops, and two desk based machines and each can connect to the internet without issue.

On one of the desk based PCs I have a Laserjet HL5150D connected and shared. The PC it is connected to runs XP Home SP1 edition.

I can connect and print to this printer from all machines except my wife's new Sony Vaio laptop. When I try to add a network printer, and browse the windows network it simply doesn't find it at all. Whereas I am on my dell laptop and can search and locate the printer without issue.

The Sony Vaio can connect to the net without issue, is only a few months old and is running running XP Home SP2, my Dell is running XP Pro SP2.

Is there anything I might be missing here that an expert could advise on please...?

Thanks all...

I run a church network as a service, they currently have one server and 9 clients, everything runs pretty smoothly, the server is using ip scope 172.17.9.x , the server ip is , the gateway being As long as everyone is connected to LAN, everyone on the client pc's can see the server as intended. However, anyone connected to wifi, which is IP, and is handing out 192.168.1.x addresses, can not see the server. They are unable to remotely connect, or set up a network drive. How can I go about fixing this?

I am unable to get my laptop to connect to the internet when my wifi network has any type of security option or authentication selected. i want to password protect my network and it shows that the network name and passphrase i selected are correct on the router setup page. I can connect to wifi just fine when there is no authentication set on the network, but when I change it to WPA2 or WEP or any type of security on the router setup page, my laptop is able to find the network and connect with local only access. it gives me the option to reset the network adapter or generate a new ip address, but the problem still persists, and the connection only works when there is no password. is it my laptop or the router that is the problem. it has worked previously with a different router with password security.

can we have the wireless adapter make and model - will be in ipconfig /all

Post an ipconfig /all

also have a read about a particular issue we are seing on vista with an AR5007 type adapter - which may apply if its the same adapter and you are on vista

ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results in a reply here

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results to notepad and then automatically open notepad.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results to a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will be highlighted
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy
Now go back to the forum - reply and then right click in the reply box and paste

Hello, new to the forum and relatively tech-newb.
I got a new DSL connection in my apartment today. Router was set up fine and most devices are working (my iPhone, my friend's laptop and my old laptop). However I can't seem to connect to WIFI with my primary laptop (Windows 7).
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the network drivers.
I tried turning off the router and turning on again.
I also tried resetting the TCP/IP stack with "netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt" and restarting. (Not entirely sure what that does but I read it somewhere). No improvement.
I can provide two ipconfig logs. The first one is from my old laptop which is successfully connected to the WIFI network:

i've had a wifi network set up at my house for several months now, and no problems. if i couldn't connect...i always just unplugged the router for 10 seconds, and was able to connect. well, suddenly today...i can't connect to the internet, but my wifi network appears to be fine. it's says i have excellent signal strengh and that i'm connected..but i can't connect to the internet. when i go to the program that came with the router..and hit "repair"..it says that i AM connected to the network, but that my internet connection is broken...??? what UP with that??? i don't get it. can someone please advise on what to do? i tried using another device to see if i could connect with internet, my ipod touch....and it also said that i was connected to the wifi network...yet it could not connect with the internet. it never had a popup that said anything..it acted like it was trying to connect..but just never did. i'm puzzled.

during the day while i was at work, my roommate was going to use the laptop, when she couldn't connect, she did the unplug for 10 sec. thing...whent that didn't work, she unplugged the two cables from the back of the router, and plugged them back in. is it possible that she plugged them into the wrong place? would that be the problem? i am not at home right now, so i can't check...but will try to fix this when i get home tomorrow. not sure what i need to do!!

I have a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.8.5. My ISP is BT Vision so have a open reach fibre modem and a BT HomeHub. All my other wifi devices (iPhone 4S, 5S and Ipad 3) connect to my home network and internet first time every time! However, my MacBook is extremely temperamental.

When the laptop does connect to the internet it takes a random combination of restarting and turning the wifi on and off. If the laptop is left to connect on its own it either takes an extended period of time (30mins) or it simply won't connect. I have looked through the wifi settings but can't see any reason why the laptop won't connect. The wifi network is visible all he time.

Any ideas?

Hey guys i'm having similar troubles here. friends laptop is unable to connect to a network through wifi. it will connect to internet but only through cable hookup. i can locate my network but when i hit connect (type in correct password) it tries for say 1-2 seconds then says "Windows was unable to connect to *my network*" i know its not my router (i have several things that can connect to my network without problems.) only this laptop seems to have a problem. she has a ralink wifi adapter which is said to be notorious for going bad, but i can neither conform or denai that. i'll list what specs i know how to find and hopefully that will help. any help from you all would be great. also if you need me to post some data could you explain how to find it and the like. thanks.
