USB Extension Cable not recognized

Q: USB Extension Cable not recognized

I am trying to use a USB Extension Cable that is a Type A-A/M-F Cable. Each time I plug a device to the cable, I get a message that says USB device not recognized. I have tried plugging in a flash drive as well as a digital camera and nothing seems to work. Is there a driver that will allow this cable to be recognized that I'm not finding? Please help!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: USB Extension Cable not recognized

No, no driver. You may wish to return the cable for a different one or try a powered USB hub instead of a simple extension.

My problem is that I Have a wireless adapter hooked onto the end of 2 usb extension cables that have their own power supply, so its not a problem of range. I've had it set up like this for two months, where the wireless adapter was set on the end of the 2 usb extension cables, and it worked just fine.

I have a Linksys Wireless A/G USB Network Adapter

http://www.amazon.com/Linksys-WUSB54G-Wire...r/dp/B00009X6PH

Now suddenly I wake up one morning to find the message "USB Device not recognized." This only happens when I have the wireless adapter plugged into the two cables. I have tried plugging it into each of the different cables seperately, and it wont work on either cable, as well as working off the end of both cables. When I just plug it in straight into the computer it works fine. Any other USB device I plug into these cables works fine, weather it be a webcam etc. Just the combo of my Wireless adapter and my extension cables doesn't work. What do I do? But yeah if I have to buy something so be it, I'm just not sure whats wrong in this case. I've tried the most obvious means of solving the problem, simply restarting the computer, unplugging the device and plugging it back in etc. I've tried reinstalling the drivers on both the cables and the device, nothing seems to work. I don't understand it at all.

Thanks,
Acton

A few days ago I saw a computer in a Popular Mechanics that was build into a desk. This computer's GPU was connected with a pci-e extension cable. Now, I don't see such cables in the shops here. So, does such a cable really exist? And if they do exist, how effective are they?

There are extenders for all kinds of things out there... I've never used one, never needed to. When you're building a PC into desks or anything else, it's always a good idea to plan for airflow, cooling, etc.

And if so, I have another question- if I have two USB A to B cables can i cut them both and half and combine the parts to make a USB A to A cable? Like if I wanted to put both ends of into seperate USB ports?

I need to extend my usb cable and I can get 15 foot extension cables.
What will happen when I plug my usb device that has its own 5 foot cable into the 15 foot cable?
Will it fail? USB is limited to 5 meters?

I have 3 usb devices. GPS, Keyboard, Mouse to plug in. Each would have its own usb extension 15 foot cable.

If that wont work, what about using a powered hub?

A:usb 2.0 extension cable length

A very quick google search came up with this statement:

If you are using a regular cable (max length of 5 meters for 2.0 and max length of 3 meters for 3.0/3.1) with an active cable, then the maximum length for USB 2.0 is 25 meters(about 82 feet) and the maximum recommended length for USB 3.0/3.1 is 15 meters (about 49 feet).

I'm not quite sure that this is in the right section, but here goes anyway:

SO, quite simply is: Does the quality of the USB extension cable affect the performance of the device you're using it with?

For example, if I am using a Wi-Fi dongle, and using a USB extension cable to position it in a higher gain area, would using a 50p cable from eBay yield the same performance as say a more expensive/ higher grade Gold plated one?

I want a longer cable for my PC's power supply but I'm not sure what kind of extension I should purchase in order to do so. Believe standard on most PSU are about 5-6' . I would not use an extension cord. Of course plug into a surge protector, try get a quality one, not cheap one.

I have bought from this company before, have many sizes in feet, good quality. can't be beat in prices. Power Cords w/ 3 Conductor PC Power Connector - Monoprice.com Google around, many other sellers on internet, never beat there prices though.

I've just bought a Freecom 500GB Toughdrive. It is brand new and I have not yet transfered any data on to it.

I'm running Windows 7 64bit on an Abit AN8 Ultra mainboard.

When I plug in the tough drive using the integrated usb cable (on my USB 1.1 or my USB 2.0 interfaces) the device seems to function normally and I can mount and access the drive. Neat.

However, if I then use the male > female extension cable, the light on drive comes on but the drive will not mount. I know that your thinking - this would suggest a faulty cable. Unfortunately not, since my 2 other usb extension cables which I know work, do not work with this drive. In addition, I have tested the drive and its extension cable on an XP SP3 laptop and it does work. I also tried the drive with cable on my win7 64 laptop and it worked - tho earlier it did not work. Power issue? I dont think so since its not a USB hub - its a straight male > female extension cable.

Please provide some explanation, as I am stumped. I can use the device, but it's a pain in the neck that I cant use an extension cable since my USB 2.0 ports are at the back of my computer and very difficult to access.

Thanks.

A:Inexplicable USB extension cable problem

Hello,

I have a small indoor TV antenna that works very well, and I want to find out if I can set it up in my attic and run the signal to more than one location with a splitter. The coaxial cable that comes out of the antenna is much thinner than standard RG6 (about 1/8" dia.), and I'm not sure if I can attach that thin cable to a splitter and then run RG6 cables out of the splitter.

Do you know what that thin coax is called, and whether it would be better to stick with that kind of cable throughout the cable runs?

Hi, guys! I am not sure what to buy!

I have a Dell 19" monitor. I dunno what kind it is. Flat screen.
But I just bought an ASUS VH238 23-inch.
Now, I want to do the dual-monitor thing, but I want the 23-inch to have a nice long cord... 6 or 8 feet.
Let me know if I'm out of my mind.
I also need the splitter.

Can anyone provide (no Ebay please) links to appropriate cables--both splitter and extender?
Or am I just being a big baby?
I don't want to buy crap, but don't want to spend a lot either.
Help!
And thanks!

A:Split Monitor Cable & Extension

Do you want to see the same thing on both monitors or two separate things? A splitter will only show you the same thing on both screens, including the same resolution. If you want to see two different things on each monitor then you will need a video card that has two outputs.

A 6 or 8 ft cable isn't much of a problem. But the cable type may depend on what video card or integrated graphics you have and what outputs are present, many(most actually) new systems support dual outputs, just check the back of the PC or post the specs/info on your computer.

Is it possible to use a USB-C extension cable with the DA200 Adapter? I haven't got much room on my desk so I'd like to move this to behind my monitors. I've tried with the one USB-C extension cable already and this hasn't worked so I was wondering whether I need a particular type?

A:Dell DA200 - Extension cable?

You'd need a USB-C cable that supported at least USB 3.1 Gen 1 traffic, maybe even 3.1 Gen 2.  I would get the latter just to be safe, although that will limit your maximum cable length. Some USB-C extension cables only support USB 2.0 because they're primarily intended to be used for charging and maybe some data transfer where bandwidth isn't as much of a priority, but such cables will not only slow down the USB and Ethernet connections on the DA200 (if they worked at all), but they would also lack the necessary wires to carry display traffic, which uses the USB 3.1 wires.  For gory details on the vast variations of USB-C and Thunderbolt cables, check out my post here: en.community.dell.com/.../20017817

i have a 15m usb extension cable and i need to run more than one device from it.

I also have a usb hub, from tescos and i was going to use it to connect multiple devices to the one usb cable/port.

I tried doing this but it although the light on the port came on none of the devices plugged in worked or showed and lights or signs at at all?? but the hub works fine when plugged into the computer with no extension.

i tried plugging in a keyboard in individually too, instead of the the mouse and it didn't work, so at the moment i can only run a mouse from that port??

I think it maybe to do with the lack of power from the one port but i am not sure. On the 4 port hub i have it does have a 5v power socket too(to allow more powerful device to run off it) but i don't have a power cable for it.

Will getting the power cable help me?

Hello to everyone

As i'm new to this forum, as welcome note i have problem to present.

Before few months i bought 2 USB extension cables for my mouse and keyboard.
They are about meter and half long, and in that time i did not have any problems with them, until last night.
In one moment i unplugged keyboard from USB extension cable and after that after i plugged it again, the keyboard did not work, not any kind of message or sound after you plug in something to usb port. So i tried plugging in mouse in same extension cable and mouse worked, but after switching keyboard to another ext.cable it did not work again.
Only way for keyboard to work is to plug it in directly to PC.
I tried uninstalling USB drivers so let windows install them automatically, but same nothing happen, only mouse is working ... :S its weird, don't know what to do as booth extension cables are obviously working. Tested with mouse. Keyboard is working as i said before i tested it plugging in directly. Never seen this kind of problem.

The design of the Dell TB15's cable is really poor. The cable is hardwired on the docking station on the left side of the unit, which is same side the thunderbolt port is on the XPS15 9550. This gives you very little options on where to put the dock, since the cable is so short.
Has anyone found an TB3 extension cable that their using?
I'd really like to move the docking station away from where I keep my laptop. If I could find a 10' cable for the docking station, that would be perfect.
However, I'm not finding much in the way of female/male cables. I'm pretty sure I'd need an TB "active" cable.

A:Extension cable for Dell TB15 docking station?

I asked this same question some time ago. It turns out that the TB15 cable is replaceable and the process is shown in the doc for it. Which would certainly indicate that they plan on having other lengths available at some point as the inside connector looks like some custom connector. That said, technically there is apparently a limitation on the cable length, I believe it is less than 3 feet. I have not found any ThunderBolt 3 extension cables.

I've got (several) excellent computer cases, and a tight-fit on a PC system desk setup.

(Typical) problem is: most all the PC "connections" to it are on the "back" & on the expansion slot panel.?! (all jacks & connectors are Ind. standard)

As you've probably figured out from my long Title above - I don't know what these extension arrays are actually called. I have seen them, (usually threaded inside the PC case from the back or Mobo, to the front).

Not knowing the 'correct'omundo name for these things has made googling for'um a lot harder. What i'd like is to 'extend' the connections for (at least) all my Graphics card Audio in/out jacks - and rear USB connections up to the front of the machine (where they should be on all machines in the first place)!

Actually. Other than things like the NIC card and A/C, I'd just as soon move "all" the "user access" connectors up front, to the top, the side, where ever they would be actually "accessable" .

I'm just tired of having to stand on my head - with a flash light in hand - tangled in wires that i'm not looking for - i'm sure lots of you have been there .

Any ideas where I can find these things, (or a correct NAME for um)? I'll buy them individually (if i have to), or a 'harness' with all the extended connections on it would be Ok with me.

The machine powers on and I get a display, but the optimal viewing resolution (the monitor has a little popup message that says 1440x900) is not available as an option when I go into display settings.
When I look in device manager, the monitor is listed as a generic plug/play device. Do I need to manually install a driver from teh manufacturer? Previously, when just plugging the monitor directly to the machine with no cable the display looked fine, but now it doesn't look as good.

You'd be better of with a long high quality cable then using an extension.

Yes, install the drivers from the manufactures website. These will help your GPU set the correct resolution.

Problem:

My desktop computer does not recognize that there is a cross-over cable connected...it gives me a message that cable is unplugged and a red 'X' on the Local Area Connection.

I don't know if there is a hardware or software setting that is not working? The computer was previously accessing the internet via At&t Broadband now I ordered DSL from Speakeasy and I get access via the laptop but I really need it on my desktop.

Any help is much appreciated as I would like to work from home.

A:Cross over cable not recognized by PC

Are you sure the cable is good? If you don't have a means of testing it, take it to someone who does or get another one to try. That you can ping your IP doesn't mean the cable is good. If you can't get activity through your modem via the cable, it is likely the cable is bad or perhaps the NIC has gone bad. I'd bet on the cable.

I already tried a computer reboot, a router+modem reboot, system restore, and I even reset the power to the room of the modem+router from the fuse box in my house. I tried everything.

I'm sure the problem must be from the actual cable or mother board itself. ( I hope it isn't ) I tried blowing out any dust from the ports and making sure that nothing was blocking the connection. I fell asleep last night with the internet not working, and woke up to it working. Every other computer in my house works except for mine. I tried all of the router ports as well. I did not attempt another ethernet cable though because my room is far and I would need to make a very long one.

it's been all smooth until now. PLEASE HELP?!?!

I got home and turned on pc, got message that windows is finishing update and once i got to desktop, none of my usb devices worked, and even my internet disconnected. Restarting does nothing, and theres only so little i can do since keyboard and mouse are not working.

A:Usb devices and ethernet cable not recognized

The update should have made a Restore Point to undo it. Run the last Restore Point to see if it gets it back to the previous state.

Edit: You may ned to borrow a PS/2 keyboard or USB to PS/2 adapter to input anything. The PS/2 support should be built in the firmware.

Hello Techsupporters!

When I boot my computer and load on Windows 7 Ultimate, I get this problem:
First my PC starts searching for an ethernet cable, then says it is disconnected. An exclamation mark in a yellow warning sign follows (down where the connection icon is) and then it all goes back to normal and i can access the internet and LAN. This takes approx. 20-30 seconds to be done.

While this was not a big problem, when I load up on Ubuntu, the notifications go: connected, disconnected, connected, disconnected and so on at irregular timing. And it goes on forever.

I reinstalled the Network Adapted Driver, reset BIOS defaults, but nothing seems to help.
Can you help me locate the issue and fix it?
Thanks in advance?

You might have a dodgy (bad) cable which is causing the problem. Try using a different Ethernet cable and see if this helps, you could also try using a different port on your switch.

I have a Canon GL2 camcorder and I want to be able to transfer my MiniDV videos to my Notebook but Windows 10 doesn't see my camera.  I checked Device Manager and the IEEE 1394 host controller is working properly so I don't know why it isn't being seen.  Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Ron

hello. recently i decided to get an external monitor because the lower half of my laptop screen is blanked out due to dropping it some months ago. anyway, i wanted to watch things fullscreen, so i found an old external monitor. the first time i plugged it in, and for many other times, it worked just as one might assume -- fine. however, recently i just tried to connect again and while the computer clearly recognizes the input of the vga (it makes a sound and resizes the screen a bit), and whereas it initially immediately went to dual display on the monitor in the past, it just displays that there is no signal. furthermore in the screen resolution menu it tells me "another display is not detected".

i made sure to update all of my drivers to no avail, have tried other monitors, etc. i'm getting frustrated as this is a simple matter usually of just plugging in the vga between both the laptop and monitor, but this has become a matter that has consumed considerable time now. can anyone help me resolve this issue?

A:external monitor not being recognized via vga cable...

1.Go to the display settings, and make sure that the second monitor is not turned off, and that "Mirror Displays" is not
checked.

2.Press the function key and switch from lcd to screen (you will see a symbol on your keyboard) this applies

My new LG Rumor Touch USB Cable is not being recognized by my computer. It worked the first time but now all I get is a message stating "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it." And the only thing the cable does now is charge the battery which isn't what I want.

Please help.

Hi Everyone,

I am not very savy so please bear with me. Here is my problem.

I have a computer that runs windows 7, and I run an ethernet cable from netgear router into my computer. It used to run fine, but all of a sudden it stopped recognizing the ethernet cable, and I can not access internet.

I know it is not the cable because I can plug in the same ethernet cable to my laptop (runs XP) and it recognizes and I can access internet.

Also, I know it's not the slot on the router because because I switched places with my other ethernet cable that plugs into Netgear Powerline Ethernet Adapter for my Xbox, and the slot recognizes the adapter just fine.

So I am thinking it has to do something with Win 7 or the computer. My computer does have the wireless capability, and I am running it on wireless right now.

Please HELP!!! I can give more information to the best of my understanding. Thanks a million in advance!

P.

Hi,

I bought two 16' USB repeater cables to extend my keyboard and mouse.

The keyboard works fine, but the mouse is not recognized and I get asked to install drivers (of which it can't find).

I am using the standard Creative USB mouse that came with my system, and did try a driver update for the mouse to no avail.

I am using Vista home.

Any thoughts?

New Inspiron 5567 Windows 10 Home.
The 2st and 4th times I plugged the HDMI cable from TV to computer the TV showed the image instantly.

But the 1st, 3rd, and now 5th, 6th, 7th times it does not recognize it.
Researching this at other forums I see drivers mentioned.
But then why did it recognize it twice in between not?

Hi there,

So in the past my laptop has been able to connect directly to the internet using an Cat5e cable, but recently when I have been trying to direct connect, I have been unable to, and not sure when the problem started because I always used WiFi and it worked great. I do a lot of messing around, not only with my network, but with my laptop settings also, so something might have gone bunko. I have done much troubleshooitng, such as trying to update drivers, checking to see if the hardware was disabled, etc... And I am out of ideas! Please, anything helps!

A:Ethernet Cable Not Recognized by Laptop, but Wifi is

can we see an ipconfig /all
------------------------------------------------------------------------
ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results in a reply here

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results to notepad and then automatically open notepad.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results to a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy
Now go back to the forum - reply and then right click in the reply box and paste
