Unable To Write To Folder

Q: Unable To Write To Folder

Hey guys

when I try to uninstall BitDefender 9 Pro. I get an error message saying "Unable To Write To Specified Folder: C:\WINDOWS\Installer\" I checked and I cannot find a Installer Folder, with or without Hidden Files and Folder on.

Help? lol

[edit] I cannot uninstall ANYTHING through Add/Remove Programs

Preferred Solution: Unable To Write To Folder

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm having no luck making a Windows 7 folder write accessible to XP. I've turned off password protected sharing and given both "Everyone" and "Guest" read/write permission. I can access the folder, but whenever I try to transfer a file to it, I get:

"Error Copying File or Folder - Cannot copy ____: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use."

Any suggestions?

I have recently upgraded one of my PC's to Win 98 SE and ever since then it
has locked up regularly. It's very frustrating. It seems to happen
whenever it wants and it is almost every time the PC is on for more than a
1/2 hour or so. The keyboard and mouse will stop responding and the cursor
just blinks for a little while then eventually the screen goes to blue
screen and shows an error that says "Disk Write Error. Unable to write to
disk in drive C: Data or files may be lost. Press any key to continue." I
can press any and all keys and nothing happens. I always end up powering
down. I went to Technet on Microsoft and I found the exact error in the
knowledge base. However, it mentions that this is caused by use of an
EherFast network card. This PC is standalone and not networked at all and
there are no legacy cards in it at all. What else could possibly be causing
this error? Any help is most appreciated. This is really frustrating.

My computer in Win 8.1; my wife's is Win 10. I have created a shared directory on her computer with complete-control permissions for user BBBB. My computer can see that directory and its permissions, but cannot create a file there.  I believe I should
be prompted to enter a user name and password, whereupon I would enter BBBB and the password. But that prompt does not appear. Instead an alert says I do not have permission and must ask my "administrator." So I ask me and all I get is, "Well,
I tweaked a little something. Reboot and try again."  He and I did this dance all afternoon with mutual frustration as the only result. What should I try now?

G'Day oblysk, Welcome to TSF!

There are a couple of ways that might help you with this issue.

Method One: Remove the registry entry

Warning: Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system.

Please Note: If you had installed multiple CD-writing software products on your computer, you need to uninstall the software products before you remove the registry keys.

1. Click Start, and then click Run.

2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.

3. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

4. On the File menu, click Export.

5. In the File name box, type savedkey, and then click Save.

6. Click the REG_MULTI_SZ data type UpperFilters, and then click Delete on the Edit menu. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.

Note: If this data type is missing, go to Method 2.

7. Click the REG_MULTI_SZ data type LowerFilters, and then click Delete on the Edit menu. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.

8. Quit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

Method 2: Replace the existing driver

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

2. If Control Panel is in Category view, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System.

So every time I log on to the computer a message pops up that says I have files that are ready to be written to a CD. On Startup, Windows displays the "File waiting to be written to CD" message but the folder is empty.
If I attempt to copy a new file to the CD, it casches to the temporary folder but will not write of the CD. Either the "save and retry" message appears or sometimes a "file is wrong size". The file has been identified as CAKTIZWD, which no longer exists on my computer.
I can read the CD but can not write to it.
I am running Windows XP SP2 on a dell Inspiron 6000 laptop.
The CD is OK. I can burn CD's using Roxio.
I have run Mcafee virus scan and System Mechanic registry cleaner in an attempt to clear the erroneous tag, with no results.

I am applying a solution to take backup from clients machine to a shared folder location, the share management will be done through their AD accounts through a backup application.

However, I want to prevent user from accessing the shared folder location and deleting contents
it would be possible to use another account for shared file access but am looking for better option.

if Anything from the following can be done it should be great:
- Modifying permissions to allow writing and modifying content but not deleting
- Disable web access to shared location through windows explorer
- Only allowing access to shared location through the backup application in any way
Really appreciate any help.

A:Shared folder, write but not delete

not done any Active Directory work for a while but I'm sure the delete permission was separate so a deny could be applied the the delete for the group concerned who would have the other permissions, you would need to check the stacking of the actual permissions to be sure though, a deny is a dangerous thing for sysdmins as you often forget what groups you've assigned yourself as for testing

Also it's worth having a look at Sysinternals as I think they still have some advanced AD tools

As most of the others should be possible through normal NTFS permissions and even the parental controls it should be possible using Group Policy

Hi I have a Windows program that is installed in the default C:\Program Files (x86) folder, and of course it cannot write some of the data it needs to write to that folder. I assume that is because of the Windows 7 permissions.
Is there a simple way to allow this particular program to write to its install folder despite permission restrictions? I already moved its data folder to my data partition but this is for some files that I do not have the option to move to another folder.
Thank you.

A:Program cannot write to installed folder

Run the program as administrator. Right click the programs .exe file and click 'Run as Administrator". Then it can do what ever you need it to, despite permissions.

So I was browsing my email and found a msg that I was chosen to beta test the new MMO Skyforge which I had registered for almost a year ago. Excited, I followed the directions to download the beta client file, and when I ran it, I noticed that it was trying to default to an additional disk drive that I had plugged in that was from an older rig build (the only component that survived a lightning strike). It should have defaulted to my C drive but instead is trying to install on the older drive which is marked as F drive.

So I tried to change the location, and I got a msg I've never seen before: "Insufficient permissions to write to folder....."

I'm logged in and ran the program as administrator, and yet windows refuses to allow me to install it.

Is there a way to fix this?

**UPDATE01**: I decided to try and run a command in cmd prompt as administrator: sfc /scannow, thinking that maybe there might have been corrupted files in my OS (Win7 Ultimate 64). sfc found nothing. Still stumped.

A:Insufficient Permissions to write to folder

Right click on the folder, and select properties. Make sure the Read-Only attribute is unchecked/deselected, as it could've been installed as read-only for some odd reason.
From there, open up the Security tab. Scroll through the list of "Group or user names", and look for your Windows log-in name/username.
If you do not find your username there, select Edit... underneath that list, select the Add... button near the middle of the window, and enter in your Windows username, and select OK. Make sure your username is highlighted.

After that, try and set the Permissions to Allow:Full Control. Select OK. If it asks you if you would like to apply settings to sub-folders, then yes apply changes to sub-items.
Let me know if this helped you out.

I have read a number of similar requests for information on the blue screen of death with the message, "Disk write error. Unable to write to disk in drive C: Data or files may be lost. Press any key to continue." I should know that by heart since I've seen it so much in the last six weeks.

The first time it occured I was running ThumbsPlus and had to power pc down. It came up with a new error while loading ME: "Windows protection error. You need to restart your computer. System halted." I went on vacation for a few days and the next time I powered the PC up, it went into safe mode. I ran scandisk, no errors or bad sectors. I went into msconfig and turned off as much as I could. I then went back to an earlier restore point and the next time it came up things seemed to be ok but not for long. After searching the net for possible solutions and trying them out system seemed to be ok and went for 3 weeks without crashing. Not sure what I did right, but I think restoring back to several previous system points helped.

I'm not sure if it's the drive. I ran Data Advisor and everything checked out although I did not run a surface scan.

Whether coincidently or not, I remember doing two things to my pc about the time I started having problems. Perhaps one of them precipitated this problem.

I have installed a new motherboard into a Gateway Solo2300. After installing the board and getting power(the original problem)the laptop gave me an error of "Invalid media type" for drive c. I ran fdisk/MBR. This didn't help. I ran fdisk again and recreated the partition. I ran format c: /u and when it finished formatting I got the error message "Unable to write boot","Format terminated". I can format a floppy without any problems. I had checked the BIOS configuration. Virus write protect is set for normal and the Drive 0 has the correct parameters, clys, sectors, and heads. If I remove it autodetect will find it and set it up properly. This is the latest BIOS on the Gateway site. I even went backwards with the BIOS to see if it would react differently. I tried installing DOS, NT, and 98. All come up with the same issue. They cannot format the drive. I have tried 2 other drives. One is new and exactly the same and the other is a known working HD of a different manufacturer. The dealer of the motherboard says the board is okay if it is able to find and see the hard drive. This is becoming very frustrating to say the least.

Has anyone a solution or ideas of what might be causing this?

I have two drives. The C drive is an SSD containing Windows and Vegas Pro 12 and MAGIX's Movie Edit Pro 2013 Plus. The HDD is a 3TB drive that is paritioned as E, F, and G.

When I render a file, it will render to any folder in the C drive and the E partition. It takes about 1 minute or so for this one particular project. No problems there.

BUT when I try to render to the F or G partitions, I *instantly* get a "Rendering complete" message. There is no rendered file anywhere!

I have made sure that I have Administrator rights to the partitions. I have also allowed "Full Control:"

Still can't write to the F or G partitions.

I also have this problem with Movie Edit Pro 2013 Plus. With File Explorer, I can see the file growing in size as the program's progress bar advances. Once the rendering is complete, the final output file disappears from File Explorer right before my eyes!

I have no problems with Photoshop or ProShow Gold 6 or my other programs.

I am stumped. Any insights?

I notice in Windows 8 slight changes have been made to where screen shots are written to. In previous versions of windows they've always been written to the clipboard with each additional screenshot being overwritten but now in windows 8 they appear to be written and stored in a folder which means you can take multiple screenshots without the previous one being overwritten.

I want to know if it's possible to make that feature available in windows 7 since it was a big leap for me to upgrade from XP and if it wasn't for carrying features over from XP I wouldn't have upgraded ie T800's Folder Options X It would be really neat if they could add that to their utility

You need to take ownership of the folder. Right now it is probably owned from where ever you got it. Why do you need write protection removed?

I tried compacting all folders and even deleted over 20,000 e-mails I had on my computer. Can still send.
Have gone to using outlook express.
If anyone can help me please respond

Hi candy or whomever might be able to help me.......

Im getting first a black screen then a bluescreen with the following error

"Unable to write to disk in drive C: Data or files may be lost. Press any key to continue"...

this error started a couple of weeks ago & is getting worse everyday. I first thought my harddrive was overfilled... but after checking I know thats not the case. I have read others horrid tales of this error... & my abilities are even more limited than some of those that have tried going to bios etc...
OS is WinME 40Gb partitioned to 2 drives with C being
15.9 capacity with 9.65Gb used... and D is 21.3Gb with 13.2 used.
I did a thorough scan disk... nothing shows. I did a defrag less than 2 weeks ago & it was fine then. I will do a defrag after leaving here... anyone have any simple advice. I do not want to fdisk & reformat til i can try to back some of this up... save it somehow...

thanks in advance

I'm trying to install an older version of MYOB accounting software, which I was previously able to install on Win7 Pro by running the installer in Windows XP (SP3) compatibility mode, using an account with administrator privileges.

I'm running Win10 Pro 64b with UAC turned off, using an account with administrator rights, running the installer in XP SP3 mode with administrator rights & I get the following error.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

A:Installer unable to write to registry

Why not try a newer version. All new versions of this software have a free trial period.

Recently installed two LG 22X Internal Super Multi DVD writers in my PC (Pentium 4 - 2.8G / 1 GB RAM / WinXP SP2). The Pri IDE channels are connected to HDD1 and HDD2. The SEc IDE channles are connected to the LG DVDs - one is Master and another Slave. Both are unable to read/write in DMA mode even though DMA is enabled. However, if PIO mode is enabled, they are able to read the data CDs. Unfortunately, I am unable to burn CDs in PIO mode. Pls advise how to make the DVDs read/write in DMA mode.
