I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there,

I'm building a new system. Ive found an 8800gtx on scans website, it appears to be branded scanfx. The say "A Big Brand name card we're not allowed to mention. We guarantee 101% Satisfaction."

How good is this 8800gtx in comparison to say, an xfx or gigabyte model for example?

The only noticable differences are that it runs at 575mhz, whereas some of the other (more expensive) cards may run at 600mhz.

This card is under £300, which is amazing. Whereas some are over £400.. what do you reckon?

I have no idea who this guy is and quite frankly he doesn't seem all that bright, but he did throw a bunch of malicious links at 3 top free AV products and the results were very interesting.

Avast the clear winner in these tests. Avira was plain awful, while MSE didn't fair very well either:

First thing I notice is that he is using XP, whatever ramifications of that are.

Second, he is using the default settings. Again, that is worth considering

My Macbook Pro is from mid 2015 and it's already struggling with things big time and, as Black Friday is fast approaching, I am thinking to upgrade.A few of my friends asked if I would consider windows, and said how much cheaper they are, and I am having second thoughts. Here are the 3, I am considering:Macbook Pro 15" - i9,32GB RAM, ProVega20, 1TB SSD - £3,834Lenovo ThinkPad Extreme Gen 2 - i9, 32GB RAM, Nvidia 1650, 1TB SSD + Multi-Touch Screen + Wifi 6 support - £3,096HP Spectre x360 - i7, 16GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce 1650, 1TB SSD + Multi-Touch Screen, Wifi 6 support - £1,799I am going through a lot of courses now, learning video and graphic editing as well as doing a fair bit of LIVE streaming and will be using some device for NOTE TAKING (OneNote). When I had a little play with Lenovo's touch screen on a laptop, I expected it to be poor, but it was actually good!An Ipad Pro 11inch is ANOTHER £1,100 on top of a Macbook. So a top spec Macbook Pro + Ipad Pro would cost me nearly £5,000, what seems absolutely INSANE. No touch screen of WIFI 6 on MACs, that seems just crazy to me in this day and age.The only reason why I am even considering is because I also have an iWatch & iPhone XR. I don't quite know if I could even control devices and do "screen mirroring" and "Clipboard" between an iphone and a windows laptop or TVs.Is there anything "pro macs" that I am missing here? What would you do??

If you do not yet have a Gmail account, then tomorrow there will be a chance for you to get one.

At 5pm BST, there will be a competition consisting of 10 questions, available from http://gmailcomp.webdesign.purplecloud.net, or http://webdesign.purplecloud.net.

The competition will consist of 10 questions, with the first two people getting 100% correct to get a Gmail invitation each.

You can be reminded when the competition is going to start - simply go to one of the url's and enter your email in the box shown.

Just thought this would be a better way of giving away email accounts rather than selling them or whatever.

Is Windows 7 . . .

- an OEM or full retail version? Full Retail
- OEM = came pre-installed on system
- Full Retail = you purchased it from retailer

- What is the age of system (hardware)? Brand new, less than a month
- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) Same.

It crashes at random times... Sometimes it goes a whole day without crashing.
Other times it crashes minutes after start up.

Please help ASAP!!! I have a film competition this weekend and I got this computer specifically for this event!

These were all caused by hardware please read here for what it means and what to try

Your .dmp file shows a stop error of 0x124 which is a general hardware error .. A "stop 0x124" is fundamentally different to many other types of bluescreens because it stems from a hardware complaint. Stop 0x124 minidumps contain very little practical information, and it is therefore necessary to approach the problem as a case of hardware in an unknown state of distress. This is something that regularly seems to happen, yesterday for the second time. The first time it disappeared just by a "SuperAntispyware Free" scan, but this time it didn't go away with this program. I found Combofix.exe on the internet, but only now read you shouldn't use this without suppervision. The installation went without problems and it run for about one hour, without change in the popup. I closed the program without problems again, but as the redirect on my site hasn't disppeared (Combofix wasn't finished yet), I come to this forum for further help.
In case I really need a scan with Combofix, please can somebody tell me what to do further? The problem is thus that the program doesn't show any progress after the blue popup telling it is scanning the computer system and that it can take 10 minutes or the double in case of heavy infections. I thought an hour is too much and then, the program seemed never to finish .
Please is Combofix the best program to get the redirect removed or do I need to use something else?
What I further to know is if you can avoid these redirects by protecting your site with Norton or another antivirus?
And at last, doesn't the inbuilt antivirus of a browser (when it is 'on') not protect against redirects?

A:One of my urls is redirected to several games and competition websites

Just out of interest I thought I would ask this as my 1.4Ghz Athlon at 1.5Ghz with a Y-Tech 4000 rpm fan is reasonably loud. I wouldn't like to consider the noise necessary to overclock a chip from 1.6Ghz to 2.2Ghz with air cooling (600Mhz!!). I used to have Delta Fan on my SK6 heatsink but it was unbearable and I seem to get loaded temps of about 40 degrees celcius with the lower specification fan so I am ok with my 100Mhz overclock (via 133 fsb -> 143 fsb, A7M266 doesn't have multiplier dip switches or bios settings).

One reason I have always considered Intel CPU as an alternative to my beloved AMD chip is the ability to run cooler and therefore require a less deafening HSF.

So does anyone currently have a P4 overclocked significantly (Particularly the "a" northwoods) and can provide any information about the cooling that they need?

A:3DS Competition prize: P4 1.6a running at 2.2Ghz. With what cooling?

Most of the posts I've seen, pple are using air cooling with even the stock HSF!!! This isn't really surprising since the Northwood core is capable in running up to speeds of >2.2Ghz

I have been using 360 Security for over a year now with no problems but I am now having to do lots of online banking and am not sure if I have enough protection with 360.
I have a trial version of ESET Smart Security Premium installed which has dedicated banking and payment protection.
I have noticed that other software such as Kaspersky, BitDefender,Comodo,F-Secure all have similar elements. Do these additional features actually give more protection ? An IT consultant friend says that these features are mainly 'cosmetic' . Is this so ?

My current system was upgraded to windows 7 32bit from vista 32bit (I bought the windows 7 home premium upgrade disc when it was first released). I am going to build a complete new system. Can I install windows 7 64bit from the same windows 7 disc? Or do I have to buy a new windows 7 disc? Is there a way around buying a whole new disc?

A:Solved: New computer build work with old build's Windows 7 Disc?

It won't activate and you will end up in Safe Mode permanently. One machne = one license. You need to buy another full version. But you can do it if you don't use 7 on the old machine. You will just have to activate by phone and explain. Then if you go online with both, one will deactivate and go to Safe Mode.

Has anyone else found this to be true?

I've just installed XP on a small form factor Aspire X1200 media desktop system and it has absolutely cleared up all the tics and traits that could have been hardware or software related so I'm jazzed about that (its not a lemon after all!).

The last test was Firewire write speed over a network. I have two X1200s and the other one has 7RC installed and I use TeraCopy to take my speed measures from. The Firewire connection is built in and it's a small 4-pin type to 6-pin at the external drive. Identical Firewire drives on both systems (750 gig LaCie).

The write speed to the drive on the 7RC ranges from 4.5 to 5.7 MB/s. The write speed to the firewire drive on this system, when it was under Vista's control was 4.8 to 5.2 MB/s consistently. Both would always seem to start a little faster, like in the 14-17 MB/s range but by the end, that was the average.

Now, XP write speed to the same firewire drive from a USB drive over the network was 26 MB/s (about 31 gigs in just over 20 minutes if that works out correctly). The write speed from yet another firewire drive over the network was 32 MB/s.

I had thought, well maybe the 4pin to 6pin cable was a bottleneck or something but such does not seem to be the case now. Choice of OS seems to be the bottleneck. It would be interesting if anyone had similar results or differing results, and maybe find out what, if anything can be done to get the speed up on 7RC. Doesn't bo... Read more

16Gb DDR3 Kingston 1600Mhz
Nvidia GeForce 570GTX

1TB WD Black HDD(Secondary)
Thermaltake MK-I Chaser Case

What I'm looking at getting:

G.Skill Ripjaws X F3-2400C11Q-16GXM (4x4GB) DDR3 (LINK)
Intel Core i7 4820K LGA2011 (LINK)
ASUS P9X79-LE Motherboard (LINK)

Corsair Carbide 300R Black Mid-Tower Gaming Case (LINK)

I was looking at setting up crossfire although this would be the first time I've tried a Crossfire/SLI set-up But I was looking at getting 2 Gigabyte Radeon R9 280X Overclocked 3GB (LINK)

I live in Australia so sadly I'm pretty limited to what I can get and its even worse in Western Australia.
I was also wondering what you guys would recommend for case cooling. I've never done and liquid cooling before and would prefer to just fill up all fan slots on the case if possible.

Thanks guys,

I thought you may find it amusing and interesting to hear how my first ever computer build went.
Firstly, I live in the UK, I?m 67 years old and had not opened a desktop case before.
But I watched many Carey Holzman videos on YouTube and was inspired.
The video I based my build upon was the ?Working man?s computer build?.
I was intimidated by the amount of cables from a regular PSU, so I spent a few pounds extra and ordered the totally modular version. I only used three cables!

I was absolutely amazed when I turned on the desktop for the first time and it worked! All of the lights were on and the fans were going, I was so proud of myself you would not believe it.
However, I then checked the BIOS version to see if I needed an update. When I discovered that I did need an update I used my laptop to create the flash drive file. When I returned to the desktop to perform the update, it was turned off. I thought that this may have been automatic but, when I tried to restart the desktop, I got nothing. Absolutely nothing!

I then went into detective mode, in line with Carey?s other videos. I changed the power supply cable with one known to be working.
I was not happy that I could not feel the on button click when I pressed it, so I removed the front panel and used the switch directly.
Next, I swapped over the reset cable with the power on cable on the motherboard.
I disconnected all of the fans, re-seated the RAM and took out the Optical drive.
When none of the above worke... Read more

Board posts however there are lockups, bsod, cannot install windows

1) Since it posts, check your temps in the bios. It is very difficult to say what a “Normal” temp should be since each type of cpu [P4, Athlon, AMD64, etc] has a normal temp. What you should see in the bios is a stable temp of <55C. If the temp is much higher than that, you probably have the heatsink fan installed incorrectly.

2) If the temps are ok, pull all cards from the system except the video card. Disconnect any peripherals such as printer, scanner, usb hub, etc. Is it stable now? If so you have a problem with a piece of hardware or its driver.

3) Test the memory with a tester like memtest86. Just because you see a memory test during post means nothing. All that does is check to see if the memory is there. It does not check each memory address. Note this test is run from bootable media ie CD or floppy; there is no need for an operating system to be installed.

4) Power supply. A modern P4 or AMD64 needs a quality power supply. It is difficult to say what wattage you will need since this is dependant on many things; the number of fans, the number of hard drives you have install... Read more

Right now I'm looking for a computer with...

1 GB of RAM

A graphics card that will run Half Life 2 in 1024 x 768 with no slowdown

And around a 3 ghz processer

Decent sound card

40-60 GB storage

One cdrw/dvd drive

I just need standard XP and I don't need a monitor, speakers, keyboard or mouse. The budget is around 500, a little more or little less

Is there a reliable site I can customize and order a computer like this? Also can anyone give me an estimate(if you know) how much this might be? Thanks ahead of time.

I recently played medieval total war and got addicted. I want to play medieval 2 total war, but my computer system is really slow even on the lowest graphic settings. I have a 6 year old dell with 512 MB of Ram (I have more but it won't take any more than), Nvidia 5200 FX video card, and 173 MB hard drive (most it will allow).

I know a little about building a computer, but I am far behind in the latest motherboards, graphics cards… All I know is that AGP is going out and PCI is the way to go. Can some one please help me configure a nice gaming computer that I can play this game and possibly be able to upgrade later in case Total War 3 comes out. My budget is about $750, let me know if I can work with this.

Holy smokes.

Possibly, no one has commented because 1. people want to hear what you are aiming for - a gaming PC? CAD/CAM? Web-surfing? etc., and 2. you sure piled on a list of pricey items without any argument for why you need such pricey items when you can do nearly as well by sliding down the price range a lot, and 3. you have not said what size the SSD is - it might not be large enough to comfortably support operating system plus a few multi-player games.

A first-time build does not have to be the ultimate Win experience. Largely, builders work for a trade-off between cost and function. For your first build, you may want to build something that is straightforward, not too expensive, and can be upgraded in the future.

If money is no object, just get the most expensive of everything and enjoy. Just make sure everything is compatible.

I am not trying to be rude. Just kinda surprised by the price tags, and the lack of responses thus far.

I am thinking of building a new computer. I already have a powersupply, case, and soundcard.

Can you check over this build and see if this is a good one and if I am missing anything.

Will that motherboard be a good overclocker? Will my powersupply handle this it is a Hipro 600 Watt with dual 20 amp rails.

And will my Windows Vista 32 bit Home Premium OEM version work with this build will I be able to install it and will microsoft let me do that.

A:New Computer Build

Ain't that a great price......

An E6600 giveaway it is! A 32 bit OS will only allow you address 4 GB of RAM. Big deal. To get to the 8 GB they're claiming you would need to use 2 GB DIMMs. At in excess of $200.00 each, nobody needs them, and almost nobody can afford them. As long as your OEM Vista is not registered with another machine you can certainly use it. I don't think you're allowed to transfer an OEM Windows from another machine, the motherboard it's borne with is the one it dies with.
I saw that price (yesterday)on the Conroe and my credit cards started smoking in my pocket. Have fun!

Update, as of last night Newegg had already sold out of the C2D E6600. That came as no surprise in view of the price. Oh Well, they'll get more.

Welcome to TSG...You're likely to have ongoing troubles if you installed Windows while the drive was in another machine.

You can try installing the VIA platform drivers available here.

If your board has the VIA onboard video chip, its driver may also have installed with Windows. Try disabling onboard video in the BIOS, then install this driver for your nVidia card.

I am a big gamer and before i head off to college I was curious as to whether I should build a computer or buy one from Dell. Isn't going to be a lot more expensive if i build it from scratch? WIll the extra power in the computer be worth it? What about compatibility reasons? Please answer whatever you can, thanks....

A:Buy computer or build one?

I'd suggest build. You can get high quality parts, and ensure upgradability in the future.
With Dell you might actually be able to find a similar powered machine to one you can be build to be cheaper, but it wouldn't be by much if at all.
Compatibility shouldn't be an issue a little research and everything will go smooth.
Also if you ever wanted to overclock after you've strained all the upgrades you can get out of your system (or are just looking for a "free" boost in power), a custom built one if you bought quality parts will overclock nicely. Dells probably won't.
Others can give you other opinions, but I think on this board you'll find most people will suggest building your own.

Hi Guys

I want to build the computer I know there is 2 popular site to buy

1- pricewatch

But I tried in pricewatch I think there is not possible for me to buy because i live in Scandinavia countries or maybe i do mistake . is just for USA or also for Europe?
please if anybody has experience ( from Europe) and bought something from these 2 sites share with us of good and bad advantages.

please inform me in both websites .

A:To build the computer

dont you have any sites in your country - if the equipment is faulty may be a lot less hassel

also you may have to pay import tax or duty on anything from abroad - have a search and see if you are liable .
I only know about UK - and we dont have import duty but we do ave a 17.5% VAT tax that will be applied

Hi there! I've got a question about my computer build. Mostly it's just compatibility issues or choosing one over the other.

CPU: i5 2500k (I plan on overclocking - do you think I'd make it to 4.5 GHz?) - I got some thermal paste and the 140mm Noctua NH-D14
GPU: Sapphire HD 7970/HD 6990 (it's still not on the market) OR GTX 580/590. I'm confused because the Nvidia cards allow PhysX, and I don't know if ATi cards support it. Will patching solve the problem?
RAM: CORSAIR 2x4GB @ 1600 MHz (I plan on getting another kit once the time comes)
Motherboard: 3rd Generation ASUS P8Z68-V
Case: CoolerMaster HAF 912+ (comes with pre-installed 200mm LED and regular 120mm, as well as optional 200mm/120-140mm slots)
HDDs/SSDs: Got myself a Western Digital 64 MB 7200rpm @ 500 GB, and a 90 GB 2.5" (with the proper bracket for 3.5") SSD to install the system on
PSU: Corsair HX1050 (I'm wondering - is this an overkill, or not? I've ran a calc and it recommended a 706 Watt PSU, but I dunno if it's accurate - I could go with the 850GS instead, which is 50% price). Also, is it possible to install an additional PSU?
Monitor: A regular 1920x1080 @ 21.5" - I decided not to go any bigger than that not to have FPS drops
OS: Windows 7 Pro

Important! I plan on using this system later on. That's why I want another PSU. I also plan on buying the same card later on to run in SLi or CrossFireX, getting a new 8GB kit and overclocking my 2500k... Read more

A:Computer build help!

I have a couple of concerns about the case which may or may not be a problem; you need to check. In the case pictures I looked at there is a metal bracket on the bottom of the case, located behind where the power supply would be. You need to verify the HX1050 power supply will fit, since it is 180 mm long. Also verify the bracket will not interfere with cables plugged into the modular connectors of the power supply. (Better yet if the bracket is removable).

If you choose a graphics card that is longer than 10.6 inches, you will need to remove the 3-1/2 drive bays behind it. Not a problem if you can use the other drive bays, or the card is shorter.

Finally, yes you can use two power supplies, but I don't recommend it. The motherboard, CPU fan, and graphics card or cards should be powered from the same supply. Damage can occur if one supply isn't working, or if they don't power on & off together. You can use a second supply for drives, case fans and lighting; though these don't use much power so you might as well just use one supply.

I would go with a Asus motherboard avoid Abit like the plague make sure you have Sata

Get a power supply not one that comes with the case

A good power supply is one of the most things overlooked on a computer

Hard Drive I go with the Maxtor Dimond max 10 sata it the top one in the 7200 rpm range

Heyy guys, just looking for a little advice on building my own computer, im into FPS games like call of duty, BF3, I also like Skyrim and RPG games, And Gmod, im wanting a computer that can run at high settings, dosnt need to be ultra, just high, I will be playing at 1920x1080, I have keyboard, mouse and a monitor, all I need is the insides to be decent enough to run high-ish games, and the bigger titles,

My budget is 350-400 ish if its possible let me know but the cheaper the better .

A:Help me build my computer

Well, $400 doesnt get you much. If you can get the budget to $500 you can easily be talking a nice PC for the price.

My brother is looking to get a new computer, and I have seen a lot on here about the "build your own". How difficult is it, do you have to wait around for a comptuter fair, & if not where is a good place to get the parts? My brother is pretty computer savy, and they would be sure to be happy to save money! Is there any soldering involved or just plugging in type stuff???

Gday, I am looking at building a new gaming computer (having it built for me) unfortunatly I havent kept up will all the latest tech specs, so I have no idea what are the best parts to add.
I have had a bit of a search on the net and have come up with the following parts.
•Intel Core i5 760 quad-core processor

•ASUS P7P55 LX motherboard

•Radeon 6870 video card

•4GB PC10600 DDR3 memory

•Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB hard disk drive
Is there anything here that is a bad idea?
I want a fast gaming computer that will keep up with the newest games and be relativly cheap.
Are there any parts that could be substituted for something better at a similar cost or cheaper?

The time has come to retire the current rig and I am looking to build a formidable gaming machine. I am considering the following components:

Athalon FX-53
Asus SK8V MoBo
ATI x800 XT
1 GB Corsair Mem
2 74 GB WD Raptors in Raid 0

The rest of the components will be whatever is on sale at the time.

Now, for my questions:

1) Having never built a high end machine before, how much cooling will I need? Is the CPU heatsink that is bundled with the FX-53 good enough or should I use a third party's setup? Do I need to buy a slot cooler or another fan for the case?

2) How big of a power supply will I need?

3) How big of a headache will it be to set up RAID 0? Anyone had any experience with the RAID controller on the SK8V?

And lastly, of the components I listed, is there anything you would do differently?

Thanks for your help. I bought my last machine from a vendor so it's been about 4 years since I built my own. Lots of new stuff out there to catch up on.
