Mmm... cookies. Know of a good program to control them?

Q: Mmm... cookies. Know of a good program to control them?

I've got IE 5.5 on my computer, and I don't want IE 6.0, because that seems to cause probs for me.

Anyways, know of a good program that will allow me to accept and decline cookies that I want or don't want? Preferrably freeware, although shareware that isn't annoying is ok.

Preferred Solution: Mmm... cookies. Know of a good program to control them?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Mmm... cookies. Know of a good program to control them?

You could try this although many prefer 3rd party programs.

Tools | Internet Options. Security tab. Custom Level.

Scroll to Cookies, and set to Prompt. There are 2 of them. Apply and OK.

Does anyone know of an add-on or app to control cookies on the PC? So far I was using the native feature of Firefox, but lately it's giving me trouble. So from what I found out so far I have an unusual problem....maybe no but having a hard time troubleshooting and I am almost completely bald trying to find the answer.

So....I have a server running small business which is hooked into the switch which then goes to 10 workstations with windows 2000.

I have cable internet it's run from the modem to a router then to the server. (I believe so but the server used to be unprotected and connected directly to the internet and we had a major meltdown about 3 months a go and had a professional come in and fix it)

Everything was running fine until about a month ago. So I am doing my daily marketing on yahoo. I open up 2 IE windows. One is for the Yahoo Marketing Site. The other is to see my site placement on Yahoo. (that way I make sure I am not spending too much or to little on Yahoo)

The problem I am having now is when I do a search for a keyword of mine to see my placement for that keyword, I don't see my listing. I don't even see my competitors sites, Just a but of really bad choices that have the keyword in it. Almost like it has listed the worst last. Only mine isn't at the end either. So I checked on all the other computer and still can't find the site. I don't see it on Google, or Altavista either.

I go home after work and try to do some catch up. I check to see if I can now see my site listings...Thinking it was a glitch that happened. I have no problem finding it. I am listed right where I sh... Read more

I have officially lost my mind over this! Please HELP!
I have restored my computer back to factory condition several times-from the recovery console that HP has given me of course, downloaded all of my updates for Vista, running McAfee total protection, malwarebytes, and several more to find out what is going on. I have downloaded IE8 but I use Mozilla for the majority of the time.

Here are the issues so far:
-Redirecting constantly(esp. ebay...ads have been opted out of, yahoo opted out, and called several times) Used Adblock with Mozilla and Noscript-but they are still redirecting to sites such as: ad.yieldmanager, doubleclick, admdt.com, omniture, and trust me...tons more-no matter what I use!
-Networking, my son is a big gamer and it seems when he is online...my programs don't run or my computer automatically goes to LOCAL ONLY access if away from it-but in LOCAL it runs better-seems like the programs run better?
-Flash cookies corrupted...when I uninstall Adobe-seems like the cookies are "better" but I need a flash program to run for Ebay...and I have used the Adobe settings manager to delete the bad sites daily.
-Have to disable user account control (UAC) in order for all of my programs to work
-Seems that the majority are from roaming applications?
-This is a touchsmart-sometimes penflicks will just start doing it's own thing...ugh!

The computer then seems to access the Internet about every 30 minutes, momentarilly showing this blank blue program bar.

I have run Superantispywear, spydoctor and used security task manager to limit processes, however I can't seem to find the bug.

My computer has been running rather slow for the past couple of months, and things seem to be getting inherently worse. I am having problems with my internet explorer, and it will not even let me download the newest version. At one point I did a system restore and after restoring the computer to an earlier date it said something about internet explorer renaming some files so they would be kept, that sounded kind of weird to me, but I guess I'm not too familiar with the process. My virus protection programs have been catching a lot of spyware and tracking cookies lately as well. I know something is up, but am not really sure exactly what and where I should start cleaning up. My computer would also not let me run the panda online scanner, it said I must have Internet 5.0 or better installed, which I thought I had, and like I said, I have not been able to download Explorer 7.0 even though my windows xp has been validated. In the last couple of days I have had problems opening some programs I use for work, including ACT! and an enrollment plan I use. Is there any way to "tell" Windows (8.1) which programs are OK to run and modify the system? I get tired of saying OK every time I run one of many utilities like True Image 2013, Auslogics, CoreTemp, CPUz and the list goes on and on. I have UAC set to the lowest level short of Off. I really don't want to turn UAC Off since I keep thinking it might actually catch a bad guy sometime! I have my W7 systems UAC set the same way as W8 but don't get all the annoying popups! Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I was wrong - W7 UAC acts the same way as W8. I had it Turned Off in W7 and turned it on to the lowest level to check but the change does not take effect until the system is rebooted. So...I'll run W8 with UAC Off too unless there is a better way.

A:UAC Control for known good programs?

Hello Ken, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Sorry, but there is not an exception/safe list for UAC. That would defeat the purpose of UAC to seek your approval before letting something run elevated and having full access to the computer.

If you like, you could use either tutorial below as a workaround to create an elevated shortcut of a program that when used will not give you an UAC prompt and still run elevated.

Louis,This issue may occur if the Outlook registry key is corrupted. When other programs try to use the Outlook Simple MAPI interface, they cannot retrieve the required information from the registry. You must first remove the corrupted Outlook registry key, and then perform a Detect and Repair operation to have Outlook rebuild the key. To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type regedit, and then press ENTER.
In Registry Editor, locate the following subkey in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Clients\Mail\Microsoft Outlook
Select the subkey, and then press DELETE.
Click Yes.
Quit Registry Editor.
Start Outlook.
On the Help menu, click Office Diagnostics.
Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the repair.

Important: Above section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. Jon von Tetzchner speaks at Oslo Freedom Forum 2017

?We need to take the Internet back,? said Vivaldi CEO Jon von Tetzchner, addressing the question about the role of technology in defending democracies at the Oslo Freedom Forum.

Jon, who has devoted his life to bringing Internet to people, said access to information is of paramount importance for democracy, and the Internet plays a key role here.

However, he believes that during the past few years, the technology has been misused with the purpose of drowning information in customized ?fake news?.

?The Empire strikes back,? Jon said at the Oslo Freedom Forum, referring to third parties collecting and using people?s data for targeting purposes. ?They?ve been finding ways to utilize the channels that we?ve been building to feed false information in ways that we don?t even recognize.?
According to Jon, targeting is part of the problem. ?The technical community needs to think about how we [can] contribute, and the governments need to think about how they contribute, too,? Jon said.

Hi everybody. Im kinda new here so dont be to hard on me. I have an older Dell pc that I am running with windows 2000. Over the years it has gotten a bit slower and Im sure a little clogged up. I went through my programs and discovered that over the years I have collected several programs all related to maintaining the pc. What I would like to do is uninstall ALL of them and do a fresh install of ONE program that does it all. Is there a program that does it all? Currently I have installed:

System Mechanic 6 Professional
Kaspersky Internet Security
SUPER AntiSpyware
Spyware blaster
Smart Defrag

I also must admit, I really dont have any problems with spyware or anything else. Like I said, a little slower than it used to be. But that is to be expected. I know that there is a new System Mechanic 8 out. I was thinking about upgrading to that and uninstalling everything else. Good idea or not?

A:Is there a good one for all program?

No. I used System Mechanic several years ago. It's not worth the money. Some of the things it does can be done better by free programs and stuff like a registry cleaner you shouldn't use anyway. It's not an anti virus. It has an anti spyware but it isn't very good. And it doesn't have a firewall. Chances are pretty good that Kaspersky is what is slowing down your computer because like most anti virus programs, it's running in the background and all anti virus programs slow down your computer to some degree. You have to sacrifice some speed to get that protection because you'll get infected if you don't have it. With the exception of Spyware Blaster, none of that other stuff including System Mechanic runs in the background so they're not slowing down your computer. Ditching all your security programs just because your computer is a little slow is throwing out the baby with the bath water.

I was wondering if such a program exists and if so, can someone recommend one? I'm looking to clean up some files on my registry. Is that safe? I've already used some programs like Spybot, Ad-aware, Norton and Trojan Remover. But, it seems I still have somewhat of a lot of programs still running in my registry which could possibly be slowing my computer. Any recommendations?

A:Looking for a good program

Hi Chadwick0211,

Registry cleaners are not recommended. When you say there appear to be programs running in your computer and slowing it down, how do you know this? What programs have highlighted them?

The reason I ask is that programs that run in the registry are either necessary system files, optional programs which you have installed or malicious files which have sneaked in. You can damage the registry very easily if you don't know what you are doing.

There are safer things to do with the second group, like stopping them running on startup, and experts here can help you with the last group. We just need to know a bit more about them.

Please look at the following pictures to see each categories from start up, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Context Menu. So I just want to know what program are safe to switch off so I can slightly increase my performance since my computer lags a lot. Also one last question is, is it bad to have both Adobe Reader X and Adobe Acrobat 7 Pro on your laptop?

A:What program are good to have on?

From the browser's settings menu or options, look for the add-ons section to disable or tweak some or remove them completely. Do you have a particular issue with your computer? Ccleaner is mainly use for clearing your temp. files and could also be helpful in removing programs, no other. If you want to disable startup programs which are not needed during booting, you can try MS autoruns or startup lite by Malwarebytes.

I was using Windows Movie Maker before that came with Windows and damn, that's horrible stuff.

A:Need a good encoding program ^^

Do you want to just encode the video, or do you want to make transitions, effects, etc.?

VirtualDub is a free and great utility for the first variant, but I don't know if it supports DV format (guess not). Didn't you get some software with your camera?

Edit: VirtualDub does support capturing video from camera's so you can use it. For the codec, I suggest xVid (just configure it well)

One that lets you create virtual copies of physical CD you can put in virtual CD/DVD/ drives. I had one called virtual drive, but not all my CD/DVD's would work with it. I'd put them in the drives and wouldn't see them/react. I hope the newer ones can recognize more CD/DVD's.

When I used Mac I liked the fact that there was something that showed the Weather with a click of the button (I think it was the dashboard?) Is there a way to do something like that with Windows?

A:What would be a good weather program?

In Win7 rightclick a blank area of desktop, select Gadgets, drag the Weather gadget onto the Desktop, in Tools select your Zip Code, expand it to show 3 day forecast. If you want more detail click on the day. Perfect.

I also use the calendar, and Sticky Note in the Start Menu. No other versions of these are as stable.

If this is for Win8 (you are at Win7 Forums) then you can get replica gadgets at 8GadgetPack - Gadgets for Windows 8
