My W540 is asking me to consider replacing the battery. The original battery is a 57++, 9 cells, 11.1V, 8.96Ah 100Wh, Li-ion00 battery. Searched on ebay, cannot find an exactly the same one. The closest match one is this: Some 9 cells 57++ is 10.8V, 9.21Ah and Li-ion 20 ----- does this one is better than mine original because of its lower V?----- do you have a reliable seller from ebay or amazon to recommend ? I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

In short (see much more detail below), my problem is that with everything set to maximum performance, my CPU throttles to 33% clock speed whenever I am running on battery. It never throttles up, no matter the load. This makes the computer incredibly slow when on battery, too slow to run my "workstation" software. What I'm looking to learn is:1. Can other people with a similar model check to see if this is also happening to them?2. Is there a true fix such that Speedstep actually works ? (not a workaround using throttlestop to control or something) I am considering buying 9 more of these models (it is great on AC), but the battery performance is atrocious and the support I have gotten so far has been poor as well. I've found many posts about W520s having this problem, but no W540s. Is this a common problem? I am incredibly motivated to fix this, so if anyone has any ideas on what to test, I'll reply quickly! Details: My computer:W540Windows 7 ProI7-4700MQNvidia Quadro K2100M I have set everything to maximum performance (cooling, CPU) in the power settings (both windows and power manager). I initially noticed the problem using the "resource manager" and looking at the clock speed. On AC power I see the "maximum frequency" set to ~118% constantly, sometimes as high as 123%. As soon as I unplug the computer the maximum frequency goes to 33% and stays there. I can run p95 and while the CPU % used goes up, the frequency stays the same. T... Read more

I have to replace the battery on a toshiba L355-S7915 laptop. Which battery is better? The Toshiba battery or the B-5040H from battery-biz. anyone use battery biz?
Could you provide links?
I think with batteries the big thing is Watt/Hours. (Don't quote me on that tho)
You might be better off using the same battery as the one you had before, simply for the sake of reliability.
It also will depend on what you use this laptop for.
I have a w540 that's a 3 years old and recently the battery display that says the percentage or time left is blank, when I put the cursor over it, it tells me the battery isn't installed even though the laptop is running on battery power. I can't start my ThinkPad W540 without connecting to AC power (not always, but most of the time). When I press power bottom nothing happens even the battery is fully charged. As soon as I plug the laptop on to AC power, the power bottom works, and I can unplug the AC power immediately after it starts up. I believe this problem started after upgrading from windows 8.1 to windows 10, however, could it be a hardware issue?

What's the best way to prolong the battery's life? Keep it plugged in or allow it to discharge and recharge almost daily? Thanks for your help.Ron
maintaining the battery at 70 to 80% charge whilst plugged in is the best, if you want to store the battery then 40% charge is the best. Don't do small top up charging, as this will wreck the battery, do a complete discharge and recharge every 3 months, if you don't use the battery regularly.Read other 4 answers

I was wondering if it is better to keep your laptop always plugged in,
or to plug it in only when the battery is dead/almost dead.
Would your battery last longer if you pugged it in only when necessary or constantly?

After my friend's laptop wouldn't run on battery power OR charge the battery I tried many "fixes."
Shockingly none worked that I found.
Only one thing worked for me to my surprise.
A last ditch effort was to open up the laptop (sony pcg-81114L) and disconnect the cmos battery for a few minutes to reset the CMOS.
To my surprise, when powered on, the battery instantly showed it was charging AND when removing the power plug the battery POWERS the laptop now! (and I'd thought I was wasting my time.)
Worked with an off brand battery also.
Many times this has saved many computers that have odd "unsolvable" things wrong with them.
Surely someone else has done this also but I haven't seen it posted anywhere to my knowledge.
Thank GOD for bringing the idea to remembrance!
Do you have any information on how this fixes the battery problem? would be interested to know.

I have a Satellite U940 on Windows 8.1.
My question is whether there is any relationship between battery wear and the health of the laptop on toshiba's PC health monitor.
At the moment my battery wear is at 50% of full capcacity according to BatteryBar
however on the health monitor it says that my battery health is good (full green).
I can only get about 1.5 to 2 hours of life out of my laptop and am just asking for help and information on whether I should buy a new battery or is there something wrong with my battery readings.
Thanks for reading this.
> At the moment my battery wear is at 50% of full capcacity according to BatteryBar
however on the health monitor it says that my battery health is good (full green).
The battery health shows you the battery health status and not the battery charging status.
> I can only get about 1.5 to 2 hours of life out of my laptop
The battery working time depends on notebook usage. What does this mean?
Well, running heavy performance software (games, video editing software, etc?), using bright display brightness or playing DVD movie would discharge the battery quickly.
1.5 - 2h of battery working time is not bad. But of course; sooner or later every battery needs to be replaced. It?s just a matter of time.
I have always had fairly good battery life out of my 18 month old laptop, but suddenly it is saying "0%, Plugged In, Not Charging".
The second I unplug the power cord it switches off (needs to completely restart when plugged back in). I have used the Toshiba PC Health software and it says my battery has good health.
I have ordered a new charger online (Waiting on it to arrive). But I suspect it is more of a software issue - I just don't know WHAT? Can anyone help out? My computer took it upon itself to update to Windows 10 this week, but this was happening prior to that, but now I am dumbfounded on where to even find anything on this dumb system and my head is going to explode.
Replacing the battery is not an option due to funds - i'll deal with that if I have to down the track.
So anyway, in the meantime can someone please recommend something I can do? I have read through the forum and through google but the sudden upgrade to windows 10 has made it really difficult (and used all my mobile data, making it an expensive, unwanted upgrade!)
Hi folks, It has been about 10-11 months since I bought my X1 Carbon 3rd gen. (2015), with 512GB SSD. It comes with ThinkPlus warranty, which says battery is also covered for 3 years.A month back, my battery started getting discharged very quickly when not on AC power. I checked the the Lenovo app, which says: "The battery is in poor condition"."The battery can only store 52.9% of its original full charge capacity". Its "Design Capacity" is 50.22Wh, but now its Full Charge capacity is about 26-27Wh! Cycle count is 288. I've never used any other AC adapter, except the original that came with it.Questions:1. Is it covered under warranty? This degradation is not normal and I believe there's a replacement I can do. 2. Warranty page for my serial number on Lenovo's site lists 3 warranties:i. 3 year limited warrantyii. 3 year ThinkPlus warranty and "The battery is also covered for 3 years". iii. "The battery included within this product is entitled to a 1 year on-site warranty. Please note that this may differ from the warranty of the base product itself." So, is my battery covered for 3 years OR 1 year?Read other answers

My sister's computer battery was going bad, so she went and replaced it herself. It's the simple, flat battery, just pop it out, put the new one in. She also bought a new DVD drive, so she unplugged the old one and took it out. That's all she did. And made sure she didn't shock/fry the motherboard.
Now, when you turn it on, it never boots up. It will run and the monitor will display a screen that shows that it's on, but Windows never loads. I tried putting the old DVD drive back in, the old battery back in, but it's still not working. Any ideas what might be causing this? I really don't want to tear it all apart at this point.

Hi there ,
I need to buy a replacement battery for my HP laptop, it's completely dead. When I unplug the electricity it goes off in less than 4 minutes.
Been reading on the internet that it is better to stick to the original, although expensive better quality and therefore performance.
Been on the website of HP and this laptop model is too old, they don't have the part anymore.
Do any of you know which company's make good laptop replacement batteries ?
Preferably in Europe as the costs of shipment may be expensive ?
Thanks for any help on this

Hallo 930211 Thanks for joining the HP forum, I would recommend you to this website link: http://partsurfer.hp.com/ where you will need to type in your Product name/number or your serial number. When take what country you are from and press on search. It's should find a list of parts you can buy to this computer with a price also. ThanksRead other 4 answers
