Lenovo T480s external display doesn't wake from sleep

Q: Lenovo T480s external display doesn't wake from sleep

HiI have a Dell monitor P2419HC and using it with Lenovo T480s via USB-C port. (it both charges the laptop and display)But, when waking up the Lenovo T480s from sleep mode, the P2419HC won't recognize the signal and says "no USB Type-C signal from your device".Reconnecting the USB-C cable from the Lenovo T480s solves the problem. When asked in Dell forums i got the following response:"By disconnecting/reconnecting the USB Type-C cable from the Lenovo T480s, you are forcing the Lenovo T480s operating system to "initiate" the USB Type-C handshake to the P2419HC. The Lenovo T480s hardware and operating system are responsible to make the connection handshake to the P2419HC. The P2419HC just waits for the handshake. The P2419HC does not "initiate" the handshake." link:https://www.dell.com/community/Monitors/P2419HC-Lenovo-T480s-no-USB-Type-C-signal/td-p/7279448 Is it fixable? Thanks!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, I would like to ask a question about my desktop here. After upgrading to Windows 8.1, I noticed that there has been a problem with my display. It doesn't happen everytime, but randomly, when the computer is idle for 10 minutes and the screen is automatically turned off, it won't turn back on anymore. Normally, I will just move the mouse and the display will turn back on again. However, when the problem happens, no matter what I do, moving the mouse, typing in the keyboard, it won't turn back on. I even tried to press the shutdown button, thinking that the computer is just sleeping and it will wake up again, however it doesn't do anything. The only thing that works is the restart button... I've tried every way to try and stop the problem: uninstalling the graphic drivers and reinstall the latest beta drivers, uninstall the drivers again and install the WHQL drivers, installing monitor drivers, checking out the power options and making sure that the computer isn't set to sleep after a timeout period... Nothing works, the problem will still randomly happen again after the desktop turns off the display monitor. My graphic card is Sapphire Radeon R9 270.. does anyone have any solution to this problem of mine? Help is greatly appreciated, I'm very tired of this happening suddenly, I do not want to lose my data from restarting the computer...

A:Lenovo y700 screen doesn't wake up from sleep

Hi bouga ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Checking on the support site for   Notebook IP Y700-15ISK I7 , seems no BIOS update needed for this model.
Typically even on Win Vista and Windows 7 that issue with sleep has been related to hybrid features.

Method 1 : You may try to disable it using the cmd elevated for the command  powercfg -h off .
Check on this video link for the guide steps

Method 2 : Setting Power option to High Performance instead of conservation mode . then manualy setting sleep on the start icon

Continue to apply neccessary updates that may correct this issue but for the time being , you can use Method 2 as alternate solution if method 1 fail to correct it.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Hello, I have an Ideapad 510S13ISK on Windows 10 bought less than a year ago. After installing the Updates for windows (Version 1709) on December my pc started not to wake up from sleep mode, neither closing and opening the screen nor trying to wake it up using the power or any other key.I tried previously to update all drivers from Lenovo's support site. Then i tried to use a restor point created before the Windows Updates, but they still remained installed. At that point i reset the pc using the reset option by windows but the problem was still present.I updated again all drivers after the reset but nothing, it doesn't wake up. Precisely the pc seems to wake up but the screen doesn't, and it "flashes". Here a video of the probem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LntcxCrlZqQ I'm sorry for my english, hope you understand. Kind regards. Marco

I have several users who are on T480s laptops with intel graphics connected to Ultradocks. They would like to have 2 external monitors in addition to the laptop screen and use all 3 as extended desktops. When I try and set that up, one of the external monitors mirrors the built in screen. I cannot seem to get all three to work independantly. The graphics display properties won't let me say all three should be extentions. What am I doing wrong?

I'm trying to connect the Mobile Pixels Duex monitor to my T480s. It connects via USB C-C. It doesn't work at all with the USB C port on the T480s. If I connect it by an USB A adapter to a USB A port (USB A port => USB A/USB C adapter => USB C-C Cable => Duex monitor) it does work. Also, the USB C port has a very shaky connection with my phone (Pixel 2), and it has done so since I got the laptop last October. It was so bad that I had thought it was only a charging port?until one time when I plugged my phone in to charge and USB data options unexpectedly popped up. Since then, I've tried using it for data transfers to my phone; but, unless the file is very small, it will almost always disconnect partway through. Same thing with trying to use the USB C port for Unity Remote. Both data transfers and Unity Remote work perfectly fine when I connect my phone with a USB A-C cable. Is the port broken or are USB C ports just not supposed to be good with data?

It's not clear to me what 'Wake by Thunderbolt' (hereafter WbT) does and whether or not it's required for 'Wake On LAN' (hereafter WOL).  In the T470s and T480s user guides, there's no mention that WbT is required for WOL so I'm thinking it's not.  But then again, since Ethernet is in the dock itself, and seeing how there are controls for PXE, I could see how it might be required. ReferencesT470s User GuideT480s User Guide

Hi      I bought a new p51 last week and am experiencing this issue from time to time. When I don't work on the laptop, I just close the lid. After some time, I see that the red led light on the lid goes blinking on slow pace - that tells me the machine has gone into sleep mode. Now, when I come back to the machine later, usually I see either the red led is still blinking or completely gone off.  I open the lid, the machine wakes up and I cannot work, I see black screen.    Problem exists on Windows 10 and Fedora 27, so this problem is related with BIOS. One more thing, this problem is not present on battery only when laptop is connected to AC adapter. BIOS: 1.20

Hello,         I have been using this new machine for last 2 months and am experiencing this issue from time to time. When I don't work on the laptop, I just close the lid. After some time, I see that the red led light on the lid goes blinking on slow pace - that tells me the machine has gone into sleep mode. Now, when I come back to the machine later, usually I see either the red led is still blinking or completely gone off. I open the lid, the machine wakes up and I can start working on.       However, at times, when I come back, I see that the red led on the lid is constantly on. In those occasions, when I open the lid, the machine doesn't "wake up". I see that the greed led on the power button is constantly on - so that kind of indicates that the machine IS probably awake. But, the screen is black/empty as if its still sleeping. In these situations, I normally end up with force restarting the machine - making me to reopen all the  applications once again, if not loosing some work/data.        Is there anywya I can tweak any setting or follow any best practice - that can prevent this issue from re-ocurring?         Thank you very much in advance for your suggestions.

This is more of an intrigue than an issue but I'm still curious as to why this happens. Issue: When placing a T480s on top of another T480s both machines will be forced into sleep mode.  How to reproduce: Line up a T480s on top of another T480s (or T480) and the device will go into sleep mode. I've Stacked T480 units and this does not happen this seems to only affect the T480s line. (These test were preformed on the latest bios/driver revisions) What I think maybe happening is that the T480s when stacked are triggering the lid closed sensor of the other unit. Since this is not the case for the T480 units we have I think it may be because of the thickness of the s models. Is this something that will eventually be fixed via bios update? or is this just a flaw in the T480s design? Thanks for in advanced for your response!

A:T480s is forced into sleep mode when in close proximity to T480/T480s

I've seen this happen in the past, it was due to how strong the magnets are that keep the lid shut.

Hi, I've recently been running into a problem -- I put my computer into sleep mode, and then when I press the power button to wake the computer, either the screen stays black and I have to do a forced reboot (holding down the power button), or it simply does a forced reboot automatically. This doesn't happen all the time, but I'd say probably 60% of the time that I want to wake my computer from sleep...and I haven't noticed a certain pattern of when it does and doesn't work. It has only been happening the last month or so, and has happened more often recently. I got a new battery for my laptop about a month ago, so that may have corresponded to when this problem started, I can't 100% remember.

I have an HP Compaq 8710w laptop with Windows 7 Professional (32-bit). I have updated all the drivers already (literally went through every device in Device Manager and tried finding updates for each), and the issue is still happening. What's the next step I should take? Thanks in advance!

I've been having this problem for awhille -- approximately 30-50% of the time, when I put my computer in sleep mode and try waking it up, it simply doesn't wake up. I hear it turn on (fan starts running, etc.) but the screen is black (forced to hold down power button to reboot)...or it goes to the startup screen (but won't finish starting up -- have to hold down power button to reboot).

I have an HP Compaq 8710w laptop with Windows 7 Professional (32-bit).

Here is what I have done already to try to fix it:

-Updated drivers
-Tried turning off wireless before putting to sleep
-Changed power plan from "High Performance" to "Balanced".

No dice. Any other ideas?

Sometimes I press the power button and it wakes up fine, but sometime I get the black screen. My computer is up to date on the latest BIOS update (from today), Both Intel and nVidia graphics drivers are up to date, and in my power settings, my hard drive is set to not turn off ever. Does anyone know a solution to this problem??

Hi there, I own the same model and I believe I have the same issue. Also I find booting up to be painfully slow. It gives me so much Apple Mac envy. I am almost certain the issue is with regard to the HDD itself, the WDC WD10S21X-24R1BT0-SSHD-8GB. It is used in many of the new-ish lenovo laptops including the Y50 touchscreen gaming computer. Many customers have complained about the SSHD, google that long model and you'll see loads of complaints on forums. Hi, I recently purchased a Thinkpad X1 Yoga, shipped on May 16, 2016.  I have an issue:     When I use the left side USB port (the one on the side of the power charging port) to charge my old Ipod and the laptop goes to sleep. The laptop does not wake up when opening the lid or pressing on the power button. However, as soon as I disconnect my Ipod from the USB port. The laptop immediately wakes up but unable to login using the fingerprint reader. Specific steps to reproduce: 1) Plug x1 yoga power cord to the laptop 2) Plug Ipod to the left side USB port. Make sure Ipod has no earphones plugged in. 3) Put the laptop in sleep mode 4) Close the lid of the laptop 5) Wait until iPod is no longer being charged by the laptop (a few seconds after the laptop goes to sleep) 6) Wait until iPod automically turns off on its own (it takes 15 to 30 mins, not sure exactly how much time.) 7) Open the laptop lid and notice that the laptop is not waking up. 8) Press on the "power" button on the right side of the X1 Yoga. Notice that the laptop does not wake up. 9) Remove the iPod from the USB port on the left side of the X1 Yoga.        Notice that the laptop is now able to wake up.        Also notice that the finger print reader is not responding. Cannot login using the fingerprint reader. Seems like a driver issue. Lenovo please confirm! ThanksWilly

Came across my first major problem. When I try to go into sleep mode (either through the Start menu or pressing the power button), the hard drive light blinks for a second then the screen goes black. BUT... my power light stays on (should be blinking) and pressing it again, the mouse button... nor any key press on the keyboard will wake it up. I had to hard shutdown (holding the power key down for like 5 seconds) for the light go off and had to keep rebooting from scratch.

That's a major pain since waking up out of sleep mode is normally much faster and convenient. To make things worse.... it seems like 10 takes longer to boot up from scratch than 8.1 did. I've yet to see if SHUTDOWN works properly or not. Not a happy camper on the sleep mode issue. It worked under 8.1 just fine. Anybody else?!?

EDIT: Shutdown goes through a longer process, but ends the same as sleep does...... The power light stays on.

I'm using an HP Envy w/ i7-4510u CPU / 8GB RAM / 4GB Nvidia GTX 850M / 1TB drive

EDIT#2: Now SLEEP and SHUTDOWN appear to be working properly and Windows 10's boot up times are as fast or faster than 8.1 now. It's like a car and trying to clear out the lines of bad fuel before it runs right. Just some weird hiccups.

EDIT#3.... Now it's doing it again!

A:Sleep Mode doesn't work right nor does it wake up.

Identical issues here. Also an HP Envy. Also sleep/hibernate works sometimes and not others.

This will be a deal breaker for me if I can't turn off my computer and turn it back on with my status still intact. I'll (gulp) be forced to return to 8.1

Will post here if I figure out a solution

The only way I can wake it up is by pressing the Power Button. Then it wakes up normally and I go back to the Windows 7 login screen. Is it possible to wake up this computer by pressing a key instead of the power button ? I don't want to press it too often. For example on my old Acer Aspire 5315, pressing a key wakes up the computer instantly. Also, I have no "Allow this device to wake up computer" option in my Device Manager.I can't find this option in the BIOS neither. Can you wake your HP Notebook computer by pressing the keyboard ? Is there a way to do that on EliteBooks ? Thanks and sorry for my mistakes, English is not my mother language.

A:Keyboard doesn't wake up computer from sleep

If you have an external display, it will stop the computer from waking. Disconnect display port cable and try again. Also, check your drivers so that Power Mgmt. allows mouse or keyboard to wake system. I have found these issues effect my HP 8460P as well as HP 2540P. Also, make sure that the BIOS allows USB to wake system.

I am using a brand new Lenovo P51 with 64-bit Windows 10 with a NVIDIA Quadro M1200 video card along with an external monitor (ASUS VS228H-P) connected through HDMI. When my computer goes to sleep, my second monitor turns off. When I wake up the laptop, but 2nd monitor is no longer recognized by the machine and I am unable to use the display. I have tried a number of solutions already:1) I have tried selecting "extend display" under F72) I have tried using the detect display button in System/Display Settings3) I have updated my drivers for both display adapaters (intel graphics 630, and NVIDIA Quadro M1200)4) I have turned the monitor on and off,5) I have cycled through the input options on the monitor while it is on6) I have plugged and unplugged the HDMI cable The only solution to reconnect the monitor I have found is to reboot the computer which is impractical for me while I am using the machine (I am running programs over multiple days and rebooting is not impossible). It is also impractical to turn off sleep mode on the machine - the whole point of having sleep mode is to save my screen and reduce power usage. I also use sleep mode for security - I want my laptop to lock so that someone can't just pick it up any time and use it. I also read somewhere that someone was able to turn off and then turn on the display adapters to reconnect - but this is a ridiculous fix I won't repeat over and over again. Outside of these solutions, has anyone found a way to make Win... I have a HP Notebook Laptop connected to an external display with a unifying wireless device - the Logitech K400 Plus Keyboard. I put the laptop to sleep to save battery power. Now here's the problem; I'll have to physically open the screen door just to get it to wake and its something I do not want to do every time. HP parts are expensive. -_- Its a new laptop but still...they do NOT last. I have the same issue when the batteries goes dead and it goes into hibernation mode. I'd have to open the screen door to press the power switch. Thanks.

I have a very new P1 workstation with the xenon processor. I have updated my BIOS recently. I often find that if i walk away from my computer for long enough for it to go to sleep, it will not come back out of sleep when I open the lid or press the power or any buttons. Nothing I can do will wake it up until I hold power down for 10 seconds and it restarts. It's extremely frustrating. Any suggestions?

Hello and welcome,

I'm sure you've already tried this, so forgive me for asking.  Does that option become available if you remove the tick from the "...Energie zu sparen" check box?

Z.

I received my brand new T460s on 6/1/2016. Unfortunately, an issue that has been happening more and more frequently is that my display will not wake up from sleep. Sometimes when I open the laptop lid, the screen will remain black, even though everything else seems functional (the fingerprint reader light will light up green, I can hear the USB sound effects when I remove and re-insert my smart card, I can adjust my keyboard backlight, etc). I already have all the most recent drivers available from Lenovo System Update installed. The only thing I can do when the display does not wake up is to force a shutdown by holding the power button for >5 seconds.  Even adjusting my laptop to Hibernate instead of Sleep will still sometimes result in my display not waking up. Any idea how to fix this?

Pretty self-explanatory by the title. I haven't had this problem until two days ago, and I Sleep my computer on a regular basis. This now happens about one out of three times I wake my computer.

The computer turns on, but the display doesn't. It's not the monitor--if I power it off and on, nothing changes, but it will turn on as usual after I forcibly restart my computer. Every time this happens, my only option is to hold down the PC's power button until it shuts off and then power it back on. I've also checked all the cables.

My guess is that it's the graphics card, though it's strange that it started recently--I haven't installed any video driver updates.

The only change I can think of is Windows 7 auto updates that installed recently (none were for the display, all were for "x64-based systems").

My graphics card is an EVGA 9600 GSO with 768MB DDR2.
Windows 7 x64
Hanns•G HH251 connected via DVI (video card end) to HDMI (monitor end) cable.

Another note: This only occurs with sleep. No problems with Hibernate (thus far, at least).

A:When wake from sleep, display won't turn on.

disable the sleep feature, use to happen to my fathers pc had to disable it from happening. Not sure how to fix it but its a quick fix for the moment till someone who knows more then i do responds

Hi! I have a brand new X1 Carbon Gen3 i7 running on Windows 10 64 bit, the issue is that when it goes into deep sleep mode I am not able to wake up the unit by any mean, neither by pressing a key nor by pressing the power button. I am forced to reboot the unit by holding the power button.  I saw some similar issue in a T440 thread, but no solution was foundhttps://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/T440-Doesn-t-Wake-from-Deep-Sleep/td-p/1... Your help is highly apreciated! Cheers Enzo

Upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 8.When laptop lid is closed, after about an hour or more the power light is steady on.Laptop will not wake from Sleep Mode.  Keypad, or any other key does not wake this up.Hard shutdown/reboot via holding power key does force a reboot and system works after that.Have put this manually into Sleep Mode and power light blinks and wakes up on keyboard select.  Long term sleep causes problem to recur when manually placed into sleep mode I have updated all drivers including the MEI driver.I have checked power options and all are correct re Sleep Mode.Hibernate Mode is not selected for any Power Profile. I see some reference to installing a backlevel MEI driver version 9.xxxxxxx.  I don't understand how to do that or if that is compatible with my laptop.  I have downloaded in from the Intel website, but have not unzipped it.  Also have seen suggestions to turn off the MEI driver. Any guidance on how to proceed next would be appreciated.  If install of the driver is required, what specifically must I do to accomplish that?
