Q: Strange Display flickering issue

I have Dell Latitude420 laptop, creating display flicker when I am going to open www.bseindia.com website only, except this the laptop works fine.Dell have already replaced the Motherboard (processor and RAM inbuild),but problem remaining same, can anybody face this problem previously, please help?

Preferred Solution: Strange Display flickering issue

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

If you are referring to the flickering stock ticker at the top of the site... it isn't your laptop. I also notice the website uses Java. You might want to check that your Java is up to date.

Hello, guys, as you can see in the print screens I attached, sometimes it's impossible to read anything on my screen, so forgive me if I post this on the wrong forum.

Starting this afternoon I started having a weird display issue. I'm using Windows 7 64-bit (latest SP) on Bootcamp in a Macbook Pro 13' (model 2011). Now almost always the screen is rendered illegible by some weird pixelated noise and flickering, with parts of the screen content missing (see pictures attached). As I move the mouse/type on the keyboard, sometimes the text/icon/image/whatever I'm trying to visualize appears again, sometimes not. I wasn't using the latest Nvidia drivers when it started (was ignoring the Nvidia Experience message saying that updates were available). So I thought it was a problem of outdated drivers. I updated the drivers, rebooted the system and the problem persists. When I boot the system on Mac OS, the screen is fine.

I wonder if this is some kind of virus/malware. i ran an AVG scan but it said my system was clean. Thank you very much for your help.

Hi all,
I've recently bought a Dell 7559 refurbished, with the Intel core i5 and GTX 960m. Within a day or two of use, the screen began to flicker upon booting up or waking from sleep mode, and it seems that the longer the laptop was in sleep/off mode, the worse the flickering is upon booting up. I've been trying to figure out what's going on, I've updated all drivers and such from the Dell support page, but nothing seems to fix this issue. Does anyone know what's going on? I'm certainly bummed out to have run into this issue within just days of buying the product. I've uploaded a youtube video to try and show what's going on.

A:Dell 7559 screen/display flickering issue

Hi DukeBaluk,
I’d suggest that you update BIOS on your computer to check for issue resolution. Please enter your service tag # on the link below, then download the BIOS from BIOS section onto the system and install it.
Also, we will have to perform the ‘LCD BIST’ (Built in Self-test) on the computer. Please follow the steps mentioned below to run the “LCD BIST’.

Turn of the computer.
Press and hold down the ‘D’ key on the keyboard and press the Power button.
You will see different colors on the LCD screen. Please check if the issue reoccurs on the screen.

In addition, please connect the system to an external monitor and check if the issue reoccurs.

I was trying to search, but since I have some trouble describing this problem in a few words, I couldn't find any really good search terms. So, here's my problem, and forgive me if it's been asked and answered at all recently.

I have a P4 running XPpro, a Radeon x1650 graphics card, and an Optiquest 22" widescreen monitor, which looks great at 1680x1050.

Everything was fine until about a month ago, when I updated ATI's Catalyst Control Center driver support software. It had been running already, but I updated to the newest version. Ever since then, I have had a strange recurring problem.

When the computer starts up, or when I switch accounts, the screen is... larger than my monitor. By this I mean, I can see only part of my screen, if I move the mouse to the edge of the screen, it scrolls over. It's quite odd. When I open up the catalyst control center, it shows the correct resolution, which is obviously not right. To fix the problem, I have to set the resolution to another setting, apply the change, then change it back. Sometimes, the 1680x1050 setting won't show up on the list when I change it the first time. So, I might have to change it to something else again, and THEN back to 1680x1050. And then it will be fine. Until the next time I have to restart or log out.

It's not a breaking thing, I mean, I can still get by, but it's damn strange and I can't find a fix.

I tried:

- uninstalling catalyst control center and usi... Read more

Hi there:

I was messing about with the Bluetooth features on my Acer Aspire 7535 to sync a cell phone up when I accidentally changed my display settings. Suddenly, I found myself in dual-monitor mode, looking at my desktop background without any of my icons or my Start menu. I deduced very quickly that my laptop monitor had been switched to dual monitor mode, as I was able to scroll left off-screen and bring icons over to my side of the screen. The problem, however, has persisted; and though I've used my computer's display switch short-cut, it's been of no use (Fn + F5)--the screen goes blank, and as soon as I move the mouse it goes back to the way it's been. Fixing it has been a pain, since I'm working blind--I can log-in blind, but I can't change my settings back blind. What can I do? Thanks.

I'm using:

Windows Vista Home Basic

Hi all,

Hope someone may know what's going on here.

My display seems to have undergone some changes of its own recently. Certain webpages have fonts that appear bigger, games now don't run as smoothly, they have those horizontal cut lines appearing when you move around.

Most oddly, when I go control panel -> display -> settings, the screen resolution bar, which used to only go up to 1440x900 tops, now has that resolution in the middle of the bar. None of the higher resolutions actually work if selected, but odd that they suddenly appear as options. Wonder if that doesn't have something to do with web pages seeming different and games with the same graphic setting no longer being as good quality as they were before.

I did re-install service pack 3 a few days ago, but the problem only appeared today. I also installed a few games (portal 2, witcher 2) but again, was a few days ago and the problem only happened now.

Any ideas?

I am setting up a new Surface Pro 3 for a VP in my company, and I came across a strange display issue. Whenever I right-click on an app's shortcut that's pinned to the Taskbar, the box has a dark blue color, making it nearly unreadable. When I right-click anywhere else in the system, it looks fine, as expected. It is only with the shortcuts pinned to the Taskbar. I've tried changing colors, themes, etc with no luck. Windows 8.1 is fully updated as well. Any suggestions?

hi all,

i'm having a very odd problem: all of the fonts displayed by windows are showing up in bold on my computer! I'm using win xp sp2.

this includes:

names of all icons on desktop
titles of progs/docs in taskbar
the time in my system tray
all fonts on this webpage (except the descriptions for the google ads)
the URL in my browser address bar (opera9 AND IE7)
menu names & all menu items for main drop down menus in all programs (i.e. file, edit, view, etc.)
everything in outlook 2003 - all items in inbox, message text, folder names - so annoying!
and more!
a few random things that aren't bold:

tabs and text on windows dialogue boxes (display & system properties)
text of msn messenger chats
text i type in word

generally the text on web pages is also not bold (with this one being an exception!). This is especially troubling in outlook, becuase i can't tell at a glance which messages are new or which folders contain new messages, as everything just shows up bold!

numerous web searches have turned up NOTHING on this problem, and i'm a pretty advanced user and searcher. my fonts are set to display as 'normal' (not bold) in my advanced appearance settings under windows display settings.

can i change something in the registry? someone please help!

Recently, I've been having this strange problem where a small box on the screen of a 3D application will flicker. It's only the on the 3D display, and only occurs when hardware acceleration is turned on. I'm posting this in All Other Software because it happens in pretty much every application that utilizes 3D in some way. However, this problem doesn't really occur in any games... It might be a problem that is only occuring with OpenGL but I'm not sure.

Here is a picture of the problem:

The little box inside the red circle is the flicker.

Thanks for any help!

It seems that it happens in DirectX applications too, but only when the 3D canvas is inside a window, not fullscreen.

Hey guys, first of all thanks for clicking on the thread and I'll be very informative so give me a hand here please

I am encountering a very strange issue under Windows 7 Professional RTM installed on my netbook. At completely random times, the screen will go into what I can only describe as a carousel-like mode, and the projection of the image onto the monitor will just rotate kind of like a messed up film reel or something. I have installed the latest drivers from Intel and tried not installing those drivers. I also tried disabling aero effects by switching to classic mode but instead of going into carousel mode the screen would just turn black, which gives me even less information. There are no errors displayed when the problem occurs, in either situation (aero enabled/disabled).

Here is a video of the problem (1.3 MB): DSCN4241.MOV

I'm a rather experienced UNIX user, and one of the (very few) things that disappoints me about Windows is the lack of (or perhaps my lack of knowledge of) any error log files. Does anyone know if an error log or something of the sort exists in Windows for this kind of problem? That would be extremely helpful

I should also note a few things:
-- The operating system itself is running fine when this happens.
-- If I move the mouse vertically, the portion below the cursor will turn white (you can kind of see this in the video), and if I move the mouse horizontally, the screen will stagger its rotation and I can sometimes get it to g... Read more

In my experience, 99.9% of the time this is a gfx driver issue. Boot in safe mode (which loads the minimum necessary generic drivers) and see what happens. It is a fact that some systems do not tolerate gfx driver (any driver) upgrades well; I find this especially true with NVIDIA gfx drivers. If that is the case here, roll back to the previous driver.

Hello. I have recently bought an Acer Aspire V3-574-55CP, and a few days ago I noticed that when I use certain programs (like, for example, Adobe Acrobat Reader DC or Firefox), a short line of pixels on the top left of the screen changes color. This line appears and disappears at random when I move the mouse, and it's always on the same spot. When I try to take screeshots, the line doesn't appear on them. I've experimented for a while to see what triggered the line to appear, and it seems that it happens when there is text being displayed on the screen, like if I have Notepad open with some text with it, so maybe it has something to do with contrast (like a white background with letters on it), but I'm not entirely sure.I've also connected the laptop to a TV to check if it was just the laptop's monitor, but the line appeared on that screen too.I don't know if it helps, but sometimes I was able to move the cursor to the line, and it seems that the cursor goes over it (it can be seen on the second picture).I've also tried changing the resolution a bit, and it seems the line still appears. Hello, I’ve got a very strange issue with several old games, and I'm trying to find a solution. I'll do my best to describe my issue.

I’m sitting on laptop, Lenovo Y580, packed with i7 quad core cpu and Nvidia Optimus system (intel hd 4000 + nvidia 660m). It’s all working on Windows 7 x64 (SP1 + All updates). All drivers are fresh and Nvidia driver is 332.21.

My problem is that in some old games (direct x 6 and 7 era) 2d elements flicker horribly, i'm talking about interface, menus and so on. 3d is ok. And that’s all only on Nvidia.

I saw this problem in several different games:

Rainbow Six (1998)
No One Lives Forever (2000)
Blood 2 (1998)
Gabriel Knight 3 (1999)

I've got a friend with the same laptop, the only different thing is that he has Windows 8 installed, no flickering. Same driver for nvidia.
I also have another friend with Nvidia Optimus laptop from another vendor and he is on Windows 7, he has flickering.
Aaaand i also found this guy in the interent with the same exact problem: https://forums.geforce.com/default/t...ents-and-fmvs/

So, i’m trying to understand what unites games mentioned above? (directx 6-7 i suppose?)
And what has changed in Windows 8, so flickering is gone?

p.s. I was able to launch NOLF and Blood 2 in window mode, flickering was gone, other games don’t have windowed mode.

p.s. i’m Russian, sorry for my English.

I also need to say that modern games run perfectly on my laptop. And also there are no flickering on Intel graphics, but it has some other issues which are not important

Hello all

I wasn't to sure where to post this particular thread. Please excuse me...

Since January of 2014 I have been having an issue with the display. I'm not to sure how to describe this one, because I have never came across anything like it before. But from the bottom of the screen, there seems to be a flickering of some sort..I do have a video that I have uploaded. The quality is not at it's best, so please excuse that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJVC...ature=youtu.be

The video card that I have is a GeForce GTX 780. Current, Driver version 340.52. Now this will happen only when the computer has been turned off for about 6/7 hours. It doesn't always happen every-time, but when it does, it will continue to flicker until' I reboot. Sometimes it even takes 3/4 reboots to make it stop. Or it will settle down eventually give Or take 3 to 6 minutes on it's own accord. I just want to add that I hardly had any problem during the months of April and August. From in-between those months it use to happen, maybe once a month, if that. Which leads me to believe that it's the drivers that are at fault?

I use my computer during the day for work purposes as well as pleasure. Games, Browsing the net. But I have never experienced any of the flickering at the bottom of the screen during the day and the late evening if that makes any sense?

Thank you all for any input

Firstly, thanks for reading this.
My PC is as follows;
Intel Core i7 3770 3.4GHz
16GB Corsair RAM
400GB Samsung SSD
Windows 7 HP 64bit
All the latest updates
AV - Avast Free
For some weeks now I have noticed that most of the time whenever I start IE, my homepage is Google, if I start typing in the browser it appears to freeze momentarily and then reset so that the first few characters are missing.  Sometimes it will do this after I have been using the browser for a while, sometimes immediately. When this happens IE begins to behave erratically, pages not loading, or loading and then disappearing again, but if I then click anywhere on the desktop the icons begin to flicker. If that happens and I try to open folders sometimes they open on a double click and sometimes they don't, and sometimes the contents are missing.  I can resolve the situation by restarting explorer through the Task Manager but I sometimes have to restart the PC.
I have scanned with Avast and Malwarebytes Antimalware but neither have found anything insidious.  I am concerned that there is a virus or Trojan on the PC but that it's well hidden.
Other programs, Prepar3D, Word, Outlook seem to run ok.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

I have Dell Inspiron 5547 laptop (Touch Screen, 15 inches, 16 GB RAM and i7 4th Gen processor, Out of Warranty). Some days back, suddenly the display went dim and anything is hardly visible. After some initial investigation, the display chip (may be VGA or LED display chip) on the motherboard appears to be burnt out (may be due to voltage surge). Even the numbers printed on the chip is not readable because of which it is difficult for the local repairing shops to repair this problem.
I think Dell India Service Center doesn't deal with chip level repair and hence replacing motherboard is the only way they can fix this. This will be very costly (considering that the laptop is not under warranty so will have to pay for warranty extension, motherboard replacement and repair service) and time consuming.
Hence, to avoid all this I have come here to seek some assistance.
If there are anyone using the same laptop (Inspiron 5000 series 5547 Touch Screen Display with i7 4th Gen Processor and 16 GB RAM) then could you please take a clear picture of your laptop's motherboard or if you recognize the display chip then only that should be sufficient. In this case, I can read the chip related number from the image and try to repair it.
What are the charges for buying a warranty for the laptop, motherboard of my laptop and repairing charge?

Request your response and help.

A:Display Issue - Dim Display for Dell Inspiron 5000 (Model 5547) - Touch Screen Display with i7 4th Gen Processor and 16 GB RAM

You'll have to call Dell about the possibility of a warranty extension;  in the US, it's sometimes possible but will likely run over $300 -- or about what a board replacement would cost.
If you're getting video, the GPU is OK -- and it's more likely the power circuit to the backlight that's bad.  It'll likely cost as much to repair as to replace the board -- though you'll still be putting $300-400 into an out of warranty system, so replacing the system may be a better idea (if you do this, consider buying a 3-year warranty with the next system).

Recently, our home desktop computer (this HP Envy 700-216) has been causing the top of our monitor to experience some flickering. It seems to be the top pixels that are being affected, and I'm not entirely sure what the cause is. It goes across the entire display, but one portion is the most prominent because it flickers a white rectangle (near the left.)

This seems to occur only when the display is moving (i.e. when I'm typing, watching a video, or moving the mouse.) It's almost as if it's trying to mirror something, because the effect will be very prominent if I open File Explorer. In fact, I was able to snap a picture of it while this occurred:
It's connected to an Acer H203H monitor via VGA.

Two things seem to solve this issue (temporarily): A system restart, or unplugging the VGA cable and reconnecting it. I'll try turning the monitor off and on the next time this problem occurs to see if it fixes it with any change of power (i.e. the monitor will shut off during a restart, with the VGA unplugged, or if I manually turn it off.) I'm thinking it's a VGA cable issue, a monitor issue, or a driver issue. We just bought this Envy desktop refurbished about a year ago, so I'd be surprised if it was a video card problem. Although, we go through monitors like crazy at our house and my dad usually ends up buying another cheap monitor where he can find one. Perhaps I'll have to pitch in some suggestions if this one ends up dying ... Read more

A:Flickering at the top of monitor display

I'd start with basics:
1) try a different cable
2) try a different port
3) test the monitor on another computer and/or test a different monitor on that PC

That should determine the cause (ie: PC or monitor).

Hi, I have an issue with my external HD display flickering sometimes. Actually it goes black every 2-3 minutes and then it comes back to normal. The connection is via HDMI cable and it happens on every display i connect. it is the same if I go in extended mode or just single external display with laptop lid closed. thanks

A:External display flickering sometimes

For troubleshooting, try it on a different display with the same HDMI cable.

Hey guys.
This is really difficult to explain but i'll do my best.
When I load up my Laptop, occasionally it will display colours schemes to look like XP and not my colour scheme, but then if i click google chrome the top bar (right at the top) would be what an XP internet browser looks like and such and then it'll flicker for a bit until it comes back to my normal chrome bar (This isn't anything to do with chrome).
When I close all application that this is happening too it'll then go away and my PC will be normal.
Any advice?

A:Windows 7 display flickering like it's XP

Hi -
Basic information from M/soft Windows 7 help topics.
To change the default Windows color scheme, follow these steps:

Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
Double-click Display, and then click the Appearance tab.
In the Scheme box, click the color scheme you want.
If you want to define a custom color scheme, click a screen element in the Item box, and then click the color you want in the Color box.
NOTE: For screen elements that contain text, you can also specify a font style, size, and color.
Click OK.

Regards -

I have a t480p that I'm trying to drive three total displays: Built in display + 2 external monitors Lenovo (P27h-10) The issue is screen 1 and monitor 1 are fine, however, second monitor has a very discernable flicker.  I've tried adjusting the refresh rate through windows advanced settings but did not help on the second monitor.  Also reducing the resolution does help with the flicker but because its not a native resolution everything on the screen looks fuzzy. The monitors are attached directly to the t480p (I had a hub which I took out of the loop just to simplify).  I would like to eventually get to using the lenovo supplied hub but can live with plugging in all the cables. I am also running Windows 10. Open to trying anything at this point.

Greetings HP Fans. I purchased an HP Envy X360 about 8 months ago.  I've noticed over the past couple of months that the display will blink (flicker) off for a fraction of a second on a regular basis.  On average ever 20 - 30 secords.   I had read that it was a Google Chrome issue, but I've noticed it on everything, programs, apps, etc.  It happens in both regular and tablet mode. I've been searching the blogs, but I've not found anything that addresses this particular issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My HP 23es monitor (brand new as of May 7th) is flickering. It most often happens while I'm scrolling through Facebook or watching Youtube videos (it occurs when opening a video or when I pause/play the video). It also happens while I'm gaming and is incredibly disorienting and distracting. My Windows 10 is up to date, my video drives are up to date and optimized. While my monitor drivers are up to date, when I attempt downloading the latest driver and overwrite what I currently have it gives me an error message saying "Access is denied" despite being both the only user and only authorized/admin user. I'm at a loss. If I can't fix it then I'll return it and look at other monitor options.

I have hp envy 2015 and the laptop display is blinking. This blinking is best described as the frequency of the refresh rate of display was not correct. I got envy with winows 8.1 but upgraded it to 10. I have used win 10 for a week but there was fault whit the screen so the laptop was sent to hp repair where they updated bios and replaced the faulty display. 6 months later i face a NEW problem with flickering display. I can best describe it as very slight blinking of the whole screen but it is very anoying when you open aplications or programms that have contrast of dark colors. I made sure all my drivers are updated, i made sure that the refresh rate of the screen is made 60 Hz (max). Backlight is fully bright and there is no interference whit lights in the house cuz the problem is present in darkness. I even tought that there might be the ptoblem with program compatibility but that might not be the case. I am out of ideas what to do please help .

A:Flickering Display on envy 2015

Envy 2015 is not really a model we need to know the HP Model number: http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c00033108 Sounds like a hardware issue I hate to say. Have you tried an external monitor? If the display is stable on an external then the problem has to be the screen panel itself of a connection to it.
