Q: Auto-docking windows

My graphics card is a nVidia GeFource 880GT, 512MB, SLI

In the process of setting up the system, I must have accepted some setting that often causes windows (particularly daughter windows) to fly to the edge of either monitor 1 or monitor 2.

Anyone know how to stop this? My eyes are red from looking!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

My bad ... never closed out this thread. I have nVidia graphics adapters (an 8800GT and a 9500GT) and they are configured by nView Desktop Manager. Under "Windows" it has an option to "Snap window edges by:" ... this allows "No window snapping" or a number of pixel options to allow your windows to snap a fixed distance from the window edge. I changed that to "No window snapping" and, surprise, they don't snap to the edges anymore. I suspect it pays to read all this stuff in your control panels. At one time I must have thought it cool ... that wore off quickly. Sanity restored.

I have a Latitude E7740 that runs Ubuntu Xenial (16.04). I dock it to a "Dell EURO2 Advanced E-port II" docking station. 
If I boot it in the docking station, everything works fine, and I find all my two DVI-connected monitors. 
However, if I undock, then put it into the dock again while running, it fails to enable the screens. I'm using a script called autorandr for switching between display modes - it uses xrandr. It tries to run:
xrandr --output DP1-1 --gamma 1.0:1.0:1.0 --mode 1920x1200 --panning 0x0 --pos 0x0 --rate 59.95 --reflect normal --rotate normal --output DP1-2 --gamma 1.0:1.0:1.0 --mode 1920x1200 --panning 0x0 --pos 1920x0 --rate 59.95 --reflect normal --rotate normal
But the X server responds with:
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)  Major opcode of failed request: 140 (RANDR)  Minor opcode of failed request: 21 (RRSetCrtcConfig)  Serial number of failed request: 48  Current serial number in output stream: 48
Running this exact command after booting in the dock is doing the right thing, but after undocking then docking, it doesn't work.
Any ideas here? I have updated to the latest BIOS version.

Hello -  My x220 does not lock into  Mini Docking Station Series 3 that I bough recently. The rubber pads on the battery seem to be preventing the laptop from being docked. (Not sure if I am doing something wrong instead.) Also I am trying to set up a multi monitor display ( Dell U2415). Will appreciate some inputs on how I should resolve both the issues or a link if that has been covered before .

I would like to completely disable auto run / auto play in Windows Media Player 12 on Windows 7, and I cannot find a way to do so. I've searched the web endlessly, and there are lots of suggestions, but nothing works. I have disabled every type of auto run / auto play I can find, but if Windows Media Player is open and I insert a flash drive, CD, or DVD, whatever I'm playing is interrupted by what was inserted even if it's not media. Just a plain, blank flash drive does this.

Has anyone else been able to figure this out?

A LE877AA#AB dock is paired to an Elitebook 2560P.   Several new A9B77AA#ABA units are available.  The HP EMEA website indicates (click here): HP EliteBook 2540p, 2560p, and 2570p Notebook PC (The combination of the HP EliteBook 2540p Notebook PC with the HP 2570p Docking Station may result in a limited functionality of some of the docking station's connectors.)  I think this indicates that the 2560P is compatible.  Newegg's listing of the A9B77AA#ABA (click here) indicates compatibilty with the 2560P as well. Can anyone confirm that an Elitebook 2560P will work with the A9B77AA#ABA units are available?Which of the four USB ports is the only 3.0 port? When confirming: if you have actually docked an Elitebook 2560P in a A9B77AA#AB, please state this in the reply.  Thank you

I have Word 2002, SP3, for Windows Office XP Pro.

My problem is I want to permanently turn OFF the autocorrect options (all of them: correct initial capitals, correct first letters of days, etc etc, autoformat, as well as auto text and auto type).

Yes, I have unchecked all the boxes in Tools > Autocorrect Options, the problem is I have to painstakingly go though all the boxes every time I open Word and uncheck them. My setups are not remembered.

I can't figure out how to make these options stay set this way.

I've tried installing the Office Resource Kit and setting a system policy (though I am the only user on this PC), but no success.

I had to rebuild my system a month ago -- before that, I never had any problems, Word seemed to remember exactly my preferred set up and saved autocorrect options etc to the normal template.

I checked the normal template and it is in Doc Settings folder where it should be.

I searched the forums and Word help but can't seem to find any advice, mainly because most people usually run these options and they only wish to modify the instances where they apply, rather than permanently disable them.

You need to check Control Panel, Power Options. (screenshot)

Note the tabs. In this dialog you set your options and they are set for the Power Scheme shown. In Laptops, there are usually 2 schemes listed, one for AC powered and a separate for Battery powered.

Desktop OR AC powered Laptop, the only thing you MAY want to turn off is your Monitor.

Does Windows 7 have a built in function - and API or something - to aid the creation of "docked" windows?

A program I use has recently stopped displaying windows (or "panels" in its terminology) that used to be docked in the corner of another window. Before I remove and reinstall this program - a cumbersome process - I want to be sure I haven't just accidentally turned off a Windows display capability this program uses.

But I think in the case of an application moving windows as a group it's done by the program code. The only thing I heard of that splits a window is a Splitter Control. Before reinstalling the program I would look to see if it has its own forum. Someone may have dealt with the same issue.

We have a GPO that makes screensaver automaticly activate after 10 min.

After the updating Windows today (NOV 2, 2017) on my new XPS 15 all functionality on my TB16 Dock had failed.
I fixed it by going to Windows Device Manager and manually updating the drivers for the Thunderbolt Controller - 1575.

I have tried the trick of right click icon > properties > change icon > and I select an icon that is there but it never seems to load.

Not a deal breaker but annoying none the less.

Hi All,  I have an EliteBook 840 G1 with a docking station. When I have the laptop connected to the docking station the network is fine.  If I leave the laptop connected to the docking station, turn the laptop off and then undock it, and then turn it back on, once the laptop has logged on, it runs incredibly slow, and the CPU has a 100% usage. If I then reconnect it to the docking station or connect a wired network connection to it, it suddenly starts working normally again and CPU usage drops to a normal amount of usage.  So it's a wired network issue. Can I fix this? No I don't seem to be able to.  I can only find A temporary fix, which is to uncheck LAN/WLAN switching. This is not ideal as we need to switch to LAN when docked to access certain shared drives. Things I have tried:  Updating Network driversUpdating Docking station driversUpdating BIOsUninstalling Network drivers and reinstalling them Disabling network card and re-enabling it Updating the Windows 7 image Turning LAN/WLAN switching on and off (restarting in between)Updating Various other drivers that were long shots at fixing the issue.  Any ideas? other than turning off LAN/WLAN switching?

Hi, Over the last month or so I have been having issues with Windows Explorer freezing and re-starting.  It seems to get more frequent throughout the day. If I connect my laptop to the docking station (advanced) or connect an external monitor, keyboard and mouse I get the issue, but if I use the laptop as a standalone........................ no problems. I have only had thsi issue for the last few weeks, but can't pinpoint the update that caused it. Any advise...................... please! Mike

Sounds like you have lots of issues here. I'd start by making sure the BIOS is updated first Next, make sure you have the latest drivers installed for your unit. You can go the ThinkVantage System Update tool for this (Start->Programs->ThinkVantage-System Update) I would also highly recommend running the Lenovo System Toolbox utility just to make sure that are no issues with your systemboard: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67520 If your unit works find as a standlone, the problem might be BIOS/driver related. Let me know if this works out for you. Best,Mark

Hello all!

I just got a Rosewill HDD docking station R309 to pair with my backup drive, a Western Digital 1T. The drive was working in my desktop as a backup, I gave the PC to my son, and took out the back up, It's got all my music and photos on it plus other stuff.

Windows 10 doesn't recognize the drive. I have everything correctly connected, all lights light up, so all connections are tight. I checked for it in Device Manager, and it shows up there under my laptop's hard drive as working properly. So I went to Disk Management and it shows up as Disk 1 and again as working properly.

A box popped up to say I have to initialize the disk before Windows will deal with it. Then it recommends a GPT.
If I go ahead with this, will it wipe out all my stuff from my hard drive? It'll kill me if I have to lose all my pictures. The rest of the stuff I have backed up on DVDs or CDs. My pictures are only partially backed up as at the time, I was having trouble with my DVD burner. A network transfer didn't work between a PC running Win 8.1 and my laptop running 10. So I gave up for the time being so my son could use the PC.

I'm trying to do this on my own without bothering my boys. If anyone can guide me through this, I'd be so happy and grateful and most truly appreciative! Please bear in mind I am 65 years old, and while certainly not PC illiterate, things like this I am new at. So some patient empathy is always doubly appreciated!

Make sure you are using the Rosewill power adapter when using the Dock, and plug it directly into the wall socket and not a power strip or surge protector as this diminishes the power.
Be sure you are plugging the USB cable into the Back USB port (desktop) not the front or thru a Hub as these ports are weaker. If Disk Management still wants to initialize, then you can try and recover your files by using the Free TestDisk program. I have had the best luck with GetDataBack. you will need another drive of the same size or larger to restore your files to. BTW age is just a thing, I'm 63.

Hey there, I own a dell XPS 13 and recently bought a second hand Dell D3000 docking station to plug in 2 external monitors to my laptop.The XPS is currently running under Windows 10.I downloaded the lastest video and USB SS drivers, the lastest Display Link software.I plugged in 1 of the screen which worked for about 10 seconds.Now, none of the 2 external screen I am trying to connect are displaying anything.
Please note that my computer is recognizing the docking station in the device manager
Additional Step I tried: - Unplugging everything, uninstalling the displaylink software, reinstall displaylink software, plug everything back. - Didnt work.

I did the Windows creators update and everything seem to go well.  I had to take my laptop to a class, so disconnected it from the docking station.  When I reconnected it, it would not connect the keyboard and mouse from the docking station.  Dual display, and network works (although it is a little messed up since it seems to want to use the laptop monitor now when it is docked.  Typically when docked it would just use the displays when the lid was shut.  Device manager reports that there is an unknown generic USB device now.  My assumption that is the hub where the keyboard and mouse were plugged in.  I am able to plug in the keyboard and mouse into the side USB ports. I ran all the system updates from Lenovo but none addressed the generic USB device issue. I read on another forum here where people reported the same behavior with a different laptop and docking station. I have the Lenovo brand docking station.  Worked fine before the update, and just after.  Not after removing and laptop from the docking station though. Thoughts, please upvote.

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 Enterprise 64-bit and I'm having trouble connecting to 3 via the HP 120 W advanced docking station. I was able to do this in the past without issues when I was running Windows 7. I'm on a ZBook 15 (1st Gen) I know the laptop has 2 display adaptors: NVIDIA Quadro K2100M, and Intel HD Graphics 4600. When connected to the docking station, I usually ran 2 monitors through the NVIDAI via Display Ports, and the 3rd through the Intel adapter via VGA. Now, after upgrading to Win 10. If I boot the laptop in the dock, it says there is an issue with the Intel graphics adapter, so I'm only able to use the NVDIA and therefor only 2 screens. I've tried updating/reinstalling drivers for both adapters but nothing seems to work. Tried versions from NVIDIA, Intel, and from HP Directly. Whats funny is that if I boot up the laptop BEFORE I connect it to the docking station, everything works fine. Once I dock it all three monitors will come up and work just fine. So I do have a workaround, but it is a little inconvenient  Any Ideas what the issue could be, maybe I have something misconfigured in the BIOS? I think I tried changing a few settings related to hybrid displays, but no luck...

Here we are with another Windows Update fail...

Just ran Windows Updates and installed 18 new security updates from Microsoft. After the updates installed, it, of course, prompted me to restart my computer. I postponed it for another 10 minutes. About 5-6 minutes into that, my iPhone stops charging... Then next, my USB keyboard/mouse stops working. My 24" monitor stays connected, however, but everything else stops working.

I'm using a Dell 14z that connects to a Targus Docking Station... I'm not sure what happened... I tried uninstalling the Targus Docking Station from the USB section in Device Manager, and reboot, and still to no success... Tried reinstalling using the CD, and still not working.

Any ideas? Attached are screenshots of recent updates.. Also, I do not create system restores so reverting back to that is not a viable option.

Hi, tch tch, I see you have "certificates" and still no restore, after updates. I tell all the primary school kids IF windows ask's to reboot after ANY system update do so immediately.

Now use the RE "repair your computer" either from safe mode or from the OS dvd. Go past the language screen and from the options select command prompt.

First determine what Drive the OS has been assigned by the RE

At command prompt (x: sources) type:-
bcdedit | find ?osdevice? (Must inc?) (press enter).

Now use the returned as the drive letter for OS assume C:

At the x sources type:- chkdsk c:/f (press enter), 5 stages of chkdsk will run.
can take awhile. Since these were security updates the ACL's will need to be removed "F" will suffice.

Next run sfc/scannow
at the x: sources type:-
sfc/scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows (press enter)
sfc will run can take awhile

Let us know how you get on, you might need to uninstall that latest batch of updates.

I have a Latitude E6400 that I recently clean installed WIN7 ultimate on. Everything was working great and continues to work great undocked. When in the docking station (), however I tend do have problems. I thought initially it was just related to the NIC card as it seemed to only start misbehaving under a lot of network activity and disabling the NIC and running only on wireless seemed to fix it, but in ALL cases I have to do a cold boot. Simply restarting it would not help and when I finally would get logged back in after a simple restart, the CPU was already pegged. Today, however it seems that even with the NIC disabled that it also exhibits the behavior although today I was using an external USB drive connected to the docking station. i have since removed that as well to see if I can stabilize. I've downloaded and installed every latest driver/bios/firmware I could find. Nothing has worked...

What occurs is over time, and sometimes that's not long, my CPU quickly pegs at 100% and stays. There are no particular processes pegging it either. I can end process on many in my list with no change. Over the last week I've only been in the office a couple of days using the docking station and on each occasion I have problems at least 2 - 3 times within the day. The rest of the week I've been undocked and had no problems and I run this thing all day long.

Did you ever find a resolution to this problem? If you did, I hope it wasn't "rolling back to XP" since that is not really an option I would like to explore either. I noticed this problem for me started about 3 weeks ago and it only happens when I am docked as well. I have tried other docking stations, but that didn't resolve my problem either. Just wondering if you have been able to find a "fix".

So it seems that this new dell docking station doesn't seem to work well with the new XPS 13 (2015 model) that came with Windows 8.1 OS.  I had ordered 10 for our users for the hdmi output and potential 4k for monitors but it seems after hours with Dell tech support it seems that they can't get no close to resolving the problem.
The issue is that after installing the docking station software.   All but two devices are left under Device Manager as devices with no drivers (Dell Gigabit Ethernet, Dell USB Audio).  I thought I could look live without those two devices but after plugging in a Dell 4K monitor i get no out from my XPS 13 laptop.  
I tried downloading the D3100 drivers from the Dell website but it's the same install that is available from the cd-rom install and re-install doesn't update the drivers.
If someone has found any resolution to this it would be quite helpful.

I had this problem with a Latitude 7350 2 in 1 and the D3100 dock.  I'm running Windows 10.  This problem was driving me crazy

I went into C:\Program Files\DisplayLink Core Software.  Go into the Audio Driver Folder and the CdcNcmDriver folders and find the files with a .inf extension.   Right click on them and choose Install.
That should load the drivers you need for both items.  That's what finally worked for me.
If you can't see the extensions, you need to go into Control Panel - File Explorer options - View tab and uncheck the box next to Hide Extensions of known file types.

Just replaced my OS (Win 8.1) Drive, and was planning on using the old drive as a back up.

This new (and old) drive have just the OS, all my programs and media etc are on other drives.

Can I put my old OS drive, with Windows 8.1 still installed, into a USB Docking Station, and use it as a back up boot drive. In other words will this drive boot from the Docking Station if I keep it up to date (Copy Disk regularly) in case of internal hard drive failure?

A regular poster on another forum does what you are suggesting. Except he takes it a step further. Since he builds his own, the system internal drive is in a quick release setup. If the drive has a problem he pulls it out and slides in the backup. He uses Macrium Reflect to image to the backup using a docking station.

But I've also heard from others that a drive in an enclosure will boot via USB. Some techs use that to boot into a fully working Windows system so they have all the tools needed to fix the customer system during a house call.

Don't ask me about licensing issues since I'm not an attorney. But the poster who does the haedware backup drive I would think is only using Windows on the one drive that is installed in the machine etc..

My HP Envy DV7t laptop is docked to  HP USB Media Docking Station VY847AA#ABA.  It worked fine after I originally updated to Windows 10.  Recently Windows 10 applied an update and now none of the USB ports or the sound works thru the docking station.  All the devices work fine when they are plugged directly into the laptop.  Sounds play fine thru the laptop as well.The drivers say they are current.  I've done a complete system power off including laptop battery removal.  Tried plugging the docking station into all the different USB ports.  I'm at a loss at what else could be done.  HP says there are no drivers for my docking station / operating system. The docking station shouldn't be outdated, it's speakers and wiring (I think). Any help would be appreciated.Thanks

You could use cmdlet Get-CimInstance:

Get-CimInstance -Namespace root\wmi -ClassName WmiMonitorBasicDisplayParams

Multiply the horizontal and vertical image size with 40 to get resolution in pixels. For example MaxHorizontalImageSize 48 / MaxVerticalImageSize 27 = 1920 * 1080 resolution.

I have a T430s  and a Docking station. I attached 2 monitors to the docks DP and DVI ports. Windows only allows me to use 2 of the three total monitors (2 external + Thinkpad LCD) at the same time. I have already read that the HD 4000 Card only supports two monitors. However, using Ubuntu allows me to have all three monitors active at the same time. How is this possible?

I have just upgraded to Windows 10 PRO 1903 OS Build 18362.30. and windows is not able to detect my monitors when connected to docking station. If i use the HDMI cable directly in the port on laptop, it works.Previously I had to external monitors plugged in to docking station ultra, one on HDMI and other on DisplayPort on Windows 7 Pro.I have tried installing drivers of both Intel 530 chipset and Nividia Quadro M1000M. But cannot get this to work.Any help will be appreciated.

since 1 Week i?ve encountered Problems using my Dockingstation
Satellite Click 2 Pro P30W

After the Last Windows Updates the Dockingstation will only be recognized after disconnecting the Tablet, than disconnect all devices connected to the Dockingstation.
Than can reattach the Tablet-Unit, Keyboard is recognized, than attach Power and the external devices. Everything is Working.
Power On is via Button not possible when attached to the Dockingstation.

All this occurs after the Last Toshiba Updates and Windows 10 Updates comes up.
I really need Help to fix that Issue.

HelloWhen 1903 Windows update installs on my Windows 10 64 system, the docking station stops working (everyting including video, usb, etc)I rolled back 1903 and it works. So it is definetely an issue with compatibility of the docking firmware/software with the 1903 update, as all my drivers should be up to dateDoes anyone know if there is official word on an update/patch that will solve the above?BestOmar

Sorry if this has alreay been asked/answered, but I did try searching and I've not had any results even close to this scenario. To explain, understand this common office use case: go to meeting with notebook, notebook hibernates.  Go back to desk, insert notebook into docking station, turn on.  Wait 20 minutes for it to sort itsetlf out...  Ok, this seems simple from a user's perspective but I'm sure OS vendors and driver/stack designers have headaches over this scenario...  To be nice, I should probably resume into the same environment I hibernated to, then dock.  To be specific, the 'hang' is really a period of CPU intensive operation (like a kernel driver lockup) which blocks the OS interface (keyboard, mouse, display update) - it's not just a hanging application.  I suspect something to do with the wireless network adaptors because the taskbar shows the wireless icon as 'busy'.  The W541 has the Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6235 WiFi module/driver.  Or it could be MS's Virtual WiFi Miniport Adaptor...  Either way, when I get 1% of the CPU to use the kb,  I issue Fn+F8 to bring up the WiFi control panel.  This applet continuously refreshes/hiccups which again points to wireless problems.  I then disable wireless (I have Ethernet on my docking station) and this gets me my PC back ;-) My Wireless drivers are all up-to-date (2 Feb 2017). Anyo... As the subject line implies. I have a xps13 running windows 10 and I just purchased a d3100 docking station.
I assumed I would be able to run 2 monitors and the built-in digital display (3 total screens) all autonomously. 
I downloaded the drivers and then plugged into the docking station and to my dismay, the monitors are not working as I expected. 
I currently have just 1 27' dell monitor connected through the display port. (I need a dvi cable before I can connect the second monitor.)
The Intel HD graphics control panel doesn't recognize that I have multiple monitors. It only recognizes the built-in display. The system display settings do allow my to go into extended desktop mode but it's very clumsy, it won't let me decide which monitor is primary, etc...  
Am I doing something wrong?

Hello everyone. I'd like to know why win7 64bit decides by itself to auto refresh a window minute and literally the next second or two later it does not.
Lets say, I save a pic from the net, just before I go into the browser I already have my downloads folder open. I save a couple pics and I go back to the open folder and the pics are there at the bottom (I sort by date modified). I go back to the browser save another pic or anything, I go back to the folder and the pic or whatever is not there, so i have to refresh myself. I was just in that folder 10 seconds ago I seen no reason for it to not refresh now when it just did it 10 seconds ago. Now, I have not changed any setting regarding this or any explorer action. I can't even find an auto refresh option anywhere.
So how is this possible? What the heck is wrong with this OS?

I must say, I will soon be at my wits end with this OS. I paid $300 to spent more time organizing and moving files around. A lot more time. They have really screwed up explorer this time around. Explorer in XP was essentially perfect (I never even touched Vista on my machines. My wife has Vista). I'm starting to believe that win7 was just a money grab and that of the many problems with this OS will not be fixed in any hotfix or service packs, but win8 will be all better just as long as you spend another $300. A:Explorer windows auto refresh then don't auto refresh. Why?

We have a thread for this kind of thing. I can't find it at the moment. I think unsubscribed from it on accident, but I'm pretty sure its in general discussion. Explorer is working like it always does. It can be annoying that it doesn't always refresh, but I'm sure you can find a pattern, like how many added files it takes or how long it takes to "auto-refresh". The reason you don't here anything bad about Windows 7 is for three reasons. 1) you haven't looked hard enough. There are plenty of news stories with Mac lovers saying its Vista with a new paint job. 2) XP was as unstable as Charles Manson on Crack at the best of times when it first came out. 3) Vista was, well Vista. MS claimed it would run fine on 512MB of RAM, so people were installing it on old computers, and new computer were being bought that were seriously underpowered. When it wouldn't run worth a crap, everyone hated it. Not to mention the incompatibility issues that no one saw between 2000 and XP. If you didn't use Vista at all, the changes do seem a lot more drastic. If you don't like it, go back to XP SP3. Problem solved!!!!!!!

Will appreciate any help regarding this issue. 
My Gmail account is auto sending an email to all my gmail contacts without my knowledge until I saw reply posts of unsuccessful emails. Contents as such:
"Good Day.I just Uploaded a file,I would like you to view.Click Here to view. "
I too opened a similar email afew weeks back. Nothing seems wrong at first so I never really thought much about it.
Can someone help me on this? 
I have just changed my password for my Gmail. hopefully it stops the sending. but I want to know if my computer is infected or by using smartphones or tablets, will it affect the gadgets too?

A SPAMmer does not need access to your Gmail account in order to use your email address.
They can use whatever SPAM-sending program they like to send out email using *-your-* email address in the Sender's field.
Then, if any of the email addresses they sent the email to happen to be invalid, the unsuccesful delivery messages would be returned to you simply because your email address was in the Sender's field.
In order to stop this, you would have to find the person using your email address and hang them by the neck until dead. ;)

Does anybody else here have a weird issue with the Auto setting on the keyboard backlight where it only works when the auto-SCREEN brightness is disabled?  If both are enabled, the screen will auto change correctly, but the keyboard stays off all the time. It still works with Fn-Space for off-low-high, but no auto enable. If I disable the Auto-Screen Brightness in Windows, the keyboard auto will start working correctly. Enable both, shine a flashlight at the top left of the screen and watch the brightness go up/keyboard turn off. Turn off flashlight and screen goes down, but keyboard backlight doesn't turn back on. Then, turn off the screen auto-brightness and shine a flashlight. The screen will (obviously) stay the same, keyboard backlight turns off. Turn off the flashlight and the keyboard will fade back on within a few seconds. Doesn't matter what version of the Intel UHD driver is installed (23.20, 24.20.100, etc), it does the same. Newest Intel sensor drivers, newest PM driver, etc all installed. SIF has been reinstalled multiple times. Does it in both Win10 Pro/Ent 17134 and 16299. Reflashing the BIOS and ME has no effect, full CMOS clear has no effect, hooking a debugger to the light sensor data stream shows it's changing accordingly to brightness.

Have had Y410p for years without this issue. Now when I move the mouse cursor across the screen, it auto clicks/auto selects (without me tapping or clicking) and then release automatically as well. It will do this continuously as I keep moving the mouse cursor with the Touchpad. This is super annoying and causes multiple issues with my ability do most things on my Lenovo laptop. The two biggest problems are: click buttons which I do not intend and selecting/moving icons & screens which I do not intend. And it makes it nearly impossible to use the laptop for gaming. I have downloaded and reinstalled the Touchpad ELAN driver (version for my O/S Windows 8). I have gone through Mouse Properities setting and ELAN Smart-Pad settings. I have disabled Tapping, but does not make a difference. I have set Sensitivity to max Low and then max High, but does not make a difference. Any ideas on how to solve this particularly annoying Touchpad issue? Help please! Thanks.

Disable TAPPING in the Synaptic control panel. See the screen shot via the Device settings tab and properties. TAPPING is unchecked - a useless feature and a easy way to wreck and operating system and/or loose files. Its far too easy to tap drag and drop a folder or worst without realizing it until its too late. If its a system fie/folder you likely won't boot the next time or you kill an application. I have been diabling this on notebooks for decades. DEADLY feature.

I use Windows 8 Pro and I have very strange problem.

I enabled display hidden and system files, but system auto-disable its... I make it about three times, always with the same result. I don't know what causes this problem, I can't reproduce its (it isn't after reboot).

Also I have similar problem with system restore.
I disabled it, but system turned it on again.

WTF?! Does my system better know what I need?!
I apologize for the tone, but it's really frustrating...

I run a server at night to run a program file and every now and then it crashes and comes up CLOSE program.exe as an error ( i turnred error reporting off - still comes up though)

Anyway since i cant get rid of this error message is it possible to have a prog to auto kill this when it crashes? OR

A prog that can restart the program/ process on a crash or hang?

Have a look in the Event Viewer through the control panel-> administrative tools. Look at both "system" and "applications" . If you can determine the program that is giving the error you will want to reinstall that troublesome program.

Having an issue with all Dell 7510's and associated docks we've deployed to new users at my employer. The external keyboard won't work at the Bitlocker prompt. These PC's are imaged for Win10.
I've sifted through the BIOS settings and have had no luck getting it to work. One thread I found said to make sure the Post Behavior -> Fast Boot setting is set to Thorough. Verified that is the case.
Note: if I undock and dock the PC the external keyboard will work that 1st time at the bitlocker prompt, but at next reboot it doesn't work.
