How to stop Windows Update hardware driver update

Q: How to stop Windows Update hardware driver update

Hi,
I see that in the Anniversary I can't no more AVOID the automatic search and download of drivers.

I want to STOP this, I want myself to choice my driver and update them.

I read that in "gpedit.msc" > "Windows Update" > "Do not include drivers with WU" > ENABLE

And I did, BUT, Windows Update still see drivers to update such Intel HD, Touchpad, etc.

Why?

Preferred Solution: How to stop Windows Update hardware driver update

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

We are running Windows 7 Pro on PCs in our environment which pull updates from a WSUS server. We recently received our first unit with a 7th gen Intel processor. As soon as I run Windows Update, I begin to receive a pop up that says the hardware is unsupported
and that it will not receive updates. As I cannot simply upgrade to Windows 10 (as it instructs), I need to find a way to fix this. Thanks!

Windows 10 keeps installing the ASUS Smart Gesture touchpad driver on my laptop. The driver is garbage and it runs three memory resident processes, which seems rather excessive for a touchpad driver. The default Windows touchpad driver works perfectly well, so I want to use that instead of the ASUS driver. However, if I uninstall the ASUS driver Windows Update quickly reinstalls it.

I disabled automatic driver installation when I installed Windows 10, as you can see here:

Despite that Windows update keeps installing the ASUS Smart Gesture driver.

Any idea how I can make it stop?

A:How To Stop Windows Update Installing Driver?

Try just diabling it in device manager. It will remain installed, but your system will use the windows default.

I have a Pro Book 455 G1.  The laptop has 4 GB of memory and plenty of disk space.  I have run diagnostics and Antivirus software and SFC.exe just to ensure things were at least okay. This laptop would not display through it's VGA output to a Smart board projector.  I looked at the version of the Video driver and noticed that it was a generic Win 7 video driver.  I selected update driver and it did update.  The system then rebooted and that was the start of the problem.  When the system came back up I got as far as " please wait" being displayed and that is where it stayed... For 6 hours (I walked away for a while doing other things). I loaded a last known good configuration and it was back to the begining.  I tried downloading the AMD catalyst driver to my thumbdrive this time and running the installer.  Same results, "Please wait". These systems are AMD A4-4300M, 4GB 1600-MHz DDR3 with AMD Radeon 7420G, HDMI, VGA adapter Any sugestions?

Every time I try to update PXI Hardware HID Complaint Device in windows update I get error code 80070020.
I disabled my antivirus and tried updating it again didn't help. Do any of you have any solutions that will most likely work

A:I can't update PXI Hardware HID Complaint Device in windows update

This appears to be a process-share error.
I suspect that you may have multiple instances of the same process running and Windows is getting confused.
This is sometimes the case with Malware, and sometimes a problem with an AV - but there are other causes.

What AV is currently installed? What other Security software is installed?

See the advice here Windows Update error 80070020 - Windows Help
follow that, and post back with the results.

If you're still unable to install the updates,
Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data
If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

I just disabled the windows update service which obviously prevented me from downloading MSE defs

Have you tried setting Windows Update to not Download updates?
You could also set it to not check for updates while you are on holiday.

Hi all,

I wanna ask how to stop virus definition of Microsoft Security Essentials update via Windows Update. It's not about bandwidth-saving. I just want to do this via software itself either automatically or manually. How?

Thanks in advance.

A:How to stop definition update via Windows Update?

It's not easily doable - MSE actually does the downloads and installs itself, and the WU entries are a secondary tool.
You'd need to change entries within the Scheduled Tasks, I think.

I am unable to update the Kernel-mode driver framework ver 1.11 for windows 7 for x64-based systems (KB2685811). I get error: 80073712

Also, I am getting BSOD/stop errors in normal mode that say anything from:

-memory_management 0x0000000001a,

- "A device driver attempting to corrupt the system has been caught. The faulty driver currently being on the kernel stack must be replaced with a working version." GDRO.sys-
address fffff88000626a8f9, base at fffff88006269000, datestamp 49b9d125

I'm not sure if they are related.

When I run in safemode I do not get the BSOD. When in normal mode I will get BSOD consistently when running Norton Full System Scan, specifically when the full system scan gets to the Windows/system32 folder.

System specs:
Processor: Intel 2500K Core Duo Unleashed
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-p67A-UD3P
RAM: I have 4x4 Corsair Vengeance, only using 1 stick of 4GB corsair vengeance currently due to troubleshooting.
GPU: NVIDIA EVGA GTX570HD
HDDs:Intel 180GB SSD and Western Digital Caviar Black 1.0 TB (empty)
PSU: corsair 750 watt
Soundcard: MOBO

When I canoo

A:Unable to install Windows Update: Update Kernel-mode driver framework

I, again, apologize for double posting. I figure I should include the host of other issues I'm having. Maybe they can all be inter related.

-my DVD/RW drive, when connected to mother board in ANY SATA slot, causes the BIOS screen to freeze forever. I have disconnected the drive at this time while trouble shooting. I have tried known-good SATA cables so I know it's either the DVD/RW drive or perhaps a driver or mobo failure.

-I have run the memory diagnostic tool in windows. No issues were reported.

-I have NOT run memtest86 because I do not have a disk drive connected.

-I have had stop-errors (BSODS) such as PFN_list_corrupt, System_service_Exception, Memory_management, IRQ_not_less_or_Equal
All of these could be a result of bad RAM.

I have purchased new RAM as a means to fix my problems. It seemed to work for 2 weeks, then the stop errors returned.

I have a P51 20HH and it refuses to update to Windows 10 1903 due to a complaint of an old version of the Intel RST driver.  I tried following all the instructions to update the driver at both the Intel site, and the official RST driver here on the Lenovo site for P51 downloads.  None actually did anything.  They appeared to work, but actually didn't do anything because the driver update software didn't see any hardware to update.  I turned on debug output on the driver update script and it basically said nothing was applied since there was nothing to do. In my case with the P51 20HH, the driver files are all there but there is zero evidence (Device Manger, etc) that any of them are in use.  I don't have Optane, RAID, etc.  Microsoft update sees the driver as an old version so it won't do the Windows update.  Meanwhile, the Intel driver install packages don't see the driver as usable, so it won't apply the update!  It is a lock out.  So, my solution for the P51 20HH was to rename C:\Windows\System32\drivers\iaStorA.sys to something else.   Proceed with caution with this solution, because if your machine is really using RST, this could cause your storage to become inaccessable, which might put you in a bad boot loop and require a BIOS boot to recovery media.  You should absolutely verify that Device Manager (Storage controllers) does not list anything Intel.  Renaming the driver requires admin priv... Recently Windows updated my Intel HD Graphics 630 driver. A few days later the same driver was released on Dell's driver support page.
Is there any correlation between Windows Update and Dell's drivers? Who does update the drivers Microsoft themselves or Dell needs to release the driver to Microsoft?
As this is the first time when Windows updated the driver is this how the Intel HD Graphics drivers are to be kept up-to-date via Windows Update?

A:Windows Update vs Dell Update - Intel HD Graphics 530/630 Driver

ZINGAM,
Referring to the Intel HD graphics driver.
Windows gets code from Intel for the driver and they will implement it in the OS. Dell also gets code from Intel and will release it. Also, Intel will post the driver on their site to download. You can uninstall the Microsoft driver if you choose and install the Dell update driver.

Windows Update is not telling me I need or can update my Wireless networking, but Intel's Update Driver Utility says I should and is offering the update. How would you recommend I proceed?

A:Should I trust Intel's Driver Update utility or Windows Update?

G'day Rolo,

The difference between the two drivers is that the Windows one is digital signed/tested by Microsoft. I would say that unless the Intel one delivers more benefit than the Windows one, and everything works as expected, then there is no need to update.

You often see this with graphics card drivers too, for example.

Hi all

I have a problem which is beginning to make go a little insane.
I have this non stop update almost every time i restart my pc. I say almost because sometimes it does not.
In a normal day, it will install this update about 6 times.

ASUS - Other hardware - Asus Support Device
This is all i know about this update expect that it is being installed constantly.
It never fails and always installs successfully.

I have turned off the automatically download drivers setting and this has done nothing.

Please any assistance will be welcomed.

A:Non stop recurring driver update

Might have solved this for any others out there.
All the tools failed miserably.
Edit your registry: regedit.exe
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\DriverSearching
double tap the SearchOrderConfig on the right and change the DWORD value to either 1, 2 or 3
1 = Install all driver updates automatically
2 = Notify me about installing driver updates
3 = Never bother me again about driver updates <- this is what helped me finally.

I am more than capable of updating my own drivers if and when its needed, so i just went with 3 and windows has finally stopped installing this driver continuously.

Hope this helps others.

On Windows 10 Pro, Version 1511, Build 10586, I've hidden troublesome Nvidia driver updates, using the wushowhide troubleshooter package for Windows 10.

Even with the updates hidden, the next time an update check/cycle is triggered, the Nvidia driver updates are detected and installed. Upon rebooting normally after the driver updates are installed, I see a Windows STOP error (blue screen of death) shortly after signing on Windows.

I can remove the driver updates by uninstalling the associated applications/packages through the Programs and Features control panel. I've also tried to first remove the display adapter in Device Manager, selecting the option to Delete the driver software for this device then removing the associated applications/packages in Programs and Features. As long as I do this before rebooting (after the driver updates are installed), I don't see STOP errors and I can then install an older Nvidia driver that works without STOP errors. If the driver update happens to slip in unnoticed, I can reboot in Safe Mode, sign on and proceed with driver application/package removal, then reboot normally.

The latest (but older) Nvidia driver published by Dell for this laptop apparently works fine (no STOP errors):

But the latest "compatible" Nvidia driver from Windows Update produces frustrating STOP errors, resulting in a largely unusable system:

I've also tried this method to blocking/hiding the Nvidia driver updates, but the result is the same: W... Read more

A:Can't hide NVIDIA driver update in Windows Update

I'm cautiously optimistic I found a reasonable workaround (requires the Pro edition of Windows), by using AppLocker to disallow executables signed by Nvidia to run. This way I can leave the Windows Update service enabled and don't need to constantly fight the Nvidia driver updates that I supposedly "hid" using the wushowhide troubleshooter. For anyone else in this or a similar predicament:

Right-click the Start button and click Run, or use the + R keyboard shortcut to open the Run command dialog.

In the Open text box, type gpedit and click OK.

Expand Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Application Control Policies > AppLocker > Executable Rules. Right-click in the pane on the right and click Create New Rule... In my case, I created a Publisher rule with action Deny for Everyone, and used an Nvidia driver installer file as the reference file to capture the Publisher information.

Create exceptions as necessary. Since I want the older (already installed) Nvidia driver of my choice to function, I created a wildcard Path exception for the Nvidia Program Files folder.

Hope this is helpful...

You can test if you have the latest flash here

Download Flash Player
https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/
I would personally remove Flash from add remove programs, and forget about that site.

   Note
Flash Player is integrated with Internet Explorer in Windows 10.
You do not need to install Flash Player.
If you are using Windows 10 and browsing the web with internet explorer you cannot download a version for that just Chromium , opera and Firefox

If the website is asking you to install flash player I would be very Leary of installing it from their site

Some virus scanners will block Incredimail (Norton)

When I open my laptop lid, it seems like it becomes very sluggish for the next 20-30 minutes. I checked the Task Manager and it turns out that the following service runs at a constant 50% CPU utilization:

Quote:
wuauserv - Windows Update

and only if I stop it things come to normal.

Is there any other way to fix this?

A:How to stop Windows Update service from using up too much CPU?

Well you could open Windows Update, click "Change settings" and select "Never check for updates (not recommended)" in the Important updates drop-down list. It would then be up to you to open Windows Update and click "Check for updates" at times more convenient for you. Of course nearly all Windows updates are released on a Tuesday during the first half of each month, but important updates could be released at any time.

It has been observed that Windows Update became much more resource-intensive after Windows 10 was released this summer. Most who complained were running 32-bit Vista: windows update just seems to hang while checking.

Hey guys! I feel bad just jumping over to this forum and asking for help in my first post, but at the forum I previously posted about my issue, no one was able to find a solution, unfortunately. I was just really hoping someone might have any ideas as to this issue, and I'll really appreciate it. Below I'll give the link to my original thread, as well as my first post there. Thank you in advance!

Is there a way to let me choose what files to update with windows update in windows 10? I don't want some drivers to load automatically, just the windows patches, updates, etc. Some drivers are not working correctly when updating. In windows 7, I could click on the files to update download and install. I also could hide certain files so they never update. I'm new to windows 10 and any help in this matter is greatly appreciated. Thanks

I am using temporarily a mobile broadband service which is very expensive, and is charged by downloads. Unfortunately, this will last for the next 4 months.

So I went in and set Windows to "Never search for updates" or some such effect.

To my horror, it does not seem to work. Every time I log on, it would start downloading a whole heap of data, like Tens of MB in just a few minutes. I looked at the Network Activities on Task Manage ( Advanced Resource Monitor), and notice this download comes from IP address 8.254.26.254, I matched its PID and found a number of processes have the same ID, one of them is Windows Update. The image of the process is svchosts.exe(svcnts).

Am I barking up the right tree, that it is Windows Update still doing its job? Or could it be something else that I am not aware of. I set up the options for my Firefox, Adobe etc. to stop updating, and even disabled their service in "msconfig".

So if anyone else knows how do I kill or stop this download?

Thanks

A:How to stop Windows Update download ?

You can go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Windows Update\Change settings and choose the way that you want to download or not download them.

Shot in the dark here, just living on prayers for this one.

Culprits: KB4035632 ; KB3173428 ; and KB3161102

TL;DR: As subject line, want to keep my version of Windows 10 in some way, and stop the destructive, forced automatic updates. OR Fix the frustrating, user-unfriendly stupidity that is current Windows 10.
When I got my laptop, it was running Windows 8 (which was astoundingly horrible), and got it to 8.1. Then Windows 10 upgrade became available for free so I jumped on it, not realizing the Home edition would get me this problem. Since then, I've wised up some and I've had zero virus issues, zero driver issues, zero hacking issues in Windows 10. It's been the best version I've used so far in 20 years. But I hate updates and generally kept them all off and turned off my virus protection stuff, but a few, occasional forced updates came along the way, minor, no problems.

Then this stupid thing came along, I wish I knew the exact name of the Update. Windows freaks out because it thinks it needs a "Security Update", when in reality it's forcing the next version of Windows on my system. It's atrocious.

I've jumped through all the hoops I can find to stop it, but every several weeks it will force the update on me at a critical moment and wastes an hour of my life performing the update. I've tried:

- Disabling Windows 10 Update and metering connection doesn't help, the updates are already on the computer's syste... Read more

The update failed, resulting in this error message:

Since then, I've been unable to get my laptop to connect through the wireless. Right now I'm running it with an ethernet cable, and I've tried to uninstall the driver and download/reinstall with a driver downloaded from Intel's website, but I end up with the same error message. I was going to try a system restore, but I don't have any restore points to use. Does anyone have any advice?

hello friend..

I cannot update windows 10 to anniversary update. Every time I check for update, this came out

"We couldn't connect to the update service. We'll try again later, or you can check now. If it still doesn't work, make sure you're connected to the Internet."

I am connected to internet, Mozilla firefox is ok, utorrent is ok, everything is fine except windows update.
I have try disable the firewall, turn off windows defender, disable antivirus, none of it work.
I downloaded windows10 update assistant, did not work.
I don't know what is blocking windows update form connecting to internet.

Any suggestion? or perhaps solution.

Thank You.

Can a Firmware Update and/or drivers on printers be reversed?I am new to BleepingComputer, so I do not know which Forum to post this to, as this issue involves multiple forums: Hardware (HP Printers), Software (Firmware & Drivers), Operating Systems running Windows 2000 and Windows XP.At my workplace, we have many HP Printers on the network. HP sent me a link promoting HP Easy Printer Care. I figured I would try it (big mistake) because I take care of all of the printers in our building. So this Easy Printer Care tells me that there is updated Firmware for my printers. So I get the firmware and install it. Of course, HP didn?t really explain how to install it. I had to look it up to actually do the install. After installing it, HP tells me that the Firmware Updates still need to be updated!?!Now the end users are having problems when they print. Multiple users are having the same and or different problems. The problem that has the most reports to me are: When someone is printing a document and they want to change it from portrait to landscape, they click on properties and receive an error message that reads:Function address 0x2e2a5aa caused a protection fault. (exception code 0xc0000005) Some or all property page(s) may not be displayed. Click OK.Then another windows pops up saying: Operation could not be completed. Click OK.The function address is always different (for different users or systems) The exception code is always the same. The User c... Read more

A:Can A Printer Firmware Update And/or Driver Update Be Reversed?

You can go to Device Manager and find the printer and in properties it gives you the option to "roll back" the driver to a previous version. A firmware update and driver update mean 2 different things, to me anyways. My understanding is a firmware update offers "improved" instructions to the onboard chip of the device. What does HP say about the problem?

After accidentally leaving Automatic Updates on, windows installed 17 (!!) updates at a time. Somehow, this caused my wireless modem to stop functioning.

I finally bought a new modem, but unfortunately its installation sticks at the exact same point the old one did, leading me to believe it is a hardware independent problem.

When I run the installation software, everything goes smoothly up until the point when I shut down in order to physically install the hardware. Upon rebooting, the installation is supposed to hand over to the New Hardware Wizard, which it does. However, even when I tell the Wizard exactly where to find the proper drivers, it fails to find them. The only other option the Wizard has is to connect to the internet, which I can't do. After that, it just tells me that the install has failed.

I know they are the current drivers, as they come directly from the company website. I've tried reinstalling the drivers from the Device Manager, but the New Hardware Wizard just opens again with the same results.

The problem only appeared after all the updates installed, so I wonder if uninstalling some of the more recent updates would fix the problem, but I am unsure how to do this. I just want to get one modem or the other equipped with the proper drivers. If anyone could help me do this, I would be eternally grateful.

A:Windows update caused hardware installation problems

Try pointing the New Hardware Wizard to:

c:\windows\INF

This is a hidden directory and you have to have "show hidden files" enabled in Folder Options > View to find it.

If that resolves the problem, make sure your install path in the registry conforms to the screenshot

Otherwise ...
What I would do is run System Restore and return to a date prior to the updates install. This will effectively uninstall them.

Then if the issue is resolved you can go to Windows update and just install a couple at a time and test the results.

Run: msconfig and select Launch System Restore. You should actually see some restore points for each of the major updates.

You can backtrack that way. The last restore can be undone.

I installed a windows vista update called "NVIDIA Corporation driver update for NVIDIA nForce Serial ATA Controller." Now the safely remove hardware icon shows up in the notification showing my hard drive and disc drive. I don't really care for the safely remove icon, but i don't see a reason for me to unplug and remove my hard drive and disc drive. Why is my hard drive and disc drive showing up in there? Hi, I just updated all of my computers hardware.

Now I have:

ASUS M2a VA motherboard
AMD XP 64 5000+ processor
Nvidia Geforce 9800GTX
2gb ram

When I power on my computer, everything goes fine. It takes me to the screen where it says that Windows closed abnormally, bla bla bla, choose safe mode, last known good config, etc.

When I choose any of these, it blinks the Windows loading screen, and then blinks what appears to be a blue screen of death, then the computer restarts.

What's the problem? I have Windows XP Professional installed. I would REALLY not want to do a format and reinstall of everything if possible. Do I need Windows XP professional 64 or something?

A:BSOD after hardware update right after the Windows loading screen

It could be a hard drive issue. If it's looping then the hard drive could have failed or be failing. Find out the manufacturer of the hard drive and go to their web site and download the tests. Then create a boot able CD and boot off it and run the tests.
