Laptop keyboard/touchpad freezes every now and then (Win10, Lenovo)

Q: Laptop keyboard/touchpad freezes every now and then (Win10, Lenovo)

I have a recurring problem: many times, on a daily basis, usually after opening the lid of my laptop or turning the computer on after hibernate/sleep, the built-in keyboard and touchpad stops reacting!

This problem started or severed from the time I updated all drivers of the computer (using Driver Booster 3.5).

To reactivate my keyboard/touchpad again I have to hibernate the reopen the computer.

Help!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have no idea how to fix this. Every time I press a button on the keyboard, my mouse freezes for a second or so. When I hold a button, the mouse won't move until a second after I let go. This is really annoying, because if I try to run any games like SRB2, I can't walk and look at the same time. I didn't put this in the Gaming forum, because it also affects outside of games too.

Is there any way I can fix this? I'll give information if asked.

I bought my Lenovo u31-70 two months ago. It works perfectly fine until 2 days ago the keyboard and touch pad suddenly stopped working but I didn't do anything special.  I tried to restart and eveytime it takes approximately 7 to 10 minutes for the screen to light up after I have pressed the power button, and only found the touchpad and keyboard still unresponsive.  Then I tried to call the lenovo support, they offered me several ways to fix this, even restore factory settings, but none of them worked. I found there are some other people had the same problem with me and the solved it by upgrading the BIOS. When I tried to upgrade the BIOS as suggested, it gives me the information that "The version of ROM file is the same as that of BIOS". I cannot install it. So the problem still remains. Does anyone in the lenovo support specialists team can help me with that? I'll appreciate your help very much. It really drives me crazy as I am in another country and cannot send my PC repaired here. Please help me!

New laptop and noticing the cursor will freeze for a fraction of a sec then catch up and jump to where it needs to be randomly. Looks more like a graphics issues. I've noticed this running from the cpu integrated graphics and nvidia gfx external. Is this a driver issue? In linux I've noticed the screen flicker randomly. The touchpad also seems to not register my taps or clicks at random intervals.  I sometimes have to click a few times before it actually registers the click. http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/ideapad/700-series/700-15-inch/Model: 80RU00CYUS

Hello! So I've gotten an issue that occoured today, which have made my laptop more or less useless. So yesterday during school it worked wonders, and today when I got to school and booted the laptop on. The Touchpad WOULD not work. It would not move out of the spot, but the keyboard have also just done the same. When I try and press a button on the keyboard nothing happens. I currently only have 4 buttons that work on it. Which are F9(Turn display on/off) F11/F12(display light up and down) and Fn key. This effectively means I am locked out of my laptop without having a mouse and a  keyboard with me. Which I simply cant have to school. I've tried googling around, but no one seemed to have this issue!

System: Windows 10 64 bitAfter turning it on from sleepmode the keyboard and mouse weren't working. So I restarted it and Windows installed some updates. The keyboard and the TouchPad still weren't working. The USB mouse was, also the FN keys. I tried the F6 button it didn't help, so with the screen keyboard I was able to log in and type the pass. After that I went to device manager and the Lenovo TouchPad had a yellow triangle. So I went to Lenovo website and downloaded the driver, uninstalled and installed the new one, restarted again - no luck. When I clicked on the mouse menu in control panel popped up a message that said "couldn't connect to the driver. Etc etc" In device manager even after the update it was with yellow triangle. So I saw in a thread here in the forum that sometimes the installing of Synaptics driver helped, but after that even the USB mouse stopped working and the FN keys too, so I am no longer able to log in to the notebook with the screen keyboard. I can't enter BIOS with F2. Somehow I managed to get into recovery and the USB mouse was working there but when I tried to go into safe mode I can't because of the FN keys. Any suggestions how to solve this problem?

Hello I bought a Lenovo E51-80 for my mother in law a few weeks ago.  I updated the Drivers and Windows, removed some of the Levono software, installed various software and then following the install iTunes and iCloud, then restarted, and the Keyboard and Touchpad stopped responding, apart from the Brightness Hotkeys and another Hotkey. When I put the PC into Safe Mode, the keyboard worked fine, but when I booted into Windows again it didn't.  I also tried Bios, but there wasn't any options relating the Keyboard and Touchpad.  I then did a System Restore to a point before I installed iTunes and this got it working again. It has since happened again a number of times, and I though it might have been a Windows Patch or something I installed, but I'm not so sure now and it seems to happen following a restart, and more frequently following a install and restart. I have also reinstalling the Driver for the Lenovo pointing device, but this didn't work, and each time, the system restore gets the Keyboard and Touchpad working again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Lenovo Yoga 700 14ISK (ideapad) with Windows 10 64bit, whose keyboard and touchpad are refusing to work.Everything else seems to be running smoothly except for these. I initially was getting by via the on screen keyboard until I began borrowing an external wireless one. The following is what I knowReset to factory settings did not work.Optimizing OS in BIOS is enabled already (enabling this was suggested by Lenovo Support)THE ARROW KEYS WORK IN BIOS (??!???!?)An external keyboard works (I have used two different Logitech keyboards and both work)Before I sign in, FN+Space seems to work thus (re)activating my backlight. Once I sign in, it stops working. There's no updates for the keyboard driver.I have already tried to uninstall the driver, restart the laptop, and allow it to reinstall the driver.Disabling ymc did not help.F6 does not re-enable the touchpad.I tried a couple button combinations I've seen around for people disabling/enabling keyboards, but none worked. (Willing to try more though!!!) Any ideas? I thought it may be a hardware problem, but since the arrow keys work in BIOS; I'm not confident that this is the case.

I am super going bananas from my Dell Inspiron 700m. I think it may be my fault as I will soon explain but let's first get to the problem. I am extremely tempted to throw it against the wall at times. The touchpad mouse and keyboard freezes simultaneously right in the middle of either playing a game or just using the computer for other non-game activities.

The mouse will freeze and I won't be able to type anything at all for a period of a few minutes. When the mouse works again, it may behave erratically for a few seconds and then start functioning again normally. The keyboard freezes and will behave normally once the mouse works again; but, if I touch either before the keyboard returns, then it may cause the keyboard to behave erratic and remain that way forcing me to restart the computer.

As I stated before, I believe it may be my fault. I have tons of music files on my computer and my hard drive is nearly tapped for space. I'm praying it's not a hardware problem b/c I don't have the money to get it repaired. I am a single mom with a very expensive son and can't afford any alternatives. I hope someone can help me find a solution to the problem within reason.

Hi, I am opening this new thread to summarise some of the problems that a lot of us have in the hope that we might get an official response that solves the issue. I am facing 3 seperate issues and I am convinced based on what  read in the forum that they are directly linked. 1) Touchpad is laggy. While drawing a straight line on my touchpad the cursor will definitely jump a certain amount of space on the screen. In other words the movement is not continuous, but laggy. 2) While typing (happened 3 times in this text so far) the keyboard will miss keystrokes even though I absolutely pressed the key. I would say it happens in a frequency of 1 every 80-100 characters. 3) While working on battery, and it being charged >80%, a message will pop up saying I have 6% left and dissapear. Therehas been a report in the forum claiming that if you unplug the battery all the above issues will be fixed. Obviously all of us bought a laptop, not a desktop, and removing the battery is not a option. However, that report indicates-to me a least- that we are dealing with a power management issue. I would appreciate an official response from lenovo, or better yet a fix for our problem.

Hi um... My notebook HP pavillion was working fine this morning, but when I came home two hours later my computer stopped functioning correctly. Before I left, I downloaded a program called Digsby that I had never used before and then left. When I came back my computer wouldn't stop "ding"ing and was spewing random letters and numbers. Alarmed, I forced shut off my computer. At the part where the computer asked me if I wanted to go into safe mode or start up correctly, I couldn't move anything, go up, or even press enter, so I had to wait before it loaded. After it'd load up, my touchpad wouldn't respond and I had to use an external mouse. Then I discovered that when typing, I also could not use the key Caps Lock, or else my whole keyboard freezes up. At that time, any keys would not function, including strangly the sound system in the computer. I've tried to use system restore to go back to an earlier time but that didn't help with anything at all. I ran Webroot Antivirus Spysweeper to no avial. Not until after I went back to the earliest time that I could and ran Webroot again did it find anything. But even after the virus got caught nothing still worked.

A:Lenovo G570 beeps constantly on start up - keyboard and touchpad don't work properly

Shanuka,
Welcome to the forum!

Would you turn off the system and restart and see if you can go into BIOS?   If you get the constant beep on startup and are unable to press F2 (I believe it is F2) to enter BIOS, then it sounds like you may have a stuck key on the keyboard, or the cable for the trackpad or keyboard is not fully connected to the systemboard, OR the internal cables are pinched.   If this is the case, then I think you probably need to contact Lenovo service for help as it is likely a hardware issue.

If you are able to go into BIOS, are you able to move around in there?  You could try reloading BIOS defaults and reboot.  If everything works in BIOS and the problem is only in Windows, then it could be a driver / setting (less likely), but you could try to open mouse in the control panel and check settings.

But just based on the symptoms, it really sounds like either the touchpad or keyboard has a stuck key or is acting as if one is stuck due to the bad cable connection or a short.

Mark

I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 that has a vertical and horizontal scrolling option on the touch pad. It worked fine when I got the laptop but now the scrolling doesn't work. The touchpad works, just won't scroll. I must have accidentally changed the settings or something. I've read other postings and tried to go through the control panel but there is no option for a touchpad in my control panel and I can't find anything under mouse properties that I can change to fix this. Also, my keyboard now jumps all over the place. In the middle of typing my cursor jumps to another sentence and starts putting in my letters, how is that happening? That just started, it wasn't doing that before. I've looked through downloads thinking I needed a new driver but you can't tell what is what so who knows what to download! A:Laptop Touchpad and keyboard

I LOVE CSI....except NY.

I have an HP laptop with scroll on the touchpad.

When I go to "Mouse" in Control Panel I see Touchpad functions and an "ALPS" logo. I assume that is because of the touchpad software installed. Perhaps you have somehow uninstalled or corrupted your Touchpad software???

As far as the cursor jumping goes...I also had that problem. It was caused by the BASE of my THUMBS touching the touchpad while I typed. I'm more careful about that now, AND I turned DOWN the sensitivity of the Pad. Hope this helps.

Last night while just browsing around sites my keyboard and touchpad simply stopped working (mind you, these are sites I frequent and shouldn't be dangerous), And now I'm stuck using a Usb keyboard/Mouse.

I checked the device manager, and there's a yellow exclamation point next to the keyboard. So I did some basic troubleshooting like disabling/enabling the keyboard, updating, and reinstalling the keyboard drivers. So far, nothing has worked.

However, I have found that my function keys still work correctly. People have suggested using functions like Fn+7 and such, but those have done nothing so far.

And if it helps, I'm using a Toshiba laptop with a synaptics touchpad.

EDIT: I've also checked for viruses by first running a quick scan on Malwarebytes, then a full scan.

Hi, I'm using a HP EliteBook. And recently I've been using this docking station to insert a monitor and a different keyboard to it. That worked fine until I then had to take my laptop with me and ejected it from the docking station in a hurry (while it was turned off). And now my laptop does not respond at all to neither the keyboard nor the touchpad. My wireless mouse works, so I used the screen keyboard to unlock the PC. And the question is then; how am I supposed to fix this?

Hi,
I bought my Acer laptop (aspire 5610z) used a couple months back. It's always been a good laptop, except that the mouse pad keys were "loose" and wobbly. A couple days ago, I decded to fix both keys. I took the screen, top cover/palm rest, and keyboard out. Nothing too major. I succeeded in fixing the keys, and they both work like new. (a plastic piece broke off each of them so I superglued them back together.) I put everything back together, powered it on, and realized that the touchpad didn't work. Like anyone would do, I took it back apart, and realized that the ribbon cable running from the touchpad to the motherboard was out of its housing, so I plugged it back in. It still wouldnt work, so I stopped for the night. The next day, I was tinkering with it, and somehow the keyboard stopped working too. I get mad at this point. Its not like I broke anything all the times I opened the laptop up. Frustrated, I stopped for the day. Sunday night, I try to fix it again, and to my suprise and luck, the keyboard and touchpad worked again. I was happy, and started using the laptop. I didn't use for more than 20min, when guess what, the keyboard, touchpad, and the volume/play buttons on the side all stopped working, again. (I unplugged that volume/play ribbon cable, also.)The keyboard will work in screens like where it says "windows error recovery, start in safe mode, command prompt, normal." It just won't work in regular windows.

Zif cables

You need to be really careful when taking apart a notebook..the ZIF cables (Zero Insertion Force) sometimes called Flex Cables are extermely fragile...the connector on the motherboard has little slides that you pull out, then remove the ZIF connector, the cable will go in/out with "Zero Force" To install make sure the slide is OUT, then put the ZIF cable in and you push the slide back in...cable connected. If you just pull these cables out and try to force them back in you will shred the ends and the keyboard/touchpad/etc won't work.

if only SOME of the keyboard does not work, like a small area, maybe the 1, 2, q, w, a, keys..that means the ZIF cable is not inserted all the way...reseat the cable and it should work fine..

Many of these cables can be bought for $5 or so on eBay if you need to replace them...I have bought several of them from a guy..I can get his information if you need it.

I have a Dell Inspiron laptop that's about 2 years old. Today my keyboard and touchpad randomly stopped working all together. I managed to restart my computer, but since then, and after restarting it multiple times, both seem to be delayed. Because of this, the keyboard won't pick up most of my typing unless I type at a very slow speed and when I use the touchpad, the mouse is very jerky in its movement.
