Windows live mail export

Q: Windows live mail export

I am using Windows Live mail in Windows 7. I want to reinstall Windows 7. Obviously I want to preserve all my contact e mail addresses. I have tried to export them to a memory stick which worked OK. Hoever, the addresses were save in Xcell form. I will not be installing Office this time because I only have version 2000, which does not run very well. How can I save in straightforward text form which is useable?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi andsome, I suggest getting a Windows Live ID by creating a Hotmail dot Com account, use it to sign in to Windows live Mail. Export your contacts in .csv format then import to new account. Now you will never lose them. If using other account/s, it/they can be added to WLM, use POP to access them if possible. You can delete the Hotmail account if you want.
P.S. I'm using WLM last release version of 2009, its far superior than the latest version. I have a copy if you want it.

I have an Windows (Vista) notebook with outlook 2007, and now I have an new notebook with Windows 8.1. Where I want to export my mail & contact to Windows live mail, how can I import this in WLM on my other notebook?

I already have configure my mail on WLM where I can receive and send messages. I tried something with the program Mailstore 8 but my mail is now on another computer.

I also find this link: how to export mail, calendar contact in outlook to windows live mail clientWith the "Outlook Conversion Application" solution but is this possible on different computers and has WLM an import function?

A:Export mail and contacts from Outlook 2007 to Windows live mail 2012?

Don I might be way off track here mate but was the Outlook account the same email address as you have set up in WLM?

Just a thought you might try adding an account to WLM using the old address and password. I did this with my old account from my service provider then went to a Hotmail account.
Now admittedly it was still within WLM but worth a try.

What I will do is try and add my work account (Outlook) to my WLM and see if it works.

PS It added the account but I have to get the POP and STMP settings right first.

This thread was previously closed due to lack of answers, however I found a solution.

When importing a csv file into Hotmail, the email address field is expected as "E-mail Address" however in the csv file created by Windows Live Mail the email address field is "Email Address".

Note the missing hyphen. This means that the email address is not transferred over to Hotmail.

The solution is to edit the csv file using Notepad - simply add the hyphen to the top line of the csv file, save the file and import it into Hotmail.

If you have the same problem with other fields, a useful test to see what field names Hotmail expects is to export a contact from Hotmail and then inspect the csv file which is created using Notepad.

Windows Live Mail is Hotmail, with a new look. So I am confused as to what you are trying to do.
It sounds like you created a whole new name for Windows Live Mail... you didn't need to do that.

If you just open Windows Live Mail and logon as the HotMail name you will see all of the contacts.

If you exported them to the thumb drive using the export option and then import them with the import option it should work. (I admit I haven't tried moving emails from the 2011 version on Windows 7 to the 2009 version on XP.)

I installed Windows Live Mail over an existing Windows Mail on my Vista laptop and that went fine and I was able to import the old contacts. But now I want to export those same contacts to Windows Live Mail on another (XP) laptop but I can't find a way to do it. There doesn't seem to be any way to transfer, save, or backup Windows Live Mail contacts. I was thinking I should be able to save the file then copy it over my network to the other computer but I can't find it. Anyone know how to do this?

A:Export Windows Live Mail contacts??

From the lack of responses I have to conclude that there really is no easy way to transfer Windows Live Mail address book contacts from one computer to another?? Hard to believe.....

I did find one way... convert the old addresses in from Win Mail to a vcard format. But those can only be imported one at a time. Not a good option.

There HAS to be a better way, I hope....

Hi New Member here posting his first question, can you help please?

I wish to transfer the messages in my WLMail on my pc to my WLMail on my laptop.

I have already set up my email accounts on my laptop so just need advice on how to get the messages across.

Thank you in advance.

A:Windows Live Mail Export/Import

Windows Mail has an "export" function and you can save the file to Desktop, transfer to USB drive or CD/DVD and then "import" that file to the other computer.

This will work for Contacts and Mail, but I've not been able to get the Message Rules to transfer over easily.

However, I DID find the registry entries where the Message Rules are stored and I transfered those over, but WM ran VERY buggy afterwards, and I would not recommend trying it.

I'm working on a laptop with Windows 7 and Windows Live Mail 2012 is not exporting email properly.

There are 4,008 messages in the Inbox folder but the export function will only copy out ONE message. A web search finds that this function of WLM 2012 is very badly broken and apparently Microsoft is not going to fix it. No difference in its dysfunction if it's set to work offline.

Exporting from Outlook then into WLM worked fine, but WLM can only (not) export to WLM and Exchange, which requires being on a network with an Exchange server.

A:How do I get Windows Live Mail 2012 export to work?

Open the blue File menu
Select Export email > Email messagesSelect Microsoft Windows Live MailChose the export destination folder, [Make New Folder] is a bit tricky, the Folder: field doesn't always automatically get updated, I just click on the folder above it, then click on the folder I created. As long as both the highlighted folder and the name of the folder in the Folder: filed match, you're good to go.
Press [OK]Make sure the radio button All folders is the active selection.
Press [Next]The export should begin and every eMail message should be in the destination folder you chose.

Hi,

Please note that this is not Windows Live (Hotmail) but the offline Windows application with that name. I find Windows Live Mail as a great way to manage my email, I want to manage my contacts there too. However, all my contacts are currently loaded on my iPhone (I have the contacts manually created on the phone a long time ago).

Thanks for your suggestions.

A:How to export iPhone contacts to Windows Live Mail?

If you want to directly export the contacts use a small application intended to run on your PC called CopyTrans Contacts.

1. Run the tool on your computer and connect your iPhone. You can download the program from here: export iPhone contacts

2. Once your iPhone contacts appear, drag and drop a selection to a folder on your PC

3. Select the type of contact files you wish your iPhone contacts to get exported in. Windows Live Mail recognizes Windows Contacts, so select that format

4. Your iPhone contacts will be saved to your PC. Now go to your Windows Live Mail application and import the contacts from the folder on your PC where you saved them in

Friends
I've given up fighting Windows Live Mail [the client-side version] many bugs and have moved on. But I need to get the Contacts, and then the folders/Messages. Every time I attempt a .CSV Export of the Contacts WLM crashes [hangs, spins up CPU, does not resolve itself]. Anyone know the cause or cure for this?

Failing a cure of this yet-another-bug, where is the Contacts store? Anyone know its file Extension? how to safely copy until I can figure out how to extract and use?

Apparently WLM does not like any copies of OE on a system... it monkeys with Outlook Express system files when it cranks up - I guess they share stuff under the hood?.. dunno. Attempts to get answers to these various issues on "Microsoft Answer" are time-wasted, in my experience.

Hi,

I am currently replacing my old computer with a new one and part of that process is to transfer all of my email messages from my old computer to the new one. I use Windows Live Mail for my mail program. I went to the Microsoft web site and looked at the Help instructions for  Exporting and Importing messages and found it to be very straightforward.

I created an empty folder on USB drive and then proceeded to run the Export procedure. This involved selecting a destination folder for the exported files, and selecting which folders to include in the export operation. Under my primary email address, I have 10 subfolders, in addition to the usual Inbox, Sent Items, Deleted Items, etc. On the screen where I was asked what format I wanted to use, I selected "Windows Live Mail Format" .On the screen where I am asked which folders that I wanted to Export I selected "All Folders". Then I clicked Next and received a message that the folders had been exported successfully.

I then took the USB drive to the new computer, started Windows Live Mail and then attempted to do the Import operation. I chose to import all folders and then initiated the Import. I got a message that the Import was successful. At the bottom of the account list was a folder that was titled Imported Folders. When I opened it, the only thing that was shown was the Inbox and Deleted Items subfolder, and also the Outbox folder. None of the other folders that I chose to back up were there. Als... Read more

Welcome again to Seven Forums Wembley You'd want to see if you can convert the file into a .csv file that you can then import into WLM. See if these instructions allow you to create a .csv file

How to Change a Word File to a Comma Delimited File

Then use these instructions to import the .csv file

To import offline contacts into Windows Live Mail

Open Windows Live Mail by clicking the Start button . In the search box, type Mail, and then, in the list of results, click Windows Live Mail.

In the lower-left corner, select Contacts.
Click Import on the ribbon.
Select the file format that matches your exported contacts (.csv or .vcf).
Click Browse and then select the folder containing your exported contacts.
Click Next and select the check boxes next to the fields that you want to import.
Click Finish.

Both Outlook and OE/WM must be installed and functional on the machine being used to do the transfer. The import/export process both OE and WM use require some of Outlook's files in order to access a .PST file; likewise for Outlook which must use some of OE//WM's files to access messages in those stores (.DBX files for OE). The MAPI error you see means WM can't find the Outlook files it needs.Click to expand...

Hi,

I had to re install my OS. After I did that the fun of installing everything started and one of those things was Windows Live Mail.
I've done this before when I bought my new computer and had some issues importing my mail as well which was the same idea, Live mail to Live mail.

Now I'm facing the issue again and find it hard to find a simple and straight forward answer to my issue as most topics go about Windows mail or show importing methods which aren't the same as I used before so I'll try to explain as good as possible what I encounter.

I click on import messages and select email messages. Then it lets me choose a folder from which I can install. I select my external HD where the back up is. Then when I want to add it I get the option to either select the folders I want to add or I can add all of them. Strange thing here is that it doesn't show my inbox or any subfolder, and I had many subfolders, but only shows the deleted folder. When I do proceed it adds that what it showed and I don't have anything imported other then the deleted folders.

Now I might be doing something wrong as in the past this was the way I could import and export. Maybe I don't have enough rights for the folder?
I do hope that someone can help me out and have a straight forward solution because if I lose all these emails I will go crazy

Looking forward to any help.

Jeroen

Make a sub folder call it backup
Click on options/ email
Click on export mail
It should pop up with all the folders, in box etc.
highlight each folder. You will have to do it with the crtl key because using shift key sometimes does not work
It will then give you a browse where to put it. Put in the backup folder you made. Them copy and paste the folder onto the flash drive
On the new computer you will do the same thing bit you will pick import instead of export

I want to move some Window Mail emails between computers. Friend has been using MSN Explorer with Hotmail for 7 years on a now very old Dell Inspiron. Recently bought a Toshiba laptop (Vista OS, unfortunately). She wants to export e-mails in some local folders on the old (XP) laptop to her Windows Mail (WM) account on the Vista computer en mass.

We know we can forward every e-mail to her new account, but we're talking about 1,000+ e-mails. Many have attachments (pictures). Unfortunately, Hotmail saves all e-mails with the extension ".email". WM messages are saved with the extension ".eml", so it's not possible to import the messages directly into WM.

Does anyone know of a way to export a large number of e-mails from MSN Explorer in the ".email" format so they can easily be imported into WM?

Then the last step - copying the export from the hard drive to a removable medium fails. Eg I put the export into a folder on the desktop, but it won't copy to a USB flash stick: it gets started and then hangs - suddenly saying it will take 20+ hours to complete. There is no conceivable space issue. How can I do this last step, which is the key step? Have MS put in a spoiler?

I've been wrestling with this for days. Help! Please!

Hello Johngu, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Double check to see if you used the same method in the tutorial below. It has always allowed me to place the exported folder on any storage device.

Hope this helps,

I recently was having trouble with my Windows Mail so I Exported all my files to a Windows Mail folder I created in My Documents. I have a dual core 64 bit HP PC with a VISTA HOME Pro OS. I use Google Chrome as my browser. The email files were exported in the format ".eml" (I was not given any choice). Later, when I tried to bring them back Windows Mail Import only looks for "Microsoft Exchange, Outlook, Outlook Express 6 or Windows Mail 7" so sees no files to import. This makaes no sense , to export in one format and import in another. Is there any way I can change the format of the files so I can import them? Thanks for any help.

Just wondering if anyone else has had the following experiences recently;

First, when I opened Windows Live Mail today, one fortnightly recurring event notification from my Live Calendar started sending reminders via Live Mail to me. About ten events were immediately loaded and showed as Emails in my In Box. I deleted [unopened] all the subject Emails, followed immediately by emptying of the contents of the Deleted Folder.

However, the Emails kept coming, and the only way to stop the problem was to open the Calendar, select the subject Event and delete all future recurring instances. By that time, Emails for notifications into the middle of 2011 had been received, and I treated those the same way as detailed above.

Second, for the first Email that I wished to send after this strange behaviour, this anti-spam security clearance panel appeared;

I needed to complete the clearance, before the Live Mail email was sent.

Now I'm left wondering what this was all about?

MS and their mail systems are giving me grief. I have a Vista 32 PC using "Windows Mail" and want to transfer email folders (lots) and messages to Windows 7 using Windows Live Mail 2011.

Note: Windows Mail was a replacement for Outlook express on Vista.
Windows Live Mail 2011 is a replacement for Windows Mail on Windows 7.

I tried a couple of things.

1) Basic Export and ImportI exported relavent files: Account info, Contacts and all the messages to a folder (in Windows Mail format) on old computer and used the old "Addias" transfer - copied folder to stick and RAN it over to the new computer.
- Imported (using the Windows Mail format) the Account info successfully,
- imported the Contact info successfully.
- Import Messages - appeared at first to be successful

Issue: Message folders appear to be renamed and some folder names have been truncated, not all folders appear to be there. (Looks like "long Name folders greater that 8 characters get truncated)

So...

2) Tried the "Easy transfer mechanism (Vista and Win7 transfer utility) - but couldn't get the new computer to see the Vista even though I could see them on the network. I thought that this would transfer the folder names correctly.
I'm about to try a time consuming effort of coping folder by folder (export/Import)
What I am more concerned about is that the individaul messages may have the same issue Ie not all coming accross and subject names being lost.

A:Solved: Troubles transferring Windows Mail Vista to Win7 Windows Live Mail 2011

I get a little nauseous just thinking about Windows Live Mail 2011, much less expending effort to use it, but I would try installing it on the Vista and see if it has the option right up front of importing stuff from Windows Mail. If it does, and happens to work correctly, then all you would have to do is find its files and copy them over.

By the way, are you putting on airs with "Addias" transfer? We plebeians just used "sneaker net."

This is a slightly annoying problem. I've disabled Windows Live Messenger from starting up, both through Messenger's options and through MSCONFIG. The program doesn't start when Windows starts. But when I log on to Windows Live Mail through a web browser, Messenger starts up on it's own. I cannot figure out a way to disable this. I've looked through Live Mail options and can't find anything to denote starting up the program. I only use my Live Mail account for junk mail, but need to check it occasionally and would prefer it if Messenger didn't start up on it's own.

I am trying to move my Windows Mail In Box folder from my laptop (Vista 32bit) to my new PC (Windows 7 64bit) with Windows Live Mail.

I've followed a few tutorials but I wind up with the folders and no mail.

I made a folder on my Vista Desktop and exported my Windows Mail There.

I then tried moving and also tried copying that folder to a USB Mini Drive. I get an error message saying Are You Sure You Want To Move Without Properties. Propteties can not be moved.

I said no and it stops. I say yes and everything moved but the mail itself. When I import it to my Windows Live Mail, I wind up with my folders but no mail in them. So, I'm guessing the "properties" are the actual mail.

I am going crazy here! Can someone give me a Step By Step way of doing this for dummies?

Thanks So Much!

Bob
