Make Outlook 2007 save in last saved-to folder rather than default folder

Q: Make Outlook 2007 save in last saved-to folder rather than default folder

Hey there, mates.

Got this small issue, and can't find an answer. Sorry in advance if it's lame.

I have a setup with Windows 7 Pro and Outlook 2007 Pro. When receiving emails with attached emails and saving those attachments, Outlook always goes to a default folder (Say %userprofile%\Documents). Is there a way to force Olk2007 to point to last location an attachment was saved to? I thought it might be W7 issue, but couldn't get through on that front either. Ideas?

TIA!

Preferred Solution: Make Outlook 2007 save in last saved-to folder rather than default folder

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

While opening some external pst folders in Outlook 2007 I somehow managed to change the default personal folders file outlook.pst to another pst folder file that I created called myemails.pst
Every time I started Outlook the Personal Folders would load myemails.pst folder by default instead of outlook.pst
I tried to solve the problem by deleting myemails.pst and I reinstalled Office 2007 suite hoping that Outlook 2007 would be forced to load or re-create the default personal folders file outlook.pst but instead the new installation will not start up at all because it is looking for myemails-pst which no longer exists.
How can I re-install Office 2007 with some kind of switch to instruct it to do a completely fresh install of Outlook 2007 and not carry over any personal settings from the previous installation?

Hi,

My objective is to prevent emails from being sent to certain domains.

I am using the rule to look out for specific words in the address bar, put it into a specific category, then defer the email for 120mins. At this point, the email will be in the outbox folder.

Here is where the problem starts, I want a rule to move these emails in the outbox to another folder, say folder "123". However, I found out that outlook rules only apply to emails that have been SENT out, it does not apply to those emails sitting in the outbox folder.

Can anyone help? Any better alternatives are welcome! Cheers

Email received via an exchange server. Recently upgraded from Office 2003 to 2007. I've set up multiple personal folders to store emails by client and/or subject. Since the upgrade to 2007, replies to messages from personal folders are not saved in the folder where the original message resides. I've checked the settings and they are set correctly. (Tools -> Options -> Preferences tab -> Email Options -> Advanced Email Options: "In folders other than Inbox, save replies with original messages" is checked. This is a productivity killer, having to manually refile all my replies.

User came in with a receiving email issue and to make a long story short I found that his inbox and all subfolders including sent, junk ect. are subfolders of the trash folder.(deleted Items) I tried to back up, clean(glary utils) and reinstall but the backup reordered the folders the way they were. I will uninstall again and hand build the folders and subs if need be but I was hoping someone here might know a fix before I spend 2 or more hours creating and moving from imported folders (home based company with 33000+ emails)

Any ideas appreciated.

Also noteworthy is that Norton failed after the hearbleed patch and had to be completely removed and reinstalled. the reinstallation of Norton was AFTER trying to repair Outlook.

Hi Everyone - great forum!

I use a Local Account on my laptop and am the only normal user. When I right click to save an image in I.E. and select 'save picture as' a window opens with the This PC>Pictures folder highlighted and ready to be saved to.

I then have to navigate up to my Local User Account>My Content>Pictures folder to save each time. When you do a lot this is so time consuming.

Is there not a way to tell Windows, when I right click 'save as', to go to the Pictures folder under the Local Account I'm using? I'd like to know as saving everything under This PC means anyone I let use the laptop can access the files I think..

I've found info on similar things but not exactly this ( I want to avoid using Libraries if possible).

Thanks!

Welcome to Windows EightForums, soulsister.

Administrator accounts can view your files.

Usually one only needs to direct to the folder once initially, then it defaults to that folder after that until a reboot. I use libraries, so that may be true there only.

A:Change the default save as folder in Microsoft Query

well that doesn't make sense, you use MSquery through Excel, get your Data and then use Excel to save it somewhere.

You can Save an MSquery file (.dqy) and then record a Macro that opens it and returns your data and then saves it to a specific location.

Do you follow what I mean? I've done this for years, some MS query's are saved with criteria, or you can replace hard coded criteria ( in MS Query) with Square Brackets like... [Enter Part Number] and you will be prompted works great with Macro's.

Here's my problem with Vista.

When I go into any folder for the first time, it comes up with a set of random things to sort the folders by, and random view settings.

I want every folder to have the "details" view by default. Also, I want the tabs "Type", "Size", and "Date Modified" that I can click on to sort these, with "Type" being the default selected one.

This is how I had things in WinXP. All I had to do was click "Apply to folders" in the folder options. I do this in Vista, also, I do have "Remember each folder's view settings" checked. Yet it makes up a random set of view settings for any folder I haven't manually set myself.

So, how do I make Windows Vista stop coming up with random view settings for folders? When I click on a folder of pictures I still want it in "Details" view, with "Type", "Size", and "Date Modified" tabs. With "Type" selected as the default to sort by.

Yet, it appears in "Large Icons" view, with "Date Taken", "Tags", "Size", and "Rating" as the only sort by options.

How do I stop this madness?

Hi Fmdeveloper, Thank you for reporting it. This issue should be caused by the application need to monitor the destination folder. This behavior causes folder is locking. If you use the Notepad to do this test, the issue won't occur. The request should be an application code request, we cannot resolve the issue on OS side. Thank you for your understanding. I will report this issue to our Office Team as a request. Regarding to FileMaker Pro, it is recommended to contact their support to ask for request. Hope it helps.

Hi folks, got a question re: Excel 2010, running on win7 Pro 32-bit (it's not the machine in my stats).

I looked up tutorials to change the default save folder location for MS Office, and pretty much all of them reference MS Word 2010. Like for example the one in this forum, MS Office Word : Set Default Save Location -- which works fine when I try it, no problem with Word 2010. However, Excel 2010 is being a **** and refuses to following spec.

Consider:
When I click on File -> Options, then navigate to the "Save" tab, it displays a screen similar to the equivalent one in Word... except that the "Browse" button to change the folders is missing.

No big deal, plus the default file location is already pointing to my user folder: that's fine. However, when I go to save or save-as, this is what pops up:

Yea-- no. Why is Excel showing libraries? I don't want to use libraries. I don't want to see libraries. I've used the registry hack from this forum to remove libraries from showing up in the left pane of Explorer.

How do I get Excel to use my documents folder as the default?

Okay, this is not really a problem/question but an idea I am throwing out in hopes that someone may have a clever solution. When I am on the computer, often I have 4 or 5 different programs open at once, moving from one program to another. Not uncommon...I might be writing in word, doing a graphic to go in that document in Illustrator or Photoshop, doing a screen capture...ALL FOR THE SAME PROJECT.

As a consequence, I want to save all my work from these programs to the same folder on my hard drive, but usually each program remembers where it last opened and saved their respective files. Each one could be different. I spend a lot of time navigating from one folder to another...

It would be wonderful if I could "preset" a "project" folder, and then EVERY program I then used would open/save to that folder by default (until I changed it), wouldn't it? Is there such a utility that might do that? Is there some hidden Windows feature that I don't know about that does that? Am I dreaming?

Just throwing it out there...

Why bother with moving the folder? Every browser I've used may default to the downloads folder on the C: drive but also allows you to specify a different folder. I simply point the browser to the downloads folder on my D: drive and oftentimes I even create a new subfolder for that download. Works for me.

A:Will moving Downloads folder change program default save location

It won't normally change the location that individual programs save their data files.
The download location is a setting in your browser and is NOT system wide. You could have IExplorer downloading to one location and another browser downloading somewhere else.

If you want the programs to change, you will have to change each one .

I'm using Outlook 2010 with Windows 10 for my small business.
Outlook is set up with multiple e-mail identities and multiple open PST folders, each one for a different business activity or different group of clients.
Rules for sorting incoming mail into various PST folders work well.
Copies of messages created by replying or forwarding a message in any folder are saved in the same folder, works well.
Copies of messages created by clicking the New E-mail button are saved in the Sent Items folder, works well but I want to use rules to then sort some of these messages from the Sent Items folder into other folders in order to keep all messages - in and out - from the same client in one folder.
So I use Rules Wizard to set up rules to move messages created and sent using the New E-mail button from the Sent Items folder where Outlook automatically saves them to my client message folders but the rule only works the first time, it moves all desired messages currently in the Sent Items folder to the target folder but after that the rule stops working.
Any new copies of sent messages going into the Sent Items folder are not sorted into other folders as per the rules I have set. I then have to periodically manually move all messages sent to each client out from the Sent Items folder into the client folder.
Is there a work-around or switch for this or am I expecting too much from the software?

One thing I like about Eudora is that I can specify the folder where all email attachments get stored. Hello all:

First time poster.

In the folder/tree view on the left in Outlook 2007 (Windows XP Pro) the Contacts folder is not showing up.

In Outlook 2003, it was right there underneath Calendar, which, by the way, is also missing from the Folder/Tree view.

Any ideas?

Thanx in advance,

I'm going insane, and just spent 35 minutes in chat w/MS, to no avail. I am on a clean install of Win10, with a new install of Office 365 with Outlook. Earlier today, a MS tech remotely set up my 3 Outlook accounts. Then she tried to import merge data from my .pst backups. Had problems...something to do with POP and IMAP and other things I don't understand. She ended up adding my external back-up drive as another data source, so I have two XXXX's Folder structures in my new email account. One from My PC and one from the back-up drive. I have been manually copying stuff from the backup folders to the new folders. It's a real pain, but it's working...and I have my data.

My (what I thought was SIMPLE) question was this: In the "new account" data (allegedly NOT from backup drive), I have, for instance, a Trash folder, a Junk folder, a Junk Mail folder and a Junk Email folder. I also have Sent, Sent Items and Sent Mail . All I want to know is what are the default folder names for this version. I'm sure that somewhere, that I can't find, is something that says that the "former Junk folder is now named Trash" or something like that. I just want to get rid of the multiple folders. Is that too much to ask?

When I open my address book in O.E., it defaults to the main identity's (on all 3 accounts) contact list. We always have to switch to "Shared Contacts" which is what we keep up to date. How do I make "Shared Contacts" the default folder?
Thanks!

I have been having a very hard-to-figure-out problem with Outlook 2007. I have 2 profiles and one is day to day on whether or not it sends. It always shows my sent em in the sent folder but recipients claim they are not getting it. When I test send to my Hotmail account or my wife's business account they are not going out even though they are in my sent folder. When I go to my web mail and try the send, they go through. I have tried removing and recreating the profile and things work fine for awhile but eventually I have the same problem. Very disconcerting since I never know whether or not to trust that the emails are actually getting through. Any ideas?

A:Solved: MS Outlook 2007 EM in sent folder not sent

Finally figured it out! My em signature was the problem. It consisted of text for my contact info, my personal picture and lastly a badge representing a hyperlink to my monthly newsletter. The badge was causing the problem. Not sure why because I have used it for over 2 years now but as soon as I removed it from my signature sending returned to normal. Thanks for your help...very strange!

Hi!

I am having a problem with my IMAP account in Outlook 2007. Most of the time everything works well, as expected. I send an email, the recipient gets it and the email is saved in the IMAP sent folder.

The problem I am having seems random as sometimes when I send an email, it doesn't get delivered and it ends up in the sent folder in the personal folders section. There are no errors when it gets sent and I don't notice anything different compared to when it sends properly.

Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi, My sent folder has lost all my messages, (Folder size is 0KB) My archive folder has the same problem. I have checked my Views (Current View = Messages) I did at first import all my sent items from my archive, but i find that that is empty. If i send a new message, the message disappears from the sent folder after a few hours, its does show for a while, then goes. I have repaired Outlook, scanpst both PST files.
This is so getting on my nerves now, can anyone please help

I'm running Vista home premium and Outlook 2007. All the sudden sent emails don't go to the sent folder, they disappear. It seems that users are getting them though. i've tried several solutions I've found on the web such as setting adminstrative properties of the sent folder with no luck. Does anyone have any ideas.

Hello,

My system:
MS XP Home SP2 (fully updated)
MS Office Pro 2007 SP1

Having used Office XP for some years now I purchased and installed MS Office 2007 Pro and then installed SP1. My old settings were automatically updated and all mail transferred into 2007.

The problem I have is this: when I try to move email into various folders I get a message which informs me the folders have reached their size limits and that I should
[C]onsider using the new Outlook Personal Folders file (.pst) introduced with Outlook 2003 that provides greater capacity for storing items and folders.
I fail to understand why, if these folders were perfectly acceptable in Outlook XP, they should be implicitly considered not big enough to handle the amount of mail I have. So the question is, how do I go about using the "new Outlook Personal Folders file (.pst) introduced with Outlook 2003 that provides greater capacity for storing items and folders"?

Thanks in advance.
Lane

Hi Guys,

I've been having the following issue;
My mails are sorted by conversation and whenever i receive something i sort it in different folders.
When i reply to a mail, and i get a reply back. It ends up back in my inbox, while i would like to have it in the same folder as i sorted the original mail.
Is there any way in doing so?
