I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hey guys.

just finished formating my computer (using the built in windows 8 feature). once it was up and running i uninstalled all the built in stuff lenovo brings with the computer using revo uninstaller. in the procces i also removed all registry and files those programs left.. but now theres a probelm:

this pops up every once in a while. usually when i install something. note that this is just one messege out of two! the other one looks the same but reffers to a different file - Lenovo-25207.vbs which sits in the same folder.

any ideas?

Right click the .vbs file - open with notepad - check the second line for a file/folder reference - and then see whether that file/folder exists....

During usage this morning I had a Windows Script Host screen Pop up. This Host Notice says the following: Can not find script file "C:/Documents and Settings/Owner/Local Settings/Temp/.tt.tmp.vbs". At the same time I received a Spyware warning pop up and my desk top became a vivid microsoft blue. Of course shortly thereafter "file eating roaches" began to crawl all over my screen. I ran my norton anti-virus software and performed the manual fix called for. Upon rebooting the same cycle of pop ups occured. I noticed that the Deckard's system scanner identified ASPIMGR as a recently created service. *The Kaspersky program just completed a section and identified 5 Trojan infections. Another section had 1 virus and 38 infected objects. This is getting worse and worse it seems. Between the two Deckard's system logs and the Kaspersky logs I ran $$$ across the page width of the post to make it easier to find. Hello all, and thanks in advance for the help.

Here's the back story:

I use COMODO free version for my firewall and haven't had any problems. A few weeks ago I got a notification letting me know updates were available (program, not database). I allowed the system to update and walked off. I came back a while later (2 hrs+) and found it hung on the installation (at around 83% IIRC). I ended up having to force the machine off and do a cold boot.

When it came up I was getting all sorts of errors and couldn't get windows to work right. I started in safe mode and, using RevoUninstaller, was able to get COMODO off my machine and everything worked fine. I re-downloaded COMODO, installed it and didn't have any problems. I used Revo again to remove the browser and GeekBuddy that they force on your machine.

Starting a few days ago I got a new notification that program updates were available. I allowed the updates and it went through, notifying me a restart was needed. I restarted. Once it booted back up, it notified me that updates were available. I updated, restarted, and updates were available.

The cycle continued so I just started ignoring them. Today I decided to try and tackle the problem.

After restarting, the updates didn't seem to stick. So I used Revo once again to remove it. I re-downloaded COMODO and installed. I again removed the browser and GeekBuddy with Revo.

COMODO let me know there were updates, I updated, I restarted, and it seems to have taken ... Read more

Previously I used to get a message stating that there is no *.vbs file to run. So I disabled the Script Host. Now I am getting

Hi xchan,

There might be some infection on your system that caused this issue. Assuming malware bytes was able to remove any malware that was present on the system. It would be better if you run a SFC on the system:

SFC/SCANNOW

If the issue still persists then please perform a system restore following the steps below:

System Restore

Keep us posted with the results so we can advise you further.

Read more

Just recently I started getting an error when I boot up and I have no idea how to get rid of it. I have tried finding it in the task manager processes and stopping its startup, but I couldn't not find it there, and I also can't find it in the location specified by the error.

In the picture below is the error that pops up when I start up my computer (on right)

Anyone have a quick fix or know the steps necessary to remove this error?

A:Windows Script Host Error

To remove that error window (btw, the file is there. It has "hidden" and probably "system" attributes) download this Microsoft's Sysinternals utility.

Start it as Admin, go to its Logon tab, find that file and uncheck it.

And please check your system with antivirus to make sure there is no malware.
This looks like a hacktool of some sort.

If you do not have antivirus you can use free soft like
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
or
Kaspersky Free Virus Scanner

When I try to open my Sandisk USB 1 GB memory stick, I get this message ‘Can not(SIC) find script file “J://autorun.vbs”.’
This only happens when I double click on the USB drive from the “My Computer window”. If I just put in the drive for the first time, it opens OK.
I got an alert from McAfee virus scan yesterday, about a Trojan horse detected and removed. So sorry, can’t remember the name, can’t find any log file. I scanned the computer and USB memory stick, both say clean now. But when I try to ‘double click’ open the memory drive, I still get the error “Can not find script file “J://autorun.vbs”.’ and the drive won’t open.
Do I have a virus?
Should I just format the stick drive? I guess I will only loose some software that came with the drive?
Thanks,
Drew

hi macbookisnext,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Just to verify, did you deleted / uninstalled a lenovo application recently?

Chances are, that vbs file is part of a lenovo application that's running on startup and it's possible that it wasn't completely deleted when the main program that it was attached to got removed / uninstalled.

To prevent the error message from popping up everytime the computer starts, try to look for that .vbs file and delete it under these startup locations::

Startup items - Windows 7
Startup items - Windows 8 / 8.1

If above steps doesn't work, you will need to:
1. Download and install Autoruns
2. On the Everything tab, look for the .vbs file (this is usually highlighted in yellow) and uncheck it from the list.

Hello,

I had a power outage last night at my apartment. This morning I turned my computer back on (was in sleep mode when power went out) and it did not turn on completely, the monitor stayed off and the computer did not really turn on. I turned it off manually, then turned it back on again. It asked me to run a CHKDSK function (first time I've ever had to on this computer, owned it for 3 years now). I ran the CHKDSK, got onto my desktop and launched a computer game of mine that utilizes a .vbs file. When that .vbs file tried to initiate, I got a Windows Script Host Error. The details of that error are as follows:

Windows Script Host
Script: C:\Program Files (x86)\Sega\Medieval II Total War\mods\Third_Age_SP\G5BAISwitcher.vbs
Line: 13
Char: 5
Error: Invalid syntax
Code: 800401E4
Source: (null)

When this error pops up I also get a little popup window in the bottom right of my screen that says something to the effect of "There was an error found with System32/WBEM" The game runs ok minus the files affected by the .vbs script, and I haven't noticed anything else strange with my computer, yet. I should note that I've been able to run this .vbs file fine over the past 9-10 days and that not until the power outage/chkdsk issues did I this start happening. Even after a full reinstall of the game and multiple restarts of my computer, this issue still persists. Furthermore, every time I restart my computer CHKDSK still prompts me ... Read more

A:Windows Script Host Error and CHKDSK Issue

If you haven't run chkdsk /r but once in 3 years...I suggest running it a couple of times.Note that the command is chkdsk /r, not plain old chkdsk.Once Windows has fully loaded, bring up Command Prompt and enter chkdsk /r . Type Y when asked if you want this to happen on the next boot. Reboot.The command will execute, then automatically boot into Windows.Louis

Hello,
let me get straight to the point
I tried to fix my usb flash drive as it has something called "SHORTCUT VIRUS". So I googled it and found an application to fix it called USB fixer. I installed it and through that , I vaccinated my all drives but by mistake I selected the option "deactivate windows script host" or host script ?whatever, then I found this didnt work. So i'd leave it. I found a blog about using readyboost to make your pendrive as a RAM. Although I was aware of it I thought i just speeds up your system. I didnt restarted my laptop till now when I tried running readyboost it gave me an error "windows host script access is disabled on this machine.contact you administrator blah blah."I am the administrator!. So I thought devaccinating would do the trick. But its not devaccinating. I tried changing the registry in hkey_current_user and hkey_idont remember. It is enabled as the value in settings is 1 on both the sides, so i restared my laptop and found the error poping up at startup.i dont want to do a system reset

Hoping for quick response,
Thanks in advance

Its not unusual to receive such an error after using specialized fix tools.A "Cannot find...", "Could not run...", "Error loading... or "specific module could not be found" message is usually related to malware that was set to run at startup but has been deleted. Windows is trying to load this file but cannot locate it since the file was mostly likely removed during an anti-virus or anti-malware scan. However, an associated orphaned registry entry remains and is telling Windows to load the file when you boot up. Since the file no longer exists, Windows will display an error message. You need to remove this registry entry so Windows stops searching for the file when it loads. To resolve this, download Autoruns, search for the related entry and then delete it.Create a new folder on your hard drive called AutoRuns (C:\AutoRuns) and extract (unzip) the file there. (click here if you're not sure how to do this.)Open the folder and double-click on autoruns.exe to launch it.Please be patient as it scans and populates the entries.When done scanning, it will say Ready at the bottom.Scroll through the list and look for a startup entry related to the file(s) in the error message.Right-click on the entry and choose delete.Reboot your computer and see if the startup error returns.

hi!

how do i remove "cannot find script file C:/WINDOWS/jargon.vbs" which appears each time I boot.

A:cannot find script file C:/WINDOWS/jargon.vbs

That .vbs file is malware and related to a flash drive infection.A flash drive (usb, pen, thumb, jump) infection usually involve malware that modifies/loads an autorun.inf (text-based configuration) file into the root folder of all drives (internal, external, removable) along with a malicious executable. When removable media such as a CD/DVD is inserted (mounted), autorun looks for autorun.inf and automatically executes the malicious file to run silently on your computer. For flash drives and other USB storage, autorun.ini uses the Windows Explorer's right-click context menu so that the standard "Open" or "Explore" command starts the file. Malware modifies the context menu (adds a new default command) and redirects to executing the malicious file if the "Open" command is used or double-clicking on the drive icon. When a flash drive becomes infected, the Trojan will infect a system when the removable media is inserted if autorun has not been disabled. Keep in mind that autorun.inf can also be a legitimate file which other legitimate programs depend on so the presence of that file may not always be an indication of infection. To learn more about this risk, please read:When is AUTORUN.INF really an AUTORUN.INF?Nick Brown's blog: Memory stick wormsUSB-Based Malware AttacksDanger USB! I am getting a window dispay "IE script error". This has been occuring when I was in affected by the "windows Restore" malware. I am not sure which came first, but felt the "windows Restore" malware was most important to fix.

I found your guide to fixing this malware. I ran the rKill.exe,(which I ran). My desktop disapeared, but I could browse to malwarebytes_setup with Task Manager. Running MBMA updated and scanned. 8 problems were found.

I am now stumped on how to fix "IE script error", which I feel psrt of the entire attack on my computer. Task Manager does not show a process for the window, which makes me suspect my xp os has been sandboxed.

Please let me know what I should do.

Dear All,

I would like to install the program Treefinder (http://www.treefinder.de/) to a notebook with Windows Vista Home Premium. The installation script is in a file "install.js":

-------
var WSHShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell");

var path = WScript.ScriptFullName;
var tfdir = path.substr(0,path.lastIndexOf("\\"));

var env = WSHShell.Environment("SYSTEM");
env.Item( "TFDIR" ) = tfdir;

var shortcut = WSHShell.CreateShortcut(tfdir + "\\-TREEFINDER-.lnk");
shortcut.TargetPath = tfdir + "\\treefinder.js";
shortcut.WorkingDirectory = "";
shortcut.WindowStyle = 4;
shortcut.IconLocation = tfdir + "\\icon32.ico";
shortcut.Save();
-------

The machine has:
java version "1.6.0_03"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_03-b05)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.6.0_03-b05, mixed mode, sharing).

If I double click "install.js", I get the error message:

Windows Script Host

Script: C:\Program Files\Treefinder v.03.2008\install.js

Char: 1

Perhaps this "permission" error is easy to correct, but I do not know how to go about it. I thought it might have been connected with the Windows Security Center Firewall, but if I disabled the fir... Read more

Thank you

A:Host script error

1) Try using Autoruns to find out what may be causing cscript.exe to run some scripts.

2) Check whether the behaviour persists in Safe Mode and Clean Boot.

3) You can also try running an sfc scan to repair possibly corrupted system files.

After reading for a while I got to the conclusion that the problem is related to Kaspersky

I already tried to re-register
cd %windir%\system32
regsvr32 vbscript.dll
but it didn't work

This is what CP tells me.
C:\Users\Chris>reg query HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{B54F3741-5B07-11cf-A4B0-00AA00

4A55E8}\InprocServer32

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{B54F3741-5B07-11cf-A4B0-00AA004A55E8}\InprocServer32
(Default) REG_SZ C:\Program Files (x86)\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Intern
et Security 2013\x64\scrchpg.dll
ThreadingModel REG_SZ Both
OriginalDll REG_SZ C:\Windows\System32\vbscript.dll

Can anyone help me. I don't know a lot so the simpler your explanation is the better.

Thanks
And sorry if any errors ... English isn't my primary language

Is Kaspersky working or not working? If you are getting a VB Script error, either something was removed in error, or you have the OS locked down too tightly with the A/V software.
