W8 - Change French to English & Office 2007 Student edition

Q: W8 - Change French to English & Office 2007 Student edition

Computer (Toshiba laptop) recently crashed and Windows 8.1 was reinstalled in France.
Unfortunately, all the MS Office commands on Ribbons (Excel, Word) are now in French!
I have tried all the recommended advice (forums, Microsoft) but in vain
First checked Windows has "English" as default language
Then, in Word under"Options Word" then "Standard" under "Parametres linguistiqes", under"Langue d'edition principale", "Anglais" is the only language shown
Any suggestions would be welcome

Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a question that some of you may be able to answer.

My wife translates from English to Dutch.

She uses Word 2002 which I think is referred to as XP. As such she has no need to use any newer version. However she needs the Dutch Dictionary and requires the Proofing Tools Office XP CD, which is no longer available.

She doesn't need the new interface of 2007, but in order to get the proofing tools, it looks like that is the only way to go.

Questions
One
If we purchase the Student edition which is a good price from Amazon, can she use Word in the classic functionality. My wife is a touch typist and uses all the keyboard shortcuts and hardly ever uses the mouse. Its that functionality that she needs. She doesn't have time to learn the new functionality of 2007 and does not want to use mouse techniques as that slows her down so badly.

Two
Is there a proofing tool for just the English and Dutch languages. The Office Proofing Tools Kit 2007 contains many languages including Dutch, but is very expensive. Anybody got any idea on that?

Thanks for any help

Les

A:Solved: Office 2007 Home/Student edition & Proofing Tools

Well I have managed to sort the questions out.

For anybody interested, here are the answers.

It would seem that there isn't a Classic menu structure available. However the keyboard shortcuts that have been with Office since its inception, remain basically the same. Here is a link to all the keyboard shortcuts. http://www.keyxl.com/aaa367b/5/Microsoft-Word-keyboard-shortcuts.htm
So its hunky Dorey for my wife

I was able to purcgase though Microsoft the Dutch Lamguage Tool seperately for 31.05, instead of having to buy the complete Multilanguage version at 150. Here is the link http://buy.trymicrosoftoffice.com/b...&culture=en-gb&resID=tzlz5goHAisAAEXNdBIAAAAV
All you do is select the language you want and pay the money and you then download the language tool you have paid for. 900MB in size. Took me 9 minutes to download.

Finally for parents who have children going to school or university, you can buy various apps at silly prices (including Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 which includes
- Microsoft Office Excel 2007
- Microsoft Office Word 2007
- Microsoft Office Outlook 2007
- Microsoft Office Groove 2007
- Microsoft Office Access 2007
- Microsoft Office Communicator 2007
- Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007
- Microsoft Office InfoPath 2007
- Microsoft Office OneNote 2007
- Microsoft Office Publisher 2007)
All for the princely sum of 35 and you can put it on 2 machines. It is only meant for machines you have at home and Microsoft do checks to make sure... Read more

Hi 1960apache, welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

See if there is anything in these MS websites that might help you.

Configure Language Settings for Outlook Web App: Exchange 2010 Help

In the second one there is reference to the language used by the client website server, which could mean that if your email server provider doesn't support English then Outlook will use the servers language. That is my interpretation of the wording. It does refer to Outlook 2010 so that may be different to Outlook 2007 but it might help you a bit.
It might also be worth talking to your email provider as well.

Microsoft Office is already set to use both language

Although using Internet Explorer, we are having an issue where it only seem to spell check one language, giving errors when typing words in the other language.

Read on the internet some people that added both language in the keyboard layout, but that's not an interesting solution because first the French keyboard layout does all the English keys and second people tend to accidentaly switch language while typing
using shortcut or whatever

Any help regarding this issue would be appreciated

Outlook Express is not, and never has been, part of Office. It has always been part of Windows, so I see not relationship or danger of it being "removed".

Outlook is part of office, but as S&T version does not include Outlook, you should be OK.

Use a "custom install" option installing only the modules you want.

Thats broad. You can interpret that as you see fit, you both "reside" in the same "household" I guess.

So I just installed Microsoft Office 2007 (minus Outlook because I use OE) on my new laptop and because of a screwup by M$, the spellcheck in OE can only use the French dictionary! Wah--?! I've tried changing the default to English only in Word, but it didn't matter. I looked it up and found this option:http://www.outlook-tips.net/archives/2006/20061228.htmIf you install Office 2007, spell checking in Outlook Express may not work as expected, unless you want spell check in French. This is because Office 2007 uses new proofing tools and OE can't use them because it's designed to use the older tools. It's easy to fix: install just the proofing tools from your previous version of Office (using the custom install option). You can get them from any older Office suite or application - including FrontPage, Publisher or standalone versions of Word, Excel, or Outlook. To install just the proofing tools from Office 2003, run Office setup and choose the custom option. Uncheck all programs in the list and add a check to choose the options at the bottom of the programs list. No the nest screen, set each top level item to be Not Available (red X icon). Expand the Office Shared Features branch and locate Proofing tools in the list. Expand proofing tools and choose English, setting it to Run from my computer. Finish the installation.Once installed, restart OE - go to Tools, Options and verify Spelling is configured to use the correct English dictionary.I still have Office 2003 on... Read more

A:Oe Can Only Use French Dictionary For Spellcheck From Office 2007

I have office 2007 professional completely installed including Outlook. I still use OE and have no problem with the dictionary at all. My solution to the problem is I also have word from office XP installed and OE uses the proofing tools from that. The 3rd party spell checker you have should work fine. If you want to fix it without using 3rd party software install word from office 2003 that you have and use that instead of word 2007. You don't have to uninstall word 2007 for this to work just don't use it as the rest of office 2007 may need word 2007 to function.
Anyway, if you fix it my way or additional spell checker way, It'll be fine.

Hope that helps!

Hi everyone.....although I have many posts here, I am not a software person

I'm clearing out my closet and have run across this version of Microsoft Office....it's not in the original sealed box, but it is in the cd case, with product manual.

I'm certain I probably bought it for my niece who was going to school at the time, and she never installed it.

I'm thinking of giving it to my cousins who will want to install it on each of their computers (2 of them) --- and from all of my research, it "appears" that these shipped with a box that said "3 users" on the front.

Does anyone know for sure if they all shipped that way, or are there some that are one user only?

I don't wish to get the kids started early in attempting to install software on multiple computers

My question is if I am able to install it successfully and do the product activation, will I get the Service Pack (MS Office 2003 SP-3) through Windows Update? Since Office 2003 is supported until April 8, 2014, I would assume yes that should not be a problem. I know I can also download the Office 2003 SP3 manually.

I've edited out your first question as that is not something that we will help you get around. There are student versions of both Office 2007 and 2010. Generally the student versions allow for three installations but this would be specified when you purchase the software and it would be clearly indicated in the EULA as well.

I have looked everywhere in the spec/adverts/blurbs/hype to find out if Office 2007, in any of its versions, contains Sapi 6.1. I want Sapi 6.1 because I use TTS and STT a lot and have read/heard that 6.1 is significantly better at speech recognition than Sapi 5.1 that came with the pre-Office 2003 versions. References state that Office 2003 (Pro version definitely, maybe other versions as well) does contain Sapi 6.1, but have found no Sapi info, none at all, about any version of Office 2007.

I don't have the moolah or the need for the extra features of Office 2007 Pro, or Executive or whatever they call the top end version these days, but I would reluctantly fork out for Office 2007 Home & Student - IF and only IF it has Sapi 6.1.....

So, if you know, let me know, does Office 2007 Home & Student incorporate Sapi 6.1???

Or, another option: Since I would only be buying Office 2007 for Sapi 6.1, is it possible to obtain Sapi 6.1 in some way other than buying yet another piece of bloated M$ Office software? (I much prefer OpenOffice 2.2, and expect that I would continue using it almost all the time anyway, even if I did have a new version of Window$ Office.) However, M$ does not offer a Sapi 6.1 SDK download like it does 5.1. Not anywhere I can find, but if someone knows of a site to obtain it... that would work, too.

Thanks.

Rob

A:Microsoft MS Office 2007 Home and Student

My main concern would be if it's genuine and a retail version that will activate successfully. You'd be safer buying a retail version from a real retailer or online etailer to ensure you won't have issues with activation or legitimacy. Also, 2007 is pretty old, 2016 is the current version and usually can be bought for $149 or less, sometimes for $99 for the Home and Student version.

As for drivers, drivers have no relation to Office. Office 2007 is compatibility with Windows 10 and will install from an internal or external DVD drive.

I bought a new laptop recently over the Thanksgiving holidays. On the laptop came a pre-installed Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007. It says I need to enter the 25 character product key, so I looked on the bottom of my laptop and I copied down the 25 character product key and entered it in, but it did not work. Does that mean I have to buy another Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007?

Another problem I have with it is my new laptop was horrible laggy when I tried playing games on it (MapleStory, Audition, etc.). I did everything I could to improve the performance speed for it (uninstalled programs I didn't need, deleted unwanted files, Disk Clean Up, scanned Disk for errors, Disk defragment, scanned for spyware/adware/viruses, clean registry, blocked some programs from starting when Vista is turned on) and for some reason, Microsoft office stopped working well. When I turn on Word, Excel, Powerpoint, or OneNote, the splash screen would appear and stay there and nothing will happen. I've tried "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\WINWORD.EXE" /a and it actually opens the program, but when I open up one of my word documents, it freezes the program. What can I do to fix this?

My computer specs are

Windows Vista Home Premium
Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard
Model: HP Pavillion dv9500 Notebook PC
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor TK-53 1.70 GHz
Memory (RAM): 1983 MB
System type: 32-bit Operating System
Space: 103 GB

i bought a computer a few months ago and started writing a book. yes a book....something i always wanted to do im sure it will suck but another thing off my list as i turn 40....hahahahaha

anyway to my problem.
i am now locked out of the program due to the trial version expiring.
i am tight for cash with the holidays so i am wondering is there a way to get a key or extend the trial version so i can at least get into the program and get what i have typed so far and continue on another program.

i hate spending the money when i only really want to get my first few chapters that i have typed out. it will not let me cut and paste it or anything . i can see it but it is locked.

also if i am forced to buy the program and install it do i lose my writings when the new microsoft office home and student 2007 is installed ///wil it over write it?

i hope i can get the document out with out spending the money...that is my real goal here....i dont care if i can use the prgram again or not....just let me in to cut and past what i have down to another program....

thanks

Please help me, I am not as computer literate as microsoft thinks I am.....
I have an HP PC with Vista Home Premium. It is 1.5 years old. I had sent it back to HP earlier this year and it came back reverted to factory condition. Since then, I can not install any software even that compatible with Vista. For instance, I just got MS Office home and student 2007 and it "encounters error during installation". I do not have any other version of Office on my computer. I do have Works, which I tried to uninstall, but it wouldn't come off. Also, there is power point viewer, that also won't uninstall. I followed every step to get around this, but I am hesitant to screw up my computer with my ignorance. I am running on an administer account after following prior instructions from a forum such as this. Can anyone help me??

I just built my computer yesterday (MSI X48Platinum, Q9550, 8GB DDR3, Radeon 4850, 2 Velociraptors Raid0) with Vista Ultimate 64. Everything went really well. But, when I tried to install Office 2007 Home and Student, it said that it can't find the /en/powerpoint.cad file and it asked me to search for it. I could not get it to find it. I tried to stop installation and try again, but it did the same thing. I've installed Home and Student on XP and Vista 32-bit without any problem. Has anyone else had a similar problem or know what to do about it?

A:Can't install Office 2007 Home and Student

Tried it again today, and it decided to install... and fast. So, I guess, problem solved
