I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have no idea who this guy is and quite frankly he doesn't seem all that bright, but he did throw a bunch of malicious links at 3 top free AV products and the results were very interesting.

Avast the clear winner in these tests. Avira was plain awful, while MSE didn't fair very well either:

First thing I notice is that he is using XP, whatever ramifications of that are.

Second, he is using the default settings. Again, that is worth considering

Hi there,

I'm building a new system. Ive found an 8800gtx on scans website, it appears to be branded scanfx. The say "A Big Brand name card we're not allowed to mention. We guarantee 101% Satisfaction."

How good is this 8800gtx in comparison to say, an xfx or gigabyte model for example?

The only noticable differences are that it runs at 575mhz, whereas some of the other (more expensive) cards may run at 600mhz.

This card is under £300, which is amazing. Whereas some are over £400.. what do you reckon?

My Macbook Pro is from mid 2015 and it's already struggling with things big time and, as Black Friday is fast approaching, I am thinking to upgrade.A few of my friends asked if I would consider windows, and said how much cheaper they are, and I am having second thoughts. Here are the 3, I am considering:Macbook Pro 15" - i9,32GB RAM, ProVega20, 1TB SSD - £3,834Lenovo ThinkPad Extreme Gen 2 - i9, 32GB RAM, Nvidia 1650, 1TB SSD + Multi-Touch Screen + Wifi 6 support - £3,096HP Spectre x360 - i7, 16GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce 1650, 1TB SSD + Multi-Touch Screen, Wifi 6 support - £1,799I am going through a lot of courses now, learning video and graphic editing as well as doing a fair bit of LIVE streaming and will be using some device for NOTE TAKING (OneNote). When I had a little play with Lenovo's touch screen on a laptop, I expected it to be poor, but it was actually good!An Ipad Pro 11inch is ANOTHER £1,100 on top of a Macbook. So a top spec Macbook Pro + Ipad Pro would cost me nearly £5,000, what seems absolutely INSANE. No touch screen of WIFI 6 on MACs, that seems just crazy to me in this day and age.The only reason why I am even considering is because I also have an iWatch & iPhone XR. I don't quite know if I could even control devices and do "screen mirroring" and "Clipboard" between an iphone and a windows laptop or TVs.Is there anything "pro macs" that I am missing here? What would you do??

If you do not yet have a Gmail account, then tomorrow there will be a chance for you to get one.

At 5pm BST, there will be a competition consisting of 10 questions, available from http://gmailcomp.webdesign.purplecloud.net, or http://webdesign.purplecloud.net.

The competition will consist of 10 questions, with the first two people getting 100% correct to get a Gmail invitation each.

You can be reminded when the competition is going to start - simply go to one of the url's and enter your email in the box shown.

Just thought this would be a better way of giving away email accounts rather than selling them or whatever.

I have been using 360 Security for over a year now with no problems but I am now having to do lots of online banking and am not sure if I have enough protection with 360.
I have a trial version of ESET Smart Security Premium installed which has dedicated banking and payment protection.
I have noticed that other software such as Kaspersky, BitDefender,Comodo,F-Secure all have similar elements. Do these additional features actually give more protection ? An IT consultant friend says that these features are mainly 'cosmetic' . Is this so ?

Would welcome further advice and recommendations please, thanks.

Just out of interest I thought I would ask this as my 1.4Ghz Athlon at 1.5Ghz with a Y-Tech 4000 rpm fan is reasonably loud. I wouldn't like to consider the noise necessary to overclock a chip from 1.6Ghz to 2.2Ghz with air cooling (600Mhz!!). I used to have Delta Fan on my SK6 heatsink but it was unbearable and I seem to get loaded temps of about 40 degrees celcius with the lower specification fan so I am ok with my 100Mhz overclock (via 133 fsb -> 143 fsb, A7M266 doesn't have multiplier dip switches or bios settings).

One reason I have always considered Intel CPU as an alternative to my beloved AMD chip is the ability to run cooler and therefore require a less deafening HSF.

So does anyone currently have a P4 overclocked significantly (Particularly the "a" northwoods) and can provide any information about the cooling that they need?

A:3DS Competition prize: P4 1.6a running at 2.2Ghz. With what cooling?

Most of the posts I've seen, pple are using air cooling with even the stock HSF!!! This isn't really surprising since the Northwood core is capable in running up to speeds of >2.2Ghz

Your .dmp file shows a stop error of 0x124 which is a general hardware error .. A "stop 0x124" is fundamentally different to many other types of bluescreens because it stems from a hardware complaint. Stop 0x124 minidumps contain very little practical information, and it is therefore necessary to approach the problem as a case of hardware in an unknown state of distress. This is something that regularly seems to happen, yesterday for the second time. The first time it disappeared just by a "SuperAntispyware Free" scan, but this time it didn't go away with this program. I found Combofix.exe on the internet, but only now read you shouldn't use this without suppervision. The installation went without problems and it run for about one hour, without change in the popup. I closed the program without problems again, but as the redirect on my site hasn't disppeared (Combofix wasn't finished yet), I come to this forum for further help.
In case I really need a scan with Combofix, please can somebody tell me what to do further? The problem is thus that the program doesn't show any progress after the blue popup telling it is scanning the computer system and that it can take 10 minutes or the double in case of heavy infections. I thought an hour is too much and then, the program seemed never to finish .
Please is Combofix the best program to get the redirect removed or do I need to use something else?
What I further to know is if you can avoid these redirects by protecting your site with Norton or another antivirus?
And at last, doesn't the inbuilt antivirus of a browser (when it is 'on') not protect against redirects?

My current system was upgraded to windows 7 32bit from vista 32bit (I bought the windows 7 home premium upgrade disc when it was first released). I am going to build a complete new system. Can I install windows 7 64bit from the same windows 7 disc? Or do I have to buy a new windows 7 disc? Is there a way around buying a whole new disc?

A:Solved: New computer build work with old build's Windows 7 Disc?

It won't activate and you will end up in Safe Mode permanently. One machne = one license. You need to buy another full version. But you can do it if you don't use 7 on the old machine. You will just have to activate by phone and explain. Then if you go online with both, one will deactivate and go to Safe Mode.

Has anyone else found this to be true?

I've just installed XP on a small form factor Aspire X1200 media desktop system and it has absolutely cleared up all the tics and traits that could have been hardware or software related so I'm jazzed about that (its not a lemon after all!).

The last test was Firewire write speed over a network. I have two X1200s and the other one has 7RC installed and I use TeraCopy to take my speed measures from. The Firewire connection is built in and it's a small 4-pin type to 6-pin at the external drive. Identical Firewire drives on both systems (750 gig LaCie).

The write speed to the drive on the 7RC ranges from 4.5 to 5.7 MB/s. The write speed to the firewire drive on this system, when it was under Vista's control was 4.8 to 5.2 MB/s consistently. Both would always seem to start a little faster, like in the 14-17 MB/s range but by the end, that was the average.

Now, XP write speed to the same firewire drive from a USB drive over the network was 26 MB/s (about 31 gigs in just over 20 minutes if that works out correctly). The write speed from yet another firewire drive over the network was 32 MB/s.

I had thought, well maybe the 4pin to 6pin cable was a bottleneck or something but such does not seem to be the case now. Choice of OS seems to be the bottleneck. It would be interesting if anyone had similar results or differing results, and maybe find out what, if anything can be done to get the speed up on 7RC. Doesn't bo... Read more

I have a case, power supply (250wtts) from a 11 year old Dell.
Motherboard went bad so I removed everything. I have 2 good hard drives, USB2 card, and the case is good.
I would like to put together another computer to be used only as a work station.
No gaming, no audio, some photo editing, all using the older hardware I already have.
Also need a network card which I do have also.
I can use the old OP system since it will be on the drive to be installed.
Even have the old ram I should be able to use.
Is there any place that your aware of, I can go to try to acquire a new older motherboard ?
I may also use the 2nd drive to install a Linux program.
My main reason for doing this is I want to continue using XP so I can have Front Page 2002 on the drive.
I'm aware of being able to use this in 7, using Virtual comp.
Not quite sure of what I am asking here, I know what I want to do, however not sure if it can be accomplished.

Hi guys, I was hoping you could help me make my choice on which parts to buy for my new computer that I will be buying as soon as the Intel price cuts take effect.

I have done some research and pretty much decided on these parts, all of which I will be buying from a local computer store:
Intel Q6600
eVGA 8800GTS 320MB
Seagate 320GB SATA II HD
Liteon 20X DVD-RW SATA

Now I just need to decide on the motherboard and RAM. Here are the possiblities I've identified for the mobo (prices in CDN$):
Asus P5K $162
Asus P5B-VM $130

The P5K supports a 1333MHz FSB, but I don't know if this matters since it will be years before I upgrade again. The P5K will also allow for some overclocking. I'm not really into overclocking, but if I could easily and safely overclock my q6600 with the stock cooler and my above listed setup I might give it a try. Will this be possible? Taking this into account, is the P5K worth the extra $32?

As for the RAM, I suppose that might depend on the answer to the overclocking question. So here are some options (all 2GB):
Crucial Rendition 667MHz $100
Crucial Rendition 800MHz $118
Kingston ValueRAM 667MHz $101
OCZ 667MHz $109 or $112 w/heatspreader

Kingston HyperX and OCZ Platinum are significantly more expensive, costing about $160 for 2GB.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hope I'm posting this is right place. I'm building my first nice Gaming computer and want to make sure I do it right.
I'm looking at
windows 10 64bit,
i7 8700k CPU water cooled.
960 evo ssd,
Gtx 1080ti,
850watt psu,
Ram to be determined
Screen to be determined.
Case to be determined.

1st question
I'm looking for a nice case that supports water cooling and also dust resistant as I live in a dusty area. Any ideas? I don't mind a bigger case would like to have the room to work in it and have space to add more gear in the future.
Witch z370 would you recommend for overclocking and nvme support.
Witch gtx1080ti would you recommend for overclocking
Is 850watts enough for sli? Or will next generation cards be less power hungry and more powerful.
What would you recommend for the fastest ram? would like at least 16gb.
What would you recommend for screen? Would really like a 4k 144hz if they make them yet. Would that set up power 4k 144hz?

Any help is much appreciated have 2500 for computer parts and 1000 budgeted for screen. Would like to setup best possible Gaming PC with that budget. Thanks

Recommend Nvidia for the graphics card.
850 watts should work fine.
recommend crucial ballistics or Corsair vengenance to the ram.

dont you have any sites in your country - if the equipment is faulty may be a lot less hassel

also you may have to pay import tax or duty on anything from abroad - have a search and see if you are liable .
I only know about UK - and we dont have import duty but we do ave a 17.5% VAT tax that will be applied

These are the parts I plan on ordering:

Cooler Master Stacker 830 SE (w/ 1000watt PSU) (Bought Already)
SAPPHIRE HD 2900Pro (Bought Already)
Asus Striker Extreme Mainboard
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
CORSAIR XMS2 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 800
Western Digital Raptor X WD1500AHFD 150GB
Sony NEC Optiarc Black 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM
(8) Thermaltake A2018 120mm Blue LED Case Fan
SAMSUNG 216BW Monitor
(Don't harrass me for my build, lol)

For the tech savvy people posting up, Would AMD mb/crossfire combo do better than what I have here? because as far as I'm concerned, I've heard nightmares about that Striker Extreme, and I won't be able to SLI anytime soon because I already have the HD 2900pro.
And I'm really fond of intel and ATI, but it doesn't seem as if they make half decent motherboards with both of them (I want full x16, x16 crossfire w/ core 2 quad btw). Or should I attempt returning the 2900pro and pick up a couple nvidias? If so, any picks? If you guys would change anything up, what would it be? I want the full out of my $2200(I could go a bit over I guess) and I d... Read more

Right now I'm looking for a computer with...

1 GB of RAM

A graphics card that will run Half Life 2 in 1024 x 768 with no slowdown

And around a 3 ghz processer

Decent sound card

40-60 GB storage

One cdrw/dvd drive

I just need standard XP and I don't need a monitor, speakers, keyboard or mouse. The budget is around 500, a little more or little less

Is there a reliable site I can customize and order a computer like this? Also can anyone give me an estimate(if you know) how much this might be? Thanks ahead of time.

Hey Guys, looking at building a new gaming computer to replace my current set-up.

I want to build a new computer completely so I can have this one for my family or friends when they come over.

Current Specs:

Intel i7 870 2.93Ghz Turbo 3.6Ghz
Coolermaster 412 Slim CPU Cooler
ASUS P7H55D-M EVO Motherboard
16Gb DDR3 Kingston 1600Mhz
Nvidia GeForce 570GTX
120GB WD SSD (primary)
1TB WD Black HDD(Secondary)
Thermaltake MK-I Chaser Case

What I'm looking at getting:

G.Skill Ripjaws X F3-2400C11Q-16GXM (4x4GB) DDR3 (LINK)
Intel Core i7 4820K LGA2011 (LINK)
ASUS P9X79-LE Motherboard (LINK)
Corsair Force Series LS 120GB SSD (LINK)
Western Digital WD Black 1TB WD1003FZEX (LINK)
Corsair RM-1000 80 Plus Gold Power Supply (LINK)
Corsair Carbide 300R Black Mid-Tower Gaming Case (LINK)
Cooler Master Hyper 412 CPU Cooler (LINK)

I was looking at setting up crossfire although this would be the first time I've tried a Crossfire/SLI set-up But I was looking at getting 2 Gigabyte Radeon R9 280X Overclocked 3GB (LINK)

I live in Australia so sadly I'm pretty limited to what I can get and its even worse in Western Australia.
I was also wondering what you guys would recommend for case cooling. I've never done and liquid cooling before and would prefer to just fill up all fan slots on the case if possible.

Thanks guys,

Yes I did look at the troubleshooting guide.

My Build:
Asus M5A99X EVO R2.0
AMD FX 8150
2 Corgsair XMS3 DDR3
Evga GTX 660 ti
Ultra X4 730W power supply

So basically this is my first build. I got it quite a while back but i
Havent been able to use it for the past couple months because of multiple
troubles that it has been giving me. So it worked for awhile but all of the
sudden it began to blue screen frequently. After trying to fix the problem
for about two weeks, the computer just decided to give out. After multiple tests
I came to the conclusion that it must be the motherboard, or the cpu. Dont bother
telling me its a power supply problem because i know it wasn't. Now I rma'd the
motherboard first, when i finally got it back the crashing problem persisted. So
the only logical thing left to do was to RMA the cpu. When i got it I installed it
and when i turned it on it would not boot. So I decided to barebone it and figure
out why it wouldnt post.
Now my assumption is that for some reason its not recognizing the new cpu. The thing
is that the dram-led stays solid until i try using the mem ok! button as directed in the
manual and then it blinks indefinitely.I dont believe its the ram because it posted
before i rma'd the cpu. So basically ive pushed by computer skills and patience of over
2 months BS to the limit. I just want my computer to work because im sick of
using my programs on my laptop because of the lag.

it would mean the worl... Read more

Okay, so I need to build a dual-core system.

I also need to have it super-efficient as much as possible while at the same time allowing me to OC it a bit.

I'm going with non-integrated graphics. (The computer I'm on drives me nuts.)

In any case, I'm thinking of purchasing a C2D since I hear they overclock and are much more overclockable. Whether they're EE, I wouldn't know.

I also want the system to be somewhat quiet...even though I can't hear the blasted things! X-D It will have at the very least, 1-2 gigs of memory on it...(Provided I can get somebody to help me out.)

I'm also intending to install Vista on it...later, that is. When the OS is a wee bit more..affordable, shall we say? (I have no idea when that's gonna happen)

In the meantime, I guess I'll run Linux on it. Or XP...if I can find my retail CD.

I'll be keeping monitor, mouse and keyboard, so these are out, fortunately.

Any suggestions?

Just so you know, I'll be doing this piecemeal.

Budget is going to be very tight....a little too tight for my liking...but such is the way of life.

The time has come to retire the current rig and I am looking to build a formidable gaming machine. I am considering the following components:

Athalon FX-53
Asus SK8V MoBo
ATI x800 XT
1 GB Corsair Mem
2 74 GB WD Raptors in Raid 0

The rest of the components will be whatever is on sale at the time.

Now, for my questions:

1) Having never built a high end machine before, how much cooling will I need? Is the CPU heatsink that is bundled with the FX-53 good enough or should I use a third party's setup? Do I need to buy a slot cooler or another fan for the case?

2) How big of a power supply will I need?

3) How big of a headache will it be to set up RAID 0? Anyone had any experience with the RAID controller on the SK8V?

And lastly, of the components I listed, is there anything you would do differently?

Thanks for your help. I bought my last machine from a vendor so it's been about 4 years since I built my own. Lots of new stuff out there to catch up on.

If I were you , I would definately not get XP home. It will only support about 3 gigs of your ram, and a google search will reveal multi-core cpu compatability issues with XP home. I would get vista 64 bit, because it will support all your ram, and in my opinion, vista is superior to XP.

Ok, I've got everything except for a hard drive chosen for my computer build. I need the wonderful people from this forum to do two things for me.
1) Check over all my parts and maake sure they are compatible, and
2) Help me pick out a hard drive that's also compatible (I'm looking for something around 100-250gb or so for not too much money) And for the hard drive, I've been informed that OEM comes without the cables, screws, and evertything else. Please take into consideration that I have none of those and need them.

Cd/dvd rom drive

case and power supply

motherboard and video card

I'd like to keep the price close to a low $300 so if you can help me that'd be great. Any and all comments and suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

I recently played medieval total war and got addicted. I want to play medieval 2 total war, but my computer system is really slow even on the lowest graphic settings. I have a 6 year old dell with 512 MB of Ram (I have more but it won't take any more than), Nvidia 5200 FX video card, and 173 MB hard drive (most it will allow).

I know a little about building a computer, but I am far behind in the latest motherboards, graphics cards… All I know is that AGP is going out and PCI is the way to go. Can some one please help me configure a nice gaming computer that I can play this game and possibly be able to upgrade later in case Total War 3 comes out. My budget is about $750, let me know if I can work with this.

A:Trying to Build A Computer!

Here is a list of things I made to do with a problem build. Follow the set of instructions under you assembled it and the system will not post.

What to do with a “Problem Build”

First are you getting the board to post [power on self test] If yes follow the first set of instructions

Board posts however there are lockups, bsod, cannot install windows

1) Since it posts, check your temps in the bios. It is very difficult to say what a “Normal” temp should be since each type of cpu [P4, Athlon, AMD64, etc] has a normal temp. What you should see in the bios is a stable temp of <55C. If the temp is much higher than that, you probably have the heatsink fan installed incorrectly.

2) If the temps are ok, pull all cards from the system except the video card. Disconnect any peripherals such as printer, scanner, usb hub, etc. Is it stable now? If so you have a problem with a piece of hardware or its driver.

3) Test the memory with a tester like memtest86. Just because you see a memory test during post means nothing. All that does is check to see if the memory is there. It does not check each memory address. Note this test is run from bootable media ie CD or floppy; there is no need for an operating system to be installed.

4) Power supply. A modern P4 or AMD64 needs a quality power supply. It is difficult to say what wattage you will need since this is dependant on many things; the number of fans, the number of hard drives you have install... Read more
