W540 battery replacement and Battery Health Mode

Q: W540 battery replacement and Battery Health Mode

My W540 is asking me to consider replacing the battery. The original battery is a 57++, 9 cells, 11.1V, 8.96Ah 100Wh, Li-ion00 battery. Searched on ebay, cannot find an exactly the same one. The closest match one is this: Some 9 cells 57++ is 10.8V, 9.21Ah and Li-ion 20 ----- does this one is better than mine original because of its lower V?----- do you have a reliable seller from ebay or amazon to recommend ? From the Battery Maintenance window I found there is a Battery Health Mode feature somewhere. But where I can find it??

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a W540 with Windows 7. Most of time (99%) I am using the power supply. I want to make my battery last longer. In the Power Manager tool, I click the Battery Maintenance ... button and get a dialog which tells me there is a Battery Health Mode I can use to increase the battery lifespan (the dialog's picture is attahed).  My issue is I cannot find where that Battery Health Mode is? Anybody can help me about this? In my case, 99% on power supply, should I take the battery off and store it somewhere? But I would like to keep it installed because it can save my work when the power get off suddenly sometimes. Thanks,

My original 9 cell Lenovo battery pack dropped from 3 hrs to 2 hrs capacity after a couple of years. So when it stopped working, "battery not detected", I thought it was forced into retirement due to low capacity. In fact I opened the pack and all cells were unexpectedly within millivolts and were good to at least 2 Ah. I get an aftermarket 9 cell pack, and it arrives with zero volts. eBay seller quickly sends me another. But the W540 cannot detect it. I order two 6 cell packs from two other vendors. None are detected by the W540.So it strikes me maybe there is something wrong with the connector, and not that the handshakes had failed by these aftermarket manufacturers. Lo and behold, the two positive pins on the laptop were bent, and so was the plastic tongue. It turns out that you can gently force in the battery and hear the double click of the lock, and due to misalignment, normal insertion would bend the pins. No connection will be established if the male pins on the laptop are bent. After straightening them, which breaks the plastic tongue guide, I was able to insert the battery and the battery is now recognized. So if you get a "battery not detected" error, before suspecting the cells or the pack, you may want to check the male connector pins on the laptop and make sure they are all straight. Also check the female connector on the pack as that can be bent, or the female connector pushed into the pack. I believe the alignment of the battery connector is a bit off with res... Read more

In short (see much more detail below), my problem is that with everything set to maximum performance, my CPU throttles to 33% clock speed whenever I am running on battery. It never throttles up, no matter the load. This makes the computer incredibly slow when on battery, too slow to run my "workstation" software. What I'm looking to learn is:1. Can other people with a similar model check to see if this is also happening to them?2. Is there a true fix such that Speedstep actually works ? (not a workaround using throttlestop to control or something) I am considering buying 9 more of these models (it is great on AC), but the battery performance is atrocious and the support I have gotten so far has been poor as well. I've found many posts about W520s having this problem, but no W540s. Is this a common problem? I am incredibly motivated to fix this, so if anyone has any ideas on what to test, I'll reply quickly! Details: My computer:W540Windows 7 ProI7-4700MQNvidia Quadro K2100M I have set everything to maximum performance (cooling, CPU) in the power settings (both windows and power manager). I initially noticed the problem using the "resource manager" and looking at the clock speed. On AC power I see the "maximum frequency" set to ~118% constantly, sometimes as high as 123%. As soon as I unplug the computer the maximum frequency goes to 33% and stays there. I can run p95 and while the CPU % used goes up, the frequency stays the same. T... Read more

I have done some searching online and through this forum, but can't figure out my issue. I have a Thinkpad w540. it has worked fine for the last 3 years. Recently when traveling for vacation, I found that my charger would not charge my battery for more than 5min. It was a new battery, so I thought perhaps it was faulty or my charging cable got damaged on the flight. I found that with the battery out of the laptop, the charger keeps my laptop working just fine. And if my computer is off, I can take the battery out and put it back in, and it will charge to 100% just fine. And then I can use the battery without the charger until it is needing to be charged again. But if I have the battery and charger active, it will only be in the charging state for a few minutes upon the laptop loading, before it doesn't recognize the charger. I chalked this up to a potentially faulty new battery. But now I am having an identical issue with my original battery that I have had since I got my laptop. Same situation in all cases. This battery hasn't had any issues before, the only reason I got a new battery is so that I could use my laptop on longer flights by switching batteries. Any ideas from anyone? I double checked BIOS, etc.. was all up-to-date. And I can't recall a recent update that might affect this.

I think with batteries the big thing is Watt/Hours. (Don't quote me on that tho)
You might be better off using the same battery as the one you had before, simply for the sake of reliability.
It also will depend on what you use this laptop for.

I can't start my ThinkPad W540 without connecting to AC power (not always, but most of the time). When I press power bottom nothing happens even the battery is fully charged. As soon as I plug the laptop on to AC power, the power bottom works, and I can unplug the AC power immediately after it starts up. I believe this problem started after upgrading from windows 8.1 to windows 10, however, could it be a hardware issue?

What's the best way to prolong the battery's life?  Keep it plugged in or allow it to discharge and recharge almost daily?  Thanks for your help.Ron

A:Battery Health

maintaining the battery at 70 to 80% charge whilst plugged in is the best, if you want to store the battery then 40% charge is the best. Don't do small top up charging, as this will wreck the battery, do a complete discharge and recharge every 3 months, if you don't use the battery regularly.

Depending on how old that laptop is and if it still has its original battery, it's normal for a certain amount of battery life to be gone from it.
The only way to know how much life is left in it is to fully charge it and then disconnect the power adapter and then run on battery power only and then time it.

Hi

I have a Satellite U940 on Windows 8.1.

My question is whether there is any relationship between battery wear and the health of the laptop on toshiba's PC health monitor.

At the moment my battery wear is at 50% of full capcacity according to BatteryBar
however on the health monitor it says that my battery health is good (full green).

I can only get about 1.5 to 2 hours of life out of my laptop and am just asking for help and information on whether I should buy a new battery or is there something wrong with my battery readings.

Thanks for reading this.

A:PC Health Monitor and Battery wear on Satellite U940

> At the moment my battery wear is at 50% of full capcacity according to BatteryBar
however on the health monitor it says that my battery health is good (full green).

The battery health shows you the battery health status and not the battery charging status.

> I can only get about 1.5 to 2 hours of life out of my laptop
The battery working time depends on notebook usage. What does this mean?
Well, running heavy performance software (games, video editing software, etc?), using bright display brightness or playing DVD movie would discharge the battery quickly.

1.5 - 2h of battery working time is not bad. But of course; sooner or later every battery needs to be replaced. It?s just a matter of time.

Hi folks, It has been about 10-11 months since I bought my X1 Carbon 3rd gen. (2015), with 512GB SSD. It comes with ThinkPlus warranty, which says battery is also covered for 3 years.A month back, my battery started getting discharged very quickly when not on AC power. I checked the the Lenovo app, which says: "The battery is in poor condition"."The battery can only store 52.9% of its original full charge capacity". Its "Design Capacity" is 50.22Wh, but now its Full Charge capacity is about 26-27Wh! Cycle count is 288. I've never used any other AC adapter, except the original that came with it.Questions:1. Is it covered under warranty? This degradation is not normal and I believe there's a replacement I can do. 2. Warranty page for my serial number on Lenovo's site lists 3 warranties:i. 3 year limited warrantyii. 3 year ThinkPlus warranty and "The battery is also covered for 3 years". iii. "The battery included within this product is entitled to a 1 year on-site warranty. Please note that this may differ from the warranty of the base product itself." So, is my battery covered for 3 years OR 1 year?

Hi Guys.

I have always had fairly good battery life out of my 18 month old laptop, but suddenly it is saying "0%, Plugged In, Not Charging".

The second I unplug the power cord it switches off (needs to completely restart when plugged back in). I have used the Toshiba PC Health software and it says my battery has good health.

I have ordered a new charger online (Waiting on it to arrive). But I suspect it is more of a software issue - I just don't know WHAT? Can anyone help out? My computer took it upon itself to update to Windows 10 this week, but this was happening prior to that, but now I am dumbfounded on where to even find anything on this dumb system and my head is going to explode.

Replacing the battery is not an option due to funds - i'll deal with that if I have to down the track.

So anyway, in the meantime can someone please recommend something I can do? I have read through the forum and through google but the sudden upgrade to windows 10 has made it really difficult (and used all my mobile data, making it an expensive, unwanted upgrade!)

After my friend's laptop wouldn't run on battery power OR charge the battery I tried many "fixes."

Shockingly none worked that I found.

Only one thing worked for me to my surprise.

A last ditch effort was to open up the laptop (sony pcg-81114L) and disconnect the cmos battery for a few minutes to reset the CMOS.

To my surprise, when powered on, the battery instantly showed it was charging AND when removing the power plug the battery POWERS the laptop now! (and I'd thought I was wasting my time.)

Worked with an off brand battery also.

Many times this has saved many computers that have odd "unsolvable" things wrong with them.

Surely someone else has done this also but I haven't seen it posted anywhere to my knowledge.

Thank GOD for bringing the idea to remembrance!

Hey, I really need help. I'm having problems with my laptop. It's a dell inspiron 7559 and was bought around January. Recently I have seen that the battery has no longer been as hot as it used to be when I first started using it. Along with the sleeve on the tip of the screen power adapter (below the part where the adapter lights up) has started to come off, exposing the wires. The battery has continually dropped down its percentage rate ever since I bought it, and it won't go back up. It is currently at 0% battery life and it says when you highlight over the battery icon ( plugged in, not charging). It also happens to show the BIO setup when I start the computer and shows that the batteries wattage and type cannot be determined. In the BIOS setup, the ac adapter type is unknown. The battery has not been through any harsh conditions along with the laptop. I have tried removing the battery, starting up the computer with the ac adapter (which is 130 watts), then adding the battery back, and ac adapter, then turning it on, but it had no effects. If I remove my ac adapter while my computer is on ,it instantly turns off. If someone can support me with this issue, it would be gladly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi guys, I need a replacement for my 250 G3 battery, the part number is 746641-001. HP doesn't stock them anymore and I'm only able to find them in Amazon. However, most of the replacement batteries are 14.4v or 14.8v and the original battery is 11.1v. My question is: can i use a 14.4v or 14.8v battery with my 250 G3??

Yes. Here is an eBay seller with original OEM (actual HP manufactured) batteries for a very reasonable price: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-Battery-OA04-OA03-For-HP-740715-001-746458-421-746641-001-751906-541... He obviously gets your question a lot since he says right in the text that the laptop commonly uses either 11.1v or a 14.4/14.8v battery.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

I have a HP 15AC-120TX  Notebook PC, and I need to replace its battery. But I am not sure what kind of battery should I buy and where can I find it. I want a battery which can last as more hour as possible, with more life cycle.

A:BATTERY REPLACEMENT

@poonampc The HP part number is   807957-001 That is for the 4-cell, 41-Whr, 2.8-Ah Li-ion battery it will last longer than the 3-cell, 31-Whr, 2.8-Ah Li-ion battery. Your manual here. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04653884 http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Genuine-HP-HS04-Battery-255-250-245-240-Series-HS03-HSTNN-LB6U-807957-00... REO

My notebook battery has packed up after only 14 months. I have been advised by the repair shop that a replacement cannot be found so I need a new laptop. Can anyone help if finding a replacement either from HP or a copy part? I am having no joy in finding one. Many thanks
