I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

How can we know if a patch from Microsoft is impacting other MS software than what the KB description says?

We have another non-MS application that is crashing after one of the patches in below example is installed, and the vendor is just saying that they will not do anything from their side to fix it (accordingly to them it's
broken by the MS Patch), instead all customers should refrain from applying the patch...

An example: KB3114366 and KB3114510, both for MS Project 2013, are according to the descriptions only impacting on MS Project 2013.
However, when these are installed and I search for the patch in 'Programs and Features', the same patch is listed both under Microsoft Lync 2013 and MS Project Standard 2013.

According to our IT-organisation this is evidence that the patch is touching or might touch also on Lync/Skype for Business (and therefore we are forced to apply the patch, even if it's breaking another application). Is this correct?

[solved] SP3 install impacts Fast User Switching

After some searching, there were comments on Remote Desktop

$ netstat -a -o | egrep 3389
TCP ltbeard:3389 LISTENING 1324

3389 is the RDP port number and
1324 is the PID of the process using it

$ tasklist /svc | egrep 1324
svchost.exe 1324 DcomLaunch, TermService(that egrep is a linux or cygwin tool; windows users will just have to eyeball or redirect to a file and view the results with notepad)

The above shows RDP (actually TermService) is active so it's not a service issue.

Yet TermService failed??? hmm; I run a tight firewall config (Sunbird PF4 ~ like Comodo) and I began to wonder ... what if the default deny rule was stopping the connection?

I added a rule like

I have a Dell XPS 8700 with a 256GB SSD and its time to migrate to a larger SSD. I intend to keep the small SSD after the migration is finished. I have a couple of question. The new SSD is a Samsung 850 Evo so I understand that the Samsung Magician software that's included should take care of the migration without problems. If anyone has experience using the Magician I like to hear from you if there are any gotcha's I need to look out for.

I'm also concerned about some of the directories that I've redirected to a larger HDD (My Documents, Downloads, My Music, My Pictures, My Videos) will still function properly as long as I don't change the drive letter on the destination HDD, correct?

I'm also assuming that I should change the drive letter on the old SSD to allow me to use "C" for the new SSD, correct?

I'm also assuming that the Samsung Magician is smart enough that it won't duplicate the "signature of the old SSD to the new one, correct?

Thanks for your comments and suggestions.

I just heard on the news that the US and Canada is changing the start and end of Daylight Savings Time next year.

I believe it will begin one month earlier and end one month later.

Windows computers, like mine, auto adjust when there is a time change. Will the computer fix itself on the new dates?

Is this something built into Windows XP that can not be changed, or does the computer change its time based on Microsoft.com's Time Service?

Also, I have a clock that sets itself to the proper time as soon as you plug it in. So if I unplug it and plug it back on, it is the right time again.

With this clock, are the dates stored permanently on it or does it somehow receive the time through the power source?

Will this clock be screwed up next year and in the future when the time changes occur on different times of the year?

A:negative effect

Is this perchance a Laptop?

"The negative effect" I assume you mean the colors are backwards, white is black, green is purple, etc, etc

If this is the case there should be a strange key on your keyboard that looks like a white A and a black A. Usually you hit the function key then hit the other reverse key to change the colors around.

Otherwise... you will need to find your video card settings and mess around with the gamma section majorly.

I'm downloading a decently large file (2.50 GB) and it's in the Negative percent, the download bar (little blue bars that go across) are all the way across, I have 160 MB of 2.50 GB downloaded, and it says 4 hours and 10 mins left, and it also says -11% as the percent complete, what does this mean??

Thanks ^.^

A:Negative % in download??

What it means is fairly straight forward. Of the huge download, only 11% has been downloaded and 11% of 2.5GB is about 160mb. It is estimated to take 4 hours to download such a large file. If you are on dial-up, it might take that long! On DSL or cable, it should not take that long. Does that answer your question?

I know by formatting the cell you can select negative numbers to appear in red. I was wondering if there was a way to do that with zeros?

A:Excel and negative numbers

Hi there,

Yes, there is, but you'll need to do a custom format as there are no default formats for showing anything equal to zero in red. Now in order to do this, you'll need to understand a little of custom formatting. There are four items you can specify, and they are in specific order: Greater than zero, less than zero, equal to zero, and textual values. These items, are separated by a semi-colon ( ; ). So something like this...
This should explain them a little more...

I just bought Otek FS-502 hoping to scan heaps of old 35mm negative, but I am rather disappointed in the quality of the images I am getting, they are wishy/washy (not sharp or clear). After I have transferred it onto my PC the dimensions are 2544 x 1696 but the size of the file is 500-600KB whereas my normal digital photos are 2-3MB, which I assume is the problem. Am I expecting too much of this Scanner or have I not set up the scanning process correctly? Or is it dependent on the SD card, I have tried a couple with same result.
Also another problem has emerged when I emailed a couple of photos (saved from my digital camera) as attachments to a friend; when I open up my sent message, at the top (above the addressee headings) there is a message "OA removed access to the following unsafe attachments in your mail IMG_795.JPG". so all I have is the hugely enlarged image in the email itself.
Hopefully you can understand my 2 problems/issues an have some easy resolution.

Many Thanks

Your unsharp scans are caused probably by you not setting a high enough scan resolution in your Otek's scanning software.

I have a scanner for scanning film negatives which worked really well with Vista 32 bit but I have been unable to get it working with Windows 7 64 bit.

It is made by a company called Fujitac (who don't seem to have a website anymore) but it uses OVT Scanner drivers. Initially Win 7 didn't recognise it but after loading the drivers from the original CD it seems to be recogised. The driver version is Omnivision 5.2.5500.35 from 29 Jul 07 and I have no idea where to get a later version.

The scanner came with Photo Impression 6 software. When I go "Acquire from Scanner" it brings up the capture window but it remains blank and never shows an image of the negative that I wish to scan.

Any ideas would be gratefully received - I've wasted too much time on this already

I've been going through my photos and film negatives.

Is there a way to get a picture printed without giving up the negative?
It seems photo places will send out your negatives for processing, but the developer won't return them like they used to.

I was wondering also why they don't return them, and what happens to your negatives (property).

Also, is there a way to view the negative without buying a negative strip reader (light machine).

Thank you

A:Film Negative Questions

I would never, ever hand a negative to any processor that did not ensure its return. I've never dealt with any photo printer that didn't return negatives.

There are ways to digitally process negatives into photos, and many high-tech commercial photo processing shops, even local ones, have these and can produce a print while you wait. These may not be quite up to the standard of regular print processing, but it's generally way more than good enough for old snapshots.

Hello all,
Since I got my new GPU, I have been having a problem with my second display. When I want to turn it on(through Catalyst) as an extention to my main dispaly, it does turn on, but after about 5-10 minutes the colors turn negative and I have to disable and re-enable it in order for it to get back normal again. My GPU is a Sapphire Radeon HD7850 OC, and the second monitor is connected through HDMI. Last time I checked my drivers where up to date. Anyone knows why this happens and how to fix it ?

Thank you in advance!

A:Second Monitor turning negative(HDMI)

If it has two HDMI ports, try the other one.

Try another HDMI cable.

If still an issue after that, if that monitor has a different connection other than HDMI, I would try using it to verify it's not a an overall monitor issue and just HDMI failure, port on the monitor or the video card, either way, not reasonably fixed.

HDMI has me annoyed on my own rig, rather DVI, but only one on my 7950.

Could try underclocking or normal clocking in Catalyst also, just in case that OC has caused the problem.
