Re: Y-700 Dead pixle. Warranty

Q: Re: Y-700 Dead pixle. Warranty

Hello! Got my Lenovo Y-700 last week, when i booted it i noticed a dead pixle almost in the middle of the screen. What is Lenovos policy regarding Y-700 screens, is dead pixles covered by warranty? I have tried pixel software without luck.

Preferred Solution: Re: Y-700 Dead pixle. Warranty

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've got the same problem. I chat with the customer service. They make me send my laptop Y700 for reparation because the laptop is under warranty. I waited 2 weeks. When my laptop was sended back, the reparation was not done because my problem didn't respect Lenovo's ISO norm for dead pixels. I didn't know what it meant. But I'm very diappointed with this incredible Lenovos decisions !

I have a spectre x360 13-4040nd of which the mainboard died. This happened around october 2016. I bought this laptop in april 2015 but i thought (my mistake) it was april 2014 so i didnt think i had warranty on it. Online support also says that my warranty ended april 2016. When my laptop died I took it to a repair company and they were the ones that told me the mainboard died and could only repair it by replacing the mainboard.  This would cost me around 900? so that wasnt really worth it for me so I left it for a while. Today I was looking for different options for my laptop, like selling parts etc. and somebody told me I still should have warranty on it because it should be 2 years. So my question is do i still have a warranty on it? Also after the repair company opened up the laptop which I also did to check if I still could use the SSD. Is there still little hope left or are there already to many mistakes from my side?

A:Do I still have warranty (dead mainboard)

Forget the warranty. If it were only a couple weeks after expiration maybe a chance but it is like 10 months. And it was opened.

Hi All,  I have a x1 2018 version bought last November. I have taken care of it very well, but I just found a dead pixel on the screen last week. I made the call to the service and sent it to them. But they just called me and told me the repair is not covered by the warranty because they determined that the damage was made by the customer (CID). The cost of repair is more than $300. My x1 has a 3-year limited warranty. Here, I wanna ask for the community or anyone that may meet a similar situation before. How did they believe that the damage is made by me but not a problem of their own product? I am a Thinkpad lover of more than 10 years and it is the first time they refuse to fix a screen and said it is my problem.  Thanks all. I attached the pic of the dead pixel here for your reference. Do you guys believe that such a tiny dead pixel can be made by a big guy?

A:A dead pixel is not included in the warranty?

Often, a dead pixel is considered "normal", but the decision is subjective, based on how noticeable it is.  You can get a 2nd opinion.  For subjective screen issues (dead or  hot pixels, too dim, etc.), I always carry the machine into a repair facility, preferably a Premier Dealer, who does warranty work.  I say that I only want to do the repair if it is covered.  I ask them to look at it with me, so we are looking at the same thing.  If the dealer decides it isn't covered, he doesn't get paid.  At the depot, if the guy decides it is covered, it simply means more work for him.

My U530 is dead - no power.  I have an extended warranty through Lenovo with next day on site repair.  When I contacted Lenovo this AM - Amber - and then her superviser Frances - tell me that they are undergoing maintenance for the next 24-48 hours and cannot even check and see what support I have for my computer (even though I am able to check on their site), and there will be a backlog of support calls once they go back online and can't even tell me "when" I'll get support. I don't understand how Lenovo can sell extended warranties with next day on site business support that they knowlingly and admittedly cannot fulfill.   To quote supervisor Frances "we cannot provide you with that".  I'm retired IBM, guess things just keep getting worse. Even when I get my "repair", it sounds suspiciously like it will get hauled off for replacement parts and who knows when I will get it back.  I will have to read the warranty document in detail - just sounds like a marketing tactic that Lenovo quite simply cannot deliver. Seems like they should provide a reconditioned computer (same or better) next business day and swap my hard disk if they can't "fix it".   Otherwise just send a shipping box and sell cheaper extended warranties.  (Though obviously this will be my last Lenovo).    NOTE:  I tried to "soft reboot" of BIOS holding down the power button while no power cord.  This didn't work.  Why would the B... hey, yesterday i bought a Leno Y50 gaming laptop and while it was ok at first, as far as i can tell...
About 30 min ago i noticed this pixle in the top mid section of the screen, that is stuck...
How do i know its stuck? well, the pixel actually changes colors...
On black background its white, on white background its black, and on colored background
it just picks some random brightness color...
The only color in which i cant see it is Blue.

I tried to fix it by pressure and by tapping, but it appears to have no effect (maybe i didnt do it long enough?)
I tried to use the Java fix program that basically forced the area where the pixel is to shift colors fast and rapidly, did it for like 5 min, but with no result...

Help please...
For how long do i have to keep the "fix" running?
And why this pixel doesnt apply to any standard dead or stuck pixels category?
(dead means black and "hot" means white, stuck means one color all the time... this one i have actually changes colors...)

A:Stuck Pixle wont go away...

I bought a Lenov Ideapad 510 15IKB on 14th April 2017. When I contacted lenovo, they said that warranty is updated in their database but how can I beleive when I can't see this on warranty lookup section of the Lenovo official website. I have also attached the screen shot of warranty lookup page as of today (22 June 2017). Issue#2I registered for 2 year warranty extension under Back To School offer (Ticket Number - ADP-BTS-025399) on www.buyalenovo.com and made a payment of INR 999/- on 6th May 2017. We have a case whereby the base warranty was expired end of 2017 (S200 MT10HQ) , but we have the invoice of june 2018.Now the service partner says, sorry no warranty as it have been expired, the warranty does not start from the end users date of purchase. Is there an warranty law for this in the EU or with Lenovo? We had similar cases with HP probooks which all was excepted with the date of invoice and not base warranty.

A:End user warranty starts from Base warranty or end users date of purchase?

Warranty starts with date of purchase.  You just have to register with Lenovo that you have wrong start date.  I had to do same thing with my niece's laptop.  See below website.  I just had to upload the purchase receipt to get the warranty start date corrected.  Hope the below helps.

I'm In a dilemma with An Emachines T2792 I received the pc from a friend whom knows I work on PC's on the side when I plugged it in I found it to be stuck turned on
The green indicator light was lit like it was turned on, but no signal was stated on the monitor,, then after trying unsuccessfully to press and Depress many times did nothing
so I unplugged and replugged in the same, so I unplugged again, and messed with button some more then replugged in , nothing no green indicator light then i noticed a soft whistling and clicking sounds from power supply, so I got another brand new power supply {correct power supply} when I plugged tower in it lit the green indicator light on tower then softly went out
I tried pressing in power button nothing no response.
Now my question is I am pretty sure I need to buy another power supply now
But I need some ideas on what to replace to get the pc up and running again??
would it be the switch???
or the motherboard????

I had a similar problem with an emachines T2825. When I plugged it in, it automatically came on, and wouldn't turn off unless I unplugged it. It wouldn't POST or anything. After testing everything, I found out that the motherboard was bad. So that would be my guess, is that it could possibly have a bad motherboard.

Had separate issue - couldn't log into to other IDs, fixed that by copying clean DEFAULT from other Win 10 PC. I've done everything I can find, the DISM stuff, the reinstallation of 'window' apps. This appears to be a common problem. It used to work fine some weeks ago, don't know exactly when this started.

I'm thinking the power supply blew, taking the mobo with it. I don't want to spend alot of time on this, but can anyone offer any thoughts on this? thanks.

sony vaio xp sp2...lots of peripheral usage, we have front and rear usb ports, digital cameras, printers, mp3 players
one morning when switching the usb printer cable from the laptop back to the front usb port on the desktop, the computer froze and NONE of the usb's front or back, have worked ever since.

important to note is that we do lots of plugging/unplugging usbs for the above devices

what we have tried to awaken our usb's (keep in mind we are in the early learning stages of computer knowledge...)

static discharge
safe mode reinstallation of usb root, etc
system restore...didn't work...no matter how far back we went

last ditch chance is a system recovery, so we bought an external hard drive and are backing up ( as with everything we do, not without problems, but that is another post here)
in preparation for the recovery

any other, clear step by step advice for us?
thanks in advance!

my toshiba laptop was dead, the powerlight came on, the hard-disk was spinning but the screen remained blank.
I tried everthing , stripping it completely, trying a new ram and narrowed the problem to the motherboard or the cpu. i.e I can conclude that the problem is with the the mobo or the cpu.
This was a month ago.

Today I switched on again and voila! it worked, the bios loaded! I had removed the hard-disk, so switched it off, attached the HD and started it up again.. this time it didn't work. And hasn't since. I have again stripped it down , but it still doesn't work.

there is something like a "hardware reset" available on many laptops.
- try to plug out everything except cpu and memory
- remove the battery and do not attach the power supply
- open the lid and hold the power on button for like 20 seconds
- plug everything back in and try to boot
that worked for me for some compaq and dell laptops which did act like yours

my two cents...

I have owned my Vostro 1500 for nearly a year and a half since purchasing it from the Outlet.  I have had no problems at all until Sunday night when it just died.  No warning.  Just dead.  I first tried these suggestions found here and elsewhere on the web... Press Fn key while pressing power button, reseat DIMM A & B.  No signs of life.
Since it's out of warranty I feel like I have nothing to lose, so this morning I took everything apart looking for anything that looked melted or dislodged or overly dusty.  Everything looks great.  My husband has the same laptop, so I have been able to test the battery and AC adapter and in his and both work fine.   One thing I have noticed though is this.  When my AC adapter is plugged into the wall but not into the computer, the light is green.  The second I plug it into the laptop, the light goes out.  If I then plug the AC into the good laptop, the green light does not come back on until I separate the AC cord from the adapter (brick part) and plug it back in.  This leads me to think that it could be a problem with the DC Power Jack where the AC Adapter is plugged in.  But why wouldn't it still work with the battery??  Why would that cause it to just shut down mid use?  Is there any chance it can be revived?  This laptop has been like my right arm.  I feel lost without it.
Any thoughts and suggestions are greatly appreciated.  I&#... Read more

Hello, Earlier this year I had my laptop repaired due to issues with the touchscreen and mouse. My warranty then expired in the middle of this year. Now the hinges/cover that were removed to replace the screen are failing. (I also noticed that the cover clips were significantly damaged during the repair when it popped off) Do I have any options here to get this repaired? This was something they had to touch to do the earlier repair and something I could not touch under normal circumstances. Does anyone have any experiance with this? I can't find a good way to contact the warranty department due to my warrenty being expired.

so the problem is that about four people went through troubleshooting this PC before it finally came to me. The backstory is one day computer is turned on, hard drive not reading, person #1 gets her to buy a new HD and so they install. Person #1 can't seem to get it to read, so person #2 starts putting software on it. Approx. 2 hours into it, computer just powers off. Person #2 passes to person #3 who says bad power supply and replaces it.

Now, I being #4, have a comp with a new HD and new power supply. When you hit power switch, all of the fans "twitch" for less than a second and then silence. That makes me think bad board, but due to the infinite things other people may have done so far, I hesitate to replace until I'm sure I've got a good grip.

Any ideas? Any direction would be sweet.

Hi all, I've been through 3 harddisks now on my 3 year old system(8800 gt, 4 gb ram, e8400). Every (aprox) 6 months my harddisk dies(I think). On boot the bios will only read my two dvd drives, then proceed to "checking ide drives" and check for abnormally long time, and finally the nvidia boot agent fails to boot and I get some mac adress showing up in bios before I have to shut it down. What can be the cause to all my dying hdd's?

I tried:
Replugging the sata cable and try different slots.
Checking if there is any hdd in under the voltage perimeters on bios and I can't seem to find my hdd anywhere!
Can a faulty sata wire even be the cause?
Help! Thanks

Here's a first for me....usually when a hard drive dies, it's dead....end of story.

I have/had 3 hard drives in my system. A brand new one (80 gig) and since my bios doesn't support over the 60ish limit, I used an overlay program to get the drive recognized.

Before this I also had 3 hard drives, all varying sizes, with no overlay programs.

As each hard drive had an operating system, I could access my bios setup and boot from either of the three.

After I installed the 80 gig with the ezbios (yes, I installed it on the other two drives as well) everything was happy, except for the fact I could no longer boot independently to the other drives.

I thought, no biggie. Still everything happy.

This morning, turned on computer, tried to access the 30 gig hard drive for some files, and the click, click, hard time trying to access, but finally it did......sooooooooo, then I rebooted and guess what....no 30 gig drive.

Wonderful.......disconnected the other drives, tried to boot to that one, no operating system, rebooted again, physical medium error....not going to be a good day.

Tried booting with a boot disk, fdisk politely tells me no fixed c: drive present......lovely.

Downloaded the recovery program recommended by Slithy (thanks, hope you're reading this too) and it would not even acknowledge that the drive existed. The drive was still being seen in the bios, correctly.

Downloaded the Maxtor drive diagnostics and got all the lovely 'you're in ... Read more

Ok heres my issue. I have a wireless lan setup. I am using a Linksys router WRT54GL. This router was working fine for the longest then one night a power shortage hits, it comes back up and everything seems fine. But now my LAN game cannot play.

I had a heck of a time setting it up to play and finally had been using Hamachi so I could create a makeshift VPN and have my friend play with me over the net.

So my setup was like this 2 PCs behind a router played with 1 PC on the internet. One of the 2 PCs behind the router would ALWAYS host.

Hamachi worked perfectly and everything would work so long as the firewalls were down.

Then that outage happened and I could no longer play. My problem is, I cant even play locally so now I know something is up with my router. At least I think something is up.

I have tried everything: my LAN is working, I can share files and folders between the two PCs and ping them.

But as soon as I go to play the game. Neither computer sees the other persons' game.
I am in utter AWE and shock cause I have tried everything I want to purchase a new router to see if thats the problem but I am not sure what to do.

My router allows me to go online, ping the each other and even share files. So I am really at a loss.

Does anyone know any program I could use to monitor ports and whats happening when the game starts?

Or maybe a networking consulting company in the NY/NJ area. Im really desperate at this point and wouldn't mind paying for thi... Read more

Lately, my pc had high temperature problems, obviously caused by lot of dust, stored on the cpu cooling system.
So I decided to clean the mess!
I removed the cpu cooling system, the cpu, cleaned everything, and put them back together. I have done this many times, but this time I forgot to apply thermal paste, on the cpu surface.
After the power on, I got only fan activity, no beeps and black screen only.
I checked the cpu on another pc and it appeared to be dead.

I would like to know: Is there any chance for other parts(mobo, vga card, memories) to have been damaged?

Also, I have a spare cpu, little slower than the previous, same socket although. Is there any danger to damage the spare cpu, if the mobo is already damaged?

Thank you in advance.

I have a:

Dual Intel CPU T2330 1.60GHz

Disk Drives:
Generic-Multi-Card USB Device
Hitachi HST542512K9SA00

USB Controllers:
Intel(R) ICH8 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2830
Intel(R) ICH8 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2831

Intel(R) ICH8 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2836
USB Mass Stroage Device (YES, it is misspelled)
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub

It appears 2830, 2831 and 2832 are not working.

My laptop has two USB ports on the right side, they stopped working last year and was never able to get them to work again.

On the left side I have one USB port and a multi-card reader. Now the last USB port has suddenly stopped working.

The Enhanced USB2 Controller (2836) in Device Manager controls the multicard reader and the built-in webcam. This works fine.

The other USB port on the left side of the computer (just above the multicard reader) does have power. When I plug in my external HD the lights come on, but it will not recognize it as a drive being there.

I've gone into device manager and uninstalled and reinstalled. I've disabled and enabled. There is nothing in this computer's BIOS to enable any USB device. I have updated drivers, I have scanned for hardware changes. I've also unplugged and removed the battery and let it set overnight and still nothing.

I've also added Add the ForceHCRese... Read more

Working on a computer which won't POST. I have it narrowed down to the mobo or CPU, but before I start sending things in for warranty work I would like to find out for sure which piece is dead.

The only thing I really have to go on is this: When I press the power button the PS and case fans spin, but the monitor light stays amber and the CDRW drive blinks. When I swap the power supply, for another good one, I don't even press the power button and the fans will "tick". Meaning that they turn a quarter inch then stop, turn a quarter inch then stop, etc.... When I press the power button with this PS connected nothing turns on.

The ticking makes me think it's the mobo, but I am unsure. Is there anything else I can do to test either piece out? It's a socket 775 mobo/cpu and I don't have another 775 CPU to test with.

I build a computer last December, (see below, this was the recommend build for AMD at the time). It?s been working fine until today, I put the system to sleep for a while and when I tried to wake it, no response so I powered down and did a restart. Absolutely nothing happened. HD light went on for about a second and then nothing. All fans spin and that?s about it. Couldn't get the BIOS to come up. So I pulled the cover and checked all connections and even tried to boot from a different HD. Still nothing. This is when the panic starts to set in.
I decided to try unplugging the system and waiting a few seconds and when I did it booted normal and everything is cool.
Any idea what?s going on here? Should I be concerned that I have a component going bad? Does unplugging the PS reset something? I?m stumped!

Possible the Psu needed to recycle and it would have started after a while anyway but your plugging and unplugging speeded that up is all, but that is what it sounds like.

Hello everyone

I gave my PC to my 13 yrs niece, she used for only 2 days and boom! The whole thing dropped dead

I have been using for almost 2 year without any major problems

The spec:

- PIII 700MHz (overclocked to 867MHz)
- 256MB PC133 SDRAM (was on 512MB but I took out 256MB when I gave it away)
- Motherboard is Gigabyte GA-6VX7-4X, chipset VT82C694X (VIA Apollo Pro 133A) - VT82C686A
- Inno3D GeForce2 MX200 64MB DDRAM
- The rest is just standard CDROM (52X), FDD & 20GB HDD
- 300W PSU, I have taken the extra fan in the back of the PC out when I gave the PC to my niece.
- Was running Windows 98 but I installed XP Home Ed 'coz my niece likes it.

According to my niece - when I asked her what happened? - It was "working fine last night but... not today..." *sigh*, after lot of promises that I won't get crossed if she tell me the true, she said she was playing CD music then the machine hang, so she put restart, done that a few times and then the whole thing gone *sighhhhhh*

Now when it turned on, no signal sending to the screen (screen stay at black - standby mode), although the CPU fan, the graphic card fan & PSU fan still running, the orange light on motherboard is on per normal, no beeping at all from the m/b to indicate that something has gone wrong (i.e. RAM is not working), light in the front panel is not light up, when I press the "Reset" button, I can see the green light underneath the HDD is turn on then off.

I reset the ... Read more

I have a friend whose PC has, as of late, been experiencing failure to come out of hibernation. Instead of shutting down at the end of the day, the user would simply put the PC in question into Hibernation. This could go on for long periods of time (days at a time) without a shutdown or reboot.

The problems started with the resume being very, very slow when the keyboard and/or mouse was used to "wake up" the PC and then, finally, the PC stopped resuming from Hibernation altogether. When this would happen the PC was shut down (hard) and rebooted. That worked for a while, but the reboot was extremely slow or the PC would refuse to boot into Windows. At this point in time the PC refuses to restart at all.

By failing to restart, I mean the PC is DEAD. No fans spin-up when the power is turned on, no blinking lights, absolutely nothing happens. Think "doornail". Without (me) having had a chance to look at the PC itself, my first assumption is that the PSU is simply shot and needs to be replaced (this is an eMachine, we're talking by the way (model and spec's unknown to me right now)).

I have an old motherboard lying around with a CPU/HSF a video card and I might have a stick of RAM lying around that would fit. Could I double-check the PSU on the dead PC by connecting the main power connection to this older mobo to see if in fact the PSU is dead? I'm assuming by connecting the main power connector, that when I switch on the PSU the HSF and fan ... Read more
