Thinkpad 11e yoga chromebook tablet

Q: Thinkpad 11e yoga chromebook tablet

I have had the 3rd gen 11e thinkpad yoga chromebook for a year now. Recently the tablet function has stopped working. I haven't changed or locked anything on it. I've looked at the orientation and it is still set to standard. When I flip the screen past the hinges it used to flip like a tablet, now it won't. Any ideas or tips would be much appreciated! Thank you!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Dear Lenovo-Community,my Thinkpad S1 Yoga change into tablet modus not only when I fold back the monitor but also when I have closed the lid normaly and than reopened it or sometimes by slightly moving the monitor or a minor percussion of the table. That is very annoying, because than I have no access to keyboard or touchpad while beeing in the laptop-shape. I can revive keyboard/touchpad by folding back the monitor and than back to the normal laptop shape, but this works only one time! After that I have to send the thinkpad in the energy saving mode and wake it up, to get keyboard/touchpad back.I think it is a problem with the sensor, but does there a software setting exist so keyboard/touchpad keep unlocked in tablet-modus? Or a way to switch off the tablet-modus completely? I can live without the tablet-modus and the thinkpad is probably too old to be worth a great repair. My system is fully updated. Any idea out there?

So I recently purchased a ThinkPad x1 yoga (2nd gen), and this is only the second time I'm using it. Yesterday, I was able to get it to switch to tablet mode and the screen also rotated fine. Now, I can still switch to tablet mode, but the track pad is staying active for some reason, and the screen won't rotate to portrait mode. This is really inconvenient, because I want to take notes on it!! Anyone have a solution?

I just got a brand new Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 14 and the touchscreen was working great, but once I installed my Wacom Cintiq 12wx onto the laptop, the touchscreen completely stopped working. It seems like the laptop is confused on whether to use the wacom or the laptop as a tablet and I really want them to both work simultaneously. Has anyone else been able to get their laptop to work with a tablet? Any help would be greatly appreciated since this is the second thinkpad yoga 14 ive gotten since the first one did the same thing and I first assumed it was a computer issue.

Hi banana74
Welcome to the forums.

Can you please post the full model number of your TP Yoga 14? are you using Windows 10 (64bits)?

I have tried my TP Y 14 with a Wacom Bamboo and I have no problem using both, the touchscreen with the Thinkpad Pen Pro and the Wacom Bamboo with his own pen.
Maybe what we can do first is try to update the Wacom drivers of your Thinkpad Yoga from the Lenovo support site of you model.

Hello everyone, Yesterday I installed Windows 10 on my Thinkpad Yoga (first generation) with clean install. Everything works fine except wifi in tablet mode. Hello,I have an issue with the laptop mistakenly thinking it's been flipped into tablet mode on my Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga (Machine Type Model: 20CDS02C00). This tends to happen at degree about 100-120 degrees, which are still normal viewing angels. The symptoms are that the keyboard and mousepad stop working, and occasionally the screen will also tilt to the left or right (portrait orientation) even though you are sitting completely level. The only way to force it back to standard laptop mode I have found is to put the computer in sleep mode, and turn it on again right after. This trick works about half the time. It does not work to put the screen back to a 90 degree viewing angle. Is it possible to disable the automatic change from laptop to tablet mode to the other? How?  Thanks as always for the amazing forum support!!

Over the last few months my Thinkpad S1 Yoga has developed a habit of randomly entering tablet mode when the lid is about 90-120 degrees open, as if the lid was swung past 180 degrees. Consequently the keyboard and trackpad are disabled when this happens. Closing the lid to force the computer to sleep and then opening the lid again removes the symptom. Moving the lid past 180 degrees sometimes makes the computer go into laptop mode again, or sometimes makes the display rotate 90 degrees while staying in tablet mode. I tried to remove the sensor in Device Manager and let plugnplay rediscover it but the problem remains. So I'm guessing this is a hardware problem? For now my workaround is to keep the sensor disabled (which means no tablet mode unless I Before I tear the computer apart and start replacing parts - it's out of warranty - any thoughts? Thanks.

Hi, welcome to the forums.

Can you please post the full model number of your Thinkpad Yoga 14?
Are you using Windows 10?

I may suggest you first to try to update the Wifi drivers and maybe some other of the system driver of you Yoga.
Here are my general tips:

1) Try first Windows Update and update all the drivers and Patches
2) Try Lenovo System Update to get any new/missing drivers.
3) Try to install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows App Store, Lenovo Companion also has a "update driver search"
4) Sometimes all that software does not recognize some updated / missing driver. Check Lenovo's Support Site and search for your specific model drivers (use the full model number of your Thinkpad).

After that we can try a little bit more. For example I also like to test it on some other Wifi networks just to be sure it is not a compatibility issue with the Wifi Router.

I currently use a Lenovo ThinkPad S1 Yoga, and have recently upgraded the 64-bit OS from Windows 8.1 to 10.Since then I have been experiencing issues where ?Tablet Mode? will activate suddenly and randomly while I am using my ultrabook in laptop mode. This is especially frustrating because it often occurs while I am using the keyboard which will then be disabled, and cannot be re-enabled. I have attempted to turn on/off the various Tablet Mode settings ? ?Make Windows more touch-friendly??, ?When I sign in...?, ?When this device automatically??, ?Hide app icons??, but no pair of settings seemed to work. In the end, I am forced to reboot, which is the only solution that resolves the matter. What steps can I take to resolve this matter once and for all without having to restart the system constantly?

Hi

In my case I have a Thinkpad Yoga 14 and it took me some time to stabilize Windows 10 on it. I went updating the driver over time until it get stable.

I also have some settings similar to you, but mine (for example)  sometimes switches to tablet mode when I close the lid, but when I open it Windows change very fast to laptop mode, so it does not bother me.

I can suggest you to try to update your drivers, here are some of my tips to update the drivers on a Thinkpad when going to Windows 10.

These are some of my tips to update the drivers of your Thinkpad:

1) Try first Windows Update and update all the drivers and Patches
2) Try Lenovo System Update to get any new/missing drivers.
3) Try to install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows App Store, Lenovo Companion also has a "update driver search"
4) Sometimes all that software does not recognize some updated / missing driver. Check Lenovo's Support Site and search for your specific model drivers (use the full model number of your Thinkpad).

If you have more experience installing and uninstalling driver, there are some other things you can do, but those options os AS IS outside Lenovo's suggestion.
1) There is DriverEasy that offers a decent for free scanning of your device and shows you which drivers can be updated from their database.
2) According to your machine devices you have the Intel Driver Update Utility and the AMD Driver Update Utility, sometimes it can help... Read more

Hi

I was not able to find anything interesting on the support site of your model:
http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-...

I checked the change on the ELAN drivers from 12/1/2016, but it does not says anything about the touchpad not recovering from tablet mode.

If you already installed this driver and didn't work, I don't have more ideas about it.

I'm truly at my ends dealing with this issue, and searching without luck for a fix. As stated above, I've got a 2015 era Lenovo Yoga 12 (S2?) 20DK that has been used on and off over the last 18 months. About 6 months ago it started; while flipping the screen from laptop mode to tablet mode, the screen will flicker a few times and after completing the transition to tablet the screen is off. Won't power up, nothing. Now during the act of flipping to tablet mode I can stop at certain points before folding it totally flat into tablet mode, and it will work fine (keyboard/mouse disabled, screen rotation works). There seems to be a sweet spot at about a 45 degree angle in tablet mode that it works fine. Even like that, if I even bump it a little more towards full on flipped back tablet mode, it'll shutdown. I've just been ignoring the problem for the most part but for a new job I started I need it to go into full tablet mode. Everything works fine in traditional Laptop Mode. I've tried updating the Driver, BIOS, and Windows.I've disabled the Sensor Data Service and Sensor Monitoring ServiceTried using a strong magnet on different points around bottom of bezel to "fool" any sensors Nothing is working. My gut always assumed this was hardware related due to a bad sensor of some sort but I cant find anything close to this issue using Google-Fu. I didn't know where to seek help with this problem, so I came here to get some perspective. I'm going to college (in EU) to hopefuly study Information and Communications Technology. I'll still be having my main and powerful PC at home, that I can work on after classes but I've heard that I would need something mobile, that I can carry with me every day. My first thought were these two options (Thinkpad X230 and some ChromeOS laptop) but I don't know what to focus on. Thinkpad is quite all-purpose, while Chromebook is mainly for notes and internet stuff (I might be wrong tho).

This sounds like an odd pair of machines to compare.  An x230 is 6 years old vs. a much newer chromebook.

Pros- 8GB RAM is much needed for ChromeOS power users.- Core i3 and i5 are also much needed for ChromeOS power users.- FHD and higher resolution IPS screens are much needed for ChromeOS power users.- ThinkPad build quality. Cons- Keyboard doesn't have a red TrackPoint mouse??? Lenovo hasn't released a ThinkPad Chromebook with a TrackPoint mouse since the 2013 x131e. That x131e Chromebook isn't for sale anymore, so there aren't any current options for ChromeOS users. Why take it away and not have something suitable for replacing it? I really love ThinkPads and ChromeOS. I want to spend money on a product which is both, but each recent Chromebook Lenovo has been missing some important feautre. Very disappointing. :'(

While working on my Chromebook, it is relatively common that under a medium amount of system strain, the system will completely shutdown (especially doing video google hangouts). Upon rebooting and logging in, the system will often shutdown again. Usually, I have to reboot, turn off wifi, log in, and close as many tabs as possible before it force shuts down again. I repeat this process until I can close enough tabs to break the cycle of it shutting down quickly. The laptop itself does not feel especially hot so I would be surprised if it were a thermal issue. I've tried powerwashing but have run into the same issues. Pretty disappointed since the laptop is just over a year old...
