I port-forwarded, enabled DMZ, disabled firewall, and port is closed

Q: I port-forwarded, enabled DMZ, disabled firewall, and port is closed

So I'm not exactly sure what information I need to share to resolve this issue or know how to fix it. I've been trying to open this port (7198), and no matter what I try it just won't open. I'm not exactly sure how to explain the problem, but the title pretty much says all. If there's any information I need to share please tell me.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello all. I was talking on skype and lost internet connectivity while talking. I received the error above (Firewall Settings HTTP (port 80) HTTPS port 443 FTP port 21 error message). I am running a laptop with windows XP and IE 7 and my antivirus is AVG and I also have Ad-Aware.

I'm not much of a computer person but I did some research online and tried a few things: I turned off the option on skype's advanced settings for it to listen on Port 80 and then rebooted. I also ran a command, 'netstat -aon' and did not find a listing of 1270.0.1:80/443 or 0.0.0.0.80/443 which seems to imply that nothing should be affecting port 80 or 443.

I also downloaded firefox and it cannot access the internet either. The only way I'm able to access the internet at the hotel I'm located at was to call the hotel's tech support and they had me go into the LAN settings of internet options and manually select port 8080.

Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Mike

I have suddenly gotten this on my main computer. (Windows XP)
A previous techguy thread (expired) said to check my dns numbers with "jpconfig /all"
However, my computer will not allow me to run that program in safe mode.
Is it a bug issue... or will that program only run in full mode?

Dear mulebit,
It actually is " ipconfig /all " i.e replace" j"with "i".Please go to command prompt under Start--> Programs-->accessories. No need for "safe mode" to carry out this task. Can you kindly provide details of your computer specifications? Are you using a third party firewall and if so which brand? What security software are you running?

Hello!

I'm puzzled. If I turn off windows firewall I can hit the FTP server from the WAN fine and even from the LAN. Turn the firewall back on and that port is blocked! When I installed IIS for the FTP server I added (ticked the boxes) for FTP Server in the firewall.

The $64,000 question is this; why is the firewall being a pest?

Thanks!

Hi,

I saw this problem listed, but My issue is a bit different and the previous solution didn't work for me.

Please forgive me if any of my posts offend, as I am new to this site. I don't intend to be rude, but my ignorace may anger some. Also forgive the length of the post, I wish to be thorough as to avoid getting possible solutions that I have already tried or are not relavent.

I recently had some repairs done on my computer which involved reformatting my hard drive and when I got it back started having trouble accessing some internet sites. Unlike the previous person's post with this issue i can still access the internet and 95% of sites, but a select (and seemingly random) few give the IE cannot access website error. When I run the networking Diagnostics for Windows XP get the following error:

Check the Firewall settings for the HTTP Port (80), HTTPS port (443), and FTP port (21)

The only firewalls I know of on my computer are Windows and my router (both of which I have disabled) i have also tried Firefox and it craps out at the same exact sites.

In addition to selected sites, some third party programs are having trouble accessing the internet. This includes Nortons Installer (I haven't been able to install my antivirus yet because of this error) and I haven't been abble to register Microsoft office after I installed because it cannot access the internet for ID Key Verification.

Hi

I'm currently developping a Java application to send SMS messages. This can be done by a SMS modem. I will not go into detail about the program, because that ain't the problem.

The SMS modem will be attached to a server in the server room where another Java program will go through the database to see if any sms messages needs to be send.

So the SMS modem will be locked in the serverroom. Now sometimes (eg. when something is wrong with the modem: deactivated, disabled, ...) I need to connect from a workstation to the terminal (Via java program).

This will be done via a socket with port 4444.

I'm now testing between a laptop and a desktop and i'm trying to make a telnet session from the laptop to the desktop (which resembles the server in a later stage) on port 4444.
There are no firewalls enabled on the laptop and desktop (So all ports should be open???)
I can't get a telnet session on this port 4444, but I can get a telnet session on the list of ports (which I got from the command netstat -an).

I have a java test application to make a connection. Same here, connections can be made from the laptop to the desktop to the ports which are in the list of netstat -an.

Now my question: How can i get this port 4444 to listen to a telnet session(without the firewalls)?

Thanks in advance!

[Edit]Problem solved after rebooting. Disabling of firewall had effect after a reboot or something ^^[/Edit]

I'm developing a Java application for which I need a port to be unlocked; for this I chose port 2772. However, regardless of port forwarding within the router the application fails and online (canyouseeme.org) and offline (Simple Port Tester) state the port is closed. I've connected my pc directly to the modem without router, forwarded on the modem with my new IP address and it worked just perfectly; when the router is in between it doesn't.

My router is a NETGEAR WNDR3700v2.

My pc has a static IP of 192.168.1.150. I forwarded port 2772 to 2772 to this IP both TCP and UDP.

Hello guys, I hope you can help.

I've tried to forward some ports on my router (I did this many times in the past), but apparently I can't get it working. I just installed win 8.1 so I'm kind of a newbie here and this may be the reason?

Anyway, first take a look at the screenshot attached. It's a screen from my router TD-W8960N

The IP of the pc I'm trying to allow the traffic through is 192.168.1.115 obviously.

I've even tried to enable DMZ (with no avail) and disable win firewall. No matter what I did, ports remain closed.

Thoughts?

Hi all,

Recently, I cleaned my computer of some pretty intense trojans. It led to me doing a system repair with a Vista repair disc (yes, I'm running Vista) and numerous virus scans using Malwarebytes', Hijack this, etc.. The problem that I am having now is that since I got this virus, I have not been able to run any updates on basically any software. I believe this is because all of my internet ports are blocked (telnet localhost PORT returns with an unable to connect no matter what, also ran a check to see if any ports are open and they are not).

This has been stopping updates to my anti-malware software, etc. I'm having one last problem. My scans (I run them frequently) always uncover a DLL that my anti-virus software says is malware, but can't remove before rebooting. I assume it is added to the delete on reboot list and then it tries to delete the DLL, but I always see it when I rerun after the reboot.

EDIT: Actually it's a sys file (I was referring to it as a DLL by mistake) The name of the SYS that it finds is \windows\system32\drivers\wfvgmvxa.sys

Anyway, thanks for help that you can give me. Hopefully there's a solution out there that doesn't involve me reformatting my whole system.

Hey Guys,

I noticed many applications have different ports for outbound and inbound traffic. Does outbound traffic need to be port-forwarded if you are behind a router? I know that inbound does, but outbound?? Thanks.

A:Solved: Does outbound traffic need to be port-forwarded on a router?

In the context that you're speaking of: No.

Generally firewalls have a state table. The state table inspects the IP headers of a packet to look for the source/destination port. When you create this connection an entry is stored in the state table that will allow traffic in/out on the source/destination pair.

Hey all so I have forwarded some ports on my router with Airport Utility (NAT port forwarding), but using cmd netstat -n the ports I forwarded aren't listed and using online port checkers confirms they are closed. I added exceptions to my firewall (even though it is off), and windows defender is off, and Avast's shields are all off. I honestly have no idea how to open the ports up and haven't found a way to do this using Windows 8 (not pro).

Anybody have any ideas? It seems like Windows 8 is blocking these ports from opening for some reason. There doesn't seem to be an override function in cmd to open them, either.

In case you're wondering why I need the ports open, I'm trying to resolve a "request timeout" error when pinging somebody on Hamachi - so I'm trying to open the main ports Hamachi uses (I just want to play Terraria, man).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, this has me baffled. My Bell Internet Security Services Activation (I just installed it on a computer not used for some 4 or 5 months) popped up a window saying "Waiting for Internet connection"...and waiting and waiting. But my Netgear wireless connection to the router in the house indicates "very good" signal strength, which I thought meant I was connected. Obviously not!

I tried opening IE. "Internet Explorer cannot display the web page" (much as I expected)

Clicked the button which was showing on the IE cannot connect page "Diagnose connection problems" and followed the instructions. The final diagnostic is "Windows cannot connect to the internet using HTTP, HTTPS or FTP. This is probably caused by firewall settings on this computer. Check the firewall settings for the ports HTTP...etc." Where on this earth are they?!

I checked the Windows Firewall settings and found it "off (not recommended)" so I switched it on.

I re-ran the diagnostic on the IE page and nothing has changed.

My question is:

How do I check the settings for HTTP port (80) and HTTPS port (443) and FTP port (21)? Also what do I set them to?

Many thanks, in advance, for a solution to my problem!

So you just installed an Internet Security Suite which has a Firewall built-in and then you enabled XP' built-in firewall? I am baffled as to why you would do that. The new software you installed has to be blocking it somehow. I would search their website for known issues.

Open Windows Firewall by swiping in from the right edge of the screen, tapping Search (or if you're using a mouse, pointing to the upper-right corner of the screen, moving the mouse pointer down, and then clicking Search), enter firewall in the search box, and then tapping or clicking Windows Firewall.

Tap or click Allow an app or feature through Windows Firewall.

Tap or click Change settings.  You might be asked for an admin password or to confirm your choice.

Tick the check box next to the app you want to allow, select the network types you want to allow communication on, then click OK.

Several days ago Shieldsup showed all my ports closed. I figured good deal! However, today it shows port 443 open. Do I care? Have never seen 443 open, ever!

The only thing questionable I've been doing is playing around trying to get a friends old "b" router working with out success (be bought it at the Goodwill !?!?) then I went back to my new Netgear wndr4300 dual band "n" router. everything seems to work fine.

I have not done anything in my router to close/open specific ports.

Can't fine any info online on whether I care about this or not. I know 443 has to do with something about secure port authentication for online shopping/banking, etc.

edit: I just went into the router and cleared the PPnP table and disabled PPnP. It had reference to port 443 and now Shieldsup shows 443 in stealth mode! NOW THE QUESTION IS, DO I WANT PPnP enabled or not? I have a USB printer networked to a remote laptop which also wants to see hard drives on the tower (the machine I'm using). I also Skype occasionally. Don't know if this stuff matters.
thanks.

A:Port 443 - do I want it open or closed?

port 443 is used when you surf to a https site. ( which is different from http ) Https does encryption so that no one can intercept your traffic or modify it. However note that port 443 is used on their side, not your side. Your browser can use any port to talk to their port 443.

Having your port 443 open is strange. As that means someone can talk to your network using encryption. UPnP stands for universal plug and play. Programs can use the UPnP protocol to request the router to open and forward ports. Like a multiplayer internet game can open ports on your router so that other players can join in. Now the trick is finding out which program of yours asked the router to make that hole in the wall.

I was running a port scan, and every port was blocked besides port 25 which said closed, Screenshot: Screenshot by Lightshot

Is that a good or bad thing?

A:Port 25 closed, good or bad?

Port 25 is the common port used by SMTP email servers. If you do not run an email server then it should be blocked. Malware can use this port to send email from your computer, zombie fashion.

You should investigate why this comes up. Is the port scan you are running on the internet? If so your isp may be doing something to make it closed vs blocked. Closed means your IP address responds to a port query, blocked means it does not respond at all (this is preferred).

Hi all

Question.
I am trying to make sure any outside access to my network is eliminated.

I did a port scan of my network behind my router and it shows that port 80 is open, of course I need that for internet. But it is also showing port 23 Telnet is open.

I used Advanced Port Scanner v1.3.

I then used it to scan my specific WAN ip and it shows both the same ports open,
23 and 80.

I have gone into Windows Services and made sure the Telnet service is disabled, but am worried with this open port, someone can gain access.

Is there something else I can do? Gonna try shutting off port 23 Telnet in Windows firewall. That's the only thing I can think of.

I have a question to pose.

Beyond 3rd party firmware,
is there a way to stealth port 0-1 on a
DIR-825 B1 Port 0 and 1.
I have owned a number of Dlink gateways,
and I could always get the settings to stealth.
Port 0-1 is and issue with this router for stealthing.
any ideas?

have owned:

All have been stealthed.

Dlink per fourms claims this is a non-issue due to

If a port can be found, closed or not, sooner or later
some one is coming in on another port.

The server platform is NT4 and I have checked the box in the network control panel to enable all ports TCP and UDP. That did not solve the problem.

Any suggestions?

Bryan

A:Exchange Server Port 110 Not enabled

110 is for POP mail. Exchange by default uses SMTP on 25. If you have a firewall open up the correct ports in both directions.

I'm not sure if this is where it should go, but anyways...I'm using a D-Link router (DI-624) and I'm having issues with the W3 ports. I did all the portforwarding, however my ports seem to be on stealth. I also use Comodo firewall, and disabled it to see if things would be better, but the ports closed when I did. Anyone know how to open the ports?

Thanks in advance!

I've read similar threads, but I have not found an answer to my particular question.

I have a Fujitsu desktop, runs on windows XP and the USB ports were disabled by my kid! (Both the keyboard and mouse connect via USB).

I considered getting a USB PS/2 converter in order to use the keyboard to re-enter BIOS at start-up (holding down the Delete key, as it says to do on screen at start-up). Unfortunately, there is no PS/2 port.

There is an auxiliary port that may be similar (it has 11 or 12 pin hole openings).

Any help would be very appreciated!

I am a noob, so please explain any jargon please!

Thanks!

-Ben

A:USB port disabled in BIOS, No PS/2 port, can't access BIOS!

If you remove the CMOS battery, your BIOS should revert to default settings and your keyboard should work so you can get into the BIOS. The CMOS battery is the shiny, disk shaped object on the motherboard.

Right after I login to Windows
Surfing the web
Creating a backup on the server
During gameplay

I disabled poth ports in the BIOS and neither OS restarts.

Connected a USB to Ethernet adapter and same thing happens. (Using 64 bit WIN 7 driver). I thought that this would definetly be a work around. I don’t see why this doesn’t work.

I hope someone can help me. MSI doesn’t have any ideas, my board is out of warranty, and I am really screwed if I can’t solve this.

I hate computers!

I have forwarded all the correct ports on my routers, no firewalls/intrusive anti-virus programs are running, I have set up a static IP address outside the range of my DHCP server, the switch stemming from the router is configured correctly, etc, etc, all the basic stuff is accounted for.

I can't get an outside port scan to show that ports are open on my PC when they clearly should be, Magic Online refuses to load graphics or download new files, I can't host WC3 games, and torrents don't run at any reasonable speed because they can't connect to the ports I have set up for them. Every technical place I have contacted just tells me the basic stuff like going to portforward.com and following their directions (great).

NAT tests on the ports in question work fine (double-checked by NAT testing ports that should not work, and they most assuredly do not work, meaning the test program isn't bad). I know how to do something as "advanced" as forward ports to the correct system.

UPnP is disabled.

When I open the ports in question, I get "Connection refused" from websites like http://www.canyouseeme.org/, and when I test ports that should be blocked, I get "connection timed out." The case in the former situation is that the ports are closed, in the second, they are stealth. This means there is no problem with the router configuration, but instead, a problem with my system. Windows Firewall is disabled, BlackICE is disabled, a... Read more

Hello all.

I have a problem with my ethernet port on my workstation.

The computer crashed so i reformatted it with a fresh install of WinXp Pro.

Here are the system specs:

Symantec Endpoint Protection
Windows Firewall
Service Pack 3
Network User - Logged on as Administrator on Network Domain
Internet comes from modem to 16 port switch to workstation. all other stations work fine (even with SP3)
2.4 Core 2 Duo
2 gb ram
Asus P5945GC mobo

Before, the internet was working before I reformatted it. Now I cant connect to internet, network or anything else. The network cable is unplugged icon is on at the bottom right corner of the screen. I have tried numerous versions of the ethernet driver, and nothing helps. I have tried setting up a manual connection for broadband connection and nothing works.

i am assuming it is a software problem, because nothing physically happened to the ethernet plug or port. I even tried plugging in a different ethernet cable into the pc and still nothing.

I am thinking it might have somthing to do with SP3 or some kind of setting not allowing it to be used. I checked Device Manager, it is working properly and enabled.

Im stumpted, if anyone can help, I would appreciate it.

I like to use a dedicated Gateway server to handle Syslog traffics without enabling port mirroring for DCs.  All my DCs already have Lightweight Gateway running.  That way I can separated the Syslog load and traffic from the busy DCs.
Is it possible?

Hello all! I hope I chose the right spot to post this issue (as it is to do with my email as well as the firewall). The problem is that my website host is automatically blocking my IP address because (they told me) an old defunct imap email is continually scanning a closed port. This is causing my hosting company to block my IP address and I cannot use my email or access my website.

So I know what the problem is, but I do not know how to fix it...can anyone guide me or offer suggestions about how to locate whatever email is scanning a closed port? (I went into my email and deleted old accounts). Not sure how to locate the source and then how to stop it from continuing to scan.

Thank you so very much in advance to anyone who can help me out! (I would describe myself as a savvy computer user when things are working, but a newbie when techincal issues arise...)

You can use TCPView from Microsoft Sysinternals. It will show you the network connections and the processes that own them.

Hello Everybody,

I just bought a DVD burner. I installed it, loaded the drivers, etc. Its an 8x burner. I tried playing a movie on it and it gets through the beginning but once the movie starts to play. I get a prompt that states -

"TheTV Out port of your display card is not working properly."

In the bottome box it states -

"This copy protected disc can not be played when the TV out function is enabled."

I have a pci Cirrus Video Card.

I cant get it to play a dvd all the way through. I just bought this today and have 15 days to return it. Also this card had a 7 in 1 media card reader. The usb cable provided with the dvd burner had a pin blocked off. When I looked at my usb 2 connection on my motherboard, it had all the pins.

I have a ecs motherboard.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

I've tried searching on google to find a way to disable the tv out function on my v/c but I can locate any information specifically to my problem.
