Laptop trackpad not working. Keyboard stops working.

Q: Laptop trackpad not working. Keyboard stops working.

Hey guys, i'm stumped.

Laptop Info:
Toshiba Satellite L75D-A7283
Windows 8.1

Track pad doesn't work. All started randomly one day when I started the laptop up. Just didn't work. Now the keyboard will stop  working after about 10 minutes.
Things I've tried:
FN Key  + F5 (enable/disable trackpad)
Double tapping the top left corner of track pad.
Uninstalled all trackpad drivers, restarted, let windows install drivers.
Uninstalled all trackpad drivers, restarted, installed Toshiba Drivers
Checked BIOS for disabled Trackpad.
Lastly, reinstalled windows 8.

I got nothing. I'm stuck.
Any suggestions?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have an Asus G73jh with synaptics touchpad. Everything has been working finr since I got it, but recently, after not having installed any windows updates in a few months, I went ahead and ran the updates. Now the built in keyboard and mouse do not work inside windows.

The keyboard works fine in BIOS and I couldn't find any relevant options within the bios settings. However, once windows 7 boots, and I'm at the login screen, the keyboard and built in touchpad don't work at all. My wireless mouse works fine, I haven't been able to try a USB keyboard, but I imagine it would work fine if I tried it.

In the device manager, both devices ate listed and "working properly" without any errors.

I tried looking up a few of the updates that were installed and couldn't find anything that seemed relevant other than one update which apparently changes the euro sign. I uninstalled that one and it still made no difference.

I have searched online for possible solutions but everything I've found mentions reinstalling windows or rolling back to a restore point. I would prefer to avoid either one of those and rather just find the direct cause of the problem so it can be addressed.

If anybody has any ideas other than the "on screen keyboard" please let me know. I really would appreciate it.

A:[SOLVED] Laptop built in keyboard and trackpad not working.

Situations like yours is what System Restore is for. Just restore to the date and time before this happened. It will not touch your personal files.
If you don't want to do that, First boot to Bios, go to Integrated Peripherals, look for Legacy USB or Keyboard. If it is disabled, Enable it. then go to the Device Manager, and right click the Keyboard and Mouse and choose Properties/Drivers/Roll Back Driver.
You can also go to the Asus Driver page ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download G73Jh and download the Touchpad driver for your model.

I have windows7 installed on my laptop and any time i log off my system or just keep it idle for sometime it logs off and the keybaord starts behaving differently.

Like when i press the j key it reads it as 1

when i press f it reads it 4 and so on.

So i have to switch off the laptop and then turn it back on to make it work correctly any help?

A:When i log off my laptop the keyboard stops working

That's extremely odd behavior. Did this problem happen suddenly? Do you recall what you did prior to it happening (like opening an e-mail attachment or visiting a new website)? First, before any other troubleshooting, make sure your anti-virus is up to date and run a malware scan (e.g. MalwareBytes). If it's not a virus, it may be due to a fault with the keyboard driver. Perhaps you have an older laptop and a recent Windows update created a conflict? You could also try going to the Device Manager, select your keyboard, and then check to see if there's a driver update.

ASUS K95VB laptop, Windows 8.1
Occasionally, often after waking from sleep or hibernate modes, but not always, the keyboard stops working. The mouse (USB Logitech) works fine. Programs open are Firefox, Thunderbird and Jarte Notepad, and when I try to write something in them, they go into "Not responding" mode.
However, when I go to other Windows functions, like Run or Search, there the keyboard works just fine.
After restarting the computer everything works again.
Have checked for malware, virus, etc. - nothing obviously wrong.
Any ideas?

Hello there all, I hope you are having a nice day/night while reading my post  Recently Im having a quite uncomfortable problem with my Lenovo. As the title says, it stops running, to be honest, mostly when playing League of Legends. Very rarely while doing other things, like surfing on the web, perhaps more often when playing other games than League It's hard for me to figure up, why does it happen. My laptot is fairly new (4-5 months), and it has not been damaged or awashed by water And there we go to the second problem, which is connecting with WiFi. It just randomly does not show any will to connect with web spots. Sometimes, it works just fine. I installed WiFi/Router drivers, and it hasn't got any better The third, and the last problem is, that my headphones sometimes don't run. Rather randomly, when I plug them in, or when I turn on the computer while they are already plugged If anyone can help me with any of these problems above, I will be very grateful My operating system is Windows 10

I have had this problem on and off with this laptop for some time. Sometimes I could fix it with just flipping the laptop all the way over and back a few times and the laptop keyboard would come out of tablet mode and work. You can see for a very few short seconds the keyboard will operate during initial boot process however during the boot process it disables. Now all of the time. Is there a Bios setting anyone knows to turn on permanently? I really hate the tablet mode as it is and certainly can live without it.

At several occasions now, my trackpad two-finger-scrolling stops functioning as it should after some time of using the system. It seems the gesture is still recognized, but it is handled incorrectly: rather than scrolling 'within' the selected window, the whole window seems to 'bounce' indicating I can't scroll any further. Scrolling with an external mouse works fine, as does scrolling with the touchscreen, as does moving the mouse to the scrollbar and click-dragging.
I have updated all latest drivers, except the BIOS which is on A06 since I do not want to upgrade it (yet) since the higher versions currently cause the screen's brightness to flicker. Unless this BIOS is known to address these issues (not listed in the details) I do not see a reason to upgrade it (again).
Worth noting is that this issue only seems to arise after some time of using the system (possibly after a few sleep sessions?).

Received my new X1 Carbon 2014 this week. Have used it for 5 hrs now, and how probably restarted about 30-40 times.  Anyone know what is causing this problem and/or how I can fix it?     //alex

HI All I am in need of help please i have a X1 Carbon that was Recently purchased for a user at our office. But as you can tell from the subject of this topic the touchpad and trackpad stops working working after a few minutes of working on the machine.  I used Lenovo System Update to update all the drivers to the latest version and this was not successfull, I then tried a reinstall  of windows and the manually downloaded the driver from lenovo website and installed it but still no luck. I have checked and they are not disabled in the Bios and they are not and the Bios is on the latest version I have also tried to let it run on the windows driver that downloads from windows but also it stops working. from what it looks like the trackpoint and touchpad disable cause when i go into the mouse properties the option to enable them both is greyed out i then log on as the local admin to see if it is a permission thing but it is also greyed out. This happens regardless if the machine is on battery or plugged inThis user travels  alot and needs them both to be working.  I came across the below forum but i dont see much of a response from lenovo.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-touchpad-and-trackpad-stops-working...

Hello there, I have this ThinkPad T440p where the trackpad mysteriously stops working after I put in in standby from the menu. However, it doesn't happen when it does go to standby by itself as per power management. Symptoms:When waken up from a manual standby, often the trackpad stop working. The mouse cursor doesn't move, and buttons are not active. Only the trackpoint can move the cursor, or an external mouse. The screen brightness buttons also stop working. In Device Manager, no peripheral is reported as malfunctioning, and even trying to switch settings in the Trackpad preference pane does not help. Why is this computer having such an annoying bug?

Hi everyone, I bought this laptop about 3 months ago and I'm loving it so far. But every so often the keyboard would just stop working and when I try shutting it off, it would go through the entire shutting off process and the screen goes black but all the lights and fan would still be on. I am then forced to hold the power button down to force it off. When I restart the computer instead, it would take me to the blue screen where it would say "Windows has ran into an unexpected error" then the screen would turn black again and everything else would be on. Anyone have any idea or solution to what's going on? Thanks in advnace!

"HP Pavilion dv6-2157wm Entertainment Notebook PC"

Here's the list of things I've tried and I'm not sure what else to do:
sfc /scannow
chkdsk C: /f
Updated the BIOS
Uninstalled Synaptics driver, re-installed newest version
Uninstalled Synaptics driver, tried letting Windows Update install driver
Generic USB drivers are not allowed to be turned off to save power
"Hard Reset," unplugging A/C and battery and holding power button for 30 seconds
Tried safe mode; no avail
Looked for FN keys to turn it on/off, there are none
Tried pressing the button above the trackpad to turn it on/off; light just stays white
Here's a picture of the light:

I don't know what else to do. I've been told to try to take the hard drive out and look under it, there could be a loose wire that attaches to the back of the trackpad. But before I dive into taking the computer apart, I just wanted to eliminate all of my options. Maybe there's something I'm missing that someone else will be able to point out with no issue.

Here's a picture of the Mouse > Synaptics tab:
...actually as I'm typing this, for the first time, I received an error saying, "Unable to connect to the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver, Do you want to uninstall the driver now?" (That's the first time this has happened.)

Here's a picture of device manager:

There are no errors/exclamation points.

Alright I have a unique problem with my keyboard, that seems more or less of a software issue than a hardware issue. For some strange reason, every few minutes my laptop keyboard will stop working for no reason. But when I restart the computer, or go into standby and then turn the computer back on, it works fine. I checked device manager and event viewer and there is nothing to give hint as to why this is happening.

So what gives?! Anyone have any advice?

Hope I am in the correct forum for this. Laptop is a Dell Inspiron E1505 that I rebuilt. It has always worked even better than my husband's new laptop. I am pretty sure this is a virus/trojan, not a hardware issue, but could be wrong why I am on here. I was typing the other night & it all of a sudden started typing letters I was not typing & the lights on front of laptop started flashing. I stopped immediately booted into safe mode & ran superantispyware & went to bed. Next morning, it said nothing found. so then I ran malwarebytes, nothing found & avast scan, nothing found. Then the keyboard quit working all together, but touchpad still works. I hooked up a usb keyboard & it works fine. When I restart computer it gets stuck on the windows 7 boot menu & will go no further until I hit enter, never had to do that before. Also a few times firefox would only run in it's safe mode, now it's like normal but takes forever to open the first window. Went back into safe mode, ran microsoft security scan. Found 1 item, deleted that. Still doing the same thing. I dont think it's the keyboard, because I installed a new one about 6 months ago & too many other strange things happening all at once. Someone please help! I am about to pull my hair out with this one!

A:Dell laptop stops at windows7 boot menu/ keyboard quit working

update: ran malwarebytes in safe mode again. restarted it & goes to the screen that has windows7/vista/server & others like that (debug- default mode) etc. keeps highlighting each one really fast over & over again like holding down the arrow button. wont do anything unless I click 'b' to boot. then starts like normal. still no keyboard.

I've got a 4 year old Alienware m9700 laptop that has been giving me quite a bit of trouble over the last few months. About three months ago, the touchpad just completely stopped working, and for the last two months the keyboard will lock up at random times. USB keyboar still works, but as I'm in the air/on the go a lot, having to carry around a big ol keyboard is highly unrealistic. The computer is amazing when it works, but it's just getting ridiculous.

On top of that, the wifi cuts in and out as though its searching for other channels (Ive already uninstalled the realtek software so theres no contradicting software issues) and tried switching channels, but thats not my real issue--the KEYBOARD is.

I think I've ruled out it being a hardware issue, as the keyboard works fine for a few minutes and then boom, it just locks up. What makes me think its some sort of software issue is if I go into standby mode or hibernate and come out, it works just fine--until it locks up again, then I have to standby and come out...makes for a real hard time when I'm trying to edit. But heres the real doozy--this problem started a few months ago when I had my old hard drive--but this is a brand new hard drive, with a fresh copy of XP on it...weird, huh?

I've searched high and low for a resolution. They dont make this keyboard anymore, so I'm out of luck in terms of getting a new one. Every "similar" post I've seen has been graphics related ... Read more

Hi, Normally, you just need to turn off SmartSense or PalmCheck the Synaptics control panel - however from what I've seen, this no longer seems to work for Windows 10 versions of this driver. You may be able to get around this as follows. First, download the Synaptics driver on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. Synaptics Driver Version 17.0.18.8 Turn off your wireless card ( should be f12 ). Open windows control panel, open Programs and Features, right click the current Synaptics driver and select Uninstall. When complete, restart the notebook. When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder and run the Synaptics installer - when this has completed, restart the notebook again. Open the Synaptics settings panel, disable SmartSense or PalmCheck and then check if the touchpad will now work with a keyboard key held down.  If it does, turn your wireless card back on and use the utility on the following link to prevent Windows 10 from automatically updating the Synaptics driver. https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/3073930 Regards, DP-K

1) What happens if you uninstall the USB mouse and only have the touchpad online?
2) Also, are you using an external monitor plugged into the S/VGA port?  Reason for asking:  in the old days, if during a monitor swap, a certain monitor pin was accidentally bent and not making contact, the keyboard and mouse would not respond.  Wait, you said you can use mouse, keyboard, touchpad in BIOS?  Then, #2 doesn't apply to you.

Hi there,

Any help would be massively appreciated here as have really run out of ideas with this problem!

Unit: Macbook Pro mid 2010 model

All was working fine until one day, after using a projector in work, the unit was shutdown. When it came back on both the keyboard and the trackpad no longer function.

Key facts so far:

The keyboard responds just after power on, so that a command via the keys can occur i.e. press C to boot from disc or cmd S for single user mode etc BUT once the operating system has booted up, neither the keyboard or trackpad work.

If I plug in a USB mouse/keyboard all works fine. Also, if I use an external bluetooth keyboard and mouse all is fine.

The OS is completely up-to-date and runs on 10.6.8.

The keyboard backlight work fine.

Actions so far:

I have run both Disc Utility verify disc and also Disk Warrior - no difference.
I have repaired permissions within disc utility - no difference.
I have completely erased (zero pass) the hard drive and re-installed the operating system from the disc - problem still there.
I have tried Applejack also - no difference.
I have reset PRAM / NVRAM using usual method - no difference.
I have started in Safe Mode - problem still there i.e. cannot use keyboard or trackpad even in safe mode.

The only thing that has happened is that, when I booted into Single User Mode, the system went a little crazy and kept repeating the an error relating to AppleUSBMultitouchDriver 0xe000404f over and over. I was unable to do... Read more

For a while now my my detachable Keyboard, Trackpad and Mouse have kept stopping. It has happened before and cured itself but so far not this time. A new and odd behaviour is that after closing down and relaunching everything does work, for about two seconds only, just enough time to log in and click one item in the Taskbar. From then on I have to rely on Touch, until I set up a standby Bluetooth board and mouse which are not perfect but enable me to keep using my 2-in-1 PC.

As it may not recover of its own accord or may take a long time to do so I would be relieved if someone can diagnose what might be happening and how to prevent it. Is it a hardwear or a software issue?

I think the power management feature is messing with you.

To Disable Selective Suspend:

open the control panel
go to power options (you may have to set view to small icons)
click change plan settings
in the window that opens:
click change plan settings
click change advanced power settings, expand usb and ensure usb selective suspend is disabled.

So recently the sound on my desktop and my laptop has stopped working. For seemingly no reason. I really don't understand it.

I first noticed it with my desktop. The sound just randomly stopped working. But not...entirely. It's really strange and complicated what's been happening, so bare with me while I try to explain it as best I can.

PC:
First time sound stopped working on PC. Restarted computer, sound came back, no issues.

Second time I woke up to find VLC frozen. Sound wasn't working. I restarted VLC. No sound. Found out that there was no sound on the computer at all. When I'd try to increase the volume on VLC, it would only change within an interval of ten percent. So it was at 50 percent initially. Would not let me go below 50%, but not above 10%. Sound didn't work anyway. Restarted, sound returned VLC working fine.

Third time I was playing Dragon Age: Inquisition. Sound worked fine, using my headset (Turtle Beach). Went to speakers to lay down and watch some shows on VLC. No sound on speakers. Switched to Turtle Beach again, sound returned. Restarted VLC, now suddenly no sound on VLC OR speakers. Had to restart computer, no issues after restart.

Laptop:
First time sound stopped working, used the "disable audio and reenable audio driver," didn't solve anything. Restarted, sound came back. Sound stopped working again same day, restarted, sound came back.

The next time I restarted the audio driver (Realtek) and then I shut down Explorer and then restar... Read more

A:Sound on Laptop and Desktop Randomly Stops Working and Working

Update: I'm not at home to test my PC, but I think I discovered the issue. It seems to possibly be a glitch or something with flash player.

After watching an episode of Daily Show on Hulu, I went back to Tumblr and saw that a video didn't have sound, and then all sound on my computer was suddenly gone. I then tried something out, and shut down flashplayer. That temporarily brought sound back.

But it quickly went away.

Then I shut down Firefox and flash player entirely, and sound comes back even when Flash Player comes up.

What could cause this?

Hi, my Dell Latitude E6400 is about 3 or 4 years old and the trackpad has been playing up over the last few months.

First it would cut out for no apparent reason and stop working (all four mouse buttons and the pointing nub thing) and I would have to restart the computer to get it to work agian. Not a real problem as it didn't happen that often. It then started doing it more and more often. After about a month or two of cutting out randomly it just stopped and started working normally again.

A few weeks later I started using CAD for a University project, the trackpad was being used a lot and it kept cutting out and I would have to restart it to get it working again. It happened three or four times in an hour before finally cutting off completely and restarting the computer wouldn't bring it back.

I thought oh well, I'll just buy a usb mouse and sort out the trackpad when I finish Uni and get home. A few weeks after that, I clicked the right mouse button by accident and the menu popped up! The left button and the touchpad all worked including the nub thing. It fixed itself somehow.

And finally, just a second ago it cut out and restarting won't bring it back.

I have reinstalled the mouse driver and that didn't fix it. I am pretty sure it is a hardware issue, like a dodgy chip, dodgy connection or something. There are no reasons for it to cut out, each time it cutted out I wasn't doing anything intensive apart from the CAD time. The pointing nu... Read more

Hello.  Got this laptop this past Christmas, unfortunately has never worked very well.  Since I bought it, it's had this problem where every time I close the laptop and reopen it, the task bar disappears and the trackpad is unuseable.  I have to manually restart it to get it to work again.  I disabled sleep mode and still this problem would occur.  Then suddenly the trackpad stopped working altogether.  I have to plug in a USB mouse to use this laptop now.  I updated all drivers (including trackpad) and still I cannot use the trackpad.  Windows 10 is also fully updated.  I did not change anything in the control panel so am not sure why it suddenly stopped working.  I am attaching a picture I took showing the problem.  This is after opening up the laptop, you can see the taskbar has disappeared and screen is incorrect resolution.Honestly, this laptop is very disappointing and I'm frustrated that I got it.  I have a newborn at home so spending time on this is really annoying/difficult.  I hope very much that there is an easy fix here.  Please help.  ThanksKC

Hi All,

My laptop had a blue screen and keyboard stops working as well, I plugged the external keyboard and re-install the windows, now half of the keys are working and half dosent.

I am wondering has the kyboard damaged, I am also not sure if the I replace the keyboard will it work?

is there any settings in bios or any utility can fix the problem, could some one please advise?

Thanks
Nysoh

A:Keyboard stops working - USB external keyboard is fine

Hello Nysoh

On this virtual way nobody can say for sure what the problem is but if the internal keyboard is not working properly first step is keyboard replacement. If the problem still persists then troublemaker can be keyboard port or keyboard controller.

As far as I know BIOS has nothing to do with this issue.

Hi

The trackpad and left/right click buttons on my laptop work fine up to the point when I need to log in to my user profile.

Once in, and Windows is working, they do not respond at all, except to bring the screen back when it has gone to sleep.

Does anybody know what is going on and how to resolve this problem?

Thanks

Guy

ignore that it says dell, the principle is the same, what you want is to try to reset it all , adjusting settings up and down to see if you can kick start it back up

Hi,

I have had a new Acer TravelMate Laptop for about 3 weeks, and the trackpad quit working late last night. (Wednesday)
The laptop is running Windows 7 Home Premium and I did the most recent recommended Windows update last Monday (16th). Since it was new there has been hesitation in the cursor movement when a new program is commenced, but I thought it was just a RAM issue or something that I wasn't going to get rid of in a new computer. I am migrating from a 13 year old desktop which did that pausing all the time.

I tried using system restore, which didn't restore the trackpad, and I have just tried to start it in safe mode but the mouse still does not work. I have a mouse from the old desk top computer which works fine on the laptop, but I got rid of the desktop because I was so tired of all the cords and cables, so I don't want a mouse, or at least not the one I have. I want to use the trackpad, since I have one and it is so tidy.

Is there something else I can try, or should I be talking to the company I bought it from to take it back? I appreciate any ideas.

Thanks in advance.

Hello.  Hello. I have a Lenovo Y700 which I purchased a few months ago. Recently the keyboard has stopped working regularly. The rest of the computer is fine, I can use the mouse and the computer normally, but I cant write. When I restart the computer, the keyboard works again.  Is this a known problem and is there a solution to this? Regards,Staalek

My ps/2 keyboard, every 3 or 4 days, simply stops working - no response at all in any application. I switched keyboards, but the problem persists. Reboopting works every time. The Device Manager shows it's working properly. As far as I can tell, no specific application is triggering the problem, although it usually occurs when I'm working in IE7. I have Windows XP.

Any thoughts?

The only thing i could think of would be a port problem. You might try using a ps/2 -> USB adapter(if they exist <.<) to bypass the ps/2 port.

Hi everyone, so I'm having a big problem. My keyboard was just fine few days ago, but now it stopped working, it's really annoying because I have to you desktop keyboard or what it is. Sometimes it works for a moment, but suddenly windows starts to show that usb device not recognized. Anyway, I searched for the solution for my problem many times. I tried to re-plug in my keyboard, shut down pc and turn on again, I also tried to search for drivers, but then it showed that there isn't any drivers, I tried to up to date them, but it's already up to date, I unistalled drivers and turned on pc for drivers to be installed again, but it showed that it failed. And ethernet controller, SM bus controller and universal serial bus (usb) controller are with yellow thing near to them, all the time (control panel>device manager>other devices). My other devices plugged in with usb work just fine, but keyboard doesnt do it at all. Can it be the problem or something else, or i just need to buy a new keyboard? Please help!

A:Keyboard always stops working

It sounds as though you are using a USB keyboard? It is not a wireless keyboard is it? Did you try plugging the keyboard into one of the other USB ports for which the devices are working instead of the same one which is not working? Did you run Windows Update to look for drivers? Do you have internet access on the machine still or is it not working due to the Ethernet controller problem? If you have access, and if Windows Update doesn't get you the drivers, you might try IOBIT driver booster free if you are having trouble installing drivers. It will look for missing drivers and will update them for you.

I'm having an issue with my laptop keyboard not registering what keys I type. It's been starting when I'm using Microsoft Works. I've tried a few of the different Fix It- Microsoft ATS that seemed to apply, and that works for a little while, but then the problem returns when I'm using Microsoft Works. Once the problem happens, I can't use the keyboard again at all in any program until I reboot.

There was a Windows update yesterday that I installed that I thought could be causing this issue, but I was unable to find a System Restore point available to go to that was prior to the update to see if that helped.

Other things I tried are cleaning the registry, doing a scan/Deep Clean. I'm running low on ideas, anything else I can try? Below are my system specs:
Dell Inspiron 1525
Vista Home Premium 32bit
Intel Premium Dual CPU T2370 @ 1.73GHz
Memory 2 GB

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome
Some suggestions
Stop using those reg cleaners, they may have even been the cause of the problem. If they were not, they may cause different problems in the future
Go to search, by start button, type device manager and look for any small yellow markers near the keybaord drivers. If there are, update.
If they are not, update to the most current from the company website (the company that made the keyboard)

I am running windows7 on an HP G50 (laptop). If it goes to screen save mode, the keyboard will not function at all when it comes back, including the mouse pad. The external mouse works fine, so I can surf until I need to key something. When I restart it, it works fine until the screen goes to sleep again.
Any ideas?

Thanks

Hello everyone,

I've been having a problem that began on December 9th, 2016. My keyboard, seemingly at random, stops working. The green indicator light that it's powered stays on but the buttons will not respond. I'm using Windows 7 x64.

I've tried various options and none have worked.
- Different USB ports
- Different keyboards (Logitech K120 and Microsoft Curve)
- Different mice, just in case. (Logitech Optical Gaming Mouse G400 and Amazon Basics)
- Unplugged unnecessary USB connections
- Full virus scan, nothing found
- Full system scan through command prompt, nothing found
- Disabled power options to turn USB ports off to save power
- Updated my nVidia graphics card
- Installed a few new updates for Windows
- A friend of mine did some changes in the BIOS that I'm not familiar with, (I can ask them), but that didn't work either.

Then I moved on to see if it's a program that's causing this. But I got to a point where I had closed all the normal programs I use day-to-day, (I also tried disabling all Chrome extensions), but the problem still occurred.

There's two instances where the keyboard stops working.
1.) When the computer is left to idle for fifteen minutes, the screensaver comes on and then my two monitors turn off. When I return, the keyboard no longer works. The mouse does, however.
2.) But this has also happened seemingly at random without the above coming into play. With and without certain programs running.

Oddly enough, the quick "fix" I have at th... Read more

Every time I try to install Windows XP from the CD onto my friend's computer, I get to the blue screen where you're able to format/partition the hard drive and then his keyboard stops working. I don't know how to get around this because I can't continue the installation w/o the use of the keyboard. Unfortunatly, he has Windows ME on his computer right now so this issue needs to be resolved! Thanks in advance!
