HTTP trace for USB attached W10 mobile device to W10 workstation (using Windows Device Portal)

Q: HTTP trace for USB attached W10 mobile device to W10 workstation (using Windows Device Portal)

Hi,
We are using the Microsoft "Windows Device Portal" REST API to do mobile app side-loading.
Everything in the REST API is working for us except for the "uninstall app" which is a "http rest delete" call.
So, to troubleshoot, I thought I would use Microsoft "Message Analyzer" to see if we could see the http traffic coming to and from the workstation to the mobile device over the USB.
I didn't want to install the Fiddler .net library and it looks like if you are on W10, then you can use the Microsoft-Windows-WinINet-Capture provider.
My steps:
0. Start "Microsoft Message Analyzer" in admin mode
1. click "New Session"
2. click "LiveTrace" button
3. Add providers:
a. Microsoft-Windows-WinINet
b. Microsoft-Windows-WinINet-Capture
4. put *IPAddr == 127.0.0.1 as a filter
5. click Start button
At the top, I get an error icon saying "Modules Loaded Errors or warnings were found when loading modules."
When I look at the log, these are the errors:

Preferred Solution: HTTP trace for USB attached W10 mobile device to W10 workstation (using Windows Device Portal)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

We have some symbol windows mobile-based handheld devices that we use in our business.  We connect these devices to our computers to copy files to.  This all worked fine until recently the devices come up as failed.
It appears in device manager with a yellow exclamation point.
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged.  (Code 19)
I've tried all the solutions I can find on the web and none of them work.
Including:
Uninstall the device in device manager and scan for changes.  It downloads the driver from windows-update and returns to code 19.
Tried hardware troubleshooter which basically seems to automate the process of uninstalling and scanning.
I've tried removing windows media player 12 feature and adding it back.
I've tried deleting USB controllers from Device Manager and rebooting, it re-detects them all and still gets code 19 on the device.
I've tried deleting upper and lower filter values in the registry which I found out later is mainly for CD/DVD devices, that didn't fix anything.
I've tried removing and re-installing Windows Mobile Device Center and driver pack and that did not fix it either.
Additionally Canon Powershot camera gives us similar results.  MTP USB Device failed.
This is so far happening on 3 of our workstations that we know of.

Hi,

Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet forums.

Do you have Kaspersky installed? Kaspersky Filter driver caused that any USB device could not connect.

It is suggested to have a look at the following registry. Make a backup of it and remove the Upperfilters setting:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{EEC5AD98-8080-425F-922A-DABF3DE3F69A}

“Upperfilters” = klfltdrv

If the issue persists, please find a working machine and compare the registry settings.

So here?s a stressful situation.
I?ve been having this issue with both iOS and Android, where sometimes when I upload a photo to an image service or social media (Instagram, Ello, Facebook, etc.) The photo appears to be uploaded completely normally, but after I come back to it, say 10 minutes later, there is a visible distortion or glitching on the picture, as if the data stream was interrupted or intercepted and whoever was doing the interception didn?t properly reconfigure the data upon exit so the picture ended up having a visual artifact or glitch upon it. I?m not sure what this is, or why it?s happening, but it?s even happened on my digital camera sometimes, (after transferring the DCIM files to my pc, and then cellphone of course.) They appear normal on PC, normal on the phone, but when they are uploaded, they are either IMMEDIATELY glitched near the bottom half or top half of the screen, or after a certain amount of time, it just shows up. I would love it if anyone had any experience with this or knew what the issue was, because it isn?t as consistent as a ?connector cable? error or any of that, it?s more random and only happened on a photo or two. I would attach a picture, but upon noticing this happen again I immediately uninstalled and deactivated those accounts for fear someone may have been snooping in or perhaps intercepting my data, ( causing concerns towards banking, emails, etc. )

In the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, Device Portal now offers several new tools from across Windows to help you location test your UWP, explore Mixed Reality, build new hardware peripherals and test your apps new installation pipeline. It?s a little bit of goodness for everyone, and we?re excited to share these with you.

If you?re not familiar with Device Portal, you can check out the blog posts below to see what other tools you can find in Device Portal, or look at the new docs.microsoft.com to learn how to enable it.

And as always, all of these tools are backed by a REST API, so that you can use it from a scripting or client application environment using the Device Portal Wrapper.

Location Based Testing
Most of us don?t have the travel budgets to test our apps across the world ? but pretending to travel is almost as good! The Location tool in Device Portal lets you easily change the location that Windows reports to apps. By tapping the ?Override? check box, you can swap out the device location for whatever you set using the map or lat/long text boxes. Be sure to uncheck the box when you?re done so that your location (and timezone) come back to reality ? every vacation must end?

This also works for web pages in Microsoft Edge, letting you test your webpages in different parts of the world.

Your best option may be to open device manager (with device connected) and uninstall any related device, making sure the 'Delete driver software for this device' is checked.Once you have done this, unplug your device, uninstall WMDC 6.1 and reboot your machine. Then follow the instruction on my first reply, this should sort it for you.If anyone is helpfull, please click the 'Vote as helpfull' icon.

The vmware virtual pc is treated as a second computer,
so it locks in the drive when activated.
You would need to share the drive and access over the network
to use it from windows.

A:How to get rid of Windows Mobile Device Center ?

Hmm, honestly my first time hearing about this.

When I plug in a device a notification on top right part of screen pops up asking what I want to do with this device. WMDC window never popped up.

I thought this was only if you have a windows phone. It shouldn't open up for any random device, only your phone.

You can set it up to "do nothing" when a device is plugged in,
but this would mean every time you plug in a new device,
in the upper right-hand corner to click the notification and selecing "do nothing"

You can try the following:
Plug your device into the computer
Press Windows key + R In the open field type: devmgmt.msc
Look under Network adapters for Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter, right click on it and select uninstall.
Next look under Mobile Devices for Microsoft USB Sync, right click and uninstall.
Now unplug your device and plug it back in, and see if WMDC launches.
If some reason device manager is not picking up the device after plugging it back in, just right click on the computer name in device manager and select scan for hardware changes.

OK, so interestingly, that Microsoft website didn't work in IE9, but worked in FireFox. LOL!

FF allowed me to DL some program that spat out a "validation code" to enter into the website to download the WMDC file.

Judging by the file name, it turns out that I did download that file years ago, but it doesn't look like I ever downloaded the "validator". Must be something new with Microsoft. I guess it must be quite new...because it doesn't work on their OWN website with their OWN browser! rofl!

See other thread for better details)

Heres the question --- does anyone have a work around/alternative program/stand alone drivers that will allow Vista to see/comunicate with PDA's???????

Hi Guys,  I'm trying to install the WMDC on Windows 7 and I'm getting and error about how I don't have at least one component required by it.... Any ideas?

A:Installing Windows Mobile Device Center on Win 7

Hi YukiLTU,

Your problem description is not detailed. At least, you should record the full error message here.

I suggest you download WMDC installation file again from the following link to make sure the installation file is good.

32-bit: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=46f72df1-e46a-4a5f-a791-09f07aaa1914

In order to make sure the system components are good, you can run System File Checker to scan the system.

Run System File Checker
========================
1. Click “Start” button, “All Programs” and “Accessories”, right click on “Command Prompt” and select “Run as administrator”.
2. Type "SFC     /Scannow" (without quotation marks) and press “Enter”.

If some files cannot be fixed, you run the following command to save the detailed log in Drive C.

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >C:\sfcdetails.txt

Now, I suggest you upload it to SkyDrive and provide us the link for analyzing.

If everything is good, I suggest you try to install WMDC again in Clean Boot. In Clean Boot, other programs will not affect the installation.

If the issue reoccurs, I hope you can capture a screenshot of the error message and upload it to SkyDrive.

In which case, if it is on, where are the recovery keys stored for Windows 10 Mobile Devices?

I would like to remove it completely because i believe it is interfering with my itunes. So if anyone is aware of a simple method to remove WMDC off my computer permanently and easily plz let me know.
thanks.

Hi,

Well here is the conventional way (you have to remove two components from Add/Remove Programs)

Open the Start menu

Click Control Panel

Click on Uninstall or Change a Program

Select Windows Mobile Device Center from the program list and click Uninstall

Select Windows Mobile Device Center Driver Update from the program list and click Uninstall
You can also try to remove it using the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. Install and run this utility and then remove anything to do with Windows Mobile Device Centre. Since the Microsoft download website doe not appear to be working, I have attached the installer.

Hello cpsqlrwn,

There's a Windows Mobility Center now in Windows that may work for you for this instead.

Windows Mobility Center - Open and Use

Windows Mobility Center Shortcut - Create

Hope this helps,

Hello all

I have been trying to connect my Compaq 3970 to my new Aspire M3200 PC which has a Vista OS. The original installation software was rejected by Vista and I was directed to download Windows Mobile Device Center. When the PDA is in it's cradle it will connect with the PC and I can see it in "My Computer" but when I click on "Set up your device" I get an error message "There is a problem with your connection. Please disconnect and reconnect your device and try again". I have tried this a number of times and get the same message. The PDA is connected to the PC via USB.

I would appreciate any advice

Thanks in advance

Pete

Hi all,

I have a windows mobile phone running WM 6.1.I have windows mobile device center installed on my laptop. The problem is when i try connecting my phone to my laptop using USB cable, windows device center initiates then says connecting for few minutes then gives message error with a big red X mark.

I read somewhere windows live essential messes up with mobile device center software. I have re installed mobile device center software many times, even re installed my phones device drivers too using device manager but still no luck. And finally thinking it might be my phones fault i reformatted my phone to factory settings and then tried connecting the same error cropped up.

And if this info helps in my firewall settings i have enabled wmdc.exe as trusted application.

I just wanted to sync my phone's contacts and stuff with my laptop through active sync

Any help will be appreciated

I just bought a new phone, (o2 XDA Flame) and I can't get syncing working.

Whenever I try to install Windows Mobile Device Centre, it fails. I run the installer, it seems to do nothing. Under control panel -> Hardware, and onthe start menu, theres a link to Windows Mobile Device Center, but it doesn't actually launch anything. No errors, just nothing comes up at all. Except for the first time I ran it, when it said something about installing, but then disapeared.

When I try to connect the phone to the PC, it fails - Can't find the driver. The phone came with a CD, but there weren't any drivers on it.

Theres also now an item in Windows Update (Windows Mobile Remote Adaptor), but trying to install that fails.

I am running Windows Vista Ultimate x64, with SP1 - every update besides the one mentioned is installed.

If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this, I would apreciate it.

Hi,

I have an old smartphone. A HTC HD2 running Windows Mobile 6.5

Till Windows 7, I had no problems to synchronize my contacts, Calendar and Task with my pc via Windows Mobile Device Center.

Now, I upgraded my PC to Windows 10 and replaced the Windows Mobile Device Center with the new version.

Since, I cannot synchronize any more.
Each time I get the message 'Exchange Activesync encountered an error'.
There is no error number, no suggestion.

I will be very thankfully if you can suggest me a solution.

I've recently upgraded my laptop to an HP ProBook 640, but have some issues with WIndows Mobile Device Center & not able to launh it when tyring to connect up & configure a Motorola Vehicle Mount RF unit.  In the past, with a Dell laptop, i was able to hook up a USB cable to the laptop & then Windows Mobile Device Center would launch then giving me access to configure our devices. But now using the HP ProBook its unable to launch this app, which then is not allowing me to configure these devices.  Also, noticed that the device when its connected up vis USB cable, the device will not show in My Computer & Devices as a connected device. But all other devices (printers, external drives, etc) will all show. Any help is appreciated.

A:unable to launch windows mobile device center

Hi, WIndows Mobile Device Center  has nothing to do with Dell and/or HP, it is a product from Microsoft. I think WIndows Mobile Device Center has different name under Windows 10 now. Please try "Sync Center". Regards.

Hi
I am having a lot of difficulty in using the mobile device centre in W7. I am trying to sync a mobile device running Windows 6.1. As part of my testing I have done the following.
1. installed Windows 7 Enterprise on a new HP DC7700 box. Nothing else installed or configured. Connected the mobile device - worked perfectly. Drivers installed, mobile device centre loaded. Device connected.
2. Installed Windows 7 Enterprise on the same HP DC7700 box. Connected to our work domain. Added myself to local administrator group. Rebooted PC. Connected mobile device. Drivers did not install. Mobile device centre does not load.
3. Logged into #2 PC using local admin account (not domain account). Drivers didnot install. Mobile device centre does not load.
Neither image has AV or any other programs installed. The only difference is workgroup v domain.
I have spoken to our sys admin. Apart from password policy changes, there are no changes to group policy.
We need these to work. Not only do most of the managers here use Windows 7 & smart phones, our custom built application also runs on Windows mobile devices. We need to be able to sync these so we can install our program.
I am stuck. Any suggestions would be most welcome.
Thanks
Andrew

Hi,

Can you write down the detail error message when Mobile Device Center does not load and the driver cannot be installed?

At this stage, I suggest you perform a Clean Boot to check the result. Is the driver installed now?

If not, please capture the error message and upload it for research.

Thanks,
Novak

Hi,
I have DELL computer OPTIPLEX GX260.
I have set up NOKIA PC suite V. 6.85 program .
When I connect my mobile ' NOKIA 3120" into any USB in the machine , windows xp cannot recognize USB deviice and I cant reach to my mobile .
the USB ports in my compiter work correctly when I connect another device to it, such as Hrad disk or flah memory.
Nokia siad : with NOKIA PC suite V. 6.85 program you should not set up driver for cables such as KU2-D or CA-53 cables becuase the drivers already in the program.
But when I connect my mobile ' NOKIA 3120" into any USB in the machine using one of the two cables, windows xp cannot recognize USB deviice and show it as "unknown device'.
I try to set up drivers for this cables , but I still have the same problem.
Ialso I try to uninstall the program and reinstall it again. I try to shutdown my compioter, using another program such as "MobiMB Mobile Media Browser' . but all of these trying did nothing.
I went to a friend who has serial cable and connected my mobile to his mahine, It recognises my mobile.
I hope any body to help me to resolve this problem
Thankes

I offer this post in the hope that it may help others in the same situation.

I had WMDC working well with my TYTN (HTC Hermes) but, having moved to an HTC Touch Pro 2, I found that the connecting and syncing was very unreliable. Two days ago WMDC started saying "error" instead of connecting to my phone.

I uninstalled WMDC, and then reinstalled 3 or 4 times - no go. I read everything I could on the issue (and there is plenty of it ) in this forum, and other places. After several frustrating hours, I hit the jackpot - I am only sorry I cannot remember where.

I uninstalled WMDC and WMDC update with Revo uninstaller, and reinstalled them - bingo ! It is reasonably clear to me that Revo does a better job at cleaning out registry entries than Windows uninstaller, certainly in this case. I was so grateful to Revo that I bought the package (special offer at the moment).

I sincerely hope this helps other searchers for a solution to this problem.

Whether I stick with a Windows phone, long term, is a different issue!

A:Windows Mobile Device Centre not responding to new phone.

Windows uninstaller only does what the program's uninstaller tells it to do.
I liked the older uninstalls where you could manually select every single component of a program and remove it completely.

Glad you fixed your problem.

I am running Vista 32 bit. I downloaded from MS the Windows Mobile Device Center installation file. When I run the install, the progress bar gets down to the very end, says 0 secs left, then it sits there for about 15 seconds and then the progress bar goes backward and all the install dialogs go away with no message. And the program is not installed. When I rebooted the screen is blank, Vista does not boot fully.

I restored the computer from an image I had made previously with Norton Ghost. I downloaded a new copy of WMDC and ran the install, it did the same thing.

Any ideas?

Thanks

A:Cannot install program Windows Mobile Device Center

I was avoiding restarting the computer for fear it would give a blank screen again, but I did restart it and it seems ok, so it did not corrupt Vista like before.

But I do not see WMDC in the Start menu. Now I am wondering if it is not supposed to show up since WMDC is just a driver, (I think) not really an application. Maybe it will start automatically when I plug in the phone, which is not here right now, my wife returns with it later.

(If there is a better forum or place to ask the below question please advise!)

The SW I am using to synchronize my Windows Mobile phone with my desktop Outlook recently turned more and more sour and eventually always only seconds after connecting the device reproducibly crashed with the message "Window mobile Device Center Sync Host has stopped working.".

Eventually I decided to uninstall "Windows Mobile Device Center" and re-install it.
To reinstall I ran the setup.exe program that I had found in C:\Windows\WindowsMobile. But apparently that was either not the right setup file or some pieces must still be missing, because since that re-install the greenish dialog that used to open when starting WMDC lacks the right part of the content and instead there is now always an alert popping up: "unhandled exception has occured in your application ...." (the details I append below).

That means, that my mobile device synchronization is now completely f*$#%# up. Any idea how to re-install Window Mobile Device Center plus Mobile Sync Center such that they work again?

Michael

Hi,

I work for a SKF Authorized Distributor. SKF is a 100 year Engineering Company and the leader in industrial machine inspections. One of the devices we sold is a Vibration Analyzer ($50K USD), that we connect to PC in order to upload
and download data.

For uploading and downloading data we need 2 things to be done, install the USB Driver correctly and a correct sync software (Active sync for XP and earlier, WMDC for Win7 and so on).

One of our most important clients recently acquired one Vibration Analyzer. The USB Driver installation is done, but we haven?t been able to install the Windows Mobile Device Center on their laptops. We have tried as an administrator,
and nothing happened. The software appears to be installed (we can see it on a folder in the HDD) but it doesn´t run though. It did not create the shortcuts on the menu either.

Their computers run under Windows 7 Enterprise and 64bits. Same thing happened on 2 laptops. Win7 SP1 is also installed. .NET Framework
4.5 is installed and active.

I really appreciate what you could do for us. We are more than happy to send you screens and whatever you need in order to have the sync software working ASAP.

Thanks, Martin

I have a Dopod 838 Pro which uses new Windows Mobile software.

It connects via USB to my computer and then synchronises through ActiveSync.

Originally, I had no problem in taking photos with the Dopod 838 Pro, plugging it in to my computer and then simply copying or moving the photos from the device to the computer. However now, for an unknown reason, when I go to copy or move them from the device, it simply does not transfer the file to the computer. If I try to move the file, when I go to 'paste' it in to the location desired on the computer, it makes a 'system alert' noise and then shows no message and does not 'paste' the file.

Does anyone know how I can correct this?

Any help would be appreciated.

I installed WMDC on my Windows 7 x64 here the other day, but i don't need it anymore, so i want to remove it. Thought it was enough uninstalling the two entries in "Programs and Features" but there is still two or more services left behind as well as a folder in: "C:\Windows\WindowsMobile", and the WMDC icon in the control panel.

So am wondering if anyone know how to completely uninstall/remove WMDC? My guess is that i have to dive into the registry?

A:How-to completely remove Windows Mobile Device Center?

honestly, just leave it. You can cause more issues trying to rip it from the registry than will be caused by leaving it.
