Can't create .html File Type or add action to .html

Q: Can't create .html File Type or add action to .html

I am using Windows XP SP3.

I am trying to add an "edit" action to the .html file type. I have .html associated with Firefox. I go to Tools>Folder Options>File Types> and .html isn't even listed! (Nor is .htm) So I click "New" and add the .html file type. Then I click "Advanced" and fill in the action info and hit "OK". Then I hit "Close".

It doesn't work, and then when I go back into "File Types", html is not listed anymore. Basically, Windows is ignoring my attempts to add the .html file type.

I created the .xxx file type and added actions to open with Firefox and Word. It worked perfectly.

So what is it with the .html file type that Windows won't create it or list it?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,My Avira keeps finding daily everytime I scan it.....HTML/Exploit.Mhtml HTML and HTML/Infected.WebPage.Gen HTML script viruses. This has been going on a long time. A:how do I create an HTML email from a file?

If I am understanding what you are wanting, then I am not sure that it can be done. If you are adding pictures in the html code, then just putting the code into the mail client will not include the pictures.

You can open up the html file in a web browser, go to edit -- select all and paste it into the email and it will attach the pictures and the tables. It will not however grab any background colors. This behavior happens in Outlook, Netscape 4.79 and in Mozilla.

Download decrypt_mblblock.exe to your desktop. The complete usage instructions and video can be found here.If you only have a single hard disk with one partition, then only thing you need to do is start the tool.Windows XP users can simply double click and run the tool, Windows Vista, 7 & 8 users need to run the tool with administrator rights. Now it will automatically scan your complete hard disk for encrypted files, when there are encrypted files present it will automatically decrypt those without deleting the encrypted originals. After the decryption check that all of the decrypted files open properly.Once you have verified that the files were decrypted properly you can delete the encrypted HTML files. If you have more than one hard disk or partitions with encrypted files, things get slightly more complicated. Hi all,

I am now using Microsoft Outlook 2002 SP2 with Window XP. I have a small question. How could I make an option for all my outgoing mails (or both incoming and outgoing mails) to be in HTML type?

I hate the type of Plain Text. Sometimes I receive plain text emails and when I press reply button, my replying email is in plain text type also. Now I wonder how I could change the option of MO 2002 so that when I press reply, then my email is always in HTML type no matter the type of the original mail is in.

Thank you

A:Email type - HTML

That's an option under tools if I remember right. One thing to keep in mind, if you reply to a plain text message to a person who only receives plain text they get all the html tags that go along with the format of html.

Every Month, i need to send in a report on what i have done here at work (read: justify my existence). It generally takes me about an hour to do. What i would like to do is to create a HTML form, formatted the way they want it, with text boxes/pulldown menus, and fill in my information, and have the completed form either A)saved as an html form without the boxes; IE:the information gets added into the actual html OR B) All the information gets pushed into a word.doc.
Ultimately, i would like to have it save with something like this "Report-{date or month}.html (or doc).

Hi all,
My problem started a few weeks ago! I caught a Virus and Dr. Web got rid of it as well as some trojan downloaders that Malwarebytes killed.
The virus ruined my Avast as well as Google Chrome - so I installed Avira and Zone Alarm Firewall as well as ZA Forcefield browser. Avira continues to tell me I have a virus and quarantines it. I contacted Avira and they say it looks like a Zone Alarm problem - I contacted ZA - and am still waiting - I also uploaded these to Avira to be checked for a false positive and have not heard back from them either.
I was wondering - if I still have a problem or if this is a false positive?

A:HTML/Infected.WebPage.Gen HTML script virus

A common attack against the web infrastructure can be the infection of harmless web pages. Some malware changes every HTML file stored on the disc and adds a link (very often an IFrame) to a site hosting malicious code. Other attacks can aim for the web servers and try to insert forwarding to the pages hosted there. The owner of these pages is advised to take them offline. Fix the hole (either on his own PC or on the server), check the pages for infections, clean them and go online again. Infected Web Pages often contain additional Iframe, Object or Script Tags. The Script Tags often contain encrypted Code.Special detection HTML/Infected.WebPage.GenSince Avira is making the detection and you submitted samples, I suggest you wait on a reply from them or follow up by contacting them again with a reminder.See this Avira link for a discussion of a similar report.

As my title suggests my bro's laptop has this annoying infection.
I have Avira like my logs will say and the infection seems to be in a firefox profile. (Can I reinstall Firefox to fix my problem?)
I use Firefox but my brother IE 8 (and so IE is default).
At random times and when connected to Internet, a popup appears with usually
a scanner showing you its scanning your computer or ad for bad, virulent AV software. I know it's bad so I click
the X button in corner and it will go for a variable amount of time.
Avira btw cannot get rid of it and in fact does not even find it after scanning with maximum options.
This also happens sometimes much rare tho: A message appears telling I have an infected computer and wants me to press OK and scan using IE. I click X and once it opened IE with scanning screen. I click X ASAP.

One more issue: Firefox sometimes will say "Firefox has stopped working.."
and that it will close. Right away a balloon pops up in tray telling me the browser was closed to protect me from Data Execution Prevention.

Avira sometimes at random times pops up saying Virus or unwanted program was found, right? It asks me what to do with this file.
Move to quarantine
Overwrite and delete
Deny access

I usually picked delete or deny access
It found the virus in this file:

I think this might be in the wrong forum. Its not really an infection, but I'm not sure what it is.

I opened my local disk and noticed this random HTML file in my C:\ directory.

And it caught my attention because it is titled "Mike" and my name is Mike. So I decided to open it and the document looks like this.

I don't make HTML documents, and no one else uses this computer, so I'm not entirely sure how this could have been made, let alone get onto my computer. My only guess is some kind of virus spam joke but I'm not sure.

Any ideas? I'm tempted to just delete this file.

I'm trying to modify an html file via command line, basically stripping out the final "</body>" and "</html>" lines, adding some more code, and then readding those two lines.

I am able to remove the two lines from the html file using "findstr /v", but I am not able to add the line(s) I need INTO the html file, including the two lines I previously removed. I know it's because the lines I am adding contain "<" and ">", which makes my CMD file think I'm importing and exporting. I've tried putting quotes around the line, but still not getting anywhere with this. Here's what I have so far:

findstr /v "</body> </html>" x:\signatures\allusers.html > x:\signatures\header.txt
del x:\signatures\allusers.html
echo <img src="signatures/%user%.png"> >>x:\signatures\header.txt
echo </body> >>x:\signatures\header.txt
echo </html> >>x:\signatures\header.txt
ren x:\signatures\header.txt x:\signatures\allusers.html

Basically, the first line removes the body and html lines from my html file (the last two lines) and exports the result to a new text (temp) file. Second line deletes the original file.
Third line adds the code I am looking to include into the html file, then the 4th and 5th lines re-add the body and html lines.
The last line just renames the "temp" file back to the original.

I am trying to get rid of a few files that are in my temp folder.
C:\document and settings\myname\local settings\temp\temporary internet files\ContentIE
I was able to delete 99% of the files in there but there are a few that won't delete and when I right click on them my only options are to Open, Edit, Open In Same Window, Print, Open With and Send To.
Why can't I delete these??

Any ideas??

A:I can't open html file in IE

Hi Unicorn76,

Welcome to Vista Forums!

Go to: File association fixes for Windows Vista and click on the html option and fix the file association for html files. Once done, I believe IE should be able to open them.

I hope this helps. If not, post back and we'll try to find another solution.

Good luck!

When I used IE, whatever information I downloaded as an html file, it just opened.
Since I use Firefox and Kaspersky, Kaspersky asks each and ever time for every file if Allow or Deny. This is very annoying.
Is there a way either in Kaspersky or somewhere in Windows XP to set this up that Kaspersky doesn't asks or block html files?

A:how to use Notepad++ to view html file

Notepad++ is a source code editor. In other words it's an application that is used to edit the actual code of web pages and other code. It doesn't have a WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) editing function.

If you're looking for a WYSIWYG editor, you'll need to use a different program.

Some Free WYSIWYG Editors:

The most popular that I know of are Amaya and NVU.

I can't find anywhere online that gives me a good anwser. If anyone knows of a better forums to post this in please tell me.

I am trying to write a Logon Script for my network that will display a HTML file every two hours (for security reasons). What I have so far will only read .txt files.

'Declares varibles
Dim objFSO, objFile, strCharacters

'Open the file
Set objFSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
Set objFile = objFSO.OpenTextFile("C:\test.txt", 1)
'To change the file change the path in the line above

'Read the file
Do Until objFile.AtEndOfStream
strCharacters = strCharacters & objFile.Read(1)

'Display the file in a message box every 2 hours.
Wscript.Echo strCharacters
'To change the amount of time change the first number in
'the line above to the number of seconds needed.
I don't know much about programming, most of this code has been copied from other places. Any help you can give will be much apreciatied.

I would like to transform my picture files (JPEG) in the HTML form, so I can encrypt them so people won't be able to right-click on my pictures to copy them.

Can you tell me if it can be done and how?

Thank you

A:How to transform a JPEG file into HTML?

JPEG is an image, you can't just convert it to a text format like HTML. And any image you put online can be copied, no matter what format you put it in.

I tried to change the file extension associations on Windows XP for HTML files to open with Firefox and it doesn't quite work.

Firefox does start but the file does not open and just the path is shown in the Firefox address box. In the Editing action for type:HTML documents I set the "Application used to preform Action" box to
"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" %1

What are the rest of the settings?

Apart from that, would it be possible to set the default for HTML files using the 'Set Program Actions and Defaults' settings? (shortcut in the Start Menu, or go to Add/Remove Programs for the option). There is also a small utility called 'SetBrowser I've use with success. it can be downloaded here: SetBrowser for Windows
