write access to music folder in itunes

Q: write access to music folder in itunes

Up until recently I was able to import cds onto itunes with no problem - now it says I do not have write access to the music folder and also no access privileges. I have recently changed my internet browser from ie7 to safari - would that have anything to do with it? I have tried enabling sharing on all music folders but nothing seems to work.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Now my itunes seems to not be working properly. I have iphone 3gs and so when I synced it I don't see the music files under my device or my ringtones. It also said that they can't find my music when I tried to download them into my iphone and every time I put new music or new ringtones in my iphone, the ringtones/music that I have gets deleted. For example: I have 200 songs in my iphone but when I want to put just one song in it, The rest of the 200 songs gets deleted and now I only have that one song. And so now every time I add music to my iphone I would have to add the songs back into the iphone. I would also have to do it to ringtones too and I'd have to manually add them in because if I don't it would never be put into the iphone. So yeah, I'm not too good with itunes because it's too complicated and this is the first time I've ever had a iphone so I'm really confused how to use itunes. Oh and my library music files doesn't automatically update when I add new music so I would have to do the same as I did with my iphone. I'd have to delete, add the files again, sync and so on...

My itunes is up to date, my folders aren't hidden because my music folder and ringtone folder are under my library but not under my device.

I uninstalled itunes and reinstalled but its still the same.

I don't know what to do!! Help please??

Thanks

Trying to install iTunes and I get an eror message that it can't set up iTunes folder in the default My Documents/My Music folder.

It turns out that I DO have that folder (and I even have music in it that I can use), but the iTunes setup program can't seem to find it. iTunes recommends using TweakUI to change the "Special Folder" for My Music...but it turns out that the My Music folder doesn't exist in the pulldown list inside TweakUI either.

So...is there a way to formally restore that folder so that either TweakUI or iTunes can recognize it?

Thanks

I have a few music videos I want on my iPod - I drag them into iTunes and they are automatically put into 'Movies'. So far the only way I've been able to move them into the 'Music Videos' folder in my iPod is by individually changing each file in iTunes from 'Movie' to 'Music Videos.' there must be a way I can speed this process up.

How would I get iTunes to recognize several of these videos as Music Videos, rather than Movies?

Thanks,
JTN

I have a large music library on an external WD book disk. The iTunes database files sit in My Music on the computer c: drive.

Last week, as I sat admiring my MUSIC RECENTLY ADDED smart playlist, I did something stupid and about 200 newly-added files vanished (the other 200 in the playlist were still there). I frantically searched for them in the iTunes Music library - gone, but found them all in the Recycle Bin!

Here's where I made a dumb mistake - I simply told Recycle Bin to restore them to their original location (in the iTunes Music folder on the external drive), and that's where they are, scattered all over the 1TB drive. Trouble is, iTunes doesn't know about them, they have been deleted (no sign of them in the database). Here's my question:

How do I re-index the WD drive without destroying a couple of years of carefully edited music data in the iTunes database indexes? In older versions of iTunes you could re-index in place, but that seems to have gone away.

Any ideas please?

Hi Wahoo.

Not sure if you'd have a backed-up version on the iTunes Library file, but you could recreate from there if you have?

I'm running windows vista on a dell xps m1330. I've been trying to reduce the used space on my hard drive and locate what is using up most of it. It appears that the cause is my Itunes Music Folder. The first time i checked the size that the folder was, it said 97 GB. So I looked through it and the size of individual folders did not seem to add up. Then I checked the folder size again and it had changed to 47 GB. Does anybody have any idea what might be causing this?

This may sound stupid, but what happens if you just delete that \Video\ folder? Does it get recerated? If not, that may be the easy fix. If not, you can try changing permissions for that one folder.

Hi all,

Im not sure if anyone else has had this problem or noticed it, but I have enabled the GPO prevent users from adding files to the root of thier users files folder on our network as we use folder re-directs to my documents which in theory should keep everything tidy. This works up until a point, if I try and browse to the location and create a file I cant. If I try and drag a file into that location I cant, but as soon as I try to save as it lets me - any ideas why this would be?

A:Disable write access to personal folder (root location of user area)

It only affects Windows Explorer not applications using the win32 file APIs. Which is why it resides within the "Windows Explorer" group policy tree.

Having a real problem with this.

Got a new PC earlier this week to replace a laptop that was stolen. It runs Windows 7 home premium. Basically the setup is this.

iTunes used to store and organise all music.
All music stored on external harddrive connected to PC via USB 2.
iTunes music also working through Squeezebox in living room and bedroom squeezebox radio. No problems at all.

Problem is, I want to listen to music on my Xbox whilst playing games. However everytime I activate media sharing, and get media center to monitor my folders I cannot start iTunes.

I get an error message as described in the subject line of this post. I got it the first time earlier this week and the only way I could get iTunes working again was to completely reinstall windows. All was fine until I set up media center this morning, and now I get the same error!

This is REALLY annoying and I wonder if anyone can advise?

Thanks in advance.

When I access my Music files (2600 files, 185 folders, 20GBs) on my Samsung (D) drive
I get this slow green line in the address bar going from left to right, takes like 15 seconds to go across, I'm assuming it's indexing(?) the music folder and can't really do anything until that green line finishes going across, is there something I can turn on or off to speed up the "green line" so I do not have to wait the 15 seconds?
Would a SATA 6.0 drive help speed up the "green line"?

A:Slow folder (music files) access (green line)?

What anti-virus are you using?

I use Microsoft Security Essentials and it was slowing down browsing with Windows Explorer dramatically. I would see the green bar you mention all the time, just as you stated.

I went into MSE and changed Real Time Protection in the Settings tab under Monitor file and program activity on your computer to Monitor only incoming files and the problem disappeared.

I'm still reasonably protected but system performance has gone up considerably. I'm also behind a hardware firewall.

This wasn't always the case but has been for the last 9 months or so until I made this change.

You can't transfer non purchased music to iTunes from your iphone, you will have to import it from another source. For the music purchased from the iTunes store there are two ways to do it. The easiest is to authorize the computer in iTunes and redownload the purchased items. Here's a link that explains both options. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201267 .

So i am lookin at my itunes library and i wanted to see where all the songs were that were NOT downloaded through itunes. I only have a few that werent because i recently formatted my hdd and installed windows 7. I transfered a few songs over and they are in itunes now. What confuses me now is that these songs are located in C:/documents and settings/.../my music/... and i cannot access this folder. Now i did a quick googling about the issue, and i get the idea that they are "junction points" and dont really exist.

So my question i guess is how in the hell did i transfer songs to a "junction point" that doesnt exist? im pretty sure these songs were transfered using a wireless network(which was a pain in the *** in itself to figure out with the "sharing" and what not) i honestly dont remember how i did it, but i THINK i did these that way. Actually now that i think about it, i could have just replaced my library with a saved itunes library file which i did and that ended up giving me a bunch of songs in my itunes library that could not be found. Understandably because they arent on this fresh HDD. But either way THESE few songs in question ARE on the hdd.. supposedly in My documents but that cannot be possible right? isnt My documents just a pointer to a different location on the hdd? if so why doesnt it show me the ACTUAL location. At this point in time everything in my iTunes library was still there. I shut down iTunes and ran the installed for Cyberlink DVD Ultra, the installation went ok as it seems. So I opened and ran the Cyberlink application and watched a couple minutes of the movie. At this point I closed the DVD player and opened up iTunes again to watch the same movie, however everything in my iTunes Library was gone. The files were also gone from the hard drive. I?m in the process of trying to recreate this but my first question is has anyone experienced their iTunes library going missing due to iTunes or to Cyberlink DVD Ultra, or any other part of that process in general? My second question is has anyone gotten iTunes to give you a re-download of all your music a second time. A:All iTunes music lost....please help

Hello PBJSawyer, Welcome to TSF!

The short answer to your question is NO!
The files might have been accidently erased by another user of the computer.

You could try a System Restore back to a time/date before this occurred....
Go Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore...follow the on-screen prompts to restore the system back, say, 3 or 4 days and see if that helps.

Post back with the results.

Help! I've recently discovered that iTunes has been seemingly randomly deleting music off of my computer! Just today I went in to listen to a song, and all of the songs by that artist were missing (save for one album). These are all unprotected, mp3 files which were ripped from CD (however, this problem has happened with downloaded music as well). I store all of my music on an external Iomega USB2 120GB drive. I've done searches to find the music and unless iTunes renamed it to something weird and put it in some folder in the depths of my computer, I'm pretty sure it's been deleted. I'll also point out that this has happened with other artists, but only select songs from an album were deleted. The pattern for deleting seems completely random, and songs that are often played and not often played are just as likely to be deleted. Any advice would be really appreciated, thanks!

A:iTunes deleting my music?!?!

Hi moww, when you went to play the song, your external drive was on and mounted at the time correct? iTunes should not be deleting your songs from the drive...does anyone else use your computer/drive that could possibly be deleting those songs? Is your drive in good condition (ie. a known good drive?) What version of iTunes are you using?

A suggestion I would have is try going into your Preferences (Edit -> Preferences -> click on Advanced tab) and look for the path that it says there as in my example below..

Is there any way to go through and clean out all of the files not in my iTunes right now, without doing it manually?

OK, after about 4 hours of updating to ios5 on my iPhone 4 the only thing left to do is transfer my music from Itunes to iPhone as it is "lost". When I try to drag and drop from itunes to iphone I either get the "no entry" sign or it will not even drag anywhere. I am using the same Windows 7 PC and same iPhone 4, trying to move the same albums as before.
Can anyone help. Whoever said having an iphone was easy....

You don't drag and drop. Click on the iPhone on the left, then click Music along the top, and select what you want to sync.

I don't like iTunes 7 because of the way it organizes podcasts so I've stuck with iTunes 6 and now whenever I try to access the Podcast Directory (or the Music Store at all) I recieve the following error:

"Could not complete the Music Store request. The store may be busy. Check your internet connection or try again later."

I can still update my podcasts but can't find new ones.

Is Apple no longer supporting iTunes 6 already? or is there another problem?

thanks,
JTN

A:iTunes 6- no more music store

I noticed the same problem using itunes 6.something under crossover office (a windows emulator for linux). Searching the crossover archives turned up the following link:

http://crossover.codeweavers.com/pipermail/discuss/2007-January/010409.html

which basically says that the crossover team believe that Apple now prevents the older versions (older than 7.0 that is, I presume) of iTunes from accessing the iTunes store.

I would guess this is to force users to upgrade, so they don't have to support too many versions.Too bad the error message isn't more informative (as in: this version is too old to access the store).

Cheers,

Losher

Windows 7 Ultimate

I updated my computer last night with a system update, driver update and iTunes update

My computer still works fine and 100% except for music in iTunes.
When I click to play a song, it doesn't play and just stays at 0.00
Although, movies in iTunes still work.

Help please?

Does Windows Media Player work? Can you hear sound on YouTube? There was a Windows update from yesterday that caused my sound to stop working. I just went back to the previous restore point. Everything is working again.

I want to get my iTunes music library onto my new computer....

I'm going to start using a new Windows 7 computer. I have iTunes on my old Windows Vista computer. I have an iPhone 4.
I have iTunes ready on my new computer but I don't see a way to transfer my iTunes music library over to the new computer's iTunes. If I could just get my music onto the new computer without having it end up in iTunes that would be okay.
I could then manually transfer the music into iTunes afterward.

Anyone game on helping me?

Thanks

Karen

Is it possible to swap Itunes music between 2 PC's? I'm taking one out of service because it's really old, and building another one, and I'm going to use the hard disk from the old one to use as the hard disk in the new one. Would it be possible to swap the music from the one computer to the other computer?

I'm having a problem with my itunes music disappearing. One day it's there, the next, it's all gone and looks like you downloaded iTunes for the first time. Have you seen this problem before?

A:iTunes Music keeps disappearing

do u have an ipod or device like that attached to your compuer?

if you do it could be autosyncing itself and deleting all of its music because the device has no music on it.

if that is not the case

check to see if auto sync is turned on, turn it off if it is and just manage your files by hand

Hi,

I've upgraded from an old XP computer to a new one running Windows 7, I copied my itunes folder which is nearly 80gb onto a portable drive and copied it into the new pc.

When I open itunes it shows all the albums and tracks but when I try to play it says they're not there. The size of the folder is the same as the old one but when I open any album folder there isn't any music files there. So I looked in the album folders on the old computer and there isn't any in there either, yet if I play a track in iTunes it plays normally.

I'm at a complete loss as to what is going on and would appreciate any help

Thanks
