My Internet USB Modem starts downloading by itself

Q: My Internet USB Modem starts downloading by itself

Hi Everyone,

I have a Huawei E367 Internet USB Modem, which I use on my Laptop (Windows 7, 32-bit), and my PC (Windows 7, 32-bit). (Internet connection is MTN South Africa)

The USB works fine on my Laptop, it opens the Internet when I ask it to, and it downloads only when I ask it to.

When I put the USB in my PC, and press connect, to connect to the Internet, it starts downloading, continuously in Mb's. This happens when I open a webpage or not. Even if I close all my webpages, it continues to download in volumes, until I disconnect it.

I've checked in my downloads folder, there is nothing there. Windows Update is not set to automating updating, and there is no program on my PC, that I am aware of, that should be downloading anything. I don't know what the problem is.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I don't know the model or the type. The stuff I put in when installing it in the control panel(it was already physically installed in the computer, but wasn't dialing) is a bunch of guesses.

This is all the info I have about a modem that refuses to work right:

"Port: COM1" - I set it up that way when intalling through the control panel and I have no idea if that's how it should be set up.
"Interrupt: 4
Address: 3F8
UART: NS 16550AN
Standard 56000 bps V90 Modem" - Again, I set the bold part up when installing via the control panel and have no idea if that's set up right.

"Identifier: USRK2_Gen"

I googled the identifier and found that it was a USRobotics modem, but that's all I know about it.

Something if making the power fluctuate.

I'd say they have wiring issues on one of the phases.

Hi Guys,

This a bit of a puzzler: I recently upgraded my cable modem. Now, whenever I power on my PC, my web-browser (Firefox) automatically pops up and displays a web-page ("branded" with my ISP's logo) with a warning message telling me that my cable modem is down (this is because my PC boots up far quicker than the cable modem is able to). If I allow my modem to fully boot/start and THEN turn on my PC, this doesn't happen.

Question is: How is this browser pop-up occurring? I can't see any startup processes and I certainly didn't install any additional software when I installed the modem (it was a simple hardware swap).

Second question is: How do I disable it and see whether any other stuff has been 'installed' when I upgraded the modem?

We have about 3 PCs, 1 Laptop, and 4 Android Tablets in the house, there are many people living here. We only have about 3mbps of DSL Download speed/package so we agreed to not download or torrent anything without permission. Still, I notice there are times when we get really slow response time and page load and I thought, there must be a way to check from time to time or monitor if someone is downloading something thus hogging the bandwidth. Is this possible? I tried searching the web but all I got were scams, possible malwares that don't even give what I need.

A:DSL Modem Administration, how to know if a computer in network is downloading

If your router or modem/router provides that information then you have it. But, it is very unlikely. I happen to have a Belkin Vision N1 that has a fancy LCD screen that shows which devices are actively downloading/uploading and indication of the bandwidth used. But such routers are rare I think. I'm guessing that there are probably high end routers with better features.

To monitor such activity on a computer would require having all the traffic go through that computer.

Our company  website contains a collection firmware and executable for our customers to download. Customers running Chrome, Firefox, or early versions of the IE have no issues. Customers running IE11 and
Edge on Windows 10 report that .exe files download properly, but the firmware files with a custom extension do not. Instead, IE11 opens a new tab and the new window contains a little "X" icon. That's it. Nothing in the Download area.
Some of our more adventurous customers searched through there Temporary Internet folders and found the firmware files stored as .ICO files. When the files were copied out and renamed back to to the proper extension
(the main part of the name was correct), our product read the files just file. Any idea why are the files getting their extension changed to .ICO and why are they not appearing in the download area. This is affecting multiple customers.

This has been happening to me for about 6 months now, sometime, usually between 6 and 10 PM, my internet will get very slow. Pages like the main Google page will usually open, but anything larger (Facebook, this, pretty much anything with more then a few buttons) won't, or loads extremely slowly with me refreshing the page every few seconds until it loads all the way. It spikes as well, one minute, Facebook will load partly, the next Google might not even load.

I don't think the time is the factor, more as something is building up through the day, because it almost seems the more I use the computer the faster it starts to slow down.

The problem is almost always fixed by me restarting my computer. It is not the router, I have tried switching my PC from the router to the modem, it will be back to normal for a minute or two then immediately slow down again. What browser I use is also not the problem, it is just as slow in both Firefox and Chrome (couldn't test IE as it isn't installed right now.

Although I don't think it is the problem, my Router is a Linksys WRT54GS, and my Modem is a Motorola SB5102

As I said above, I think it's something building up through the day that slows it down.

I think I provided all the necessary information, if there is anything else that may help, I will be happy to provide it.

After a fresh reboot, when I load up my Internet Explorer 7, it takes about 30 seconds before my homepage (google.com) starts up. Right before it starts up, I see a quick flash of a message regarding the Windows Firewall program in the bottom right corner of the screen. This display of the windows firewall showing itself is new, I never used to see this before. Once IE7 has been loaded for the first time after a reboot and then closed, it will load almost instantaneously thereafter until the computer is restarted again, where IE7 then becomes very slow after it is initially loaded. IE7 used to start almost immediately after a fresh reboot of the computer.

My Windows XP has SP3 loaded and is completely updated. I have run a full scan with Windows Defender and didn't find any spyware. I also ran a full scan with Symanctec Antivirus, and no viruses were found. Below is a copy of my HijackThis report. Any help on resolving this would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

I'm using Windows XP with SP2 and Internet Explorer 6. It's been this way since it was installed, and it's a problem I've never encountered before on any other XP machine (I have a Foxconn motherboard on a home-built machine, btw. Would not recommend that brand).

The problem is that whenever I copy a URL, complete with http prefix, Internet Explorer will open a new instance, or the most recent instance, and try to load that page. If I copy a URL from the location bar of the most recent instance of IE, it simply automatically re-pastes the URL over the current URL and tries to load the page, effectively the same as clicking refresh. I like to keep several different browsers going at once for different pages and end up copying URLs a lot, so this happens quite frequently.

Is there a way to stop Windows from attempting to do this?

It contains information and settings for all hardware, software, users, and preferences. I had IE 7, it "broke". So I downloaded IE 8. Still did. I then used my recovery files to replace the ones I had. Thinking my program folder was broken. To anyone who says use firefox. I am, its that certain websites love IE*coughrobloxcough* and will not work in other browsers.

This is what I am doing... Clicking Internet Explorer, it doesn't open up. 1 minute later it does but its blank. I can type in websites but it will not go to it. It can't close so I have to use CTRL+ALT+DEL to manually close it.

Anyone have any suggestions? Its very annoying.. -_-

I am going to try CC to see if it fixes it. What sucks is that all my restore points are somehow "gone" and now I can't go back to the one I went to before that fixed this problem. -_-

I also try Registry Booster to see if it was a DLL error, It didn't fix anything.
I also found out this isn't ONLY an internet explorer error. You know how Windows comes with a Windows help menu that pops up once in a while? Well, all the images are red X's. O_o
Tried using the registry cleaner and the normal cleaner to see if it fixed anything. It did not.
I can't find the security options for internet Explorer because its not even there.... O_o
Is there a way to uninstall IE8 so I can go back to IE6?

Did Malware scan, cleaned no help.
I downloaded IEFix to see if it would work. It did not, it just crashes.

Any help? I'm really tired of IE -_-

Hello Autosaver,

Welcome to Vista Forums.

Have you tried it without add-ons? Sounds like one of them may be causing problems. Not in Vista at the moment, but think it's in Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > IE (no add-ons)

Hope this helps.

After a while the Internet works normally, but this slow connection process is becoming frustrating, as I need to be able to connect to the Internet quickly.

I've been having this issue for the past couple of weeks where Internet Explorer starts randomly on my computer and it likes to tab me out of whatever i'm doing at the time. i've done some searching around and this fourm seems to be the most common place where people come to and to use combofix (which i haven't started using and hence why i'm here).
Malwarebytes and Microsoft Security Essentials don't detect anything and for whatever reason i can't seem to get Adaware to run on my computer (best guess is a conflicting issue with Windows defender?) Anyways...
I can provide a highjack this log from when i ran it in safe mode, the logs don't save when i run it in regular mode.
If there's any additional information you guys need let me know and thanks in advance.
Edit: Here's the highjackthis log.

This is a relatively new problem. Every time I log on to my PC, Internet Explorer automatically runs before I can do anything. Two IE icons appear in the Task Bar. The first screen is blank. After a while, it closes when I select Close. The second screen is the usual daily IE MSN screen. I close that and can resume using the PC normally.

Why is IE running automatically as I've described?
How can I stop it?

I run Norton 360 and System Mechanic. Neither detects any viruses, though my tech savvy 23 year old son thinks that's what's going on.

IE is not selected in msconfig to run automatically.

IE does not show in the Startup Program listing.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

A:Internet Explorer runs when PC starts up

You say that there is nothing in the startup programs listing...have you checked in both places? By this I mean under your user profile and the all users profile?

If it's not in one of those places I would suggest posting a hijack this log in the malware section of the site and have the security guys give it a once over.

I have researched this on the site, and I think I have all the requisite updates (java, flash, etc.) My computer (on vista pro, with 4 GB RAM) was showing videos just fine (YouTube, MSNBC, whatever) but now it stops and starts so much it literally takes me 15 minutes to watch a 5 minute video. Needless to say I'm not watching much now. It doesn't seem to make a difference if I'm connected directly or wirelessly (using an HP laptop - less than 6 months old, and as I mentioned, all was fine). It's quite irritating. Any help? As always, thanks in advance, this is a great site.

Hello folks.

My Internet Explorer takes a tremendously LONG time to open up a new window. Once open, it runs smoothly and fast. (Also, My Computer windows open slowly.)

I have isolated what I believe is PART of the problem - ccApp.exe is running on my system. ccApp, as many of you know, I'm sure, is a part of NAV that runs on startup to make sure that all the installed NAV pieces load correctly (or, at least, that's what I understand from Symantec's web site). This includes AutoProtect, Norton Anti-spams pop-up blocking, etc.

When I disable ccApp, IE runs like a champ - fast, quick, zippy, etc. Very nice. When I reenable ccApp, things bog down again. Now, I'm thinking that it really isn't ccApp's problem, as I know other people with it running on their machine, but rather, that it is something that ccApp is starting that is the culprit.

I don't really want to disable ccApp, because when I do, my Norton Anti-Spam's pop-up blocking no longer works.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. (I've attached a HJT log in case anyone wants to look at it.)

Operating System: Windows XP Pro (SP2)

The Problem:

When I open Internet Explorer, it always opens in 'full screen' view and I have to press F11 to return it to 'normal' view. It even happens if I fire it up from a command prompt with :

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"

This problem only affects one user on the system; for all other users IE opens up in 'normal' view mode. So I suspect it is a HKEY_CURRENT_USER registry entry somewhere but I can't seem to find it.

Btw, I did search for an answer on Google and on Tech Support Guy, to no avail, before posting this.

Can anyone help?

Got a friend with a Windows XP machine. Machine is a 1 year old Dell, dual core CPU, 4GB of RAM. They were complaining that it was slow so I went and took a look.

It wasn't really slow after Windows had time to settle but Internet Explorer was taking a while before you're able to browse or connect to any sites.

All other apps open fine right after logging into Windows but if you open IE, it just sits there saying "Connecting..." After a minute or two, IE is fine and running fast.

She's got NOD32 on the machine which seems to take a while to finish loading on startup so I thought maybe that was causing the issue. There's really nothing else running at startup other than the usual suspects, video control panel, sound, etc.

Any thoughts? Is NOD32 known to slow Windows at startup or slow IE while it's loading?

A:Odd issue with Internet Explorer after Windows starts

Yep. Could be NOD32, but it could be other setups or misconfigurations or clutter that NOD32 doesn't bother with.
One way to find out is to remove NOD32, and see what it does. You can re-install it after you have things straightened out.
You might want to use simple old programs like RegCleaner and Belarc Advisor....
Sometimes uninstalled software isn't really uninstalled... and is more like inactivated.
Have you considered using some system Tune Up Tools such as Registry Cleaner (CCleaner), Defraggler or UltraDefrag, Autoruns 10.01, Everest 2.20, or Speccy 1.02...
All of which can help you look at her computer, then be uninstalled later.
Some of these are helpful because they allow the owner to understand her computer visually.

I have a brand new laptop that I just recently purchased for college. I am running windows 7.

one day all of a sudden I was trying to sync a movie to my ipod and it would stop on the movie and my computer would freeze.

I then proceeded to run my anti-virus (eset) and it would stop at a certain point and freeze my computer. i recently then downloaded another anti-virus (avg free) in hopes that it's scan would be able to complete itself and now I cannot connect it to the internet at all, even with hooking manually directly with a cat5 cable.

I tried running the rootkit thing, but it said that it does not work with 64 bit systems

I am having a problem where my internet slows to the point of crawling. Downloads go from 800 kb/s (the norm) to 50 kb/s and ping goes from approximately 40 to 1300 when the slow down occurs. I have never had issues with my cable company for the 4 years I've used them. This has been happening for 3 days. I was about to simply try and reformat, but I heard about combofix and was interested.

Things I have done so far.

Run a boot scan with avast - found nothing
Ran Malwarebytes - found a trojan (sorry don't remember the name) and removed it
Onboard NIC card died in the process so I bought a pci nic card which is still giving me the same issues.
Had my cable company troubleshoot. They said everything seems fine on the modems end.
Secondary computer does not have the same issues using the same router.

Everything I read said to get an expert to help prior to trying combofix so here I am. I did run a Hijackthis file and saw nothing odd although I'm not an expert by any means.

I ran a Norton scan and found that I have a total of 9 viruses, 4 of which are Backdoor.Trojan viruses and the rest are just "Trojans". However I don't know if this is the issue to my problem. Also, a process named s3trayp.exe appeared so I got rid of that and also found it in my registry in regedit and deleted the registry key.

I just want to know why my internet is just randomly restarting on me.
