Q: Solved: Internet Explorer 7 gives the error: "Internet Explorer cannot display the we

Hi.. I don't know if this is the right section, please correct me if it's wrong. Here is the problem:

My Internet Explorer 7 gives the error: "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". I cannot complete the troubleshooting. It states that there might be a problem with my firewall settings. But my Firefox works perfectly on this computer. I have completed all the steps given in this link. However, it didn't work. I cannot run MSN right now because of this. And this is not a problem that developed recently, on this computer I have never managed to run Internet Explorer.

And another point to mention: Whenever I try to visit a site via IE7, before giving "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" error, on the status-bar I see a warning for a second such that a "dns error" or something.

I have also searched this forum for this, I have found some posts consisting HJT logs but could not reached a solution for my problem. Could you please help? Thank you.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:Windows IE 8: error message "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"

Try these simple tests.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

NOTE: For the items below in red surrounded with < >, see comments below for the actual information content, they are value substitutions from the previous IPCONFIG command output! Do NOT type <computer_IP_address> into the command, that won't work. Also, the < and > in the text is to identify the parameters, they are also NOT used in the actual commands.

Do NOT include the <> either, they're just to identify the values for substitution.

IPCONFIG /ALL

PING <computer_IP_address>

PING <default_gateway_address>

PING <dns_servers>

PING 74.125.45.100

PING yahoo.com

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

<computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above. (For Vista/Win7, the IPv4 Address)

<default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<dns_servers> - The IP address of the first (or only) address for DNS Servers, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

Hi all,

I just joined this forum because I was having a problem opening websites that had videos or podcasts and I was looking for a solution.

I have a Dell laptop running Vista Ult., 4gb ram, Core2Duo T7500. Recently was unable to get Windows updates so called Tech Support and reinstalled Windows and then the tech took control of my computer to install drivers, etc. He must have been bored because he added Object Dock and VLC player, neither of which was in the original configuration.

Anyway, since then (about 2 weeks ago) there were certain websites that I couldn't access, seemed to be only those with videos or podcasts using WM Player. As I was searching this forum, looking for a solution I decided to delete the 2 additional programs that he installed as I never used them. After uninstalling Object Dock, the problem persisted but after uninstalling VLC Player, the problem was solved. There may be a setting that could have been changed, but like I said, I never had the program before and hadn't used it since I've had it this time.

Just want to post this in case it may help someone else.

Thank you for letting me join! I won't be active but I will be dropping in occassionally, moreso if I have problems...lol

I've inherited a Windows 2008 R2 server (no snickering and let's stay on topic please).

It's on a closed, flat network.

There's a webserver elsewhere in this closed, flat network.

All the other hosts in this network can go to the webserver and see the landing page.http://10.242.34.100:8000

EXCEPT the W2K8 box.

On the W2K8 box:

I've turned off IE ESC
Made sure port 8000 is allowed through the Advanced Firewall
Added http://10.242.34.100:8000 to
the trusted sites
I can indeed ping 10.242.34.100
* telnet 10.242.34.100 8000 just hangs

When I go to http://10.24.34.100:8000, it throws this error, "Internet Explorer cannot display
the webpage"

What am I missing?

Hello,,,,,
If this is not the correct forum for this description please let me know.

Using a Windows98SE operating system and Internet Explorer 6.0.2800.1106.

When I look at a TECHGUYS FORUM Web Page that displays questions/problems/solutions "Error on Page" is displayed in the lower left corner of the IE Window. The following is always the detail information no matter what forum report page is reviewed:
Line: 3
Char: 1619
Error: Object Required
Code: 0
URL: http://forums.techguy.org/windows-95-98-me/778966-solved-driver-
updates.html
If I use another computer that sits in the same room with the same Operation System and Internet explorer this "Error on Page" does not occur.

I have searched all over for a solution and best I can tell this might be a missing JAVA Script.

If this is the case can you please let me know what script/object/file/application etc. is missing or requires an update and/or download?

Thanks for your time help and advice!!!

Jerry

When I connect to my enterprises network, for some reason it downgraded my version of Internet Explorer 11 to Internet Explorer 7. It doesn't do this on my home network or on any other network I have connected to, only my enterprises network.
I have contacted my ICT department to see if they can solve this issue, and they don't know how to fix this issue.
I used the website https://supportdetails.com to check the details of my browser and what other websites detect it as, and it detects it as Internet Explorer 7 for some strange reason. When I check the actual version of Internet Explorer
by going to the Tools button and then About Internet Explorer, it says I am using Internet Explorer 11.0.9600.18763.
I am running Windows RT 8.1 which might be the reason as to why other websites/services detect my browser as IE 7, as other devices such as the Surface Pro 3, iPad and other laptops all work fine.
If there is a way to make my device be detected as Internet Explorer 11 and not 7, that would be great.

Regards, Mr Kaos

Hello everyone and thank you for participating in this wonderful site.

My computer is a Pentium 4, 2.80 GHz, Running Windows XP Proffessional Version 2002 Service Pack 2.
The problem I'm writing about has been there for about a year. All in all it's the same prolem ever since, but every once in a while some detail changes, like a new error message.
Every about 5-15 minutes the Start Menu Taskbar and the desktop icons disappear (Explorer crushes). Most of the times they reappear shortly after, but sometimes they don't, and then I use task manager to run explorer and then they reappear. Yet, sometimes the computer stucks altogether, and I have to restart. In addition to that, many popups open when I surfe the web using Internet Explorer. The popup changes every few days, but in between it's always the same one.
Another point is that while the crushing of explorer can occur anytime, it most often occurs while I open or close Internet Explorer windows.

Sometimes I get an error message, and as I said, they change from time to time. But still, here are 2:

I apologise for in advance for not being able to ask the question clearly, but if I could do THAT I could probably figure this out on my own.

Win7 is different in that the "Favorites" drop down menu has EVERYTHING on my entire computer, and I have to manually poke arond and figure out where the folder(s) I want and avoid accidentally clicking that which I do not.

And I NEVER want to access my C:\Windows folder when trying to find a Favorite that I saved some time in the past, because it would be more convenient to find the link in my favorites folder instead of poking around looking for it again online.

So instead of poking around in the morass of the internet, I'm poking around in the confused mess of my own hard drive.

When I try to "delete" this folders, I discover they aren't actually "shortcuts" to the computer's folders & files, the are the ACTUAL folders & files, and so after deleting a bunch of files off the desktop, I've come to the conclusion that this is serious and need to be fixed. Any help in this regard would be much appreciated and thanks in advance.

"Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" and just restarting IE won't help. I have to restart my internet connection all over, disconnect and reconnect. It's so annoying and I don't know what to do about it. What do I do?? I've tried getting a system mechanic program and trying that, and it just wont help. It has an antivirus with it and I use it too, and it says I don't have a virus...any ideas?

how long has this been going on? did it occur at about the same time you added or removed any hardware or software? are you connected hardwire using ethernet cable or wireless? I am assuming you have a DSL or highspeed connection. do you have a desktop or laptop, ? do you have a firewall program running too? have you tried a different internet browser like Firefox or Opera and does it do the same with those browsers?

To whomever has interest in this topic...

I am apparently one of many who have been bitten by the Trojan Horse malware. My son introduced me to this "fun escapade" by downloading something executable (I believe this is where it started). I have downloaded several of the free spyware and virus removal programs (Windows Defender, Ad-Aware, SpyChecker and one or two others) and removed some of the pieces of the malware, but I am still receiving the "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" message when I attempt to login to secure websites and various other sites. I have attempted many of the suggested ideas found on this forum and others, but to no avail (e.g. clear cache, clear history, remove add-ons, turn off firewall, system restore - failed, etc). Currently the PC has an expired version of Norton Internet Security and Norton Antivirus installed (I have attempted to remove the Norton tools but was unable to do so because it attempts to connect to a Norton website that requires a login and this fails). In addition, I have installed AVG's free Anti-Spyware and it is currently active. I really hope I don't have to rebuild Windows as this PC came with a lot of "free" software, some of which I use regularly. By the way, I've also downloaded Firefox and it has the same issue.

I appreciate any help from this forum. Thanks in advance.

Here is the log from HJT.

A:"Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" persistent problem

Based on another entry of a similar nature, I downloaded and ran winpfind3u.exe and here is the log. Hopefully this helps. I believe the problem started on 2/24/08 and I have been working on it sporadically over the last couple of weeks.

Here is some additional information that may be useful:

1. I have two users defined. When I reboot Windows and go through the logon process, it takes several minutes from the time I logon until I get the desktop screen with all of the icons. The hard drive is not very active during this period.

2. When I attempt to start the "Norton Internet Security" interface, it just hangs part way through initiation. This may be the result of the internet connection problem I am experiencing.

3. I receive two errors in the System Event Viewer during startup:
a. Incompatible version of SYMEVENT.SYS is loaded,
b. The SAVRT service failed to start due to the following error: A device attached to the system is not functioning.

I am having a problem where IE will not display login pages. This happens for mail.yahoo.com, ebay's login, etc. This problem does not manifest itself in Firefox. I have tried resetting IE settings through control panel with no effect. I have run Windows Defender and it does not find anything. I removed Avast Anti-Virus just recently to see if it was causing problems, but this did not help. Here is my log file.

in internet explorer go into options and advanced, scroll down to 'Show friendly HTTP error messages' and ensure this is switched off. Try to go to the site again and see what the error says now. This will give more of an idea to what is wrong.

Information: Dell XPS 410, Win XP Home SP-3, IE 8. I successfully removed the "Security Tool" Malaware program and recovered my display properties, but now every time I boot the machine, a popup titled "Internet Explorer cannot display the web page" appears. It does not appear to be directly related to IE. When I close the screen, everything functions properly. Internet Explorer works smothly without a hitch.

I have run HJT, Malawarebytes, AD-Aware, AVG, and Housecall. Managed to find registry keys and remove them as well as program files related to the malaware. Altering msconfig didn't help, so I'm assuming there is a well-hidden .dll file somewhere.

Short of wiping and reloading the machine, I'm at my wits' end here. I actually tried to do a repair overlay, but the machine blue-screens at a certain point. I suspect this is due to the raid controller.

Suggestions are welcome.

I just noticed [when today I wanted to change my Internet Explorer Home Page] by going to TOOLS-INTERNET OPTIONS [in IE 6] that I now get a WINDOWS DIALOGUE BOX-RESTRICTIONS. "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator."

So NOW I apparently cannot open my INTERNET OPTIONS!

I am the ONLY person using this PC. It has 2 accounts when I start it up. My account-as the ADMINISTRATOR-with my WINDOWS PASSWORD that I use everyday to start windows, and a GUEST account without a password.

I have Windows XP PRO which was originally installed on my DELL PC. I regularly update + install ALL MS WINDOWS and IE UPDATES...as I am notified whenever I start up my PC each day.

I use NORTON ANTI-VIRUS once a week, updating + scanning. My PC is part of a WIRED home network, behind a D-LINK ROUTER. I also have NORTON INTERNET SECURITY as my software firewall...but I am not positive that it is set up most effectively. I have used GIBSONS [www.grc.com] SHIELDS UP program to see if I APPEAR vulnerable on the WEB and it says I am STEALTHY.

So I WONDER how to correct my problem, ie. how to be able to get into IE's INTERNET OPTIONS and I WONDER if and HOW my PC may have been compromised [as in a security issue].

Anyone's help would greatly be appreciated.

A:[SOLVED] my Internet Explorer "Internet Options" is now RESTRICTED!

Have you got Spybot Search & Destroy? If you do then there is an option in the immunize feature to lock internet options. Uncheck this option if that's the case in order to access it again.

Hello

I had a virus on my system and removed it, While walking through fix with service provider they had me uninstall AVG anti virus so I lost name of virus. Have installed new Anti virus and have run the following utilities. Malwarebytes - found 4 errors and fixed. SpyBot - found 1 item. Addaware - found 1 item and removed.

Issue is I can not load IE explorer under Main User name or Firefox ( error on firefox is Proxy server error). IE continually gives me page display error. It will allow me to load any page that requires username and password but will not load them once you enter data. I have cleared Temp Int files and reset to default on all security settings. Have also tried shutting off firewall and antivirus and tried loading several times. Also I have tried Microsoft methods to repair and it still will not work. I have upgraded from IE 6 to 7 hoping that would help, but did same thing.

The weird part is if I switch to my backup user whether its Admin or not it allows me to use IE and Firefox under other user. I was having an issue accessing any website with username and password but have somehow fixed that by doing several resets.

I am at a loss please help. Can't seem to find any solution and don't want to have to lose data and files to re-load computer. Thanks.

IE7 displays "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage".

I am set up wireless and ip address is being served up by the wireless router.

At the DOS prompt, I can ping various internet ip addresses and intranet addresses successfully.

However, from the wireless router, I cannot successfully ping the ip address of the SONY.

I have tried resetting IE7 settings, resetting network adapters, uninstalling network adapters and rebooting, resetting router and modem.

I am writing this from my work laptop that works just fine here at home.

Any Ideas?

I'm experiencing a problem with IE. As I navigate, more often than not when I try to get to a website, I get the dreaded "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" screen. I hit the refresh/reload button 4, 5, 10 times and it eventually loads. Sometimes a website with frames loads but some of the frames still show the "Internet Explorer cannot...". Something else that happens part of the time: a page will load, but it's not the full graphics version of the site. It's more like a simple text version. This is happening on my HP laptop on my wireless home network. But I'm sitting in the same room as the router...literally 8 feet away from the router. It's a Netgear router and a Netgear WG511v2 wireless card. It's getting very frustrating. Any help?

Hello,
I live in an apartment with two other guys and we have all had the same problem. Anytime we try to open yahoo or yahoo mail it displays "Internet explorer cannot display this webpage." I have my router connected to my desktop which runs off Vista and all of our laptops are running XP. Instead of www.mail.yahoo.com it displays www.yahoo.com/r/m6. I have ran Ad Aware, Spyware Blaster, Spybot, Nortons, AVG, and spysweeper yet none of them came up with anything. I even restored my laptop back to a checkpoint before these problems started. If anyone can help it would be MUCH appreciated. I am somewhat computer literate yet if you start abbreviating and briefly giving a direction i might not fully understand Thank you very much.

My problem started 6 days ago.

Acer Aspire 5100, Windows Vista Home Premium, Internet Explorer 7 when the problem started, now Internet Explorer 8.

On the first, I turned on my laptop from Hibernate and noticed that my calendar showed it was still November 31. The time was correct. I fixed the date and went about my business.

The next day I wanted to get on Amazon.com to order a Christmas present. I had changed my password weeks before and forgot what it was. I hadn't signed in in a while. I clicked on the forgot password link and changed my password. For some reason it was taking a long time for their message w/ the link to show up in my yahoo, so I went through the process again. I got 2 messages from Amazon at once. I deleted one and used the other to change my password. I got into my account and started the checkout process. After choosing a shipping address and clicking to continue onto the next step, I got a "Internet Explorer cannot display this webpage" error page. I usually get that when my internet has suddenly been disconnected. I checked, found I was still connected. I disconnected and unplugged/replugged my wireless device. I signed in and out of my account. I restarted my computer. I went Back and kept trying and trying. Sometimes I'd get farther, but I always got the display error page at some point and never was able to checkout and buy. Then I started getting the same error page when trying to sign in to Amazon.com and sign out.

I have a home PC, that for no obvious reason, has recently started to refuse to display web pages - all I get is the standard IE7 message "INTERNET EXPLORER CANNOT DISPLAY THIS WEBPAGE".

The machine runs on XP, and is wired through a netgear router along with 2 other home PC's (both behaving as they should do). The machine has been protected by Kaspersky since new (8 months ago) and has not had any other previous problem. The machine is only used by my wife for work related stuff and has rarely used for surfing the net - very unlikely to have picked up anything from a dodgy site.

All obvious remedies have been tried (although I may have overlooked something simple) - any suggestions from anyone?

I have done a fair few hours research on the net (including posting on other help sites), but not found an answer to the problem. Others seem to be experiencing something similar.

Help much appreciated.
