I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Friends from Lenovo,I write you because, on August 12th, 2016, trying to install the new Windows 10 Anniversary Update, I had to do a reboot of my notebook and in the process, I lost most of the programs and drivers that use my notebook to work properly. I already installed most of the drivers I lost that day, but I still haven`t found and install the correct driver for the hotkeys of my notebook. So far, I have tried with the files r09vu09w and 8jvu43ww, but none of that files is the correct one for my ThinkPad X220 notebook, which I bought in the year 2012. Therefore, I need to ask you if you could tell me how can I get, download the CORRECT hotkey file for my notebook, so I could download it and install it on my Lenovo notebook. Friends from Lenovo, could you please tell me how can I get the correct hotkey file for my notebook Lenovo ThinkPad X220, in order to download it and install it on my notebook?THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR HELP!!!! Yours truly,Cristián Palau

Hello, i acquired recently a x220. The thing is, it will only turn on if you remove the battery and the CMOS battery, and, after plugging the AC adapter it will turn on automatically. Other thing is, after you turn on, you can plug the battery back and remove the AC adapter, it will use the battery normally. Someone had this issue? i need some advices.

A:Lenovo x220 won't turn on

I don't know, but how fresh is the CMOS battery? If unsure I think I'd try replacing it with a new one first.

I have an older x220 thinkpad; when running backup it gave me an error message that there was not enough room (but there was plenty of room on the external drive!).  I made the mistake of deleting the backups from the external drive manually.  Now, it hangs up.  I thought perhaps deleting the backups showing in the system would force it to start over with a brand new backup instead of looking for the old ones; however when I try to delete the backups from the list in lenovo backup, it also hangs up.  I would like to find a way to clear all of the history out of the backup system so that it will start over with a new image (and work, of course).  Any ideas?

Strange problem I'm having, my x220 wont recieve any updates from windows. Ive re-installed multiple times, tried many fixes and nothing has worked. Most recently I just reinstalled the whole laptop and first thing I ran was the lenovo system updater, it's stuck on installing windows 7 update module kb2459268 64 bit.. when you goto windows updates it just checks for updates forever. I bought this system used and I originally installed windows 7 and updated to windows 10 which worked, but windows 10 was unsupported and the computer had issues powering off and going to/waking up from sleep. Ever since then when I reinstalled windows 7 I have had this issue. I cant work with a pc that doesn't update... Any tips greatly appreciated. Brad

Hello, The fan in my lenovo X220 tablet stops working after awhile from turning the device on (after around 10 minutes). This causes the temperature of the processor to always be above 90 degree C (using TPFanControl V 0.61). The fan control software shows that the fan is turning at 4060 RPM, but there is absolutly no air coming out! I recently re-applied the thermal paste, and the problem (fan turning off) "might" have started after re-applying the thermal past - I did it in a local computer service shop. I tried to update the BIOS, but the battery does not work and the installation does not start (it gives me an error) because of that. I have been using my X220 for six years with no problems and I currently run windows 10. Please let me know if you have any idea on how to fix this issue.

A:Lenovo X220 Tablet Fan Turn Off after few minutes

There are only 2 parts involved - the fan and the motherboard.  If the fan bearing gets hot and seizes, it would spin at start-up to avoid the fan error message.  Fans are cheaper than motherboards, so if it were mine, I would try a new fan.

I have a 10 year old Lenovo X220 running Windows 10 Pro. I recently upgraded RAM from 4 to 16 Gig and replaced the original HD with a Samsung SSD. The SSD migration had no problems and I'm enjoying a much faster boot up and improved performance. The only problem is my external usb keyboard has stopped working, but not my external usb track ball. Before the SSD and memory upgrade I was able to plug the external usb keyboard into any usb port on the dock and it worked fine. I've tried plugging the usb keyboard into every usb port on the docking station when docked and on the laptop (undocked) and none of them work with the keyboard. All of the X220 usb ports can read and write to usb memory sticks. I've tested this same usb keyboard on my desktop and it works fine.  Reading some other X220 forums, I've used the Windows Device Manager to delete the Standard PS/2 Keyboard from the Keyboard folder, and I've deleted and reinstalled all of the USB Hubs and Controllers in the Unversal Serial Bus controllers folder.  I love this laptop but it's really annoying that I can't dock it and use a full size keyboard.  I have no idea why the memory upgrade of SSD would have affected ONLY an external usb Keyboard. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Joe

I recently purchased a Lenovo X220 and I am attempting to setup a dual monitor with it and a Samsung Syncmaster BX2331 monitor. When I change the setting to extended desktop on the secondary monitor the laptop monitor starts having issues. The useable space becomes bigger than the actual screen so I can scroll up and down while on the desktop. It will also scroll left and right and the desktop icons will move over onto the secondary monitor. The laptop has a resolution of 1366x768 and the monitor is 1920x1080. I am trying to explain the issue the best I can but it's a little hard to explain.

A:Dual monitor issue Lenovo x220

I know what you mean, it happened in XP when you set the screen resolution larger than what the screen was capable of. What cable are you using the connection to your secondary monitor? On the secondary monitor, press the auto calibrate button, or it's equivalent, and then unplug the VGA/HDMI cable and plug it back in see if that fixes your problem. it's also worth trying going into the settings and checking the button that says "hides modes not supported by this monitor" If you don't know where that is, right click on the desktop and click "screen resolution" then click advanced and at the bottom of that pop up you should see that check box. Those are the first things to check.

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X220 running Windows 7, and I've had it for about two years now. It worked fine up until this morning and now immediately turns off even if it is tilts slightly. When I say it turns off immediately, I mean it's like the battery has been taken out. Sometimes static will appear momentarily on screen before it turns off, and other times it won't turn off, but the entire screen just stays frozen. Also, now when I try to access websites like Facebook or Google which would normally be okay, I get a message saying that the website's security certificate is not trusted. I feel like doing a system restore would help, but since I got the laptop from school I don't have administrator privileges and cannot do so.

Below are my laptop's specs. Honestly I have no idea whether this is a hardware or software problem. If anyone has any idea what might be wrong or knows of any way to fix this, your help is much appreciated.

Hi and welcome, heyArhumGlad to see ThnkPad and x220 lover 1. x220 supports up to 2x8 GB RAM installed. With BIOS up to v.1.28 it supports 1333 Mhz memory by default (by design) and memory 1600 Mhz w/o issues. With 1866 Mhz memory some issues might appear, depending on the memory stick manufacturer, model, parametersStarting with BIOS v.1.29 using not designed memory type is locked.2. x220 mSATA slot supports SATA II interface. There are no SATA III lines of laptop chipset in that interface. So, use any mSATA drive, on your choice - capacity, budget, vendor..., not in the m.2 formfactor (!). Intel, Plextor, Crucial, Corsair, Samsung, Kingston... Not NoName and OCZ. Of course, most mSATA III drives are back compatible with mSATA II slots. The choosing between mSATA + HDD and regular 2.5" SSD drives depends on the storage capacity you need, laptop usage profile.3. I don't know about palmrest cracking issue despite the fact I contacted with hundreds of the x220 owners, since the beginning of 2011. I'm sure there might be a bit trouble with parts fixing under palmrest, their routine. There was the single case I remember - the user has breaked it himself due to the impact.

Hi, I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X220 and my C drive (windows drive) corrupted yesterday. I cannot get to Lenovo Recovery to restore my C drive because the C drive was totally corrupted. I use linux bootable usb to try to access my hard drive, the C drive was corrupted, no data can be read, but the Recovery Partition (Q:\) was fine. I try to re-install my Thinkpad using the same OS (Windows 7 Pro-64 Bit) using the product key inside the battery slot to see if my hard drive fails or not, but the Windows that I reinstalled was fine until now. The Recovery Partition was still there, with different Letter path (changed to D:\) and whatever inside the recovery partition was hidden but the partition was 10GB used, so I think what inside the partition was hidden. My question is:1. Can I use my Recovery Partition again to factory reset my Thinkpad?2. Can I use the Recovery Partition with the Lenovo Rescue & Recovery apps that I download from Lenovo Website? Thank you, I still need My Thinkpad X220 eventhough I already have newer Lenovo laptop. Hello to everybody,Recently I have bought a Lenovo Thinkpad X220 and I want to increase the memory, (by default is 4 GB) to 8GB or 16 GB. if it is possible. My question is if this laptop support without any problems or errors 16GB RAM of memory, because officially it is only 8GB.RAM, but I have seen on internet, people with 16GB Ram in this laptop, Are there any problem with this? If so, upgrade to 10GB or 12GB RAM would be posible instead? Also I want to increase the capacity in my laptop (by default is 320 GB.HDD), and I want to put a 500 GB SSD Disc, and if is possible to maintain both the Hard Disc anda SSD Disc, it would be possible to put SSD Disc into the PCI Express slot and mantain the Hard Disc at the same time. Or the only possibility is to replace the Hard Disc for a SSD Disc?Thank you very much,Regards.

Hi everyone, first post here!
My laptop is currently causing me some aggravation regarding fast startup. It is a Lenovo Thinkpad X220 I have upgraded to Windows 8 and then 8.1 and an SSD and up to now has been performing flawlessly.
Recently, with the fast startup option enabled, the computer has been shutting itself off completely after the startup animation and requires the power button pressing again before it will boot up, in 'normal startup' speed.
I have tried disabling and re enabling fast startup, using the 'powercfg -h off' and 'powercfg -h on' commands to recreate the hiberfil.sys file and that's about all I can think of. It still behaves the same, turning itself off completely immediately after the startup animation.
Anyone got any ideas to resolve this?

A:Fast startup causing problems - Lenovo Thinkpad X220

Fast startup has worked a couple of times in the meantime - I swapped the wireless card yesterday and reinstalled some drivers to resolve some unrelated issues and it started working again. Yay! I thought - but after the first couple of goes it started doing the same thing again and shutting off after the animation!

Since you have to hunt around different Lenovo sites (and other sites) to find out about these softwares, I decided to make a post to get feedback from actual Yoga owners on how these programs interact, what they do, which ones are prerequisite, and which ones are unnecessary. Please don't take this as a blanket answer. This is just what I have found. It might be right - it might be wrong. I'm looking for others to post their experiences as well. Lenovo System Interface Foundation Driver - Necessary prerequisite (missing driver in device manager without it). It allows the Lenovo Utility and Lenovo Companion to work. Lenovo Yoga Mode Control - Necessary if you want to use your yoga to seemlessly change between all the different modes (laptop, tablet, tent, stand). This software is responsible for autorotating and putting Windows into tablet mode. Lenovo Utility - Recommended(?) This one I'm not too sure on. I remember that I was missing some function that I wanted but I can't remember what it was now. Maybe battery cycle count and health? Lenovo Companion - I don't have this one installed and don't think it's necessary but would like someone else to shed some light here.

Hi guys, I am looking for a bit of advice. I just purchased a used Lenovo x220 i5, 8GB RAM, 300GB HDD, with BIOS 1.25. And most likely getting another X220 unit as a standby unit. I am thinking of upgrading the x220 in this order:1) RAM-16GB RAM (1866 Mhz , e.g. Kingston HyperX Impact Black Series - DDR3L - 16 Gt : 2 x 8 Gt - SO-DIMM 204-pin - 1866 MHz PC3L-14900 - CL11 - 1.35 / 1.5 V - non-ECC)2) System & Storage (mSATA 240 GB+  orginal HDD vs  SSD 500GB)3) Display-IPS display My first thoughts are in 2) System & Storage (mSATA 240 GB+  original HDD vs  SSD 500GB)Option A) install a 2 Samsung 850 EVO SSD 250 GB mSATA and keep the old HDD for data storage.Possible concern: will lower speed of mSATA drive with SATA II speed become a bottleneck in the near future?Possible upside: while I have a lot of small files to be stored, would the system perform better if the data storage is physically separated from system files on another driveOption B) replace the HDD with Samsung 850 EVO SSD 500 GB and possibly later add a mSATA for data storage. Hereby take advantage of full SATAIII speed.Possible concern: will the data consisting of lots of small files slow down the laptop while having the system files on the same physical drive? And all on 1 single partition as recommended for SSD?s.The difference in price between option A and B is not significant so that is not an issue for me. My BIOS has been fixed to get rid of whitelists and I see that this card is wave 2 802.11ac so its 2T2R making it markedly better than the Centrino N1000 I have installed at present. The AC-8265 seems to be the right size, but its pins are keyed in a different way than the AC-7260 etc

I recently brought a used x220 on ebay. Been using it for about 2 weeks so far so good. The laptop does have some issues. I would like to know how do I replace the top lid of an x220? I've ready seen videos on how to replace the screen so I kinda got the hang of replacing the bezel. I just want to know how do I replace the top panel because top right side of the lid is a bit weak. Thanks.

A:How do I replace the lid of an x220

Good day.

Pretty much all of the steps are outlined in the HMM: https://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/0a60739_04.pdf

Essentially, you'll need to remove the LCD, pull the hinge screws, carefully lift the antennae tapes, and then reinstall all the parts into the replacement lid. Section 2010 is a good starting point.

Regards.

Hi!So my monitor was fine all these times and all of a sudden it started to flicker. The only thing I can remember is the battery died so this sudden symptom kind of boggles me.  Please bear with me as I try to explain the problem. So the monitor blinks on and off and I can see what is on the screen before it turns off then back on again. It does the same thing in BIOS, Windows (hd1) and RHEL (hd2). I see the keyboard power led green link blink randomly on and off, the caps lock light won't turn on when I push it and also if I try to logon or type, there is a delayed response and sometimes it doesn't recognize what I pushed whether in terminal or BIOS. I tried these things to try and narrow down the problem: 1. I reseated the lcd video connector.2. I reseted the keyboard.3. I tried another lenovo keyboard.4. With the lcd plugged in still, and I try to attach and external monitor on vga/DP, the external would never show anything. You can see it recognized the signal but before it showed anything it would go to sleep. The laptop lcd would not show anything with an external plugged.5. I removed the laptop lcd and plugged in an external monitor. It doesn't flicker anymore in bios, but there is a delay in what I type on the lenovo keyboard and sometimes it doesn't recognize key presses. When I load windows the external montior goes to sleep and the keyboard power led blinks on and off and I can hear the fan turn on and off constantly. When I load RHEL, it ... Read more

Is it possible to upgade cpu on x220 to i7 3517u, Does bios support this cpu?

Solved!

Go to Solution.

A:x220 cpu upgrade

The CPU is soldered into the mainboard, a swap is not possible, you'll need to swap the entire motherboard.

The most powerful CPU available is the Core i7-2640M IIRC.

Hello all, my first post here, a new proud owner of X220. I beefed it up a bit by adding an mSata SSD 120GB for programs and a 750GB hard drive and 4GB of memory to total 8GB, running windows 7 64bit. I downloaded the lenovo program for driver detection tc for X220, including bios and everything went fine and resulted in higher performance overall. Also using the detection program by Lenovo it installed a bunch of other Lenovo programs like Vantage password, Community, ultranav utility etc...are those necessary or can i uninstall some? What I was wondering is if there is some tweaking options for X220 for its own software, not for windows. thanks for any tips on my "new" used pc

I am aware of 2 main types of memory. SODIMM with 4 chips a side and 8 chips on a side. My old T500 is more sensitive to memory and it cannot use 4 chip per side DDR3 memory. My X220 is more recent but I stick to 8 chip memory mainly as if I upgrade I can toss the memory down the food chain. So can the X220 use 4 chip memory?

I have been questioining the Sandy Bridge QM67 chipset with my X220 out of concern that I have a possible problen with the machine. The QM67 has 2 SATA III ports and 4 SATA II ports. The hard disk bay has one of the SATA III ports which is where I installed a SSD to improve performane.  The SDXC card reader is SATA connected but I am not sure which port on the QM67 it is wired up to? The Wi-Fi card I suspect is PCI Express 2.0 x1 connected so its not affected? The other slot is mSATA which I discovered a SSD option but with slower SATA II speed. Now noticed there is a bay for a SIM card, so is the WAN card PCI Express connected?

What's the problem exactly? What do you want to perform?

Looks OK to me.  That's what I see on my ThinkPads.

What about that concerns you?  I admit not being well-versed in this, but if one of the sleep states is supported, what's the problem?
