I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Win 8.1 Pro Update
Firefox 28.0
Win 8 Desktop Mode

Example attached is a screen clip from Google Map - the + and - (zoom ) not shown in the box.

User error is most likely the cause; but Personalization changes have not corrected the issue. The Win 7 box does not have this problem.

That is an issue with Google Maps. I get it with my laptop that runs Xubuntu 14.04 LTS, when I view Google Maps in Chrome.

Dear mods, I have noted a faint white dash (about 3 inches) in the middle of my P51 Screen which appeared a couple of days back. It looks somewhat like a stuck/dead pixel case. As possible solutions, I have tried the following : i. Battery Drain for 30 mins, and re-checkii. Disable/Enable the Graphic Card Provided that there are no easy solutions, I wish to know whether the replacement of screen of my product (which is still under warranty) will be covered or not? Regards,B.

A:Lenovo G580 screen goes white display

hi sameerjha28,
Welcome to Lenovo Forums!
You can try doing this:
-Turn off the computer.
-Unplug AC Adapter and remove the battery.
- Hold the Power button Down for at least 10-15 seconds, Then try reconnecting the AC adapter only and leave the battery out, turn it ON and see if it will make any difference.
- If it powered on Try it with the battery and check if it would still turn on properly.
If the above steps did not work Try an external monitor and check if it works there.
I would suggest Contact Lenovo Technical Support for service if the steps above did not help.
Hope this helps,

Hi, I 'm having problem with my new laptop screen display. (Thinkpad X1 Yoga 2nd  signature edition)I have noticed that there is like 2 different color areas. It's really visible when i'm displaying a white page. There is an 'external frame', 2cm  width from the screen edge, all around. In the external rectangular form, the white color seems yellow.  At contrary the center one has perfect white. As you can see here : Note: The problem is permanent. It also appears in the bios and in the display checking control. My laptop costed me almost $3k, I'm really disappointed. Is anyone experiencing the same problem ?

Hi there,  i was working on the computer yesterday when all of a sudden my screen turned black and white, and hasn't gone color except when it's locked. I can't find anything in the control panel to fix it, and my drivers are up to date. The one solution I saw offered for a similar issue was to put windows+ctrl+c, but that doesn't do anything for my screen. I've restarted it too, of course.  Help! I'm an interior designer and NEED color. I'm assuming the attached image is black and white? but can't really tell.

My Sony Vaio recently started acting up. I've been using this laptop for a couple years now and works perfectly fine. All of a sudden, it started showing white line and blurry display whenever I turn on the computer. I have tried to "drain power battery" but didnt work. When I plug it with an external monitor, it works perfecly fine with that external monitor. I have tried to take out the RAM and clean it and put it back in, however doesn't seem to work. Is the RAM my problem? Maybe replacing a new RAM will fix it? I'm a student with a tight budget and cant afford to buy a new RAM without knowing if it work. I was wondering if you guys can come up with a solution. That would be appreciated. Thank you for your timing and have a nice day!

I have an IdeaPad 710S 13" non-touch laptop that I've had for a little over a month.  Sometimes when I touch the lid/screen - for example, to move the laptop closer or adjust the tilt of the lid, or when opening the lid - the display distorts. Sometimes it is just this one vertical section of the screen (first image below, though sometimes the black areas are white) and other times it is the entire screen with vertical gray lines/sections (second and third pictures below).  I've updated the display driver but that didn't help. I think it happens only(?) when there's some pressure against the screen/lid.  Sometimes closing the lid and opening it back up fixes the issue, but other times I have to reboot to fix it.  Ideas on what's wrong and how to fix it?

Good Morning,
I have a Dell Inspiron 537s with a Dell E2015HV monitor. Since I installed this monitor in early 2016 all has gone well and trouble free. Now, when  the last two dell Display manager updates have been offered. I OK it, then just sit with an infinite blank white screen. I even went online and tried to do it manually; same white screen. All previous updates went flawlessly. Any thoughts on this would well appreciated. Many thanks.

it was something like cntrl upper case and f12 and then you pressed the same keys to revert back to original display. I have now forgotten the combination and my display is stuck in a lower resolution and has a purple and white display on my desktop.
cntrl alt and f12 just brings ups the intel graphics box. can anyone help? I have been told I will need to do a refresh if I cant find the answer and I want to avoid this.

Hello. This laptop is almost a year old (still under warranty). It was in HP service center and their conclusion is that everything is OK with laptop because they could not reproduce error with their HDD and their OS (that is what they actually said). Problem is with display. From time to time (not always) thin white line is shown on top of blue or gradiant blue or similar color (I'm attaching links to photos because they are too large to upload - if you look closely at photos, you will notice it on blue color): Photo 1Photo 2 Now, I picked up laptop from service last week and my warranty is valid for 2 more weeks or something like that. Any suggestions what to do? It seems that HP Service Center (MR Servis d.o.o., Zagreb, Croatia, Europe) doesn't care or they are not capable to properly test laptop. I paid for laptop almost 1.000,00? and month or two after warranty goes out I will have broken laptop? Thanx in advance,Stanislav Vlasic

Computer covers whole screen with either white, or white with black, and blue stripes. Multiple times a day.?
This computer was bought in 2005, (HP Media Center PC). Within the second week this freezing(it freezes, and the screen has a white or white with black and blue stipes) occured( yes second week, my brother was uninformed and thought it was normal and didnt return it. It happened often enough as to save anything you were working on every ten to twenty minutes on a bad day. It settled and slowly became less of a problem, then stoped. One day he got a virus and had to restore the computer, the freezing started up again. same as last time, it settled then stoped, a month later, i recieved this computer as a hand me down, as my brother went to college and got a MAC. That was in mid summer of 2008, a week and a half ago, i got a huge virus, i restored my computer, and the freezing started up again, after not doing it once for over a year. It has gotten as bad as freezing every 30 minutes some nights. And earlier today it froze, i turned off and on my computer, went down stairs, and when i came back it was frozen again. I had not even used and program. Please help if you have any idea whats wrong!
Things to keep in mind...
-It only happened after the computer was restored, or bought(ish)
-Its not a normal freeze where you see the programs on the screen still, the screen goes completely white, or white with black and blue stripes.
-4 years old

A:Screen Freezes and turns white or white with stripes

Then maybe it isn't freezing at all. Maybe there's a problem with your monitor, vga cable, or video card.

Try a different monitor/cable and see if that changes anything. If it doesn't, then try reseating the video card--if any--and if that doesn't work I suggest getting a cheap one from someone's old pc at least to test with.

Installing a new video card can be complicated, but google search for a guide or follow the setup instructions for the video card to the letter and you'll have no problems.

Ie freezing and louder fan noise. I did recently update the bios and a pci device driver that never installed. But now it has white screen this morning. I shut off and powered up and still white.
I took off battery and pressed power for 10 sec plugged back in and still white. Still no noise.
Any ideas?

I have the same problem. When turning on the laptop screen goes to white, I can hear windows starting but cannot see anything. I connected it to an external monitor, which will only display once windows has loaded. I then took the whole laptop apart and discovered the LCD cable was frayed due to a faulty laptop hinge. I replaced the cable and it was the same, just white. The problem I think is with the motherboard and the intergrated video card. Upon taking the whole thing apart I noticed that where the video card plugs in is right where the heat sink is and the cooling fan which gets exceptional hot. I figure it has fried the board to the extend the monitor will not work where it is plugged in, but the external monitor will work but only when windows boots. So sad to say because of the the heat this laptop puts off and if you have it sitting on your lap or bed or anywhere else that it cannot cool properly it has over heated and you will have to get a new motherboard.

A:Laptop screen starts up white and stays white

"I connected it to an external monitor, which will only display once windows has loaded"... This is normal behavior because the video signal to the external monitor is not sent until Windows loads. If you can see normal video, the motherboard video chip is good

Hi. And thanks for reading this post.
Description: Windows 7 Starter (netbook) loads , desktop is visible for about 30 seconds, then is taken over by a white screen with a submit box on the right bottom portion of the screen. Other than a one-line warning that says "You have 30 seconds to connect to the internet," there are no other messages or directions. I suspect it is some type of flawed ransomware, with an intelligent, very well-hidden code.
From a USB, using command prompt, I've tried several dozen malware scanners including HitmanPro and MalwareBytes without success.
The computer was infected on 11/18/15 and the virus seems to have deleted any previous restore point(s).
The white screen virus locks up Safe Mode and Safe Mode with Networking. The white screen also launches when trying to use explorer.exe or opening up notepad to save a file to the desktop. Tried to use a new user account to bypass the virus, but the white screen locks up the new user account in the same way.
Safe Mode with Command Prompt works.
I am thankful to be here for some professional help and look forward to the learning experience.
I followed Bleeping Computer's directions and uploaded the relevant logs from a recently run Farbar scan.
Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.

I have Dell Inspiron 5547 laptop (Touch Screen, 15 inches, 16 GB RAM and i7 4th Gen processor, Out of Warranty). Some days back, suddenly the display went dim and anything is hardly visible. After some initial investigation, the display chip (may be VGA or LED display chip) on the motherboard appears to be burnt out (may be due to voltage surge). Even the numbers printed on the chip is not readable because of which it is difficult for the local repairing shops to repair this problem.
I think Dell India Service Center doesn't deal with chip level repair and hence replacing motherboard is the only way they can fix this. This will be very costly (considering that the laptop is not under warranty so will have to pay for warranty extension, motherboard replacement and repair service) and time consuming.
Hence, to avoid all this I have come here to seek some assistance.
If there are anyone using the same laptop (Inspiron 5000 series 5547 Touch Screen Display with i7 4th Gen Processor and 16 GB RAM) then could you please take a clear picture of your laptop's motherboard or if you recognize the display chip then only that should be sufficient. In this case, I can read the chip related number from the image and try to repair it.
What are the charges for buying a warranty for the laptop, motherboard of my laptop and repairing charge?

Request your response and help.

A:Display Issue - Dim Display for Dell Inspiron 5000 (Model 5547) - Touch Screen Display with i7 4th Gen Processor and 16 GB RAM

You'll have to call Dell about the possibility of a warranty extension;  in the US, it's sometimes possible but will likely run over $300 -- or about what a board replacement would cost.
If you're getting video, the GPU is OK -- and it's more likely the power circuit to the backlight that's bad.  It'll likely cost as much to repair as to replace the board -- though you'll still be putting $300-400 into an out of warranty system, so replacing the system may be a better idea (if you do this, consider buying a 3-year warranty with the next system).

Well I had my computer on sleep last night. The power went out.. which shouldn't be a problem, as the computer went to the regular resuming windows(vista 64) screen and everything seemed to load up correctly. However, when the desktop came up everything was black and white!

I just updated my drivers in the last couple weeks. Tried restarting. Tried changing settings in the nvidia control panel. Nothing worked. Please help!

For no apparent reason a band of white that fades at the edges now appears down the centre of my display. It comes and goes when I log on/off, I'm sure the display is fine as it's brand new. I was just wondering if anyone has experienced a virus or worm that would cause this.
The display is a 19" HANNS-G using a DVI cable to connect. I'm new to this so I'm hoping I've posted OK.

A:White Line Down Display

Hi mickbenn,

Try a new driver(s). Look for new drivers for your video card and display and try that first.
Try reseating the video card and reconnect all cables.

One word about something being new... it doesn't mean it cannot fail. In my experiences, parts fail very early - dead out of box/dead in a month - or the fail after being in service for a while. (Of course there is the occasional lightning kill ) If you can try your display on another computer, or try another display on your computer, that will help rule out parts.

I hope this helps...

I've encountered an issue that is new to me. I'm working on an HP pavillion dv9000 notebook with the nvidia GeForce Go 6150 with the nForce 410 chip set and the AMD Turion 64 X 2 Mobile TL - 56 processor, using Windows Vista Home Premium.

I'm also aware that HP has identified a number of defects involving Nvidia cards that are utilized on the dv9000 notebooks. This computer is well beyond that warrenty period, so that is not an option.

Earlier today, after a few days without any power source, I replaced the video cable and the notebook LCD display was flawless, for about 3 hours, after which it went to a solid white. I restarted and got the same results. Restarted with an external monitor attached and the external monitor display the desktop properly while the LCD display was once again a sold white - indicates that its just displaying the backlight. When I say solid white, I mean no latent image at all.

I tested against a second LCD panel and got the same results - solid white (just getting the backlight).

Everything seems to point to a problematic systemboard. However, my question is, has anyone ever encountered a notebook LCD panel with an intermittant failure? Where it will display properly for a while and then displays a solid white? From my experience, they either work or they don't.

I've been using my TV as a second monitor to watch movies for about a month now with no problems. But today when I tried to watch a movie I got a black and white image from the TV. Everything is displaying correctly (with sound) but there just isn't any color coming from the TV.

I've ruled out the cables being the problem, as well as the TV, because they all work fine under different circumstances.

I've looked for a solution on the internet and now have wound up here with no success. I've tried changing the signal format from NTSC to PAL (i.e. M/NTSC --> B/PAL; though when I change the settings here, the computer changes both displays, one and two, to NTSC or PAL; meaning I can't have one as a PAL and the other as NTSC), disconnecting and reconnecting all cables, and of course re-booting.

My computer is a Dell Dimension 9100, with Microsoft Windows XP ver. 2002, SP3. The information that comes up from my ATI Catalyst Control Center says that the graphics adapter is a Radeon X600 256MB HyperMemory [DELL E173FP]/[Default TV]. Oh and the TV's a Magnavox, but like I said, the TV's working fine (cable, PS3).

I'm not sure what other information to give right now so let me know if I need to provide anything else.

Also feel free to contact me via e-mail if it suits you (<email removed>).

I have a 2014 era Lenovo X1 Carbon (20A7 -- not sure if it's 2nd or 3rd generation -- it's the one with the touchbar along the top of the keyboard)I get a number of bright white spots on my display. I had the screen replaced and this fixed the problem, but only temporarily. The spots came back exactly as before. Today, the IBM tech came in to fix the touchpad and I had him look at the display a second time. He removed the screen from the laptop lid to see if something was pressing against the display -- which would explain why two different displays would exhibit the same problem over time. Behind the screen is what looks to be an antenna that runs diagonally from about an inch down from upper left to the lower right corner. Sure enough, the white spots are appearing along this diagonal. When I run my finger across the antenna, I felt it was a bit lumpy in the area of the white spots with some speck of debris exactly behind where the brightest spot is. This makes me wonder if the irregularity in the antenna installation, as subtle as it is, is causing the backlight to become damaged over time.Lenovo seem inclined to just replace the display, but this doesn't seem to be the complete remedy. The mis-installation of the antenna in the backlid is the root cause of the problem

I am having somewhat of an issue with the video options for Black & White 2....The problem is, that I would like to play the game with maximum display options, but it only restricts me to low, or on or off in the check box things... It is quite frustrating because B&W 2 looks like such a beautiful game, and as far as I know, my PC setup meets all of the requirements. Here are my specs:

Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.0GHz
Memory: 1024MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c

Display Memory: 256.0 MB
Monitor Max Res: 1600,1200
Driver Version: 6.14.0010.5673 (English)

As you can see, my system meets all of the requirements, so I do not understand why it will not allow me to play the game at full settings. Even with the lowest possible resolution, it will not. I also updated the drivers for my video card, so I know there is nothing wrong with that... Please help a f00 out you guys!

I have a user who asking me to fix his home PC that is running Vista and I am not really familar with it. I am told that when one user clicks their Icon, their desktop comes up in color. But when another user clicks their Icon, the screeen turns to black and white. Had user check appearance settings and both profiles show Vista Basic. Is there a setting that would cause the user to be just black and white?

I'm lost! I have little knowledge about computers. However, I moved my home computer from one room to another and noticed that the display was a little off skilter when I got it up and running again. I went in to Start, Control panel, display and screen resolution. I slid that little arrow all the way to the right and when I clicked apply (or whatever), the screen went all white and it has lots of white noise. I can see the "ghost" of screens but I can't really see to do anything. Have I ruined my monitor? will buying a new monitor take care of the problem? I' really don't know how to get it taken care of. Thanks for any input!

A:Changed Monitor Resolution, Now The Display Is All White

Don't panic Is it Windows XP? Turn your computer off, (unplug it or keep power button pressed); turn it on again; immediately after the POST (the very first messages you see on screen after power-on) press F8 key repeatedly, until a list of options appear; choose the one that says "VGA mode" (can't remember the exact words); once Windows finish loading, your screen will be configured at minimum resolution and you can choose the right resolution or let Windows apply the best by itself.

If you have Windows 98 or ME, select the "Safe mode" option from the list after pressing F8 key, once Windows has loaded; go to screen properties, it must be configured to 640X480 at 16 colors; click on "Apply"; you'll see a warning about changes taking effect upon restart; accept and restart. When Windows has restarted, change resolution and color depth again (you'll have to do it twice: one for color and another for resolution).

Good luck.

First I am fairly sure MS doesnt have a windows 7 version called "ultimate black edition". Where did you purchase it?

We can only support legit software according to site rules.

I am about to invest in P72, which probably have the same screen as P71 and P70 (FHD).Is any way how I can change the white temp to D50 (5000K)? I work in print industry and I we use 5000K instead of sRGB native 6500K. Now - the  way of change is critical. I can make a D50 profile with my xRite Display pro, but that will massively cut display color outputs (visible on gradients) because you are narrowing the output from GPU. I need something how to change the color "more hardware way", similar how you can change color temp on "classic" displays via buttons. Is the display capable of that by some utility? Many thanks

My friend asked me to take a look at her computer, and I wanted to get some opinions before I check it out. Apparently, the Monitor (Dell LCD) will intermittently fade to all white. It apparently happens at random (can go a couple of days without doing it). I would have to think that it might be the monitor because if the video card was improperly seated I would think that the problem wouldn't be intermittent. Another possiblity I thought of was the video card overheating, but I suspect that it is an integrated video card (which would also lend me to think it's the monitor). I know I'll have to check it out myself, but I haven't had any problems with an LCD monitor before so I was wondering if the "Fade to White" problem is something common with them. Any input would be appreciated.

Thank you.

The computer is a Dell Inspiron 1525 Laptop Computer running Windows Vista.
Last night a small white line randomly appeared underneath the taskbar, bumping it up a millimeter and then it grew and covered the whole taskbar and parts above it as shown in the pictures (attatched).
This white line shakes a bit and reflects the actions of the mouse (Pic 2).

I restarted the computer to see if it would fix it but instead, i got a BSoD when the computer turned back on.

Can you please tell me the resolutions to this and if you need any further info ill post it.

If possible go ahead and send a crash dump over. Though honestly that looks like the backlight on the monitor has gone crazy, or perhaps a video problem, so the bsod may be unrelated. Still doesn't hurt to try.

At least from the pictures that looks like it's a physical light being emitted from the back (kinda like the monitor went bonkers there on the bottom) and less of a software predicament. Again though, best to test out software possibilities before considering it hardware.
