Digital River Win7 Product Key Question

Q: Digital River Win7 Product Key Question

I have purchased Win7 Pro 64 from Digital River. I would like to buy another Pro64 bit key but I am only allowed one Pro64 bit download. They will allow me to buy the Pro32 bit version, will the product key that comes with the Pro32 bit version allow me to install and activate another Pro64 bit install. Are the keys version specific?

Preferred Solution: Digital River Win7 Product Key Question

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Digital River Win7 Product Key Question

All I can say is that the normal keys are version specific, that is you can install only pro with a pro key, but they are not to my knowledge architecture specific (64/32 Bit).

However with Digital River's history on this roll out I would not state this a s fact

I downloaded from Digital River yesterday with the student discount, and had the same problem as everyone else "unboxing" the download. I used the fix that's been circling round the forums and have got it installed and working. The only thing I'm missing is a product key. Wasn't Digital River supposed to give me one in my confirmation email? I've received nothing of the sort, and would really like to activate this product I've purchased. I have product keys from previous versions of Windows that I've bought, but the machine I installed Windows 7 on was using Linux as its main operating system. Any thoughts?

As mine is a OEM licence it won't let me and advises me to contact my vendor

As Jann from Heidoc reports in Windows 7 Direct Download Links as of now only English and Spanish are still up, links being replaced by a new MS Recovery Center that provides ISO's for a retail Product Key.

I'd also had heard from SIW2 who couldn't get it to take his retail key due to a Language error. I also had the same error on two of my retail Keys. The address we were using is Microsoft Software Recovery

But if it's not allowing Product Keys from COA stickers then it is another ridiculous attack on the ability of MS customers to get the best possible install of the OS they bought with their PC even after over a million consumers have done so following Clean Reinstall Windows 7. I honestly thought we were beyond this, but apparently not.

I'm going to wait a day before bringing this up to the MVP forums to see if anything changes.

I just installed Win7 from disc on my computer, Dell 8300. Came from XP. Really like Win7, very happy with it. I just have one problem, I can't boot from disc so I can reformat hard drive when I install Win7. I changed Bios settings to boot from DVD, it loads disc, does the long white bar at bottom of screen, then proceeds to blue with flower stems background page and everything stops. Stays their. My computer knowlegde is limited, so any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mar

A:Win7 Digital River Master Disc Won't Boot

You say you can't boot from the disk even after making correct BIOS boot order settings, but then describe the disk loading. How does the disk load if not booted?

Do you get the prompt to "hit any key to boot from CD/DVD drive?" If you do this, does it then begin loading with a progress bar and proceed as you say? That is booting from the DVD.

If it was not able to boot from the DVD then it would start into Windows 7 and probably bring up the Autoplay menu of the DVD in the drive. Is this what happens?

It is possible that the DVD only has the files and isn't bootable. If so, we can help you create a bootable ISO from the files to burn to a DVD.

I have heard lots about there being problems when people have downloaded Win 7 from Digital River as part of the student offer. Most of what I have heard is from people trying to got from 32 bit Vista/XP to 64 bit Win 7.
Are there any similar problems reported with the 32 bit win 7 download?

A:Question about Digital River Win 7 download

The biggest problem is how the download is delivered (an exe file), then expanding the file, then burning the files to a bootable ISO.... Personally, I wouldnt go through all those hoops if it were free... and apparently a lot of other people agree..

Hi all,

What a nightmare!!!

I have just had an email from Digital River, that I will be getting a full refund for the Windows 7 upgrade within the next 30 days, for the problems caused. I haven't even emailed them to complain (yet!)

The email also states that if I ordered the backup cd's these would still be dispatched.

Happy days - sort of!

Thanks

Ok, I know some have cracked it, and others haven't, but I thought I would share this one with you.

I am running a MacBook Pro, and had Windows XP running under bootcamp. Downloaded from Digital River and had all the problems. Finally got it to boot, but wouldn't install due to unable to create folder.

Scrubbed bootcamp partition and tried using Parallels. So far so good, but not for long. Won't take my product key as I have the upgrade product 32bit, but at least it got that far.)

Now, reloading windows XP on bootcamp, and my XP disc has a scratch on it and can't be read

Ah well

Any help would be great.

I've been following the above thread where a guy kept trying to download a Windows 7 iso from Digital River, and it was wrong size/'not an iso' etc. Even though I don't need any iso's myself, I thought I'd have a go at downloading one to see what the OP's problem was. Sure enough I had the same result - 2.49GB (not 3.09GB for x64). Twice in fact.

That was browser download, so I tried 2 separate download managers. Seemed fine at first, but both stopped at 99.9%. Curious . . .

I'm starting to wonder if Microsoft are playing the old 'poison torrent' game - record labels sometimes release bad torrents of music CDs into the wild and fans download them (illegally) but are disappointed when it's a fake. After a few more useless attempts to get the CD, the pirate gives up and buys the product (well that's the theory).

Pretty soon all computers on sale will be Windows 8, and a lot of folk will buy one but want to downgrade to W7. MS seem to be moving the goalposts on that scenario, but no probs - we can just get a W7 iso from Digital River. Or can we ???

Just like the 'poison torrents', after several failed W7 Digital River downloads I guess MS expect us all to give up and buy into W8 (and buy their video's + mp3's).

A:Something wrong at Digital River ?

You can remove your tin foil hat - sort of.

I used Pale Moon to download the ISO mentioned in the thread and it was fine
(e.g. I could mount it via Virtual CloneDrive and look around at the files...
...I could also build a virtual machine from it via VirtualBox.).

I also downloaded two other ISOs at the same time. One was fine, but X17-59465 was weird.
The last ISO in the screenshot above should be that same size as the first ISO.
X17-59465.iso looked fine.
I could mount it via Virtual CloneDrive.
I could even start the OS install process, but it barfed:

Notice the size being reported during the download.
That download was the 3rd try.
The completed download below it was 2nd try.

And these two download attempts were via another ISP:

Both of those downloads were via IE10. Both claimed that the download was interrupted. I looked at the file size of the ".partial" file before hitting the Resume button. The ".partial" file was the same exact file size (2.619...) shown in the first image of this post. Pressing Resume started the download all over again - but the "resumed" download made no claim of an interruption. Each second try just gave me the 2.619... file.

How odd.

There is no trial version of Win7, only a 30 day grace period before you must activate so you can decide if this is an install you want to keep. You should already own a license. If so then read carefully over the steps to get and keep a perfect Clean Reinstall Windows 7. It discusses in Step 1 how to find replacement media.

Please obtain these links by contacting Digital River customer support. The Windows 7 ISO file is large (>2GB). Please verify that you have sufficient hard disk space to download this file and install Windows 7. Approx. 20GB will be enough for both operations.
Download the Windows 7 ISO image and save the file to a location you can remember. The download may take a considerable amount of time on slower internet connections.

In our household we have two students, and so ordered a copy of Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Home Premium in both x64 and x86 versions - a total of 4 products from Digital River.

Having used their download manager to download these files, I now have 6 files: 4 .exe files (as expected) plus 2 files named setup1.box and setup2.box.

The .exe files are, however, only just over 70KB each, setup1.box is almost 3GB and setup2.box is 163KB.

Running the Home PRemium versions fails immeditaely, saying it can't find the required files. Running the Pro x64 .exe file starts to build a .iso file ("Unloading the box"), but then fails with an unspecified error.

Any ideas?

It will not be in three seperate files. that was a torrented fiel. It will come in either an ISO (most likely) or a vhd (doubtful). to burn you take the ISO file and burn it to dvd using an app like IMGburn, or powerISO, etc

Windows 7 student upgrade hell - Apple 2.0 - Fortune Brainstorm Tech

As I posted several days ago, I am just shocked that MS didn't work with Digital River to get a solution out there ASAP...to avoid just this type of press. I really have been surprised that I didn't get an email a day or two after release day from DR or MS stating, "if you have issues, you can download the ISO from here." I mean seriously, what's the value of the ISO without a key?...and if you managed to get a cracked key, I doubt access to the install media is what is holding you back.

I am sure that this issue is DR's fault since they appear to have written the installer based on its signature...but the result is the same either way - bad press for MS and Win 7.

Anyway, just thought that I would share.

I first purchased Windows 7 Home Edition (32-bit), then upgraded online to Windows 7 Pro (32-bit).
The hal.dll corrupted and I couldn't fix the problem because I only had the Home Edition discs.

Several sources in Forums advised me to fix the problem using a boot disk from an ISO downloaded from Digital River.
That disc couldn't fix the hal.dll problem either so I did the Custom Install. That put a new installation of Windows 7 Pro on the computer.
Now I'm being asked for the Activation Key. The Key I was given when I upgraded to Pro isn't being accepted. I'm told that the Key I was given only works for the Windows 7 Pro upgrade..!

I've signed-on to the Microsoft site and followed links around for a while, but I can't find any understandable information about my problem. How do I get the Activation Key for Windows 7 Pro now that it's been reinstalled?

So, I finally got Windows 7 Professional Upgrade (since I'm a student) to start downloading through my Campus' proxy and after downloading smoothly for a half an hour or so it hit 68% and paused. At first I thought nothing of it, but now when I try to click "resume" it downloads about .01-.02mb of data and then pauses again all in less than a second.
Anyone know how I might fix this? I've exited the Download Manager and started it again a couple of times, and restarted my computer and have unplugged/plugged back in my Ethernet cord.
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

I purchased the student offer version of Windows 7 yesterday top up grade from XP, as for ?30 I thought I couldn't go wrong.

So there I was this morning thinking I could set a side a few hours to get it all up and running but 11 hours later i still dont even have all of the first .box file downloaded!

I live off campus (in the UK), but still have a cable broadband connection and can usually expect file download speeds of 300-800kb/s as reported by the windows download window.

Now I know that there is probably high demand on Digital River's servers at the moment, but still... My download has only managed 40-50kb/s on average with a couple of short peaks to 70-90kb/s.

At this rate it'll be tomorrow evening before I get to a point where I can install.

Anyone else having this problem, or ideas of how to speed things up? I ask as i can't find anywhere else which mentions this problem, only people talking about creating .iso files as if their download flew by and now they're installing.

A:Microsoft Digital River iso downloads - gone for good?

Looks like they are gone. sari and Toffee informed me about it yesterday, apparently, a lot of people (including MVPs) aren't happy with that decision, but there's nothing that can be done. I have the Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bits .iso on my computer, which is one of the most popular, and I can access all the others be entering the product keys I have and also use my e5.onthehub (DreamSpark) account, but I think that uploading them and distributing them would be illegal. This is kind of stupid too. What if the person needs a recovery DVD to access the Recovery PE, but lost his product key on the sticker. The only way would be to grab it from Windows itself, but it wouldn't be bootable. Hopefully they'll make these .iso available to the public again.

Usually what happens after 99% is that the file is moved from a temp folder to the download folder, and then scanned by your antivirus program. Try and delete all browsing history, verify there's enough free space on the disk, and temporarily disable the antivirus.

In my household I have 4 different puters running Win7 Pro X64bit. I need another new Win7 Pro x64 Product Key to do a clean install on a new Puter I just built, but I need a version that will allow a Clean/Install whenever the need arises. I think not all versions (OEM, etc??) will allow me to do a clean/install when the need arises.

Amazon has a Win7 Pro version that I think will allow a clean/install for ~$138.00. This is acceptable but, I would like to know if there is another (Legal) version that might do the same but be less expensive.

Thank you for any comments/suggestions.

A:New Win7 Pro 64bit Product Key Question

Any legal key can be used for a clean install, limited by the original EULA. OEM, can only be use on one machine. Retail can be used on different putters but only one at a time. Be very careful with second hand, because there have been many cases of keys being sold that were already used. Your $138 sounds like a good price.

I found a  used desktop (Dell Inspiron) on a facebook sale group - only$20.

First thing I notice: "This copy of Windows is not genuine".

But it has a proof-of-license sticker on the casement. Turns out the installed Windows 7 is Ultimate and the sticker is for Home Premium. Tried anyway, but it was rejected.

Installed = Win 7 Ultimate

Product Key = Win 7 Home Premium

I got a popup window: "You must either run Win 7 Setup or enter a Win 7 Ultimate product key".

Not knowing much about computers, I have no clue how I need to proceed. I'd really like to wind up with a genuine copy of windows, because apparently auto update will not work without it. The computer works with non-genuine copy of windows, but is extremely slow and has to be hard booted to turn off and besides, I don't want to fool with an illegal copy of Windows.  Certainly I'd rather have Ultimate but Home Premium is good enough.

But don't I have to have the disk to run windows 7 Home Pr. Setup?

Any possible options greatly appreciated.

A:bought used computer, Win7 "not genuine", Win7 product sticker on case

You're needing to find a Windows 7 Home Premium ISO from a well-known well-respected source.  If you ever want Ultimate, you're going to have to purchase a license, either for an OEM or for a Microsoft 32/64 pack.  After you have legalized the Home Premium, you probably can purchase an upgrade [from Home Premium to Ultimate] for a pretty good price, make sure of your source!  You want a legal version of Ultimate.

One would think that the distinction between activation using a Product Key or Digital Entitlement would be a simple matter.... yes? Wrong. Visit the Microsoft Community website and you will see what I mean.

Assume a User purchases a computer with a "Version A" of W10 installed. At some time the User upgrades via the Internet to a different version - let us say "Version B". Some time later the computer crashes and the User rebuilds the system using the computer manufacturer's Recovery Partition which returns the computer to the factory settings.

The User now wants to reinstall "Version B" for which the User has already paid and for which the User should have a Digital Entitlement. Conflicting opinions seem to indicate that this is not correct and that the User would have to pay again for "Version B".

Now one might be tempted to say "No, that can't be correct"..... but according to the Microsoft UK Store that is correct...... but then again do they really know what they are talking about or just want to put the phone down and get back to their coffee and donuts....

Hello guys

I have recently installed windows on a partition of my Mac using BootCamp. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium and I still have 19 days to activate windows. I don't have a product key as I know I can't just use another key from another machine, however purchasing a product key is proving difficult. everywhere I look on the MS website my only option is Windows 8 and I don't want that. Any ideas of a safe and reliable place to get a genuine MS Win7 product key?

Thanks in advance

You can get OEM System Builder copies only, nowadays - try dabs.com, ebuyer.com, or scan.co.uk

I had to do a rebuild on a laptop that had windows 7 installed when it was purchased. I forgot to get the key off the OS before I formatted and installed a new copy of 7. There is no Microsoft product key sticker on the machine. How do I get back the original key that was installed on this machine?

Thanks,
Dan

A:Recover Old Win7 product key

Check under the battery for the sticker with the key.  HP, in their infinite wisdom, started placing it there a couple years ago.  Other than that I don't have a good suggestion for recovering a key from a drive that has been reformatted.

Hi,

Yes, I belive you can, as long as its a retail version of Windows, and not an OEM version.

Please wait until someone more senior has confirmed my reply before proceeding.

Allow me to elaborate. I plan to upgrade from Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 8 Pro. After doing so, can I reuse the Windows 7 product key on another computer? Thanks!

A:Use Win7 product key for new computer

Hello daicon0 and welcome to Seven Forums.

It depends if the Windows 7 Ultimate is OEM or full install. If the Ultimate was installed by a computer manufacturer or if you upgraded to Ultimate by using a OEM disk, then that copy of Ultimate is forever tied to that original computer. But if the Ultimate was installed using a full install disk, it can be transferred from computer to computer as long as it's activated on only one computer at a time.

I have a 2 yr old HP with Win7 Home Premium SP1 I bought from retail store with OEM software installed. All of a sudden, I am now getting the messages that my Windows o/s needs to be validated. Of course, the OEM CDs I got with the system are missing. I used Belarc Advisor to find the Windows Product Key, but when I try to reneter it on the Windows Activation screen, I get error message:

"Code: 0xC004C008

The activation server determined that the specified product key could not be used".

So, do I need to contact Microsoft maybe or ??? I get messages that the 30-day period has expired, but I can still (for now) use the computer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

btw - I did need to do a lot of cleanup tasks on it after that started. I ran a full MalwareBytes scan, deleted some stupid web browser toolbars and other general cleanup tasks. There are several free games that have been installed, so I'm guessing one of them had some nasties in it that caused the problem.

Hey guys,

Three months ago I purchased a retail copy of Windows 7 Pro from Staples. I successfully installed and activated the OS, and it has been up and running completely legimately. Yesterday I stupidly left my car unlocked while visiting my sister at her apartment, and my Win7 CD box was in the backseat in a cardboard box along with a few other CD's and electronics I'd gathered from my move. I highly suspect whoever "broke" into my car knows the value of what he took, especially since the only other thing he took out of my car was my copy of Microsoft Office.
So, with all this in mind, what should I do? Should I contact Microsoft? Is there anything they can even do? I have a copy of the product key, a copy of my receipt from Staples, the OS is currently up and running validly on my computer, and has been for around three months. With all these these things in mind, is there anything I can do or am I out $250 if the thief installs Windows and uses my product key?

Thanks in advance for any help,
David

A:Help! Win7 product key stolen AFTER activation

Hi,

Since you have already activated Windows, the thief cannot do likewise (easily at least).

Since you also have the key and your receipt, go ahead and contact Microsoft to explain the situation. I'm not sure what they can do about it, but I don't think it will do any harm.

There are some members here that are more knowlagble about how Microsoft works, so perhaps its better to wait until one of them offers some more advice.

Golden

I am trying to clean up a Dell Latidude D630 Laptop for a friend. Apparently it originally came with Windows Vista, there is a sticker on it with a Vista Product Key. However, the laptop is now running Win7 and among other things it has Office 2007 installed. There is enough flakiness and uncertainty in this laptop's history that i'd like to do a clean install of Win7 and Office 2007

However, the Belarc Advisor report for this laptop does not give me a full Windows Product Key, it only shows:

"Microsoft - Windows 7 Enterprise (x64) 55041-011-1428866-86264 (Key: ends with XXXXX)f"  , and it tells me that "the full key is not stored on this computer, but the portion shown makes it unique" or some such similiar verbiage.

It does give me the complete Ms Office key. I know very, very little about installing Ms Office, but I imagine I could get it reinstalled with the product key and ID that I have

Of course, I have none of the Dell CDs that presumably came with this laptop when it was new. I *do* have a win7 CD that came with my own Dell Latitude E620, and I'd hoped to use it, but I doubt I can do that without a complete product key for the D630.

Is there any way to get Dell or Microsoft to fill in the rest of the missing key? Is it possible to (free or cheaply) upgrade from windows Vista to Win7 using the Vista Key that I have?
