Thumb File 2

Q: Thumb File 2

Can I copy a thumb file or a preview and save to look at. Why? I can not open the file without losing the picture, or it not opening.

Preferred Solution: Thumb File 2

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Thumb File 2

Where is this image? If its on screen you can always press the print scr key and then open Window Paint, paste and crop it there and save it.

I have a problem I can see the preview of a photo that someone sent me but when I open it up, the image is either half way gone or does not appear at all.I have used Microsoft to open it, photoshop and Ulead and none of them work, can you help.

A:Thumb file preview

In either case (if you have attachments or the images were uploaded to a server so you could download them) I think you are going to have to have them sent again as it appears the image was corrupted in transit.
Was it indeed sent via email? As an attachment or as a download accessed from the email?
If being sent as an attachment, have the person put it in a zip file to protect it a little better, or just send it again and see if its ok then. If downloaded, try downloading it again and if its still truncated, have the person try sending it again also.
Thumbnail are just little snapshots of the original an are only accurate at the time they were made so any corruption or damage that occurs to the original after the thumb was made will not be reflected in the thumbnail.

I moving files around and my attempt to burn my picture files to the "E" drive just by moving them there. I got the warning message something about the importance of the Thumb.db file containing info that could cause problems with my system. So after copying the folders to the "E" drive I realized that wasnt going to burn them to the CD. I deleted the files in the "E" Drive and now when I go back to my pictures most of them will not display the image. I looked through other sites and heard similar problems, but most were trying to figure out how to get rid of the Thumbs.db file. To my undersatnding windows xp automatically reproduces this file after you delete it. Well that doesnt seem to me happening for my machine (Dell Demension 2400) Pentium 4. I think I have about 50 folders and aprox 20 of them still show pictures and have the Thumb.db file. As I went through each folder that didnt display pictures I deleted the thumbs.db file. Closed explore and reopened and the pictures still could not be shown. Any help here would be much appreciated. Thanks, C Reynolds

A:Thumb.db file does not return

Have you tried refreshing the folder? Right click in the folder and then click 'Refresh' in the context menu.

My thumb drive has failed. Most info on it was not particularly important. Unfortunately there was a word file that I need for work. I opened that file on my computer this week, but didn't save it there. Is there some directory on my computer's (Win XP) hard drive that would still have a copy somewhere.

I know it's a longshot, but I'm hoping, rather than working just from the thumb, that Windows would put it somewhere on the HD that I might be able to find it still lurking.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks, i figured my original post is dead so i started a new one.

A:Screenshot help in getting an ISO file from disk onto thumb drive

So the ISO file is on a CD or DVD disc and you want to copy it to a USB flash drive, right?

Start My Computer.
Right click on the optical drive and select Explore.
Start another My Computer.
Right click on the flash drive and select Explore.

Line up the windows so you can drag the ISO from the optical drive to the flash drive to copy it there.

I am trying to free up space on my 120GB SSD. I looked into reducing the page-file and/or moving it to my data HDD (500GB & 750GB). I have 16GB of ram, so the page-file will rarely if ever be used. I would like to have it completely off of my SSD to help with longevity of the drive. I like to have my HDDs spin down when not in use, so it might be a pain waiting for the drive to spin up when the PF actually gets used.

I thought, why not use one of the 8 GB USB2 thumb drives I have laying around for the page file? I searched and some said they are slow, but they will probably not be used much anyway, and they would be faster than waiting for the HDD to spin up.

Good idea or not?

EDIT: How would a USB3 Thumb drive fair?

A:Using 8GB USB2 thumb drive for page file

Try a 3.0 thumb as 'ReadyBoost' and do some random testing with it. With 16GB of RAM your pagefile probably won't be touched.

Quite often when copying an EXE file to thumb drive I get this alert

What does it mean. I have not had any install problems so far.

Thank you

A:Lost EXE file properties while copying to a thumb drive

Every file has properties attached to it. Basically , it's information about the file, like this:

In the case of the EXE file above, there isn't much to worry about if they are lost when they are copied. The only time that properties really cause a problem is when you lose the information from photographs and documents. The information may be used by other programs to load information, or to show information about the file.

Basically, Windows is just telling you that the properties will not be copied with the file, and it's checking to see if it's OK with you if they get lost in the copy. It isn't usually a cause for concern.

Hi ,

I am using WIN 7, PRO, SP1
I have a couple of questions about the operation of the Windows ?System Restore Point? function.
1. Can the ?System Restore Point? created file be written or exported to external storage --- burn to CD, DVD or write to thumb drive?. Writing a ?recovery? file to your hard disk C:\ partition seems to defeat the possibility of ?recovery? when the computer will not boot or the C:\ drive cannot be accessed.
2. Assuming the System Restore Point file can be placed on external storage, are there program(s) that can be used to boot a non-functioning computer and read and replace the System Restore Point from the CD/DVD or thumb drive? You could think it as a ? System Restore Point Emergency Boot Disk?

Hi,My USB thumb drive seem to have been infected by a Trojan. All the file folders inside the said thumb drive have become short cuts and the file sizes have been all reduced to 1 or 2 kb. The exact error message which I had received when I tried to double click on the short cut is as follows: "Windows cannot find 'G:\RECYCLER\0xFFD12566.exe'. Make sure you type the name correctly, and then try again." However, the overall properties of the said thumbdrive showed that my files are all still inside the thumb drive but they were being hidden somewhere. I went to the folder options -> view -> and clicked on show all hidden files and unchecked the "hide empty drives", "hide extensions for known file types" and "hide protected operating system files", and I was able to see and access to all my documents. I then used 2 anti virus programs (1. Norton Anti Virus 2012 and 2. Spyware doctor with Anti Virus) to search for any viruses/trojans but to no avail. Both programs indicated that my computer (inclusive of the USB drive) are free from any threats. As such, I would like to enquire:1. Is my USB drive infected by any virus/trojans? 2. If yes, can I simply extract my documents/pictures from all the hidden folders, transferred them to a new drive and continue working with them? Will my new drive be infected as well?3. Is there any way to solve the problem without formatting my thumb drive? The documents are of utmost imp... Read more

A:I keep having Thumb.db's appear

Hello and Welcome. Please subscribe to this thread to get immediate notification of replies as soon as they are posted.

Thumbs.db is not something to worry about. It's a hidden file generated by the Windows operating system. Since it is "hidden," not everyone sees it (even though it exists) unless they have chose to "Show hidden files." It is a database file containing the small images displayed when you view a folder in "thumbnail" view (as opposed to tile, icon, list, or detail view).

If you want to turn OFF this feature, here's how:

1. Open up the Control Panel
2. Select Folder Options
3. Click the View tab (see picture below)
4. Check "Do not cache thumbnails"
5. Click the OK button

Please re-install AVG onto your machine. In this day & age, surfing the internet without the protection of an antivirus program is like begging for a bullet.

Please read this post completely before begining the fix. If there's anything that you do not understand, kindly ask your questions before proceeding. When you eject the USB flash drive do you click the Safely Remove Icon before pulling it out? If you don't, it will have a hard time connecting next time you put it in.
If the USB Flash Drive is not recognized when you put it in, go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and press enter. In the Device Manager are there any devices with a Yellow Flag or under Universal Serial Bus Controllers is there an Unknown Device? If so, right click it and Uninstall it, then remove the Flash Drive and restart your computer. Put the Flash drive into a different USB port. If you don't want to restart, put the USB into a different USB port and in the Device Manager, Right click Any device and choose Scan For Hardware Changes. You should get New Hardware Found.

HELP!!! I just bought a new PNY 8gb thumb drive for my Dell E6400 laptop running XP. It worked great for the first few tries. Today, every time I plug it in the USB port I keep getting "Cannot find HOnEq.Exe"
I don't know why it's not auto-playing, and allowing me to read the files I put on the thumb drive earlier. But, I can go to My Computer, and right click on the thumbdrive to view the contents. But why did it stop automatically recognize the thumbdrive and why is that warning constantly popping up. There is no virus..I scanned that. All devices appear to be working. Should I return the thumb drive and get a different brand/model? Or is there a simple fix? Also, I checked to update the driver but it said I already had the latest driver. Did something get corrupted? HELP!!!

A:PNY 8gb Thumb Drive

The most likely situation is that the thumb drive got a virus which was later removed by your antivirus or someone else's. In that case there will still be a file (probably a hidden and system file) called "Autorun.inf". If you delete that file the drive will be back to normal.

In case you don't know, to show hidden and system files go to tools>Folder options>view, check show hidden files and folders and uncheck hide protected Opperating system files.

Somehow only one of my thumb drives has been assigned to a port/hub which is usb 1.1. I would like to get it unassigned from port 1/hub 6 and let it find an USB 2.0 port/hub.

There are no warnings in device manager and the thumb drive always works, just slower than before.

I have re-formatted the drive, uninstalled the drive but each time Win7 finds it, it reassigns it to port1/hub 6. I have even uninstalled the hub.

I do have a drive letter assigned to thumb drive. Nothing else uses that drive letter.

I repeat that other thumbs behave properly. (IE use usb 2 ).

The thing that really confuses me is that the autorun disk still exists and functions up to the point where it loads where it flashes an error message because windows cannot access the drive. Does anyone know what the issue is here? what i could have done to cause this or how can i fix it? can i fix it at all? Any help would be great because i really need the thumb drive. Thanks a lot.

A:Corrupt Thumb Drive or something

Two drives behaving this way would make me look at the PC or Windows.

Try the drives on another PC, do they work properly?

My lovely wife bought two Ativa 2gb usb drives. When she plugged one into her Windows Vista computer, it couldn't find a driver. I've tried the usual routes and come up with nothing. Ativa tech support says the drive should be Vista compatible (!!).

Thanks for any tips. - Tony

I purchased a Lexar 2g 360. It says that it is compatible with vista 64 but when i put it in my laptop it tells me that creedo does not support 64 and it wont let me use the thumb drive. I can find no way to reformat the thumb drive or change anything on it. I only wanted this thumb drive for ready boost but i cannot get it to do anything. Ive looked for drivers/software, checked and everything says nothing is needed and that it works with any vista.

How can I make it where i can use this as a regular drive and remove creedo from the drive?

A:Problems with thumb drive

You're best starting point might be at the Lexar support site. I see they have online chat and fourms. See if you can get an answer from their tech people. Probably good to post your question in their forum as well as may find others easier that way who share same problem

Just bought an 8GB USB flash drive primarily to load music for my car. Is it necessary to format it (FAT32 or other), or can I just drag and drop folders and songs?
Also, if I decide to add data files (Excel spreads, Word dox, etc.), do I need to partition it somehow so that my car stereo does not get confused? If so, how?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
